The Flash: New Hero & New Girlfriend?

Interesting Developments Inferred For Season 2

Story by David Clark

To say season 1 of The Flash ended on a cliffhanger is like saying the Hulk is kind of green; understatement of the year right? It should be considered cruel and unusual punishment considering fans like us will have to wait until the fall of 2015 to find out what happens next.

As if anticipation for the premiere was not enough, the latest news from this past week gives people even more reasons to be curious about what The Flash has in store.

It is being reported that casting calls have gone out for two new roles. The first is for a new hero whose identity is yet to be revealed. The second is a new love interest for the scarlet speedster Barry.

For everyone screaming that Barry can not have a new love interest, think about how season 1 ended. Yes, by all indications a combination of Barry and Iris - Biris or Irry - is pretty much a foregone conclusion. It was all but revealed by the Reverse Flash on the show. Many comic books also pair up Barry and Iris. However, the CW has already proven with shows like Arrow that comic book canon is not safe when it comes to creating an entertaining television show. Besides, Iris’s fiancee did literally just commit suicide and bleed out right in front of her eyes. It would take someone with superhuman powers to not be totally traumatized by witnessing such a thing. Iris will not likely be hopping into more relationships anytime soon. All of which paves the way for Barry’s new infatuation Wendy.

Who is Wendy? That is not yet clear. The DC Universe does have several people named Wendy, however whether this particular Wendy correlates to an existing character or is an all new character remains to be seen. The new Flash love interest is going to be an up and coming law enforcement officer in Central City who is scientifically minded, bright, romantic, and spunky. Put simply, just the type of girl Barry Allen is likely to find extremely attractive. Good ol’ Barry will have plenty of opportunities to display that awkward clumsy demeanor he often has around cute girls.

Joining Wendy on the show is a new and unknown superhero. The CW has released very little about the mystery hero, only that said hero will be in their 30’s or 40’s, will be edgy and cynical, and will be around for a big chunk of the 2nd season.

Speculation has run rampant about the new hero. Some believe it might be Hawkman. Others say Jay Garrick because it is believed to be the fellow speedsters helmet that flew through the portal at the end of season 1. Fans are keeping their fingers crossed for yet another theory in which the Green Lantern storyline finally begins. The first season kept fans on the edge of their seats by weaving in interesting side plots and multiple hero personalities. Season 2 looks to be more of the same, which in this case, is the best news ever.

Starring: Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin, Rick Cosnett, Patrick Sabongui
Rating: IMDB has given the show an 8.3 out of 10
Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama

Who do you think will be cast in the role of Barry’s new love interest? Who is this new mysterious hero joining the team in season 2?

Dark Matter Premieres On SyFy

Creator Joseph Mallozzi Shares A Few Last Minute Thoughts.

Story by David Clark

For those who do not know, the SyFy channel has made a commitment on going back to the stars. The days of Firefly, Star Trek, Stargate, and Battlestar Galactica seem like a distant memory and SyFy has decided the space epic drought has gone on long enough.

Dark Matter, premiering Friday June 12th at 10/9c is the first of many shows SyFy has planned. Written by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie as an adaptation of their limited run Dark Matter comic book, Dark Matter is their 10 year vision brought to life.

Most well known for their years writing and producing the Stargate universe, Mallozzi and Mullie had no idea how long the wait would be for Dark Matter to finally take a place on television programming. Revealed in an exclusive interview with Blastr, their original plan was to transition straight from Stargate into Dark Matter. Quickly they learned pitching a new and unknown intellectual property to studios was anything but a sure thing. Set back but not deterred they decided the next logical step would be to make the universe known so it would be easier to get studios on board; thus the Dark Matter comic.

The long wait has not been put to waste. Mallozzi and Mullie have taken advantage of the time to truly flesh out their vision for the universe, characters, and storyline coming into the Dark Matter television show.

When asked to describe what fans can expect during the exclusive interview Mallozzi had several thoughts. He described the show as an episodic format with serialized elements. A system that sounds very similar to those used in the Stargate universe. In addition Mallozzi intends to bring back a style of show whereby the people are not the only characters. He wants to bring the ship into the forefront of the show as an almost inanimate character to which audiences can become attached. Skeptics should not despair just yet, the names Millennium Falcon and Enterprise should give people pause who would dare laugh at the idea of growing fond of a ship.

