BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Brie Larson Is Captain Marvel

Her casting has been all but confirmed for a while now, but at the end of this year's Marvel panel for the San Diego Comic-Con, Brie Larson was brought on stage and introduced as the MCU's Captain Marvel . Larson has the role of Carol Danvers, a skilled test pilot whose DNA is melded with that of Kree warrior Mar-Vell. Subsequently, she gains powers such as flight, enhanced strength, damage resistance and the ability to absorb and re-channel energy. Guardians Of The Galaxy's Nicole Perlman and Inside Out's Meg LeFauve have been at work on the script, but there's no director attached yet. Though it wasn't exactly kept quiet, Larson's presence at the convention was at least easy to explain given that she was also here to promote Kong: Skull Island (the King Kong film put out a first trailer during the Warner Bros. panel). It's a relief to finally have someone officially playing the part, and Larson – who won an Oscar this year for her work in

Brie Larson In Talks To Play Captain Marvel

After winning the best actress Oscar for “ Room ,” Brie Larson has her sights on another marvelous role. Sources tell Variety Larson is in early talks to play Captain Marvel , one of Marvel’s most popular female superheroes, in an upcoming standalone film. It’s unknown where negotiations stand, but sources have told Variety that Larson is their first choice, and that she’s leaning toward playing the part. Marvel had no comment on the story. No director is currently on board. Marvel, however, had always planned to have an actress lined up early, with the idea of possibly introducing her in one of its upcoming films before its “Captain Marvel” movie bows. “Inside Out” scribe Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman are currently writing the script, which follows Carol Danvers, an air force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the super powers of strength, energy project and flight. Kevin Feige is producing the pic.

All Superhero Movies to 2020 (UPDATED...AGAIN)

Guess what happens when we say, "We have the final, final, final version of the list." Story by Matt Cummings Marvel shocked the world (again) this week with the announcement that Ant-Man was getting a sequel, and that the studio had added three more films to its release schedule. We knew our original story back in April couldn't hold, but that's our dumb luck assuming we know the inner mind of the Marvel machine. The The Kree Supreme Intelligence has got nothing on Marvel Studios! Anyways, we've had some time to digest everything and thought it was time to re-re-re-update the master list of DC/Marvel films through 2020. The changes ain't pretty, and there's some interesting suggestions embedded within. Read our thoughts after checking out the list: 2016 February 12: Deadpool (Fox) March 25: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice May 6: Captain America: Civil War May 27: X-Men: Apocalypse (Fox) August 5: Suicide Squad October 7: G

All Superhero Movies to 2020

We have the final, final, final version of the list. Story by Matt Cummings With the sudden announcement of the Sony/Marvel Spider-man deal back in February , the entire Marvel calendar was upended, pushing titles back and others out of the way. We wrote about this back when the news broke , but it's clear that the situation hadn't exactly settled. The addition of 2016's Gambit hadn't yet been figured out, which caused yet another wave of bloggers to hit the UPDATE button on their old stories. But it doesn't end there. Other news - such as the lackluster performance of The Amazing Spider-man 2 which forced Sony to seek out a co-partner in Marvel in the first place - also changed Sony's plans regarding Drew Goddard's Sinister Six , effectively ending its development for the time being. Not one to be left out, the all-new DCCU (DC Cinematic Universe) is also vying for our hearts (and wallets), and with news on that front happening nearly ev

No Post-Credits Scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron

Don’t expect a second helping of shawarma. By Brandon Wolfe The post-credits stinger has been a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe going all the way back to Nick Fury’s introduction at the tail end of Iron Man , but the streak will be broken in Avengers: Age of Ultron . The film will include a mid-credits epilogue, but nothing at the very end, director Joss Whedon tells Entertainment Weekly . “We all came at it separately—we don’t want to chase that,” Whedon said of the famous dinner scene in the original film. “That was a jewel and a weird little quirk. There is nothing at the very end. And that’s not a fake-out. We want people to know so they don’t sit there for ten minutes and then go: ‘Son of a bitch! I’ll kill them!’” Whedon says an attempt was made by all involved to concoct another memorable post-credits treat, but claims that “it didn’t seem to lend itself in the same way, and we wanted to be true to what felt right. The first rule of making a sequel is take t

Has Marvel Already Cast Captain Marvel?

