BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Marvel's Phase 2 Concept Art

ABC  aired a celebratory one-hour special called Marvel Studios: Assembling A Universe , and with that came some glimpses of its upcoming Phase Two projects. Published simultaneously on Marvel's website are these pieces of concept art and snaps of test footage, showcasing Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Ant-Man and Guardians Of The Galaxy . Possible spoilers follow, so don't look if you don't wanna know. First up is Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age Of Ultron , giving us first impressions of Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, and a shot of Hulk and Black Widow by a collapsing building that looks not unlike something from the climax of Avengers Assembled. There's also an image doing the rounds of Iron Man putting his Hulkbuster armour to its intended use. That one isn't part of the official Marvel-released set, but hey, we'll throw it in anyway. Then we've got Edgar Wright's Ant-Man . These four

Paul Bettany Cast As The Vision In The Avengers: The Age of Ultron

Paul Bettany is getting an upgrade. The actor, who has been lending his voice to Jarvis , the computer program-cum-butler in Marvel’s Iron Man movies, has now been cast as iconic Avenger hero the Vision in The Avengers: The Age of Ultron . Joss Whedon is directing the movie, which promises to be chock-a-block with heroes and villains. The cast of the first movie are returning, which will now include Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlett Witch and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver . James Spader is playing the lead villain, Ultron , while Thomas Kretschmann will play Baron Strucker . Bettany’s casting puts Age of Ultron and maybe even Ant-Man into a clearer lens. Ultron is a classic Marvel villain who was created by Dr. Hank Pym, who he looked at as a father figure. He eventually turned on Pym -- and humanity -- and went on to "father" his own creation, the synthetic orange-skinned android known as the Vision. Vision, in turn, rejects Ultron and joins the Avenge

James Spader Cast As Ultron In The Avengers 2

Poor old DC.  Marvel with a casting bombshell that rains on its parade even as it mixes metaphors. What news, you ask? Only that James Spader will play the titular menace in Avengers sequel Age Of Ultron. Originally announced by writer/director Joss Whedon at Comic-Con, Age Of Ultron will see Tony Stark and the shawarma-chomping gang taking on a brand new threat torn from the pages of Marvel comic lore and given a spit-and-polish origin story wash for the big screen. Ultron is a criminally insane, rogue sentient robot dedicated to conquest and the extermination of humanity. He comes loaded with several powers, including, strength, agility, stunning intelligence and, oh yes, a rage-filled loathing for our heroes and an intent to destroy them. Bad robot! Bad! Spader seems like a fine choice to play the role, given his ability to play smarts, snark and menace when required. Plus he should have a proper handle on Whedon’s trademark snappy dialogue, assuming Ultron gets to be quippy. M

Robert Downey Jr Will Be In The Avengers 2 And 3

Robert Downey Jr . has re-signed to play Tony Stark and his shellheaded alter ego Iron Man in The Avengers 2 and 3 . It's exciting news and should put fans' minds at rest following RDJ's hints that he'd considering hanging up the ferrous suit in the near future. As recently as February, Downey Jr. confessed to having considered his, and Iron Man's future in the franchise. "There's been a death and rebirth of egos three times", he told Empire earlier this year. "The third one being in Iron Man 3. Tony's ego and to a certain extent my own as well, when he comes out of the cave he's been made anew, when he comes out of the wormhole, he's gone to a different level of commitment and I think on this one by the end he's transcended his need to be identified with being Iron Man." Iron Man 3's colossal success strengthened Downey's hand at the negotiating table, where we assume some juicy Tony arcs in the Avengers sequ

Quicksilver Joins X-Men: Days Of Future Past

Here’s a turn-up for the (comic) books and no mistake: mere days after Joss Whedon talked about using the characters Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the Avengers sequel, Bryan Singer has tweeted that he’s cast Evan Peters as Quicksilver in X-Men: Days Of Future Past . What's curious is that the original tweet in question has now been deleted - here's a screengrab of what it looked like and the full text is below - and was replaced with an Avengers-free missive, also below. Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver. — Bryan Singer (@BryanSinger) May 23, 2013 So Singer has announced that Peters – who already has a comic book film credit to his name with Kick-Ass’ Todd – is on board for the movie. In case you’re busy spluttering and wondering how he could conceivably turn up in two studio franchises, Pietro (AKA Quicksilver) and twin sister Scarlet Witch (real name: Wanda)

Early Concept Art From The Avengers

It might've ended up as one of the biggest hits of the year, but director Joss Whedon and company had some big decisions to make during the development of The Avengers . How should the new characters look? What about the massive battle in downtown New York? Now, thanks to some early concept art, we know how Marvel's magnum opus evolved. Several pieces of concept art generated by artist Andy Park have been released online, many of which were featured in the recent book The Art of Marvel's The Avengers , and they reveal some of the earliest designs for characters like Hawkeye and Agent Maria Hill. It's interesting to see the tweaks made to the classic comic looks compared to how it ended up on screen. Some of the cooler pics are the designs for Thanos in space and the alien attack on Manhattan, both of which look fairly similar to what made it into the finished product. Park has released dozens of images on his official website , which is well worth a lo