The concept sounds intriguing but what little is known about the plot might turn people off before they turn the show on. Dark Matter initially tells the story of 6 individuals with amnesia waking up on a ship not knowing who they are, where they are, or what they are supposed to be doing. It is likely that the first season will be spent spinning character twists as one dark secret after another is revealed to fans of the show. Amnesia is, at best, an overused crutch when it comes to writing a story. Having a problem explaining a character's motivations? Give the character amnesia. Have a story breaking reveal that turns a show on upside down? Give the characters amnesia. Given how long the Dark Matter storyline has been under development it seems like a less off putting hook might have been used to open the show. Hopefully Mallozzi and Mullie are aware of the stigma behind amnesia and have developed a unique and creative way to differentiate their show from all the others.

The good news is the wait is over and the answers to many questions are soon to be revealed!

Starring: Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr., Jodelle Ferland, Roger R. Cross, and Zoie Palmer Rating: IMDB has given the show an 8.7 out of 10 Genre: Sci-Fi, Drama, Thriller

TV Review: Hannibal "Primavera"

Will Graham is out for...vengeance?

Review by Brandon Wolfe

Hannibal continues to ease us slowly into its third season like a warm bath. Last week, we caught up with Hannibal and Bedelia on their dreamy – or nightmarish – European excursion, and now we are brought up to speed on Will and Abigail Hobbs. After a replay of last season’s drawn-out, stab-filled climax, Will awakens in a hospital bed to find Abigail greeting him with a large bandage on her neck. She claims that Hannibal knew how to slash her with such surgical precision as to leave her alive, yet despite that, she still claims loyalty to him. She wants to track him down not out of vengeance, but to reunite with the compelling man whose fate seems so powerfully intertwined with her own. Will claims to want the vengeance, but one wonders if there’s not a bit of that longing in him as well. These two men have a very complex relationship, after all.

Eight months later, Will and Abigail arrive at the church in Italy where Hannibal left his ghastly, heart-shaped piece of corpse-sculpted art and Will makes the acquaintance of Inspector Rinaldo Pazzi (Fortunato Cerlino), who knows of Will’s former incarceration and wonders, somewhat rhetorically, if our hero’s arrival in Italy and the appearance of the mutilated body are perhaps not a coincidence. However, it soon emerges that Pazzi is well aware of Hannibal Lecter, as he once pursued the good doctor some twenty years earlier, back when Hannibal was committing atrocities that branded him with the moniker “The Monster of Florence.” Pazzi wants to apprehend Lecter for reasons far more straightforward than Will’s, ignoring in the process Will’s unambiguously certain warning that Pazzi will not survive the eventual encounter.

Pazzi, a character in the book and film Hannibal, represents perhaps the most marked change any character from the Thomas Harris universe has yet received on this show. The previous incarnation of Pazzi not only had no preexisting experience with Hannibal Lecter, but was a sneaky opportunist who saw the off-the-books apprehension of Lecter as the path to a handsome reward and the means of keeping his attractive young wife happy. This Pazzi, thus far, seems far more dedicated and noble than his predecessor (though he will almost certainly meet a similarly grisly fate). While the show has made cosmetic changes to certain characters, such as making Freddie Lounds into a woman, this is the first instance of the show reimagining a character from the Lecter canon so completely that they bear little resemblance to the person they were before.

There is briefly the question of how Abigail Hobbs could have survived her second throat-slashing of the series, leaving the fatality total for that season-ending bloodbath at, most probably, an unlikely zero. But Hannibal is a show where characters tend to walk off any act of violence that doesn’t land them in Lecter’s stomach, so it’s easy to look the other way when Abigail turns up unexpectedly alive. However, that just queues us up for the episode’s big fake-out, when it is revealed that Abigail did not, in fact, survive her last encounter with Hannibal, and that Will is only keeping her alive in what Lecter has referred to as the “memory palace,” the vast and intricate mindscape existing only in the heads of those with vivid enough imaginations. And although Abigail has never really resonated as a character in the series as much as I suspect the writers have intended her to (she’s essentially little more than an emblem of innocence that Will carries with him for purposes of self-flagellation), her death does have impact through Will, who internalizes her memory for a modicum of relief from all the tormented emotions with which he is forced to contend.

