Should The Terminator Franchise Be Terminated?

Soft returns for the movie and release dates set for two sequels confound Paramount and Skydance as "bubble" movies — not flops, not quite megahits — require tough decisions: "Sometimes you are left scratching your head." In September 2014, David Ellison's Skydance Productions and Paramount boldly dated the next two installments in the rebooted Terminator franchise for 2017 and 2018, even though the first film in the planned trilogy,  Terminator: Genisys , was 10 months from opening. But now Genisys , which cost $155 million to produce and tens of millions more to market, is underperforming at the box office -- it had earned only $80.6 million domestically and nearly $200 million overseas as of July 19 -- underscoring the tough decisions franchise-mad studios face with what might be called "bubble" movies, decent performers whose returns don't trigger an automatic sequel but whose backers aren't quite ready

David, who just produced Jack Reacher, had the relationship with the scribes, though interestingly Kalogridis also is tight with Terminator creator James Cameron. Megan Ellison is in the thick of the Oscar race with Zero Dark Thirty and The Master. Please Leave A Comment- Source- Deadline

Taylor Lautner and Tom Cruise To Star In "Northern Lights"

Taylor Lautner and Tom Cruise To Star In "Northern Lights" In his next film, Northern Lights, he will star right along side Tom Cruise. It's called Northern Lights, to be directed by John Moore (Max Payne) with a start date of April 1st. The logline says the pic is "set against the backdrop of extreme flying and follows four young pilots as they compete against the world’s best". It's being made by David Ellison's new company Skydance Productions, and Paramount has a first look at his development. So the question is whether Paramount, which is in the Taylor Lautner business in a big way with the recently announced Max Steel, will pony up an even huger salary for the teen who'll be starring as the title lead in their own upcoming blockbuster.
