T.J. Miller Is Weasel In The Upcoming #Deadpool Film

We’ve known for a while that comedian and actor T.J. Miller is on board for the new Deadpool film, but 20th Century Fox had not divulged his character. Now, in typically idiosyncratic style on Twitter , Miller has been dropping hints about the role and finally confirmed the news with a picture that appears to have been taken at a read-through for the movie. In the comics, Weasel, AKA Jack Hammer , is a college contemporary of Peter Parker, who lived the early part of his life as a relatively harmless, if genius-level nerd. But after crossing paths with Deadpool, he became the Merc with a mouth’s weapons dealer and tech guy, which sounds like what he’ll be up to in the film. Ryan Reynolds is on as the title character, the former soldier/mercenary who is diagnosed with cancer and turns to the Weapon X programme for help. Their treatments leave him horribly scarred but also endowed with super powers. Gina Carano, Morena Baccarin and Ed Skrein are also all part of the cast.

Neill Blomkamp's Alien Fantasy Film Becomes a Reality

Alien gets a resurrection thanks to Instagram. By Brandon Wolfe District 9 director Neill Blomkamp created a stir recently when he posted to his Instagram page a series of Alien concept art images he had commissioned independently as an unsolicited “what if?” fantasy project. Blomkamp stated at the time that he did this for fun and that he did not expect any of it to ever come to fruition. Yet sometimes fantasies do come true, as both the director and 20th Century Fox have now confirmed that Blomkamp will indeed be bringing his Alien vision to life. Ridley Scott, the granddaddy of the Alien franchise, will produce the film through his production company, Scott Free. The project will coexist with the upcoming Prometheus sequel that Scott is still making for some reason. Though Sigourney Weaver has not yet signed onto the new film, she recently expressed enthusiasm for the idea and has just worked with Blomkamp on the upcoming Chappie . Given that the concept art show

X-Men: Apocalypse and Deadpool Casting News

See why two signings in the X-men universe mean very different things for their respective films. Story by Matt Cummings With X-Men: Days of Future Past still basking in its critical and financial success from last summer, it's clear that Director Bryan Singer hit almost every note with his return to the franchise. That's a big difference when comparing it to the disaster that is the Spider-man camp, as Sony recently agreed to 'lend' back the iconic character to Marvel in an effort to boost his damaged reputation. There is none of that over at 20th Century Fox, where both Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse begin their pre-production schedules with as much inertia as we've ever seen from these respective franchises. For both, the news continues to flow in, as major casting news was announced today, giving us a better idea of the various characters that will appear. First comes Apocalypse , as we've learned that Kodi Smit-McPhee ( Dawn of the Planet

Gina Carano & T.J. Miller Join Deadpool

Gina Carano has closed a deal to join Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool , Fox's action movie based on the wisecracking mercenary Marvel character. Tim Miller is directing the action adventure project, which is eyeing a March start in Vancouver. Lauren Shuler Donner is producing. Reynolds is an assassin who is dying of cancer who undergoes a procedure that is supposed to cure him but ends up twisted and scarred while also imbued with super-powers. T.J. Miller is set to bring comedic relief to the movie in an undisclosed role. And, fanboy alert: The Russian X-Men character known as Colossus is slated to appear in the movie. Carano will play a character known as Angel Dust. It is unclear how she fits into the proceedings, but in the Marvel comics, the character was part of an underground mutant group known as The Morlocks. Before she tackles Deadpool, however, Carano will star opposite Bruce Willis in Extraction, an action movie from Emmett-Furla and Aperture Entertainment. Stev

Some Actors Not Appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse?

Learn who said they and another actor might not be appearing. Story by Matt Cummings The return of the X-Men franchise in 2014 was flat-out one of the riskiest projects, but the time-traveling X-Men: Days of Future Past proved it could successfully blend time travel with two universes of actors into a fun and rewarding project. The film also reset certain unpopular storylines from X1-X3 which had alienated fans and put the franchise itself on shaky ground. One of the reasons for the success of DOFP was the return of Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier and Ian McKellen as Magneto. Both of whom were and still are popular in the movie universe, and perhaps Stewart is as best known for his iconic performance as he is for Star Trek: The Next Generation 's Captain Jean-Luc Picard. But while fans could breathe a sigh of relief at Stewart's return, DOFP set up a whole new series of questions about the next film, X-Men: Apocalypse . Aside from the appearance of

It's Chimichanga Time. Ryan Reynolds Confirms Deadpool Role

Though it would seem to be little more than a formality at this point, there was no official confirmation, when 20th Century Fox announced that the Deadpool film was actually happening, that Ryan Reynolds would return. He’s now busy making a deal for the film, and announced that less-than-cryptically via Twitter . Deadline, meanwhile, reports that he’s in the middle of closing a deal for the film, which VFX expert-turned-director Tim Miller will wrangler together starting in March. Despite his eventually silenced form in X-Men Origins: Wolverine , the character best known as Wade Wilson, the Merc With A Mouth is normally found chattering away about everything, and even breaking the fourth wall as he goes about his missions. Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have written the script, and have said in the past that they intend to honor the character’s wisecracking, meta nature. The test footage that arrived online in the middle of the year certainly kept that sp