“Primavera” is a terrific showcase for the underrated Hugh Dancy, who doesn’t get nearly enough credit for the fantastic work he does on this series. Mads Mikkelsen tends to suck up all the oxygen on this show, but Dancy’s mixture of rage, resigned sadness and undefined longing – sometimes all of which is on display in a single scene – is mesmerizing. Will could easily come across as little more than the bland lead of some CBS procedural in the hands of a lesser actor, but Dancy sells every inch of this complicated, haunted character. He’s the true MVP of this show and he rarely gets the proper acknowledgement for just how much he brings to it.

Still, Hannibal could tend to pick up the pace a bit. The languid tone of “Primavera,” even more so than the similar leisurely “Antipasto,” does start to feel a bit like inertia at times, even with Will and Hannibal occupying the same space far sooner than expected. Presumably we’ll get caught up with Jack and Alana next week, to see how they’re doing after shaking off their own mortal wounds, but the manhunt for Lecter hopefully will move forward in full force soon before the onset of any real doldrums. Yet even when Hannibal is running a bit sluggish, it’s still the greatest source of disturbing imagery anywhere on television. When Will has his latest phantasmagoric glimpse of the Stag Man (his demonic, antlered vision of Lecter) emerging from the heart display into something sickeningly anthropomorphic yet utterly inhuman, it’s another one of those moments where you can’t believe you’re seeing something this insane anywhere on television, much less on NBC. This is Hannibal’s design. May it never change.

In the summer of 1968, television news changed forever. Dead last in the ratings, ABC hired two towering public intellectuals to debate each other during the Democratic and Republican national conventions. William F. Buckley Jr. was a leading light of the new conservative movement. A Democrat and cousin to Jackie Onassis, Gore Vidal was a leftist novelist and polemicist. Armed with deep-seated distrust and enmity, Vidal and Buckley believed each other’s political ideologies were dangerous for America. Like rounds in a heavyweight battle, they pummeled out policy and personal insult—their explosive exchanges devolving into vitriolic name-calling. Live and unscripted, they kept viewers riveted. Ratings for ABC News skyrocketed. And a new era in public discourse was born.

Magnolia Pictures will release BEST OF ENEMIES in theaters on July 31, 2015.

Fall 2015 Television Preview: NBC

We conclude our Fall television preview series by focusing on NBC's offerings.

Story by Sue Lukenbaugh

NBC had a huge turn over. They canceled five new comedies - Marry Me, About a Boy, One Big Happy, A to Z and Bad Judge - and axed three dramas (State of Affairs, Constantine and Allegiance. They added fourteen new series, including six comedies, seven dramas and one variety show, but only six will begin with the traditional September start.

Best Time Ever – TUESDAYS 10|9c THIS FALL
Plot: Five-time Emmy Award winner Neil Patrick Harris is coming to NBC on a new primetime variety series based on the U.K.'s hugely popular "Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway." The show will feature comedy sketches, musical numbers, mini game shows, hidden camera pranks on celebrities and appearances by A-list stars.

My Verdict: This sounds like the variety show that I wanted to see from the Muppets, but it looks like a typical gameshow. It's a short run (just until November), and a late time slot, which could bode well for the high energy variety show.

Blindspot – MONDAYS 10|9c THIS FALL
Plot: A vast international plot explodes when a beautiful Jane Doe is discovered naked in Times Square, completely covered in mysterious, intricate tattoos with no memory of who she is or how she got there. But there's one tattoo that is impossible to miss: the name of FBI agent Kurt Weller, emblazoned across her back. "Jane," Agent Weller and the rest of the FBI quickly realize that each mark on her body is a crime to solve, leading them closer to the truth about her identity and the mysteries to be revealed.

My Verdict: Season 1 will be a wild ride, but after the mysteries of her tattoos are solved will be the real test of the series. The cast is lead by Jaimie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton, and the action looks slick. That explosion though could have looked better, but it wasn't the worst from a pilot.

