Marco Ramirez will write the script based on the popular Japanese manga. “ Akira ” is alive and well at Warner Bros., which has hired “ Daredevil ” writer Marco Ramirez to adapt the popular Japanese manga, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap . Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way banner are producing with Andrew Lazar (“American Sniper”) and his company Mad Chance. Warner Bros. executives Drew Crevello and Nik Mavinkurve will oversee the reconfigured project for the studio. Jaume Collet-Serra was set to direct “ Akira ” back in 2012 but Warner Bros. pulled the plug on the project due to issues surrounding the budget, script and casting. At the time, the studio had been in discussions with Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe and Helena Bonham Carter . THR is reporting that Vin Diesel and Chris Tucker are in negotiations to join the growing cast of Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk , the adaptation of the Ben Fountain novel being directed by Ang Lee . Newcomer Joe Alwyn is starring as the title character with Steve Martin, Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund in various stages of negotiations to join the roll call. Simon Beaufoy wrote the screenplay telling the story of a 19-year-old private (Alwyn) who survives a battle in Iraq that is captured by news cameras. He and his company of soldiers are brought back to the U.S. for a promotional tour culminating in a halftime show at a Thanksgiving Day football game. Most of the movie takes place during the day of the game, with flashbacks to the wartime events. There’s a round of good news/bad news set to hit Snow White And The Huntsman sequel The Huntsman . The good news first, then: Emily Blunt is in negotiations to play the antagonist to Chris Hemsworth ’s hero in the new adventure. Hemsworth will be back as Eric, the heroic sort who aided Kristen Stewart in her battle against the evil Ravenna ( Charlize Theron ). For the follow-up, he’ll be off on a quest to retrieve the stolen magic mirror, which will bring him up against both Theron’s character and her snow queen sister (Blunt, assuming she signs), who are eager for revenge. And now for the bad news: Frank Darabont, who had signed on to direct and wrote a draft of the script, has left the project, citing those reliable old standbys, creative differences.
