Star and series producer Vin Diesel has marked the occasion with the first photo of the new cast posted to his Instagram feed. It’s not a still from the movie, or even an professionally photographed snap from the publicity department, but it gives us a good idea of what the billion-dollar franchise now looks like in its post-Paul Walker era. Back in January, Vin Diesel did his usual social media promotion duty and put up the first poster from the eighth Fast & Furious film online, which listed it as Fast 8 . He's back with the new image, which appears to switch the title to Furious 8, while also making us wonder if they're just unveiling the full title word by word... We suppose it makes sense to follow the naming standard set by the seventh film, but it does rather crush our dream of future movies simply taking bits of the title and using them (And 9, anyone?) Regardless, Furious 8 (or whatever it ends up being known as over here) has F. Gary Gray directing Vin and the returning regulars (including Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Dwayne Johnson) facing off against new villain Charlize Theron in a story that remains a mystery to be discovered a quarter mile at a time. Variety is reporting Scott Eastwood has joined the ensemble of “ Fast 8 ,” the next installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise. Eastwood joins Charlize Theron , who will portray a new antagonist. The latest installment begins production this summer with a planned April 14, 2017, release. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and Michelle Rodriguez will reprise their roles, with F. Gary Gray taking over the directing reins. Neil Moritz and Diesel will produce. Universal Pictures is reportedly in the process of seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to shoot a portion of FAST 8 in Cuba. Review by Matt Cummings Depending on your circles, Director Quentin Tarantino is either a brilliant and influential filmmaker or an over-the-top potty mouth who violates every social convention with his exceedingly violent fare. For me, I'm somewhere in the middle, ready to quote Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction but aware that he sometimes goes too far at the expense of his work. If you find yourself standing in the latter corner, you're going to despise The Hateful Eight for its excessive runtime and unnecessary violence.