Heartbreaker – TUESDAYS 9|8c THIS FALL
Plot: Based on the real life and achievements of Dr. Kathy Magliato, this unique character-driven medical drama follows Dr. Alex Panttiere (Melissa George, "The Slap"), an outspoken, world-renowned heart transplant surgeon, one of the few women in her field. Stubborn and fearless, Alex always operates on her own terms. She revels in a racy personal life that's a full-time job in itself, manages the daily demands of skeptical faculty and dutiful interns, and pushes the boundaries of medical science to impressive new heights.

My Verdict: It has the feel of early, Grey's Anatomy, lead by an overly cocky surgeon. There's a lot to like in the preview trailer, but its not the most interesting medical drama coming this fall.

Heroes: Reborn – THURSDAYS 8|7c THIS FALL
Plot: The saga behind the 2006 breakout series "Heroes" will continue this fall as creator Tim Kring returns to the fold and develops new layers to his original superhero concept. This highly anticipated 13-episode event series will reconnect with the basic elements of the show’s first season, where ordinary people were waking up to the fact that they had extraordinary abilities.

My Verdict: A lot of the original cast is back. There's no preview for it yet though. The first season of Heroes was great, as the series went on, the storytelling suffered. If they can get back that creative spirit from the beginning of the series, this mini-series will be a great success.

People Are Talking – FRIDAYS 830|730c THIS FALL
Plot: If you can think it, they will say it. From the producer of "Ride Along" and the director of "How I Met Your Mother" comes this unabashed new comedy about two diverse couples, who are both neighbors and best friends. As they go through life side by side, they can't help but analyze and obsess about EVERYTHING. From topics like sex and race, to the fact that the trusted new babysitter might just be a porn star, nothing is out of bounds for this wildly outspoken foursome.

My Verdict: It's not nearly as funny as it should be. Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Tone Bell are plenty likable, but likability isn't enough.

The Player – THURSDAYS 10|9c THIS FALL

Plot: An action-packed Las Vegas thriller about a former military operative turned security expert who is drawn into a high-stakes game where an organization of wealthy individuals gamble on his ability to stop some of the biggest crimes imaginable from playing out. Can he take them down from the inside and get revenge for the death of his wife, or is it true what they say: the House always wins.

My Verdict: It looks more like a B action movie than a TV show. It could be decent if the over acting and the camp is reigned in and fast.

Chicago Med – TBD
Plot: Executive producer Dick Wolf delivers the newest installment of the compelling Chicago franchise, an emotional ride through the day-to-day chaos of the city's most explosive hospital and the courageous team of doctors that holds it together. They will tackle unique new cases inspired by topical events, forging fiery relationships in the pulse-pounding pandemonium of the emergency room, and through it all, familiar faces from the Chicago Police and Fire departments will intertwine as this third team of Chicago heroes hits the ground running.

My Verdict: Wait and see. There's no trailer out yet. The cast includes Oliver Platt, Laurie Holden, and Yaya DaCosta. It's a spinnoff of Chicago Fire, which is a huge hit. It'll definitely be around for awhile though as NBC loves Dick Wolf. Some of the cast was introduced during the Chicago Fire episode where a grenade was exploded in the hospital.

Coach – TBD
Plot: Craig T. Nelson reprises the iconic role that earned him an Emmy in this follow-up to the beloved series that ran for nine unforgettable seasons. With original creator Barry Kemp at the helm, our story picks up 18 years later, when the retired coach gets back in the game to assist his son, who was just hired as head coach at an Ivy League university in Pennsylvania... where they know nothing about sports. Between dealing with the eggheads on campus and his hostile daughter-in-law at home, Coach will soon learn that he's not in Minnesota anymore. Talk about a Hail Mary!

My Verdict: I wasn't a Coach during its first run, I've probably only seen the show as reruns late at night when there's nothing else on. I don't think there has ever been a time I was like I wish that Coach was back on the air, but I'm sure that there was someone out there who said that. Right? There's no trailer out yet, but Craig T. Nelson is back, so that's something.

