THR is reporting Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista will team up with Sylvester Stallone for Escape Plan 2 , the sequel to the 2013 prison-break thriller. Steven C. Miller, who's helmed action thrillers such as Marauders and Extraction, is directing the project, which will now be a China-U.S. co-production via Beijing-based Leomus Pictures and Emmett/Furla/Oasis. Mark Canton is also among the producers. The pairing of Bautista and Stallone is in line with having two high-wattage action stars fight against, then team up with, each other. In the 2013 movie, Stallone, playing a prison-security specialist who finds himself in a near-impenetrable facility, partnered up with his 1980s action rival Arnold Schwarzenegger. We're now a year away from the much-anticipated (and much-puzzled over) sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 classic Blade Runner . Many of the details are still under wraps, but at least it's no longer untitled: the film is called Blade Runner 2049 . Which makes sense, since the movie is apparently set several (the title makes it three, since the original takes place in 2019) decades after Scott's film. Harrison Ford is back as Rick Deckard, and the world he inhabits has just gotten worse, with environmental catastrophe plaguing humanity. Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Carla Juri, Barkhad Abdi and Dave Bautista are also among the cast, with Sicario and Arrival's Denis Villeneuve calling the shots. Director James Gunn revealed the news Thursday in a special video message for fans, coinciding with Chris Pratt wrapping his filming for the sequel. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens May 5, 2017. Gunn posted a four-minute video on his Facebook page, largely dedicated to him and Pratt thanking the cast and crew for their work. “Everyone here has busted their asses,” Pratt asserted. “This is going to be the greatest spectacle film of all time.” Pratt also praised Gunn for delivering the film on time — the shoot took 90 days — and under budget.
