It took Johnny Depp to finally rescue his late lamented pal Hunter S Thompson’s The Rum Diary from development hell, where it lingered for nearly a decade before the actor was finally able to get it made via his Infinitum Nihil company. Now the trailer for the movie has arrived online and can be watched - no, experienced - below. Rum Diary finds Depp once more playing a Thompson surrogate, though this time one step removed. He’s Paul Kemp, a booze-guzzling journalist who is sent by his editor ( Richard Jenkins , boasting one of the funniest wigs to grace the screen in ages) to Puerto Rico on assignment. In between bouts of narcotic- and alcohol-influenced madness, he stumbles on a real story, setting up a collision with a corrupt businessman ( Aaron Eckhart ) whose sexy young fiancée ( Amber Heard ) has taken a real liking to Paul. Thompson. Rounding out the cast are Gioviani Ribisi, Richard Jenkins, Aaron Eckhart and Julian Holloway . Paul Kemp ( Johnny Depp ) is an itinerant journalist who tires of New York and America under the Eisenhower administration and travels to Puerto Rico to write for The San Juan Star. Kemp begins the habit of drinking rum and becomes obsessed with the woman Chenault ( Amber Heard ). Battle: Los Angeles Movie Review By: SandwichJohn Going into the film I really didn't know much about it other than what I had seen in the trailers and what I know of the urban legend of the Battle of Los Angeles . The one thing I have to warn you about is the shaky camera work that is used in the film. So you have been warned. From the start of this movie I knew I was going to enjoy it. Once all the trailers are done being shown, the film starts and we are right in the Battle. We see that some kind of strange force has been taking over the world and their last stop on the ride is Los Angles. We are introduced to U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz played by Aaron Eckhart . The Staff Sergeant planned on turning in his paper after serving his 20 for his county. Only if life was perfect. In the background on the TV you can see the damage this strange force is causing the world.