Crowded – TBD
Plot: No more sex, booze and paying the bills naked. After 20 years of parenting, empty nesters Mike (Patrick Warburton, "Seinfeld") and Martina (Carrie Preston, "True Blood") are finally reclaiming their wild side. But when both of their two grown daughters unexpectedly move back in and Mike's parents scratch their plans to spend their golden years in Florida, their roost is full again. From Executive Producer Sean Hayes, this new (and very timely) family comedy proves that life is crazy with a full house, especially the second time around.

My Verdict: Wait and see. There's no trailer out yet. The cast includes Miranda Cosgrove.

Emerald City – TBD
Plot: In the blink of a tornado's eye, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale and her K9 police dog are transported to another world, one far removed from our own - a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you've never seen before, where wicked witches don't stay dead for long and a young girl becomes a headstrong warrior who holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands.

My Verdict: Wait and see. There's no trailer out yet, and no cast attached. This one was in development last season, and ultimately didn't make the cut, but I'm glad to see that it's back in the mix.

First Dates – TBD
Plot: Everyone can relate to the experience of a first date: the promise of potential love when it goes well and the hilariously awkward moments if it crashes and burns. From Executive Producer Ellen DeGeneres and based on the hit U.K. format, this new series offers a voyeuristic look at a variety of real first dates happening throughout one night at the same restaurant. The audience will be along for the ride in a refreshingly authentic viewing experience that plays like a real-life romantic comedy. At the end of each episode, we will find out if the participants want to see each other again for a second date or if they will go back to the drawing board.

My Verdict: There's no trailer out yet, but its yet another dose of reality TV. Don't we have enough reality TV yet?

Game of Silence – TBD
Plot: Carol Mendelsohn, executive producer and architect of the CSI phenomenon, presents a gripping new drama about a successful Atlanta attorney (David Lyons, "Revolution") whose long-lost childhood friends unexpectedly reappear after 25 years. When a dark secret they thought they'd buried resurfaces, the brotherhood bands together to right the wrongs of their shared past - a journey that will push the limits of their loyalty and quench their thirst for revenge.

My Verdict: Wait and see. There's no trailer out yet. The cast includes David Lions and Michael Raymond-James.

Hot & Bothered – TBD
Plot: If you think the steamy sex, sensational scandals and heart wrenching heartbreak on Latino soap operas are a little extreme, just wait until you see what happens behind the scenes! Eva Longoria stars in this new comedy about Ana Sofia, a sizzling TV superstar, and her lively family of cast and crew all competing to steal the spotlight. When the cameras turn off, the drama turns up as Ana battles pesky network execs, drunken scriptwriters, narcissistic co-stars and an unfortunately familiar new on-screen love interest.

My Verdict: Wait and see. There's no trailer out yet. The cast includes Eva Longoria, Jencarlos Canela and Diana Maria Riva.

Shades of Blue – TBD
Plot: In a steamy new drama, the iconic Jennifer Lopez stars as sexy New York detective and single mother Harlee Santos, who fell in with a tight-knit group of dirty cops, taking bribes and protection money that she uses to provide the best life for her honest, talented daughter. But when she's trapped by the FBI and forced to inform on her own "brothers," she'll have to walk the fine line between love, loyalty, honor and betrayal, and try to keep it together for her daughter's future.

My Verdict: Wait and see. There's no trailer out yet. The cast includes Jennifer Lopez, Ray Liotta, Drea de Matteo, Vincent Laresca and Warren Kole.

Superstore – TBD
Plot: America Ferrera ("Ugly Betty") and Ben Feldman ("Mad Men," "A to Z") star in a hilarious workplace comedy (from the producer of "The Office") about a unique family of employees at a super-sized mega store. From the bright-eyed newbies and the seen-it-all veterans to the clueless summer hires and the in-it-for-life managers, together they hilariously tackle the day-to-day grind of rabid bargain hunters, riot-causing sales and nap-worthy training sessions.

My Verdict: Wait and see. There's no trailer out yet.