It's Finally Going To Happen. #Deadpool Film Slated For 2016

Twentieth Century Fox and Marvel Comics are moving ahead with their long-gestating X-Men spinoff Deadpool . On Thursday, the studio announced that the movie will hit theaters Feb. 12, 2016. Tim Miller is set to direct the film, with Ryan Reynolds long rumored to star, although no deal is set. (Bets are that he will.) The beloved Marvel character Deadpool, aka Wade Wilson , is a talkative mercenary with a host of powers, including the ability to heal rapidly. Reynolds played Wilson in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine , while Scott Adkins played the character of Deadpool after Wilson had transformed. News of Deadpool's release comes weeks after test footage of the project leaked briefly online. The sequence, featuring Reynolds, was shot several years ago, but nevertheless sparked intense conversation on social media. In a recent interview, Reynolds commented on the leak, suggesting it helped move the process along. "The movie has been in a state of limbo for a wh

Deadpool Test Footage Clip

While the Deadpool movie appears to be still unable to find a strong foothold at 20th Century Fox, it has been in development for years. Thanks to director Tim Miller, the Merc With A Mouth got closer than other attempts. Along with Blur Studios, he created a short piece of test footage to show how Deadpool might work on screen. A snippet of that leaked recently, but now Miller and co. have officially put it online. Featuring voice and mo-cap contributions from Ryan Reynolds – who has been trying to push the movie forward for years since playing a less-than-successful version of Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine – it’s a violent, funny, thrilling piece of 'what if?' filmmaking, one that is almost certain to delight those hoping for a snarktastic, fourth-wall shattering, R-rated take on the wise-cracking superhero. X-Men Origins: Deadpool Has Found It's Man

20th Century Fox has set VFX expert Tim Miller to direct X-Men Origins: Deadpool . Deadpool will serve as the directorial debut for the man, who has done effects work on the Bryan Singer-directed X-Men movies, Daredevil and Scott Pilgrim vs the World , among others. The Marvel character Deadpool, a.k.a. Wade Wilson , is a talkative mercenary with a host powers, including the ability to heal at a fast rate. Ryan Reynolds played Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, while Scott Adkins played the character of Deadpool after Wilson had transformed. Reynolds is at this stage attached to star in the movie, though script and scheduling could ultimately effect his involvement. Ryan Reynolds Wants A Deadpool Film

Though DC diehards will no doubt be eagerly anticipating the big screen arrival of Green Lantern come June 17, there are still millions of us just as excited about the potential of Marvel’s “ Merc With The Mouth ” getting his chance to shine in his own lead role. Empire was on set to speak with Mr. Reynolds himself for our feature on the willpower-wielding cosmic cop (see the current issue), we took a bit of time out with him to talk about Deadpool , beginning with the obvious question… what’s the deal there then? “Deadpool’s still in the works,” he insists. “I’m not sure how logistically it works in terms of scheduling, but yeah, I want it to happen.” And what about the clash of two potential superhero brands, Green Lantern vs. Deadpool? “Those two universes are completely different,” contends Reynolds. “Superhero movies are so pervasive in pop culture, I don’t look at the as superhero roles as much as just roles. They’re such different people. Deadpool is about a guy in a

Marvel Superhero Will Appear In The Deadpool Movie?

Which Other Marvel Superhero Will  Appear In The Deadpool Movie? Here’s the dish from New York Comic-Con on which Marvel universe characters you can expect to see in the promised Deadpool movie. I can tell you that there’s definitely one guest star lined up that really took me by surprise. So if you don't want to find out who might be appearring then turn away now ! Of course, some of the characters are very closely associated with Deadpool anyway. There’s Blind Al , Deadpool’s sort-of-roommate, and Patch , the barman-come-mercenary dispatcher who gives Deadpool his jobs. I’m sure you were already expecting those. Then there’s several Weapon-X characters, including (but not limited to) Wyre, Ajax, Sluggo and Garrison Kane . Wade Wilson’s love affair with Vanessa Carlysle is apparently a key part of the story, though I’ve been promised that she’s never seen in her Copycat guise and there’s no indication she’s a mutant at all. But this won’t be a mutant-shy production…

