A couple of weeks ago, we reported that Ethan Hawke planned to star in James DeMonaco’s sci-fi thriller Vigilandia . Now he’ll have some company, because Lena Headey has been cast in the female lead. As for what the film is about, we still can’t say. Not because we’re being difficult, but because DeMonaco and his producers are keeping the details strictly under wraps for now. What we do know is this: the film will be very low budget, with Variety describing it as somewhere around the level of Insidious. That's not shocking, since that film’s producer Jason Blum is also helping to get this one made. His Blumhouse company is working alongside Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes to drum up the cash, and now Universal has agreed to provide the much-needed boost. Ethan Hawke will star in Vigilandia , a futuristic thriller that Blumhouse Productions, Platinum Dunes and Why Not Productions are making for Universal. James DeMonaco wrote the script and is directing the low-budget movie, which is to begin production Feb. 13. Vigilandia is the first movie to be made under Blumhouse’s first-look deal with the Universal, signed last summer. The shingle, run by Jason Blum, made its name in the horror field with the low-budget Paranormal Activity series as well as Insidious , one of the most profitable movies of 2011. Blum is producing with Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, who have produced remakes of The Amityville Horror and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre , among others. In what will instantly become one of this season’s highest-profile drama projects, Deadline reports that Ethan Hawke and Vince D’Onofrio have teamed with writer-producer Chris Brancato for a cop drama that has been nabbed by NBC with a production commitment. Brancato conceived the project, titled Blue Tilt , and took it to Hawke and D’Onofrio, who helped shape it. All three will executive produce. The show will star Hawke and D’Onofrio as two seasoned homicide detectives — one married and one divorced — as they solve cases while dealing with their wives/ex-wives and kids. The title Blue Tilt refers to a cop term for homicide detectives who, as a result of dealing with particularly brutal crimes, become a danger to themselves and are put under psychiatric observation. Are you ready for your first official look at Colin Farrell as the new Doug Quaid ? He's a little thinner than Arnold Schwarzenegger's version, but Farrell's got the "what the hell's going on" stare down to a science! The new Total Recall is directed by Len Wiseman (of the Underworld series) and takes place in an area of nation-states that include Euromerica and New Shanghai. It's here that factory worker Douglas Quaid (Farrell) begins to believe that he's a spy but doesn't know which side has hired him. The first official photo from Total Recall appears in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, where Farrell describes the movie as "much less jokey" than the 1990 version. He claims that the tone will be completely different than what we saw in the past. "There's not as much tongue-in-cheek," he says. Judging from this photo, Total Recall has plenty of dark moments. John Cho (Star Trek) has joined Total Recall , Sony’s remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi action film that begins shooting Monday in Toronto. Cho will play McClane, the smooth-talking rep for the mind-messing company that tempts Colin Farrell’s Douglas Quaid to implant fantastic memories into his brain. Bob McClane  was originally played by Ray Barker in the " Total Recall " “ Bob McClane ,” a Rekall manager and sales agent who convinces Quaid to buy an “Ego Trip” memory implant. Bryan Cranston has been cast as the futuristic villain played by Ronny Cox in the original film, and Ethan Hawke will have a small role as well. Ethan Hawke is boarding Total Recall , Columbia’s Colin Farrell-starring remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie. The original movie, based on the Philip K. Dick story, We Can Remember It for You Wholesale, followed a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. The man comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony, where he fights to overthrow a despotic ruler controlling the production of air. The new story ditches the Martian storyline and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn't know for which side. Played by Ethan Hawke, Edward is the main character of the latest vampire movie, Daybreakers . It is 2019 and a virus that emerged 10 years ago has turned most of the population into vampires. The vampires have been farming humans for their blood and the supply has run low. The search is on for a blood substitute and Edward is leading that search. Edward is a conflicted vampire. You find out that he never wanted to become a vampire and avoids feeding on human blood. He has an accidental meeting a group of human survivors which leads to an important discovery. One of these humans, played by Willem Dafoe, has an interesting story to tell. I enjoyed the movie. I am not a big fan of gore and it was gory in some parts but it fit with the storyline and wasn’t too extreme.