You, Me and the End of the World – TBD
Plot: In this bold, adrenaline-fueled new comedy drama, the news that a comet is on an unavoidable collision course with Earth sets in motion the most hilariously unexpected chain of events imaginable. Set against the backdrop of apocalyptic chaos, the story follows an eclectic group of seemingly unconnected characters around the world as their lives start to intersect in the most unexpected ways. And when we say "eclectic," we mean a rebellious priest, an unhinged white supremacist, a mild-mannered bank manager, a germophobic cyber terrorist and an American five-star general. Some of these misfits are destined to make it to a bunker deep beneath the English suburb of Slough, and as a result will become the hugely unlikely (and totally unsuitable) future of mankind. Wouldn't that be a disaster!

My Verdict: Wait and see. There's no trailer out yet. The cast includes Rob Lowe, Jenna Fischer, and Megan Mullally.

Of the six shows with September start dates for NBC I'll be watching Blindspot. I'll wait until the previews come out for the rest, but Emerald City sounds most interesting, and if it actually makes it to the schedule this season it'll be on my to watch list.

In case you missed them, we've included all of our preview articles below. Check them out and let us know which shows you're most looking forward to watching...or not!

Fall 2015 Television Preview: Fox

We continue our look at the upcoming Fall television season by focusing on Fox's offerings.

Story by Sue Lukenbaugh

Fox did a fair amount of chopping as well, taking out 13 shows. It canceled long running shows American Idol, The Following, Kitchen Nightmares, Glee, The X Factor, and The Mindy Project, though Mindy did get saved by a Hulu pick-up. Also getting the ax were Backstrom, Gang Related, Gracepoint, Mulaney, Red Band Society, Utopia and Weird Loners.

The upcoming season has some real gems, let's just hope that FOX actually keeps a few around.

Bordertown – Release Date TBD
Plot: A new animated comedy about two families living in a Southwest desert town on the U.S. - Mexico border. It takes a satirical look at the cultural shifts occurring in America, where the U.S. Census forecasts that by 2017, ethnic minorities will become the majority. Set against this increasingly diverse backdrop, the series explores family, politics and everything in between with a cross-cultural wink.

My Verdict: It's extremely offensive, and only semi funny, but coming from Family Guy's Mark Hentemann and Seth MacFarlane it'll be on FOX far longer than it should be.

The Frankenstein Code – Release Date TBD
Plot: A modern re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic, about a man brought back to life by two scientists playing god. Seventy-five-year-old JIMMY PRITCHARD is a shell of his former self. A drinker, a womanizer and a father who always put work before family, Pritchard was forced to resign as L.A. County Sheriff for corrupt conduct more than a decade ago. He is killed when he stumbles upon a robbery at his son's home. But death is surprisingly short for Jimmy, who is brought back to life by billionaire tech-genius twins MARY GOODWIN and her brother, OTTO, founders of the social networking empire, Lookinglass. Resurrected as a younger version of himself, with physical abilities of which he never dreamed, a re-animated Pritchard is given a second chance at life.

My Verdict: It looks really good, but that's where the concern also lies. FOX is really good about bringing shows in with great special effects, but it also likes to cancel these high cost shows. The addition of Rob Kazinsky pretty much guarantees that I'll be tuning in.

Grandfathered – 8|7c THIS FALL
Plot: When you’re so skilled at bachelorhood that it’s on autopilot, what’s the fastest way to bring your cruise-controlled lifestyle to a crashing halt? Television icon John Stamos (“Full House,” “ER”) stars in a new comedy about the ultimate bachelor who discovers he’s not only a father, but a grandfather. Successful restaurateur and man-about-town JIMMY MARTINO (Stamos) is used to being the most suave, most handsome and most single person in the room. All that changes with the surprise appearance of Jimmy’s adult son, GERALD (Josh Peck, THE MINDY PROJECT), and his baby daughter, EDIE. Now Jimmy has to unlearn a lifetime of blissful selfishness and grapple with the fact that he went straight from single to grandfather in six seconds flat.

My Verdict: John Stamos isn't as cool or slick as his character should be. I can't for one moment even remotely feel like he's a ladies man, in fact I completely feel like he's playing for the other team. All in all, while there are a few laughs, and even some touching moments, Stamos is probably better off focusing on the Full House Spin-off coming soon.

