BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

#MarvelCollectorCorps Review: October 2016

Our (once again) late arrival of Marvel Collector Corps' DOCTOR STRANGE box shows the sub's best and worst faces. Review by Matt Cummings Funko's Marvel Collector Corps was once the top of the heap of sub boxes. But with the disastrous Marvel Stupor Box and August's less-than-awesome Spider-man, we're beginning to look elsewhere. This month's Doctor Strange box is no different, at once displaying Funko's best and worst faces as we consider our future investment. The Promise Before we begin, let's look at the original deal and MCC's current offering: promising a value of $50, regular boxes would keep the "fluff" (their words) to a minimum with Funko partnering each time to deliver an exclusive figure. Regardless if you joined at the Founders level or took on a per-box delivery, the Year One box was offered for an additional cost of $135 after tax. That's approximately the price of 4 regular boxes. Founders (like mys

#StarWarsSmugglersBounty Review: September 2016

September's Star Wars/Funko Smuggler's Bounty sub box is a DEATH STAR-sized box of awesome. Review by Matt Cummings Let's be honest: July's JABBA's PALACE was a massive disappointment. I mean galactic-sized. To be honest, it's been a uneven couple of months for Funko, with the awful YEAR ONE but a really good Marvel Collector Corps . It was time for some good news, and with September's DEATH STAR, we feel the Force returning to protect us, with a strong outing of Funko, a great shirt, and a memorable accessory. Before diving in, let's review the details: The cost for a Month to Month is $25 (plus S/H), or $150 (plus S/H) for a one-year subscription. You get one box every other month, with SB promising $50 in value and no fluff. If you choose the Smuggler membership (yearly), you are promised an additional gift on your anniversary. Guess which one we chose. Again, this month's theme is THE DEATH STAR, showing off the might of T

Summer 2016 #BoxOffice Wrap-Up

Although up from last year, 2016 was a largely creative disaster. Story by Matt Cummings As Summer 2016 wrapped up with a distinct and impending thud last weekend, many studios are licking their wounds as the final numbers were released by sites like BoxOfficeMojo. What began with so much promise quickly descended into a blood bath for nearly 20 blockbusters (those movies with budgets of over $100m), leading many in the business to wonder if their tried (and perhaps) and true formulas for sequels, reboots, and prequels might be running out of steam. The finally numbers aren't great. For the season, the domestic box office was down nearly 2.8% from the previous year, with last weekend delivering just $74.5m. To put that last number into perspective, consider that the last time we saw a return like that was the weekend of Feb. 5-7 ($82m). That horrible number at least brought with it an excuse: a savage Northeast snowstorm closed many theaters. But no such excuse exis

#StarWarsSmugglersBounty Review: July 2016

July's usually-reliable Star Wars/Funko Smuggler's Bounty sub box is a JABBA'S PALACE-sized disappointment. Review by Matt Cummings With our cancellation of Geek Fuel and Loot Crate, we're now committed to the every-other-month sub box model. For the most part, we've felt like we made a good decision, with boxes from Marvel Collector Corps and DC Legion kicking large amount of superhero ass. Unfortunately, the July submission for Smuggler's Bounty (JABBA's PALACE) provides the first disappointment in the oft-month model, and cements growing evidence of malaise and even outright cheapness with this particular line.
