Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes Comic-Con Recap

Director Matt Reeves has big shoes to fill, stepping into the second instalment of a reborn franchise with Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes . He came to Comic-Con to talk through his plans for next year's film and brought his cast for the ride. "I was obsessed with Planet Of The Apes as a child; I wanted to be an ape," says Reeves. "When I saw Rise, I felt that watching it made me an ape, and that happened because of what Rupert and Andy Serkis and Weta did, which was to connect with what being an ape was, and I wanted to honour that and carry it forward. We wanted to do a Caesar-centric story that started in the world of the apes. "When that movie ended there was a viral apocalypse that was about to begin, and we all know that that story goes on a trajectory towards the original Planet Of The Apes. So how could we tell that story and bring in humans worthy of it? That's what we've tried to do." Reeves brought just-finished footage, but of c

Gary Oldman Joins Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

Things are really ramping up for Matt Reeves' upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes . In addition to the returning Andy Serkis , recent reports name Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee as two of the sequel's principal cast. Now, ComingSoon.net  has learned exclusively that Gary Oldman will be boarding the project as the leader of a human colony! Set 15 years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn finds most of humanity wiped out and the intelligent apes ruling over the world. Part of the film's focus is said to be on a small group of San Francisco-based scientists that are forming a resistance against the apes and part follows Serkis' Caesar as he, like his namesake, tries to maintain order and power within his new civilization. A name very well known to cinephiles, Oldman recently starred in John Hillcoat's Lawless and reprised his role as Commissioner Gordon in last summer's The Dark Knight Rises. He can be seen later this year in

Matt Reeves Enters The Twilight Zone

Let Me In and Cloverfield director Matt Reeves has been chosen by Warner Bros to direct The Twilight Zone , the Jason Rothenberg-scripted thriller based on the classic Rod Serling TV series. Negotiations will get underway early next week, but this is an assignment that was coveted by a number of top directors. The Twilight Zone is being produced by Appian Way partners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran, and Michael Ireland. Warner Bros’ Matt Cherniss is the exec. Though the last Twilight Zone film was an anthology with different directors, this one is a big science fiction action movie with a single freestanding story that is linked to the original series mainly in that it shares that familiarly eerie feel. The hope is to sign to sign Reeves quickly, continue to work on the script and get the picture into production by next summer. Reeves is aligned with several major projects that will keep him busy for some time. He recently signed on to develop to direct This

Matt Reeves To Direct This Dark Endeavor. Frankenstein Has A Twin

Let Me In director Matt Reeves has been signed to direct This Dark Endeavor , with Mean Creek writer/helmer Jacob Aaron Estes writing the script for Summit Entertainment. Summit just took a step forward in this contest. The film is based on the Kenneth Oppel novel This Dark Endeavor: The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein . It will be published this summer by Simon & Schuster, the first of a series. In the Oppel novel, Frankenstein's twin Konrad is gravely ill. His brother seeks out a mysterious old alchemist to help him produce the Elixir of Life , a serum that will bestow the gift of perpetual health. You can't order this drink at a pub, and Frankenstein sets out on a dangerous adventure to find the elusive contents. He's accompanied by his best friend Elizabeth, who is sweet on Konrad. Things get complicated among the three of them. Reeves, who also directed Cloverfield, adds This Dark Endeavor to two other projects he's working on. He signed recently

Matt Reeves To Direct Another Vampire Film "The Passage"

Matt Reeves is heading back to the world of vampires. The thoughtful and intellectual director behind Let Me In , the remake of Swedish bloodsucker thriller Let the Right One In, has come aboard to develop and direct The Passage , Fox 2000’s adaptation of the novel by Justin Cronin . Ridley Scott is producing. Fox 2000 picked up the rights for the adaptation as well as two possible sequels in a reported seven-figure deal in 2007. The novel was published in 2009. The novel is set a hundred years in the future, where a government experiment to lengthen the human life span goes awry, unleashing a virus that physically and psychologically transforms people into vampires. John Logan wrote the script when Scott was considering the project as a directing vehicle. Reeves, who wrote Let Me In and co-created Felicity with JJ Abrams, will oversee the rewrite when a new writer is brought in. This is the second major project Reeves is involved with. Last week he signed on to write and

Matt Reeves To Direct Film Based On 8 O’Clock in the Morning

Matt Reeves has signed on at Universal Pictures to write and direct a feature based on the famed Ray Nelson short story 8 O’Clock in the Morning . Strike Entertainment partners Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing. The story is about a man who awakens one morning with the crystal-clear realization that we are surrounded daily by the presence of aliens that are controlling society. It was owned by the studio because it was used as the basis for the 1988 John Carpenter film They Live . In that film, aliens were discovered through the use of special glasses. None of that is being used here, and the film is not considered a remake. Reeves last directed the remake Let Me In and before that Cloverfield . He said he saw what could be his next directing assignment as soon as he read the short story by Nelson, a sci-fi author/cartoonist who was a pal of Philip K. Dick and who as a young man invented that nerd staple the propeller beanie. “I saw an opportunity to do a movie that w

Zack Snyder To Direct Superman Movie

Zack Snyder To Direct Superman Movie Updated: Zack Snyder just tweeted this on his twitter account. Can u Guess what picture? @ZackSnyder: I finally get to put my 32 cents in... Zack Snyder has been chosen to direct the new Superman movie, which Christopher Nolan is producing for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Negotiations began earlier today. Snyder had been on the list of helmers ensconced in meetings with Nolan and Warners execs, who in recent weeks have talked to Darren Aronofsky, Ben Affleck, Matt Reeves and Tony Scott . The job was so coveted that even Robert Zemeckis , retired to the world of performance capture, considered returning to live-action filmmaking in order to nab the gig. A new Superman movie is one of the studio's top priorities, not only since it serves as linchpin for its line of DC superhero-based films, but especially since Warners needs to be in production on a new Superman movie by 2011 or risk losing certain copyrights to the heirs

"Let Me In" Movie Review By: SandwichJohn

"Let Me In" Movie Review By: SandwichJohn First off I have to thank Jen and Overture Films for inviting me to the press screening last Thursday. It was one hell of a drive from Sacramento to LA. but well worth the drive and time. Let Me In is a film that can stand on it own, a remake what? If I hadn't attend the panel for it during Comic-Con I would have never known this film was a remake until I had done some research on the movie. The film is based on the John Ajvide Lindqvist novel “Let the Right One In ” and the Swedish film adaptation of the same name. Let Me In tells a terrifying tale about an alienated 12-year old boy named Owen ( Smit-McPhee ) who is viciously bullied by his classmates and neglected by his divorcing parents. Achingly lonely, Owen spends his days plotting revenge on his middle school tormentors and his evenings spying on the other inhabitants of his apartment complex. His only friend is his new neighbor Abby ( Moretz ), an eerily self-posses