The Grinder – 830|730c THIS FALL
The Plot: How many TV lawyers does it take to try a real-life case in a real-life courtroom? One, and his name is THE GRINDER. THE GRINDER is a new comedy about a famous TV lawyer at a crossroads. When his legal series ends, he decides to move back home and join his family’s real law firm – despite having no formal education, no bar certification, no license to practice and no experience in an actual courtroom.

My Verdict: Rob Lowe and Ben Savage make a great pair. As far as comedies go, it's in a similar category as New Girl, and it'll feel right at home on FOX.

The Guide to Surviving Life – TBD
Plot: Wouldn’t it be great to have a friend who has made all the mistakes in life there are to make, and then tells you exactly where he went wrong, so you don’t have to? THE GUIDE TO SURVIVING LIFE is a new comedy that explores what we all go through on our way to figuring out what life is all about. Cooper still doesn’t have the job he wants; he’s accidentally fallen in love with his across-the-hall neighbor, Kelly; one of his roommates, Neal, just can’t seem to dump his bodybuilder girlfriend; his other roommate, Barry, is a “loveable jackass” who can’t stop getting into trouble; and his 40-year-old-brother, Josh, a married father of two, is constantly popping in to come hang with the fellas.

My Verdict: It like Old School and the Hangover had a baby that was slightly brain damaged and isn't really all that funny. This should be pure hilarity, its barely laughable.

Lucifer – Release Date TBD
Plot: The Devil has come to Los Angeles... Based upon the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, LUCIFER is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, Lucifer is enjoying his retirement, indulging in a few of his favorite things when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of Lux. For the first time in roughly 10 billion years, he feels something awaken deep within him as a result of this murder. The murder attracts the attention of LAPD homicide detective CHLOE DANCER, who is immune to his charm, but intrigued by his talent for drawing out people’s secrets and his desire to dispense justice, doling out punishment to those who deserve it.

My Verdict: Lucifer is a slick show with plenty of material to draw from. It likely has a high price tag, but it also already has a fan base. It's another DC addition to TV, and a very interesting one with a charismatic lead. The name and material may be a turn-off to some, but for those who actually tune in will find a lot to love.

Minority Report – MONDAYS 9|10C THIS FALL
Plot: The future is coming. Based on the international blockbuster film by executive producer Steven Spielberg and the first of his films to be adapted for television, MINORITY REPORT follows the unlikely partnership between a man haunted by the future and a cop haunted by her past, as they race to stop the worst crimes of the year 2065 before they happen. Set in Washington, D.C., it is 10 years after the demise of Precrime, a law enforcement agency tasked with identifying and eliminating criminals...before their crimes were committed. To carry out this brand of justice, the agency used three precogs – “precognitives” Dash, Arthur and Agatha – who were able to see the future. Now, in 2065, crime-solving is different, and justice leans more on sophisticated and trusted technology than on the instincts of the precogs.

My Verdict: It feels a little too Sleepy Hollow with the fish out of water precog trying to help the kick ass female officer solve crime, minus the chemistry between the leads.

Rosewood - Release Date TBD
Plot: ROSEWOOD is the story of DR. BEAUMONT ROSEWOOD, JR., the most brilliant private pathologist in Miami. Using his wildly sophisticated autopsy lab, he performs for-hire autopsies to uncover clues that the Miami PD can’t see. His new partner-in-crime is Detective VILLA, a Miami PD detective with attitude and demons to spare. While she’s impressed by Rosewood’s incredible abilities, his constant optimism is more annoying than it is infectious. But somehow, week-to-week, this unlikely tag team will solve many crimes together.

My Verdict: Another Doctor/Detective team-up. It's faster paced than Forever was without the eternity shtick. The show certainly has potential.

Scream Queens – TUESDAYS 9|8c THIS FALL
Plot: The girls of Kappa House are dying for new pledges. SCREAM QUEENS is a new killer comedy-horror series. Wallace University is rocked by a string of murders. Kappa House, the most sought-after sorority for pledges, is ruled with an iron fist (in a pink glove) by its Queen Bitch, CHANEL OBERLIN. But when anti-Kappa DEAN MUNSCH decrees that sorority pledging must be open to all students, and not just the school’s silver-spooned elite, all hell is about to break loose, as a devil-clad killer begins wreaking havoc, claiming one victim, one episode at a time. Part black comedy, part slasher flick, SCREAM QUEENS is a modern take on the classic whodunit, in which every character has a motive for murder...or could easily be the next blood-soaked casualty.

