Maven Pictures and Anonymous Content announced Tuesday that Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig will star in Imogene as the title character. Imogene , Wiig's passion project, centers on a moderately successful New York playwright who fakes a suicide attempt in order to win back her ex-boyfriend, only to be under the custody of her mother, a gambler. Imogene marks the first film for Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler's new production company Maven. Production on the film is set to begin Aug. 8 in New York City. Wiig, also a regular on NBC's late-night sketch show Saturday Night Live, will executive produce with Shari Springer Berman, screenwriter Michelle Morgan and Steve Golin. Alix Madigan will produce with Rattray and Styler. With hits like The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad , producer-director Judd Apatow has spent the past decade as Hollywood's king of guy humor. But the Apatow-produced, female-driven comedy Bridesmaids is on track to pass Knocked Up on Wednesday night as the highest-grossing domestic movie of Apatow's career. That’s not all. Projections show that by Sunday or Monday, Universal's Bridesmaids -- directed by Paul Feig -- will supplant Sex and the City as the top R-rated female comedy of all time domestically. Through Tuesday, Bridesmaids ' North America gross was $148.1 million, just behind Knocked Up , which cumed $148.8 million in 2007, and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby , which earned $148.2 million domestically in 2006. Anyone who enjoys the US version of The Office knows that Ellie Kemper has proved to be a great addition to the cast. And she also provided some solid laughs alongside Kristen Wiig and co in Bridesmaids . Now she’s scored another decent role, signing on to the cast of 21 Jump Street . Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing the film right now in New Orleans, with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum playing police officers assigned to work undercover in a local high school to break up a drugs ring. Kemper will play Ms Griggs, a sweet, if sometimes annoyingly sincere chemistry teacher who finds herself attracted to Tatum’s character and is apparently unable to figure out why he seems older than her other students. And it’s a slight comedy reunion for her and Hill, since she had a memorable moment in Get Him to the Greek . The Knicks star, who's also a fashion designer and actor, is now in discussions with Relativity Media mogul Ryan Kavanaugh to executive-produce " The Strangers 2 ," a sequel to the creepy 2008 chiller " The Strangers ." The original flick starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a couple staying in an isolated summer house who are terrorized by masked assailants. It was produced by Relativity's Rogue division with a mere $9 million budget and grossed more than $80 million worldwide. Shattering numerous records, Warner Bros.’ The Hangover Part II grossed $137.4 million in its five-day launch at the domestic box office. The sequel helped fuel the best Memorial Day weekend on record, and grabbed the best opening ever for a comedy, R-rated or otherwise. Overseas, Hangover opened to $60.3 million from 40 countries--thee times higher than the first Hangover and bringing the sequel's global bow to almost $200 million. Hangover grossed $16.7 million in the U.K., the best ever launch for a U.S. comedy, as well as the top opening of 2011, while it earned $11.9 milion in Australia. DreamWorks Animation and Paramount’s 3D toon Kung Fu Panda 2 also contributed to the boom, grossing roughly $67 million in its first five days (like Hangover, Panda opened on Thursday). Bridesmaids Movie Review By: SandwichJohn Gotta start with this first, the title is misleading. When most guys read the title they think chick flick. Fellas you are truly mistaken. This movie is indeed made for men and women to enjoy and laugh their ass off. So if you want to earn some points with the lady then offer to take her to see the movie, and I all most guarantee you'll like it more then her. Bridesmaids was produced by Judd Apatow (40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up) and should be the first reason you go see it. The second are break out stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy (Samantha Who?,Mike & Molly) and Chris O'Dowd this for sure was his break out role.
