After several moody, tonally Terrence Malick-style teases for Man Of Steel , and then that impressive, grandiose effort more recently, things kick up a notch further on the action stakes with this combat-laden new trailer. Though there have been several one-sheets online already, we’ve clearly reached the point in the Man Of Steel promotional campaign where the character posters come striding out. Welcome, then, Supes himself, General Zod and super-dad Jor-El . Even though Jor-El’s presence in the film is traditionally limited – he might be one of the sources of advice to son Kal-El ( Henry Cavill ), but he perishes along with the rest of planet Krypton early in the story – Crowe’s star power is being used to help boost the film. Which, along with the character’s iconic status, explains why he gets his own image here along with the others. WB has delivered another great TV spot for MAN OF STEEL with new footage. Keeps looking better and better. The story remains mostly the same (albeit tweaked by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer): Kal-El is sent to Earth and adopted by wholesome, humane farm folk Jonathan ( Kevin Costner ) and Martha ( Diane Lane ) Kent. There, he assumes the identity of Clark Kent and struggles to blend in with humanity while dealing with the fact that he’s a god amongst ants. Then General Zod ( Michael Shannon ) shows up, demanding that Kal-El pledge allegiance to him lest he start destroying this planet that his fellow Kryptonian has come to love and cherish. Oi, Kal-El! Clark Kent! Superbloke! Whatever your name is… A word in your Kryptonian shell-like if we might: flying at incredible speeds with your mouth slightly open is a recipe for disaster. There's already, controversially, not a pair of red pants to be seen, but now we learn there'll also be narry a trace of kryptonite in the film. Given that the glowy green substance is Superman's only weakness, what on Earth is going to make him in any way vulnerable enough for any Zod-fearing drama? Here’s an intriguing casting possibility to chew on going into the holiday weekend. Deadline reports Christopher Nolan has offered the male lead of his next film, Interstellar , to Matthew McConaughey . The character’s name is Cooper and while there is no deal yet, who says no to Nolan? The project is a co-production between Paramount and Warner Bros. Interstellar was originally set up in 2006 by Steven Spielberg , when Paramount owned DreamWorks, and after Spielberg became intrigued by Caltech physicist and relativity expert Kip S. Thorne and his scientific theory that wormholes exist and can be used for time travel. It was Spielberg who set Jonah Nolan to write the script, which made it easy for Christopher Nolan to come aboard after Spielberg left the project. One of the biggest gambles of 2013 is the latest attempt to introduce Superman back to our screens. Though we’ve already gotten a good look at the Man of Steel in, er, Man Of Steel , there’s always room for another picture of Henry Cavill giving us his best Kryptonian orphan in a cape look. Moody and gritty seem so far to be the watchwords for Zack Snyder and Warner Bros.’ new take on Superman in Man Of Steel . Taken from the teaser, it shows Henry Cavill’s Supes in handcuffs being marched down a hallway by soldiers. Obviously we figure Big Red is letting himself be captured in this way – that, or those manacles are somehow fashioned from Kryptonite. Whatever it is, we’ll find out in due course. It’s an intriguing image, blurry and stylish, though somewhat of an odd choice for a teaser.