My Verdict: Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan the guys behind Glee and American Horror Story are bringing this one, and it looks like so much win. Not only does it have a stellar cast, and some equally stellar guest stars, it's a much better looking looking trailer than MTV's Scream was.

X-File Event Series – Rlease Date TBD
Plot: Thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES will be a thrilling, six-episode event series helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history. FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny), as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena. Mitch Pileggi also stars. Chris Carter serves as creator and executive producer. Glen Morgan also is an executive producer. The X-Files is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Ten Thirteen Productions.

My Verdict: There's no trailer, and while they're getting the gang all back together both in front of and behind the camera, it can still go either way. I vaguely remember that there was a second X-files movie, but I remember that it was horrible. I'm hoping that it goes more of the 24 route, and brings back what we loved about the show in its early years. With all the flashy choices over on Fox only The Frankenstein Code, Lucifer and Scream Queens make it to my viewing schedule.

Friday ends our preview with NBC!

Pitch Perfect 3 On It's Way

THR is reporting there will be more, dear pitches, but it won't be cheap. With Pitch Perfect 2's massive $160.9 million in domestic box office (and counting), Universal and Gold Circle are moving ahead on a third installment.

Sources say negotiations have begun with Kay Cannon, who wrote the first two movies, to return for a third. It remains to be seen whether co-star Elizabeth Banks, a steward of the franchise as one of its producers, will return to the director's chair.

How a story would reunite the core Barden Bellas now that (spoiler alert) most have graduated college will be easier than making deals for such stars as Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, who sources say were paid about $2 million each for Pitch 2, which cost $29 million to make. That's a step up from their fees for the original 2012 film, which were in the low-six figures for Kendrick and less than $100,000 for Wilson, whose Fat Amy became the breakout.

Deals for a third movie will be costly because options aren't in place for the pair. In contrast, say sources, Universal and Gold Circle were smelling a franchise when they made sure to lock in series newcomer Hailee Steinfeld for a follow-up.

#TheProgram Trailer. Lance Armstrong Movie

The race to get a film about the cheating, drug-enhanced winning ways of cyclist Lance Armstrong has been hotly contested, but it appears Stephen Frears has pulled ahead of the pack, with The Program arriving this year.

Adapted from sports journalist David Walsh’s book Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit Of Lance Armstrong, the film will follow the cyclist’s meteoric rise, battles with cancer and equally fast fall once it was proved that he had been using performance enhancing drugs during his successful years.

Watch the trailer after the Jump...

Frears has Chris O’Dowd playing Walsh, with Ben Foster as Armstrong. From the looks of this, it’s a dramatic re-telling of Armstrong’s Tour de France years and then what happened when the truth came out, and the rabbit hole proved to be far deeper than anyone suspected.

With Lee Pace, Jesse Plemons, Guillaume Canet, Dustin Hoffman and Bryan Greenberg also in the cast.

Win Tickets To An Advance Screening For #THEOVERNIGHT In San Francisco

Win Tickets To An Advance Screening For THE OVERNIGHT on June 17 at 7:00 PM in San Francisco.

Alex, Emily, and their son, RJ, have recently moved to Los Angeles’ Eastside from Seattle. Feeling lost in a new city, they are desperate to find their first new friends. After a chance meeting with Kurt at the neighborhood park, they gladly agree to join family pizza night at the home. But as it gets later and the kids go to bed, the family “playdate” becomes increasingly more revealing and bizarre as the couples begin to open up.

Writer/director Patrick Brice’s second feature is a painfully funny take on thirty^ something sexual frustration and parenthood. Featuring memorable lead performances by Taylor Schilling, Adam Scott, Jason Schwartzman, and Judith Godrèche, each actor nimbly balances the script’s sudden emotional turns from surprising honesty to complete embarrassment. Produced by Gettin' Rad and the Duplass Brothers, THE OVERNIGHT tells a complex story of universal inadequacies.
