Daredevil Returns Home To Marvel

The blogosphere is going wild as Marvel chief Kevin Feige does interviews for Iron Man 3 and acknowledges that Daredevil has returned to the Marvel fold at Disney. We told you this was going to happen last August, when a last ditch attempt to shape a movie with Joe Carnahan cratered. Ben Affleck starred in the original film, and he’s doing way more interesting things now as a writer/director/actor/producer. Without him, it was pretty clear that Fox wasn’t confident about bankrolling a superhero-sized movie based on the character and that the brass at the studio wasn’t at all upset about coming out on the losing end of the witching hour of when Marvel and Disney got back those rights. The intrigue will be to see if Marvel vamps the blind lawyer character, and whether he begins showing up in other superhero movies and maybe a sequel to The Avengers. They certainly have made The Hulk viable after he was pretty much thought to be dead as disco. Here’s what we said last August: Direc

Joe Carnahan All In For Mark Millar's Nemesis

Earlier this week, Mark Millar revealed that work was still ongoing with the big screen adaptation of his and Steve McNiven's Nemesis , and the wriiter has now confirmed (via the Millarworld Forums ) that Joe Carnahan will indeed direct and write the screenplay alongside his brother Matthew. The former was recently in the running to helm a 1970s set Daredevil movie for Fox, but issues with the rights now means that that will not be happening. With any luck, that bad news for fans of the "Man Without Fear" will be good news for fans of Nemesis. As you can see from the comments below, there's currently no word on casting, although it definitely sounds as if we should expect to see Liam Neeson as Det. Blake Morrow if talks end up working out. "Shot straight from a wedding in Manchester last week to the City of Angels and plunged straight into some studio biz on the Nemesis movie. Mighty Joe Carnahan is directing (from a script by he and his brother Matthew)

Benicio del Toro To Star In Paradise Lost

Several filmmakers, including, most notably Joe Carnahan , have attempted to capture the story of Colombian cocaine trafficker Pablo Escobar on celluloid. But few have gotten their projects through development. Now actor-director Andrea di Stefano is set to get shooting, and has scored Benicio del Toro to play the lead in Paradise Lost . The director also wrote the script, which takes an original approach to portraying the man. It’ll focus on Nick, a young surfer who goes to visit his brother in Colombia and falls for a local girl called Maria. But there’s a problem with Maria, and one Nick can’t easily solve – her uncle is Pablo Escobar . And so the film is described more in the vein of The Last King Of Scotland : it’s not a direct biopic of Escobar, but will instead weave the young lovers’ story around Escobar’s actions. Di Stefano is planning to start shooting this March in Panama. As an actor, he’ll also be seen on our screens in Life Of Pi, which arrives on December 2

Joe Carnahan’s Sizzle Reel Pitch For Daredevil Film That Will Never Be

Well, the studio tried, but its heart just didn’t seem in it. On the heels David Slade dropping outof  dropping out of the character reboot and Joe Carnahan’s pitching to take over, 20th Century Fox has apparently decided to let the rights to Daredevil lapse back to Marvel Studios. Regular version- Watch the NC-17 rated version- after the Jump... Variety reports that the clock is ticking down and that, while Fox was enthused by Carnahan’s pitch, there was just wasn’t the time to develop it properly and get the movie into production before the October deadline. This means that the Marvel team led by Kevin Feige will likely be back in control of Matt Murdock, Kingpin, Bullseye and the rest later this year. Despite Carnahan embracing the chance to make a grittier take on the blind lawyer-turned-superhero, he tweeted yesterday that it was looking increasingly unlikely. "Think my idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke today kid

THE GREY Blu-Ray Review By: Matt C

THE GREY Blu-Ray Review By: Matt C THE GREY is an uncompromising, engrossing film that suffers from a dissapointing Blu-ray release. Warning: plot spoilers ahead. Liam Neeson Interview For THE GREY Part 1- Death is uncompromising and unrelenting. No matter your physique, personality, or social standing, death will find you regardless if you're ready for it or not. This is where  THE GREY  exists, thriving on that moment when the end of life arrives. The Grey is less man-vs-wolf showdown, more about how man deals with imminent danger and even death. Each scene of this film is difficult to watch and that's a good thing, from the hostile environment of the frozen wastes of Alaska to the way each of our characters meets their end. In a world where Hollywood glorifies the hero standing in triumph,  THE GREY  is a winner for its realistic view of the way people face death.
