The gorgeous-looking The Secret Life of Pets feels strangely familiar, but is entirely adorable. Review by Matt Cummings As a pet owner and failed foster parent to three kittens (my wife and I actually kept all three), it goes without saying that my curiosity in The Secret Life of Pets went far above the cinematography, the animation, or really anything else. I just wanted to see what pets do - and think about - while their overlord oppressor goes to work. And while strangely familiar to the original Toy Story , this one more than makes up for it in cuteness and spectacular animation. The home release sports excellent video, audio, and a near-perfect set of extras, minus no director commentary. Open Road Films has acquired all North American rights to the romantic comedy HOME AGAIN , which will star Reese Witherspoon . The film was written by Hallie Meyers-Shyer and will be directed by Meyers-Shyer in her directorial debut. Nancy Meyers is producing alongside Black Bicycle Entertainment’s Erika Olde, who also financed the film. The deal was announced today by Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films. The surprisingly good No Escape more than holds its own against the driftwood of August films. Review by Matt Cummings August films are a lot like the game of kickball we all played as kids. The best (June and July films) get picked first, while the poor fat ones (August) get reluctantly chosen and for good reason. Simply put, August has seen more than its fair share of bombs and utter disappointments (see Vacation , Fantastic Four ); luckily, the family survival thriller No Escape is not one of them. It's easily the most refreshing, surprising, and intense films of the summer, even though its miscast lead is totally out of his league. When Engineer Jack Dwyer (Owen Wilson) is forced to take a job with an American corporation in an unnamed South Asian country, he relocates his young children Beeze (Calire Geare) and Lucy (Sterling Jerins), along with his wife Annie (Lake Bell).
