Eyebrows cantilevered higher than some bridges (with cars leaping over the gap) when Helen Mirren revealed that she would be part of the cast for the latest Fast & Furious outing. But she wasn't kidding, and now Vin Diesel has taken to Instagram with a picture of his Dominic Toretto and Mirren's mysterious character. Neither Diesel nor Mirren has said anything about what she'll be doing in the film, though her hopes (and ours) were crushed slightly when she recently told Entertainment Weekly that she won't get to drive as part of her small role in the movie. “I wanted to be driving, but unfortunately, I’m not,” she said. “Maybe that will come in the future, in Fast & Furious 12... Regardless of whether it ends up being called Fast 8, Furious 8 or, in a moment of utter titling madness, &8, the next Fast & Furious film is now shooting. Back in January, Vin Diesel did his usual social media promotion duty and put up the first poster from the eighth Fast & Furious film online, which listed it as Fast 8 . He's back with the new image, which appears to switch the title to Furious 8, while also making us wonder if they're just unveiling the full title word by word... We suppose it makes sense to follow the naming standard set by the seventh film, but it does rather crush our dream of future movies simply taking bits of the title and using them (And 9, anyone?) Regardless, Furious 8 (or whatever it ends up being known as over here) has F. Gary Gray directing Vin and the returning regulars (including Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Dwayne Johnson) facing off against new villain Charlize Theron in a story that remains a mystery to be discovered a quarter mile at a time. We do know that Kurt Russell's mysterious Mr. Nobody will be back, bringing protege Scott Eastwood along for the ride.

Variety is reporting Scott Eastwood has joined the ensemble of “ Fast 8 ,” the next installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise. Eastwood joins Charlize Theron , who will portray a new antagonist. The latest installment begins production this summer with a planned April 14, 2017, release. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and Michelle Rodriguez will reprise their roles, with F. Gary Gray taking over the directing reins. Neil Moritz and Diesel will produce. Though she had only been in talks up to this point, waiting to see a finished script, Charlize Theron has officially signed on to play the big bad going up against Vin Diesel's Dom Toretto in Fast 8 . Theron will actually be playing in the new Fast & Furious entry, and rumors had pinned her as a potential new member of the nasty Shaw family (previous siblings including Luke Evans ' Owen and Jason Statham's Deckard). But it sounds like she's just going to be a powerful, dangerous woman who has great influence in the criminal underworld. It would be fun to see the new movie shot almost completely from her point of view, a la Mad Max: Fury Road, but that probably won't work in terms of the Fast films' usual focus. Diesel is back of course alongside Statham, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and the rest of the current cast, and some filming has already commenced, though largely limited to second unit stunt work so far. Universal Pictures is reportedly in the process of seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to shoot a portion of FAST 8 in Cuba. THR is reporting Fast and Furious star Michelle Rodriguez will go under the knife for Tomboy , A Revenger's Tale, the gender-swapping action movie to be directed by Walter Hill. Sigourney Weaver is already on board to also star in the project, being produced by Said Ben Said (Map to the Stars) and Michel Merkt of SBS. The script, written by Hill from a story by Denis Hamill, centers on an ace assassin who is double-crossed by gangsters and falls into the hands of rogue surgeon known as "The Doctor," who turns him into a woman. THR is reporting Michelle Rodriguez has joined Donald Sutherland as one of the stars of the upcoming film adaptation of Milton's Secret , based on the children's novel by Eckhart Tolle and Robert Friedman. Rodriguez will play a school teacher lifting the spirits of the film's central character, Milton, a young boy played by William Ainscough , who is bullied by fellow students. Sutherland will play Milton's grandfather, who helps the young boy discover that his obsession with his preteen fears will prevent him from finding true happiness. The ensemble cast includes David Sutcliffe, Mia Kirshner (The L Word), Sheila McCarthy and Hays Wellford . There has always been the desire by Paul to have Rob direct one more, this is what fueled my campaign… I believe that he can and would reset the franchise nicely, returning to what was the core of the film in the beginning… racing. He would also handle the Brian O’connor issue with integrity, given that he and David Ayer were the ones who initially created that beloved character in the first place. Ultimately we all want the best film to honor what we have created and what you the audience has adopted as your favorite franchise.
