BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Movie Review: 'Terminator Genisys'

Terminator Genisys seeks a revisionist tone while slapping its hardcore fans in the face. Review by Matt Cummings There's a new trend in Hollywood these days: the expand-quel, either telling stories around the main plot ( 300: Rise of an Empire ), forgetting huge chunks of its filmography ( Jurassic World ), or establishing their universe in an alternate reality (2009's Star Trek ). The results have been less than consistent, dividing fans in an effort to pack in audiences hungry for nostalgia. And while Terminator Genisys has plenty of that, it still utterly fails to do anything new, different, or even moderately interesting. In a dystopian future run by murderous machines, mankind is about to strike back. Led by the hero John Connor (Jason Clarke), he and friend Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) learn that their victory is short-lived, as another Terminator has been sent back in time to alter history once again. When Reese is sent back to 1984 expecting to help a f

J.K. Simmons Open to Reprising J. Jonah Jameson in Future Spider-Man Film

Actor hints at a return for the blowhard Bugle bigwig. By Brandon Wolfe Despite the wildly uneven quality of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, the one thing pretty much everyone can agree upon is that J.K. Simmons’ performance as J. Jonah Jameson was terrific. Simmons’ interpretation of Peter Parker’s blustery Daily Bugle boss was so memorable that the creators of the Andrew Garfield Spidey reboot films notably did not use the character, presumably in a tacit acknowledgment of how unfillable those shoes were. Simmons owned that character to such a fundamental extent that replacing him seems unfathomable in a way that wasn’t even true of Spider-Man himself. Fans have often stated that they would be totally fine with Simmons reprising his role as Jameson in future Spider-Man films otherwise unconnected to Raimi’s troika, not unlike how Dame Judi Dench was kept on as M in Casino Royale in spite of the rebooted timeline, and now that might actually come to pass. While being inter

Men, Women, and Children Review: A Preachy, Sobering Teen Tale

Men, Women, and Children will make you want to check your teen's computer... a lot. In Director/Writer Jason Reitman's Men, Women, and Children we see a world where teens and the Internet have become inexorably attached, with one dependent on the other for everything except sustenance. Content to barely communicate outside of their phones and computers, teens live in a world where the sharing of porn and cyber-bullying one another for the smallest offense is a daily exercise right next to bulimia and sex. At least that's what Reitman wants you to believe. In this case, he would be mostly right: the movie does a solid job of frightening every parent into spot-checking their child's phones and diets from now until they're 30. Following the lives of four families in Austin, Texas we learn of the sexually available cheerleader (Olivia Crocicchia) and her failed actress mother (Judy Greer), who posts racy photos of her daughter hoping to win a competition

Whiplash Clip "Rushing or Dragging"

Damien Chazelle’s coming-of-age – or perhaps, given the subject matter, it should be drumming-of-age – music film Whiplash already has plenty of positive buzz about it thanks to a multiple award-winning appearance at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Whiplash features Miles Teller as Andrew Neyman, an ambitious 19-year-old jazz drummer who attends a high-profile music conservatory, where legendary teacher Terence Fletcher ( J.K. Simmons ) rules the roost. But Andrew discovers that reaching for perfection comes with a price, as Fletcher is a hot-tempered, oft-maniacal bully. In this clip, Fletcher demonstrates the difference between rushing your tempo and dragging, a point he gets across by throwing a chair at the young man and slapping him. It’s the sort of teaching method R. Lee Ermey’s Sergeant Hartman would probably appreciate. Watch the clip after the Jump... Simmons, while he’s played softer characters in some of Jason Reitman’s films and TV work, is spectacular as th
