The Bourne Legacy First Image. Whatcha Looking At?

USAToday got their hands on the first image from the upcoming film The Bourne Legacy .

With Tony Gilroy still busy getting film in the can, the first image of franchise spin-off The Bourne Legacy has hit the web. Check out the massively exciting blend of explosions, sexy weapons and a scowling Jeremy Renner.

Okay, okay… So the picture’s not that revealing. And it doesn’t have any weapons or explosions. The serious-looking Renner’s present and correct, though, even if he does look much as he did in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. In fact, we’re still wondering if Universal simply cut and pasted him from one of that film’s publicity stills and put him up against a new background. Then again, this film also sees him as a kick-ass international agent.

Legacy finds Renner as Aaron Cross, another CIA-trained operative from a programme even more nefarious than Bourne’s Treadstone. Though Gilroy and co have been careful to keep most of the plot elements obscured for now, the leading man did drop mention that it’ll feature the same sort of ticking-clock action on an even bigger scale.

With Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz, Joan Allen, Edward Finney and Scott Glenn also all in the cast, The Bourne Legacy will be out on August 17.

Maleficent Has Found It's Director

Disney has tapped Robert Stromberg to make his feature directorial debut on Maleficent, the Linda Woolverton-scripted revisionist take on the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale that is being constructed as a star vehicle for Angelina Jolie to play the villainess. While Stromberg is new to the director’s chair, he is no stranger to dealing with big-ticket spectacle films. He has been production designer on Avatar and Alice In Wonderland, and Disney’s upcoming Oz The Great And Powerful. He also worked on visual effects for such films as 2012, Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End and Master And Commander. Joe Roth is producing.

This gives Disney feature heads Sean Bailey and Rich Ross another tentpole feature to complement the Marvel product, with A-list talent. Maleficent stacks up alongside Oz The Great And Powerful, and the Johnny Depp-starrer The Lone Ranger.

Joel Edgerton & Mark Strong Join Bigelow's Bin Laden Film

While the Republicans keep kicking Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal’s Bin Laden movie around like a political football, Annapurna Pictures and Sony Pictures are ready to get the mission underway. I’m told that Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong and Edgar Ramirez are circling to join the previously discussed ensemble cast of Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton and Chris Pratt.

The drama portrays Navy SEAL Team 6′s long hunt for the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. Osama Bin Laden was finally killed in a covert mission last year. Reports today assert that the Pentagon will investigate charges made by Rep Peter King that Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker tandem Bigelow and Boal somehow got inside information about the mission from the Obama Administration in preparing the script. This saber rattling hasn’t affected the film’s progress: the script is now finished and the film is going forward. Sony Pictures has dated the film for release on December 19, deliberately steering clear of the Presidential Elections.

The prospect of Chastain joining the Bin Laden film has cast doubt on whether she will star alongside Tom Cruise in Universal’s Oblivion, which shoots in March. They apparently are trying to work out dates, but two informed sources tell me it looks dicey at the moment that she’ll do Oblivion. Chastain, who today was announced as star of a revival of The Heiress on Broadway, last year starred in Tree of Life, The Help, Take Shelter and The Debt. Strong just starred in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and the upcoming John Carter while Ramirez starred in Carlos and The Bourne Ultimatum and next stars in Wrath of the Titans.

Emma Stone Rides A Little White Corvette

In a deal worth $1 million upfront, GK Films has acquired Little White Corvette, the Michael Diliberti script that has  Emma Stone attached to star. Stone, who most recently completed The Amazing Spider-Man and who’s got some Oscar buzz for her performance in The Help, had an open slot that had several studios buzzing. Shooting on this one will begin in late summer and Scott Aversano will produce with GK’s Graham King and Tim Headington. Diliberti wrote the story with David Branson Smith. Stone and Diliberti will be exec producers.

Stone had been interested in the script since last summer. It’s a two-hander about a nerdy guy and his wild older sister who travel to Miami to try and sell a million-dollar stash of ’70s cocaine they found in the trunk of their late father’s car.

It’s the third recent sale for Diliberti, who sold the pitch The Big Sayonara to Fox as a potential directing vehicle for John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, and an untitled pitch that Warner Bros bought for Todd Phillips to produce.

A Look Inside The Documentary "Small Market, Big Heart" And How To Get Tickets To The Premiere

An amazing new documentary will be having it's premiere on January 9, 2012 at 7 pm at the Crest Theater. “Small Market, Big Heart” is the name of the documentary. A long time Sacramento Kings fan and a local boy who has followed and loved the Kings since I moved here in 1991. I am proud to share this information with you.