Ryan Reynolds Talks Deadpool Film

The Merc With A Mouth Talks Deadpool Film Ryan Reynolds hopes to be the face of two competing superhero franchises with “ Green Lantern ” and “ Deadpool ” but, after reading the gleefully subversive script for the latter, he isn’t too concerned about moviegoers getting the characters confused. “It goes in such a different direction than a superhero movie usually goes,” Reynolds said over lunch recently at 101 Coffee Shop. “It’s a nasty piece of work. It’s just based in so much emotional filth, completely. It’s like ‘Barfly‘ if it were a superhero movie. It sort of treads into the world of an emotionally damaged person. I always say that Deadpool is a guy in a highly militarized shame spiral…. It’s so different than the superhero movies to date, it departs so far from that.” In “ Green Lantern ,” due next summer, Reynolds plays Hal Jordan, the cocky but courageous test pilot who becomes the first human member of the Green Lantern Corps, an interstellar peacekeeping group armed wi

Robert Rodriguez Approached To Direct "Deadpool" Film

Robert Rodriguez Approached To Direct "Deadpool" Film  We just found out that Fox has approached Robert Rodriguez to direct the upcoming film Deadpool staring Ryan Reynolds. Rodriguez has confirmed he has read the script. "They sent me a script to read, [but] I've been really swamped with this other stuff," Rodriguez said. "I've not decided whether ... anything I do would be after 'Spy Kids' — that gives some breathing room. So whether or not I would help develop or not is the question right now." And what did he think of the script? "It was really good," Rodriguez enthused. "It wasn't supposed to be sent out, it was one of those early drafts, they were probably like 'Robert just finished 'Predators,' let's see what he thinks at this early stage' ... I got an early sneak peek at it." Rodriguez added that he is a fan of Ryan Reynolds continuing with the role and that he did a great job in wo

G.I. JOE 2 Sent Out Special Mission To Zombieland Writers

G.I. JOE 2 Sent Out Special Mission To Zombieland Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been in the news this week when it was announced they had officially signed on to pen DEADPOOL for 20th Century Fox. IESB has exclusively learned that not only are these two writing the script for the Merc with the Mouth, they've also just been handed the sequel to G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA that hit theaters this past August with Stephen Sommers at the helm. We've reached out to Paramount and WME and are awaiting further comment. RISE OF COBRA was a big summer success released in theaters August 7 and grossing over $300 million in worldwide box office receipts alone as well as a ton of money in DVD and toy/merchandise sales. Reese and Wernick are most known for their work on the Sony Pictures' horror hit ZOMBIELAND that starred Woody Harrelson and grossed just under $100 million worldwide. "Deadpool," Film Gets "Zombieland" Writers On Board

"Deadpool," Film Gets "Zombieland" Writers On Board 20th Century Fox is making progress with its "X-Men" spinoff, "Deadpool," and has tapped "Zombieland" scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to pen the screenplay. Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as the wisecracking mercenary he portrayed in last year's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." There is no timetable on the Marvel property, though Reynolds has a window after wrapping the "Green Lantern" this summer. Reynolds has been bulking up to play the DC Comics' hero "Green Lantern," which starts lensing next month. This means he would already be in superhero shape if the script for "Deadpool" is ready by summer. Reese and Wernick, who wrote "Zombieland," will stay true to the mythology of "Deadpool" given that Reynolds is a huge fan and protector of the property. The tone of "Deadpool," which features an antihero a

Deadpool Film To Be Written By The Writers Of Zombieland ?

Deadpool Film To Be Written By The Writers Of Zombieland ? The Deadpool movie has been slowly, quietly been percolating over at Fox, and recent days may have seen some important developments. While nothing is official just yet, it looks like Fox could be hiring Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of Zombieland, to script the adventures of the Merc With A Mouth. I did my due diligence and asked around but couldn't get a solid confirmation, so regard this one as a strong rumor. But if it's more than a rumor - and my source tells me there could be a trade break announcing this within days - it's actually a very good sign for Deadpool. While the character was sorely abused in X-Men Origins: Wolverine - seriously, sewing his mouth shut? It was like a personal 'fuck you' to fans of the character - bringing on the folks who wrote Zombieland points to a funny tone that better suits the character. Between Ryan Reynolds insisting that Deadpool would break the fourth wa

Ryan Reynolds Talks Green Lantern And Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds Talks Green Lantern And Deadpool Then again, the 33-year-old can't go into hiding anytime soon. This year, he signed on to two big-budget franchise flicks, "Deadpool" and "Green Lantern." Lucky for him, fanboys couldn't be more excited to see his takes on both iconic comic book characters. I’ve known about Green Lantern my whole life, but I’ve never really followed it before. I fell in love with the character when I met with [director] Martin Campbell. When I sat down with him, I really got what it is that this guy is all about. When you have a guy like Martin Campbell, part of his charm is that he has ba–s of titanium, and the other part is that he’s slightly crazy, and you have to be to take on something with the scope of Green Lantern . He’s less of the director and more of a general. He just really knows strategies, he knows the intricacies, and his attention to detail! It’s infectious. I sat down with him, and I could not even believe wh
