Two new movies hit the wide release schedule this weekend, looking to challenge Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 for box office superiority in the States... and it did not go well for them. No, Star-Lord, Gamora and the rest easily saw off the competition, grabbing $63 million in their second weekend on release across the pond, according to studio estimates. That brings the Marvel sequel up to more than $246 million in the US, and the movie is still doing big business overseas, with a global tally of $630 million. As for the newbies, Snatched , the new Amy Schumer comedy looked to draw in the American Mother's Day crowd with its tale of a mother-daughter duo (co-starring Goldie Hawn as her mom) on a holiday that goes wrong. Laugh out loud! Rama is back. What’s awesome about the movie #Snatched is that it knows exactly you and I need at that given moment. Often times when watching a comedy movie, there’s a bit of a disconnect between what the characters on screen consider to be funny and whether or not we the audience think that that same thing is funny. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Amy Pascal have teamed up for the project, which will try to put a contemporary spin on beauty, feminism and identity. A year ago, Sony hired three scribes to pen separate screenplays, with the studio picking Hilary Winston’s idea and script to work off of. It is expected that Schumer will rewrite the script with her sister, Kim Caramele. A search for a director is also underway. The Barbie doll, launched in March 1959 by El Segundo, Calif.-based Mattel, is one of the biggest toy brands in the world, bringing in $3 billion annually. But it’s a brand that has had to address issues of self-image and race in modern times. The comedy will be Schumer’s first since her breakout hit ' Trainwreck .' THR is reporting Ike Barinholtz , who will be seen in this weekend’s Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising , has joined Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn in the duo’s untitled mother-daughter comedy at Fox. Jonathan Levine will direct the feature, which is being produced by Paul Feig and Chernin Entertainment. The comedy will be Schumer’s first since her breakout hit Trainwreck and is an action-comedy in the vein of Paul Feig’s The Heat. It centers on a mother-daughter duo trapped in a vacation gone wrong. Barinholtz will play Schumer’s brother. Shooting is due to start in June. Barinholtz is ushering in a busy summer. Oscar winner Goldie Hawn is in talks to play Amy Schumer ‘s mother in an upcoming comedy from director Jonathan Levine, an individual familiar with the 20th Century Fox project has told TheWrap . The project would mark Hawn’s return to the big screen after more than a decade, her last feature role having been in the 2002 comedy “The Banger Sisters.” Paul Feig is producing under his Feigco banner along with Chernin Entertainment. Katie Dippold wrote the script and will serve as an executive producer. 20th Century Fox executive Daria Cercek is overseeing the project. The film, which is inspired by Dippold’s relationship with her mother, follows a family vacation gone wrong.
