The East Review. Falls Under It's Own Weight Of Corporate Distrust

The East Review By: MattInRC While a welcomed alternative to typical summer movie fare, The East has its issues. The state of Louisiana is beginning to take shape as the southern location of choice for Hollywood. Films like GI Joe: Retaliation, Broken City , and even 2012 Oscar contenders Django: Unchained and Looper had their origins in The Big Easy. The eco-terrorist drama The East was also shot in Louisiana; and while the Brit Marling/Zal Batmanglij production is a nice alternative to superheroes engaging in city-wide redecoration, its faults almost doom the project. The film starts with shocking images from the Deepwater Horizon disaster: scenes of birds covered in oil, with a frighteningly calm voice-over from Izzy ( Ellen Page , Inception), as she and the elusive eco-terrorist group The East assails a corporate executive's house. But Big Oil isn't the only target on The East's radar: Big Pharma and Big Agro also fall prey to their careful plann

Will Stephen Amell Play Christian Grey?

Who is going to play Christian Grey ? It looks like Stephen Amell knows a bit more about that than we do. With a film version of E.L. James' sexy best seller " 50 Shades Of Grey " in development at Universal, fan have been spending a lot of time speculating who will star in the steamy drama. And while Emma Watson has been getting just plain ornery about reports she'll be playing Anastasia Steele , another actor has just dropped some pretty serious hints that he's in the running to play the mysterious Christian Grey . Stephen Amell , best known for playing the title role in the TV series " Arrow ," has been getting some buzz as a potential Mr. Grey, and he addressed the rumors in a video he posted on his Facebook page . "I get questions about Christian Grey all the time," Amell said in the video. "That project is a long way off. I know this ... because I had a meeting about it. LONG way off. I mean, not THAT long. But not close.

Why Battleship Was A Flop. Director Explains

Though Disney's John Carter took the brunt of the heat for being this year's first flop, another big-budget extravaganza actually did worse: the board-game-inspired alien invasion flick Battleship . To date, Battleship has grossed $59.8 million in North America—nearly $7 million less than John Carter brought in by its fourth week. The film's director, Peter Berg , has finally opened up about the epic flop. He said via The Huffington Post that he hopes to learn from the experience and (hopefully) move on to a more successful project in the future. "I have a movie in theaters right now which has obviously underperformed in many ways. When [a movie] doesn't work, it's an ... interesting opportunity to look at what went wrong and how it went wrong." As for what actually went wrong? According to Berg the concept, and the budget propping it up, were just too "big." "It was a movie that I tried as hard as I could to get inside of. But t

BATTLESHIP Review By: Matt C

BATTLESHIP Review By: Matt C Matt delivers another great movie review and hits it on the mark. BATTLESHIP is a clean miss that borrows too much and inspires too little. Hollywood must really be desperate these days: it's bad enough that audiences have endured reboots ad nausiem, but when we see movies based on popular board games, it's time for an intervention. Take the most recent example of an industry about to go squarely off the tracks  BATTLESHIP -. It looks like Transformers , feels like Top Gun with a hint of Star Trek, and its premise is a mish-mash of several noteworthy alien invasion flicks. While I will admit the ocean backdrop looks and sounds terrific, it's the story which takes on water early. Filled with more cliches than an interview with an NBA player and reeking of second-rate talent, Battleship plods on too long at the beginning and only somewhat redeems itself at the end by parading real-life veterans in front of the cameras to man the old USS

BATTLESHIP Review By:RAMA

BATTLESHIP Review By:RAMA So what did RAMA think of BATTLESHIP? Matt's review to come soon. Congratulations, director Peter Berg , you are now the new Michael Bay, and that’s not a compliment. Just as I suspected.. the experience is like watching Battle: Los Angeles meets Transformers meets full blown advertisement for the U.S. Navy. In the words of that weatherman from the comedy Anchorman.. “Loud Noises!”.. Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate
