Anne Hathaway is in negotiations to star in “ Mudbound ” director Dee Rees’ “ The Last Thing He Wanted ,” based on the Joan Didion political thriller. Elevated’s Cassian Elwes will produce and The Fyzz Facility’s Wayne Marc Godfrey and Robert Jones will produce and finance. Bloom is introducing the project to buyers in Berlin. Marco Villalobos penned the screenplay, which is “a thrilling story of one woman, alone and unrelenting in a race against time,” according to a statement. Elwes (“Dallas Buyers Club”) optioned the book from Didion to develop it with Rees following their collaboration on “Mudbound,” which received four Academy Award nominations, including one for Rees for adapted screenplay. The film, which is in pre-production, centers on hardscrabble journalist Elena McMahon who finds herself on dangerous ground as the Iran Contra Affair’s arms for drugs plot reaches its tipping point. As gleaned from one of the movie's stars, Sandra Bullock , the new story is not a remake or reboot of the Ocean's films, but rather a new chapter, a spin-off. It'll follow Danny Ocean's sister Debbie ( Bullock ), who gets out of prison and starts to plan a heist involving a priceless necklace and the prestigious Met Gala in New York. To pull off the crime, she'll need to put together a team that includes Lou ( Cate Blanchett ), Nine Ball ( Rihanna ), Amita ( Mindy Kaling ), Constance ( Awkwafina ), Rose ( Helena Bonham Carter ), Daphne Kluger ( Anne Hathaway ), and Tammy ( Sarah Paulson ). She's signed on to star in another, Jenny Mollen's Live Fast Die Hot . Warner Bros. bought the rights to Mollen's collection of witty essays about life, which hit bookshelves in June. They track how her priorities changed from being a hard-partying social media maven with low impulse control who once invited her drug dealer to Passover, to someone ready to tackle the challenges of motherhood. Whoever ends up writing the script will be distilling Mollen's experiences into a narrative. Review by Matt Cummings In Director Nancy Meyers' dramedy The Intern , the retired widower Ben (Robert DeNiro) seeks to give new meaning to his life when he applies for a senior intern program with a fashionable clothing website. At first, the 70-year-old is seriously out of place among an overwhelming amount of hipster men, none of whom seem to have their fahsion or personal games together. But the most difficult person in the office is his boss/owner Jules (Anne Hathaway), who doesn't think she needs the insights of a seemingly old-school tie-wearing retiree. But soon, challenges to her business and home life force Ben into action as the two form a bond that reveals all sorts of unexpected results, with Ben as the indispensable asset and Jules the tough negotiator. Director Meyers seems to think that the modern man can be divided into hipsters and older gentlemen who still wear a tie to work.
