Dead Man Down Review By: MattInRC Does Dead Man Down establish itself as the next Donnie Brasco? Read our review to find out. Although the Collin Ferrell/Terrence Howard thriller Dead Man Down seeks to answer a fairly basic question of revenge, it's also a story about what happens when humanity gets in the way. Ferrell (Total Recall 2012) plays the Hungarian Victor, a strong arm for Howard's (Crash) Alphonse, who's recently been sent a series of strange letters and pictures. Alphonse's eyes have been crossed out of them, leading the drug lord to suspect that one of his competitors is gunning for him. What he doesn't know is that Victor is the secret admirer, via a tragic event that I won't share here, because it will be key to your enjoyment of the movie. Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper are starring in the pic, which is being directed by Scott Waugh and is based on the Electronic Arts video game. The story tells of a local street-racer ( Paul ) who partners with a rich and arrogant business associate ( Cooper ), only to find himself framed by his colleague and sent to prison. After his stint in the joint, he joins a New York-to-Los Angeles race to get revenge. Having secured the services of Aaron Paul and, just a few days ago, Imogen Poots, Scott Waugh and the Need For Speed team are keeping the pedal to the metal in terms of casting. Now they have Dominic Cooper negotiating to take the third lead role. The eventual movie will inherit the spirit of the Electronic Arts video game franchise, but George and John Gatins’ script isn’t based on any one of the titles. Instead, it’ll follow an underground race driver ( Paul ) who has diversified and also runs a garage that modifies fancy cars to boost their power. The world of historical fiction has been the subject of many classic novels, which use real historical time periods but fictional characters and situations to tell its story. In those worlds, reality is skewed just enough to make its existence in the real timeline plausible. Novels like Horatio Hornblower, I Claudius, and Patrick O'Brien'sMaster and Commander series were all eventually made into movies that experienced varying levels of success. But the movie  ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER  is different, existing in a highly-stylized world of ultra-violence and slow-motion edits, but told from the perspective of an actual historical figure. So the producers of action thriller Dead Man Down will be hoping he actually signs on. Dead Man Down finds original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo director Niels Arden Oplev reuniting with his star, Noomi Rapace and adding Colin Farrell for a tale of revenge and death. Farrell will be a grieving husband and father infiltrating the crime syndicate responsible for his family’s death who also deals with Rapace as a mysterious, scarred, beautiful woman who knows a lot about his past.
