Director Dean Israelite and his design team would modernise – or in this case, weird-up – the look of their loyal robot pal, Alpha 5 . IGN got their hands on the first image. Alpha 5 (who will be voiced in this incarnation by Bill Hader ), is the enthusiastic artificial intelligence known for outbursts including his trademark "ay-yi-yi-yi!". And from the looks of this, he's been at the hormone supplements. With Bryan Cranston voicing powerful, peaceful alien Zordon and Elizabeth Banks physically present as villain Rita Repulsa, the movie will find the Rangers battling Rita's evil schemes and defending the Earth while figuring out their own teenage issues. EW scored the first image of the cast photo from the upcoming reboot of THE POWER RANGERS . The new cast — singer Becky G as Yellow Ranger Trini, Ludi Lin as Black Ranger Zack, Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger Jason, Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger Kimberly, and RJ Cyler as Blue Ranger Billy — will don translucent extraterrestrial armor that crystallizes around their bodies. It’s time for Elizabeth Banks to conquer Earth — as Rita Repulsa , that is. The actress stars as the iconic monster-unleashing villain in the upcoming reboot of the small-screen franchise about five teens with attitude and abilities to round up alien menaces. Unlike her ’90s-era counterpart, Banks’ Rita sports lighter, sleeker headgear, including gold accents and a green rope entwined around her ponytail. “It’s definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa,” Banks tells PEOPLE. “We wanted to give her a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers.” Even better: Banks gets to flex her evil-doing muscles in the role. As someone who found the premise beind The Hunger Games to be barely agreeable, I have come to enjoy their play on the big screen, both as a zeitgeist meter and for the way it launched Actress Jennifer Lawrence's career. Along the way, I appreciated its gripping social commentary, as well as the violent and bloody conflict given to us in the form of gladitorial tributes. But with four films under its belt, the series feels as war-weary as its subject, no longer reflecting its namesake, and perhaps proving that YA-based movies might be truly dead. As the showdown between Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and President Snow (Donald Sutherland) approaches its zenith, the citizens of the various Districts band together to wage war against Panem's sadistic leader. Elizabeth Banks is going bad. The actress has signed on to star as the villain in Power Rangers , Lionsgate’s big-screen take on the 1990s kids television show, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Dean Israelite, who helmed the time-travel found-footage movie Project Almanac, is on board to direct the project, which is being produced by Saban Brands’ Haim Saban and Brian Casentini as well as Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. Variety is reporting Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns has indicated that the studio is exploring developing prequels to its “ Hunger Games ” franchise. Burns made the disclosure Tuesday at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference in New York, saying that the franchise “will live on and on.” But Burns gave no specific details as to what form that would take. The fourth film, “ The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 ,” is trailing the other movies in the series at the same point of release, with $227 million at the U.S. box office after three weekends. International grosses have hit nearly $300 million. Burns noted that the first two films contained arenas — where the 74th and 75th versions of the Hunger Games competitions took place — while the second two did not, and said younger fans missed the arenas in the latter pics. “If we went backwards there obviously would be arenas,” he added.