The story will show you the pride and loyalty this team has for the Sacramento Kings. The documentary shows you highlights of the team over the past 26 years and the day we almost lost the team. But with the famous movement that was started to keep the Kings here at-least one more year called “Here We Stay”

The film was directed by local filmmaker Tobin Halsey and produced by James Ham and Blake Ellington. Although the film was made on a budget of less then $10,000, the group received an amazing amount of help from local professionals, as this is truly a grassroots, community-based project.

Here is information on how to get tickets to the event-

This story has many heroes, but one common theme – a community with a huge heart. As a small market, Sacramento has faced enormous adversity, first in landing an NBA franchise and then maintaining that franchise through both good and bad economic times. The one constant has always been incredible community support, as the Kings have sold out all of their games in 19 of 26 seasons in Sacramento.

Over the last year, faced with the possibility of losing their team, grassroots movements fought to engage political leaders to fight for Sacramento’s one and only professional franchise. The outcome was nothing short of a miracle, as the combined efforts of many, led to an NBA first — a one year extension for a city to get a new entertainment and sports complex built.

This film will illustrate Sacramento’s struggle to remain relevant in the high-stakes game of professional sports. The story is told through the eyes of long-term members of media, former and current members of the Sacramento Kings franchise, local politicians and lastly, the common members of the Sacramento community that stood tall in the face of adversity.

The fight is not over. The NBA has given Sacramento until March 1 to get a financing mechanism in place for a new entertainment and sports complex. If that doesn’t happen, the city may lose its most recognizable community asset. Our goal is to release this film in December of 2011 while the story is still unfolding, and then revisit the ending when a final outcome is decided. During these crucial times, it is important for the community to have knowledge of the unique history of the Sacramento Kings and how important it is for the franchise to stay in the River City.

This film will set the scene for what is to be the future of our region.

Akira Film Put On Hold Again

Warner Bros is pushing the pause button on Akira.

The project, which has been through several incarnations, is being shut down in the face of casting and budgetary issues. The production offices in Vancouver are being closed, with below-the-line talent and crew told to stop working. “Everybody is being sent home,” according to an insider.

Producers, who include Appian Way’s Jennifer Kiloran Davisson and Mad Chance’s Andrew Lazar, will hunker down with director Jaume Collet-Serra for the next two weeks to iron out the script. It is unclear if Harry Potter scribe Steve Kloves, who did a pricey rewrite on the project a year ago, will be brought in to help out.

If the issues cannot be resolved, the project could end up being shelved entirely, say insiders.

Collet-Serra already had halved the budget from the incarnation that Albert Hughes was going to direct. He now is working on a budget in the $90 million range. But with only Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) signed on to star, and Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe and Helena Bonham Carter in various stages of dealmaking, the studio feels that the price tag is still too high for a sci-fi project with that level of star wattage. The goal, say insiders, is to bring the budget down to between $60 million and $70 million.

An adaptation of the classic Japanese manga, Akira is an Americanized story set in a postapocalyptic New Manhattan, where a motorcycle gang leader (Hedlund) must stop his brother and fellow gang member from abusing his newly acquired telekinetic powers.

Akira already has “died” three times only to rise phoenix-like from the ashes. Ruairi Robinson and Hughes were previously deep into the project as directors before dropping off. Collet-Serra got the project green-lighted and has come the closest to going before cameras.

This isn't the only Warner Bros. project whose budget is being scrutinized. Arthur and Lancelot, the period fantasy being directed by David Dobkin, also has come under increased budget pressure.

Sources close to the project say Akira isn't dead yet. “It’s a very resilient movie,” says one insider. “Warner Bros. just won’t let it die.”

Horrible Bosses 2 Is Coming

Screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have closed a deal to pen a sequel. Stars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis are expected to return. Let's hope they make a deal for Jennifer Aniston to return.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the screenwriters behind New Line’s surprise workplace comedy hit Horrible Bosses, have closed a deal to pen a sequel.

It is expected that Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis will be back to star in the movie, and the studio is in early talks with helmer Seth Gordon to return to the director’s chair.

Bosses, released July 8, saw Bateman, Day and Sudeikis as harried workers who, in Strangers on a Train meets Nine to Five fashion, try to off each others’ bosses. Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell and Kevin Spacey starred as the employers while Jamie Foxx cameoed as a would-be murder adviser.

The movie, made for about $35 million, proved to be a surprise hit, grossing $117 million domestically and $209 million worldwide.

Daley is an actor-turned-writer who appeared in shows such as Freaks & Geeks, Kitchen Confidential and Bones. Goldstein worked on such TV comedies as The New Adventures of Old Christine and $#*! My Dad Says as a writer-supervising producer.

Bosses was their first teaming and was fruitful; the duo also worked on Burt Wonderstone, New Line’s upcoming comedy starring Steve Carell and Jim Carrey, which will shoot early this year, and a sequel to Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs for Sony Animation.

