Marco Ramirez will write the script based on the popular Japanese manga. “ Akira ” is alive and well at Warner Bros., which has hired “ Daredevil ” writer Marco Ramirez to adapt the popular Japanese manga, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap . Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way banner are producing with Andrew Lazar (“American Sniper”) and his company Mad Chance. Warner Bros. executives Drew Crevello and Nik Mavinkurve will oversee the reconfigured project for the studio. Jaume Collet-Serra was set to direct “ Akira ” back in 2012 but Warner Bros. pulled the plug on the project due to issues surrounding the budget, script and casting. At the time, the studio had been in discussions with Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe and Helena Bonham Carter . If you've not been following the troubled, off-again/on-again production of Disney's The Lone Ranger , here's a quick rundown: origin story with werewolves (no I'm not kidding) gets pulled by Mouse House after its creators can't guarantee the pricetag wouldn't stay below $250 million, then is suddenly resurrected once the monsters are removed. But, does Disney's decision to ditch the dogs represent a dodged bullet (no pun intended)? Luckily, the answer is yes: The Lone Ranger is fun and entertaining, even though it's too long. DARK SHADOWS Movie review By: Matt C Does  DARK SHADOWS  honor the trippy original, or cast further doubt on the Depp-Burton alliance? DARK SHADOWS  is a strange film to pin down, and that's usually a good thing for director Tim Burton (Batman). Over 10 films, he and actor Johnny Depp (Public Enemies) defined the genre of wacky with brilliant brush strokes, painting lush environments with memorable characters who defied convention. And while  DARK SHADOWS  contains its fair share of all the above, the film really exemplifies the "Jack of All, Master of None" mentality, something very un-Burton like. It doesn't know what it wants to be half the time, straddling between action, bizarre camp comedy, and watered-down horror, but doing none of them very well.