We may see Marvel’s first female superhero much sooner than we thought. By Brandon Wolfe Latino Review has published a rumor that Marvel Studios has already cast the role of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel and is keeping the identity of the selected actress under lock and key. Not only that, but we won’t have to wait until Captain Marvel ’s November 2, 2018 release date to see her in the flesh. We might only have to wait a month and a half, when Avengers: Age of Ultron takes over the world. The Danvers character had appeared in previous drafts of the Ultron screenplay, but was not expected to make her debut in the finished film since work on the Captain Marvel film has yet to begin in any official capacity. But while the rumor is unconfirmed, there is now the distinct possibility that Marvel will get its first female superhero out onto movie screens well ahead of DC’s debut of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman . Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook . On Twitter, foll

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Gets A Rewrite

Chris McCoy is being tapped to rewrite Guardians of the Galaxy , Marvel Studios’ space adventure movie. Galaxy is part of Marvel’s second wave of movies and is the only new title among the crop of mostly sequels featuring Iron Man, Thor and Captain America . It was revealed as the company’s mystery movie in late June and officially announced at Comic-Con in July. While there have been several incarnations of the team in the comics over the years, the movie’s lineup will include Drax the Destroyer , a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos (the villain in the Avengers final-scene tease); Groot , a giant tree-man; Star-Lord , a gun-toting half-human/half-alien intergalactic vigilante; Rocket Raccoon , a genetically engineered animal with a knack for guns and explosives; and Gamora , the last survivor of her species who was saved by Thanos to be his assassin but now battles him. Nicole Perlman wrote the previous draft. Perlman is graduate of

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson To Star In Shazam Film

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson To Star In Shazam Film Ryan Reynolds going to play every super hero out there? Not Captain Marvel. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is going to star as Black Adam in the new Shazam film. I would love to see him finally play a villain in a film. Most of his films he has always been the hero, this would be a nice change for him. Like the old days when he was the villain for some point in WWE . Bill Birch, the co-writer of the upcoming “ Shazam ” feature film has revealed that Ryan Reynolds was his first choice to portray Captain Marvel on the big screen. “I always thought Ryan Reynolds would have been interesting but now that he’s Green Lantern that’s not an option,” Birch told Cinefools . Birch also elaborated on whether he believes Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is still onboard to play Captain Marvel’s nemesis, Black Adam. “My rule of thumb is that no actor is committed to do a movie until the first day of shooting is over with,” Birch

DC Entertainment Coming At You

DC Entertainment Coming At You What Does Warner Brothers and DC Comics do after hearing the news about Disney and Marvel teaming up? They create DC Entertainment to rival that of Marvel . Warner Bros. has restructured DC Comics as a new company, dubbed DC Entertainment Inc., and tapped Warner Premiere topper Diane Nelson as its chief. Warner said the revamp is designed to make better use of DC's massive library of characters. Studio made the announcement Wednesday following months of speculation that a revamping was coming. Of the DC properties, Warner has scored the greatest success from the " Batman " franchise. Upcoming pics based on DC characters include " Jonah Hex ," which is in post-production, and " Green Lantern ," due to start production next year. "DC Comics and its super hero characters are truly touchstones of popular culture, and the formation of DC Entertainment is a major step in our company's efforts to realize the full pote

Shazam Gets a Writer for his own Movie

Shazam Gets a Writer for his own Movie Actor-turned-writer Bill Birch has been tapped to reboot " Shazam !," Warners' adaptation of a DC Comics series featuring Captain Marvel . Geoff Johns, one of the three DC Comics heavyweights hired by the studio to act as consultants on DC projects, is also helping with the kick-start, co-writing the story with Birch. It's somewhat fitting that Birch takes on "Shazam!" as his very name echoes the name of the comic's hero, Billy Batson, a teenager who becomes Captain Marvel when he utters the magic word "Shazam!" The name is an acronym for six gods and heroes of the ancient world as well as their attributes: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Aries, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury. The project, which was housed at New Line for several years, has had a tough time taking flight, with writers William Goldman, Bryan Goluboff, Joel Cohen and Ale