Joss Whedon's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING Arrives In Theaters Next Year

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING will be a joint theatrical release by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions; release date June 7, 2013. The Shakespeare classic comedy was adapted and directed with a contemporary spin by Joss Whedon (THE AVENGERS, last year's Lionsgate release THE CABIN IN THE WOODS) starring Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Nathan Fillion, Fran Kranz, Jillian Morgese, Sean Maher, Clark Gregg, and Reed Diamond . Kai Cole and Joss Whedon produced the film through Bellwether films, with Daniel Kaminsky serving as a co-producer. Shakespeare's classic comedy is given a contemporary spin in Joss Whedon's film, " Much Ado About Nothing ". Shot in just 12 days (and using the original text), the story of sparring lovers Beatrice and Benedick offers a dark, sexy and occasionally absurd view of the intricate game that is love. Writer, director, and producer Joss Whedon hits the big screen again with this inventive, modern-day version of one of William Shakespea

Frank Grillo Could Be Crossbones In Winter Solider?

One of the nicest interviews and coolest guy I have met so far might be getting into the super hero film business. Though this remains one for the Rumor Files until the final decision is made, The Grey ’s Frank Grillo has hit Twitter to drop a hint that he has tested for a role in a Marvel film. He followed that up with one about Marvel fans with #bones and then radio host / comedian Matthew Aaron Show added fuel to the fire, saying that Grillo is close to scoring the role of Crossbones , one of the villains in Captain America: The Winter Soldier . You might not recognize the name but you are sure to know the face. He has starred in Edge of Darkness, Warrior, The Grey and End of Watch . With Joe and Anthony Russo set to start directing the movie in March, casting is naturally in full swing. Grillo certainly seems to fit the physical type for Crossbones , who is often seen in the comics as a henchman of Red Skull and has appeared in Cap’s titles in stories alongside Falco

Nathan Fillion Talks Guardians Of The Galaxy

Fans are itching for Nathan Fillion to star in a live-action Marvel movie. In the past, he's worked with Joss Whedon (Firefly, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog) and James Gunn (Slither, Super), who are both on the studio's payroll. Gunn is slated to direct Guardians of the Galaxy , so we're all wondering whether Fillion's on his cast list. At the moment, Fillion has his hands full with ABC's Castle . But when hiatus hits, would he be open to a Guardians appearance? The actor told MTV, "I'm very busy right now with a job that I'm grateful for. I've made a commitment [to Castle] and I have to see it through. And I'm really happy to." Fillion recently spoke to Gunn about his Marvel gig and claims to have the inside scoop. "We had dinner the other night and he told me all about it, before everyone found out," he said. "I was on the inside on that one. Over some toro, tuna belly, we discussed how excited he is, how nervous

Joss Whedon Will Return For Avengers 2

Marvel reveals Whedon signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. Writing and directing Avengers 2 is part of that deal. Joss Whedon will return to the Marvel Studios fold for a sequel to The Avengers . He also will create a Marvel-related TV series for ABC. Disney CEO Robert Iger revealed the plans during an earnings call Tuesday, during which he boasted about Avengers being the third-biggest movie of all time and that Disney has initiatives in the works to "leverage the power of the Avengers" across the entire company. That Marvel was planning a sequel to the $1.46 billion-grossing movie was not a surprise, but having Whedon back behind the camera definitely will make execs breathe easier. Whedon was one of the key components to the success of the movie, with his deft screenwriting and knowledge of the superhero characters frequently cited for the high marks the movie got from critics and fans alike. Having

The Avengers Maybe Heading To ABC

After scoring huge at the box office with its Avengers movie, Marvel is looking to explore the mythology on the small screen too. I’ve learned that Marvel’s TV division is in conversation with ABC and ABC Studios about doing a drama series in the Avengers world. I hear that the connection to the Avengers franchise would be light as the project is expected to be set in the universe and feature some of its themes and feel, but may not include any characters from Joss Whedon’s blockbuster. I hear the project is in a nascent stage, described as “a kernel of an idea,” with a number of scenarios being explored, including a high-concept cop show. Marvel has already given the Avengers the animated treatment with Disney XD’s The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the upcoming Avengers Assemble . Establishing a primetime foothold has been a priority for Disney-owned Marvel. The company has developed several projects for ABC Studios over the last couple of years, one of which, a Hul

Anthony Mackie To Star As Falcon In Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Marvel isn't resting on its laurels after a victory lap at Comic-Con this weekend. The studio moving ahead on casting its latest project Captain America: The Winter Soldier . Anthony Mackie is in negotiations to star alongside Chris Evans in the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger that is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. The film will be released April 4, 2014. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the subtitle suggests a respected comic book storyline from the 2000s that resurrected Captain America's sidekick Bucky as a brainwashed super-assassin known as the Winter Solider. While Marvel would not comment nor divulge character details, it is believed that Mackie will portray the Falcon , one of mainstream comics' first black superheroes and perhaps its first American one. The character, Sam Wilson, is Harlem-based and had many street adventures with Cap in the 1970s comics, when he served as his partner. He derives his powers from a sui