Is Natalie Portman Heading To Jupiter?

A year ago, Natalie Portman was the hottest actress around. The “Black Swan” star was sweeping awards and earning the sine qua non of actor heat, the "Saturday Night Live" parody. She even survived an ill-timed dorky laugh.

But Portman didn’t get to indulge in the main perk that comes from winning an Oscar — booking a big, prestigious movie. Portman was five months pregnant when she accepted the golden statuette last February, and pretty much stopped working afterward so she and costar/choreographer Benjamin Millipied could have their son, Aleph, who was born in June. She hasn’t worked since. (Portman could be seen in several movies last spring — “Your Highness” and “Thor” — but she shot those before her pregnancy.)

Could Portman soon be coming out of her baby-induced hiatus? According to a person briefed on the project who was not authorized to talk about it publicly, the actress has been courted by Lana and Andy Wachowski to star in “Jupiter Ascending,” the science-fiction movie the filmmakers aim to shoot when they finish cutting their much-anticipated “Cloud Atlas.” Portman, the person said, was seriously weighing taking the part.

Jupiter,” a Warner Bros. project whose plot details have remained tightly under wraps, would reunite Portman with the “Matrix” filmmakers after the two collaborated on the graphic-novel adaptation “V for Vendetta” back in 2006. And “Jupiter” tentatively aims to start production in the fall of 2012, which would give the actress more time with her infant if she wanted it. A representative for Portman did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment.

“Jupiter” wouldn’t be the first science-fiction film Portman has expressed interest in; for a time she was set to star in “Gravity,” Alfonso Cuaron’s space-traveling tale, before dropping out. (Sandra Bullock, who won the lead actress Oscar the year before Portman, wound up with the part.)

In the meantime, Portman also could be getting busy on a more starchy subject on the other side of the camera — she’s keen on making a documentary about veganism based on Jonathan Safran Foer’s book “Eating Animals,” according to items posted Wednesday. She’s also attached to “Thor 2,” but there’s no word on whether Marvel will move forward with the sequel.

Of course, the larger question is whether Portman will be able to regain the heat she had a year ago. Producers and the public often don’t bat an eye at a year at a small maternity leave. But they also have short memories — just ask Julia Roberts, who for a time slipped down the Hollywood food chain when she took time off to raise a family.

Lily Collins Lands Lead In Evil Dead Remake

Ghost House and Mandate Pictures are going BIG with their casting for their forthcoming remake of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead, which begins lensing this March in New Zealand.

Bloody Disgusting has learned exclusively that Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest, Mirror Mirror) is in final negotiations to play "Mia" in FilmDistrict's reboot aiming for release on April 12, 2013.

*Update* Mia is the LEAD, and is (sort of) the female version of Ashley J. Williams (Ash), once donned by Bruce Campbell in the original trilogy. To reveal more would ruin the movie.

In this version, the story centers on five friends (David, Natalie, Eric, Olivia, and Mia) holed up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead with a demonic force unleashed possessing each until only one is left to fight for survival. As we also exclusively reported, there is a drug subplot.

As previously explained, David is a mechanic and is engaged to Natalie. Mia is the friend who is heading to the cabin to detox; Olivia is her best friend/nurse. Eric, presumably, is the kid who unleashes the demons.

After a recent overdose, Mia struggles with her new-found sobriety. She begins acting insane, so it comes as no surprise that nobody believes her crazy claims of coyote dogs and trees attacking her!

Fede Alvarez directs the redo of Sam Raimi's cult classic 1981 The Evil Dead from his own screenplay co-written with Rodo Sayagues. Revisions were done by Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody.

Lucas Opens Up About RED TAILS & Why It Took So Long To Make

Red Tails has been on my radar once it was announced that Lucas was going to produce the movie. Now USA Today sat down with the man genius and asked him about his upcoming film RED TAILS. They get him to open up Why Red Tails took 23 years to make or Why he financed the film himself

The film was directed by Anthony Hemingway, from a script by John Ridley and story by executive producer George Lucas. It is based on the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American combat pilots during World War II, and is the first Lucasfilm Ltd. production since Radioland Murders (1994) not to be associated with the Indiana Jones or Star Wars franchises.

New Trailer & Poster RED TAILS-

Why Red Tails took 23 years to make:

"I wrote the script many years ago, and it turned out just like Star Wars in that it was way too big for one movie. There was the story of how they got trained at Tuskegee (Institute in Alabama), and how Eleanor Roosevelt became their champion. Then there was the battle movie that had piqued my interest initially. And finally the amazing saga of the start of the civil rights movement after the war. So this literally went on for 20 years, trying to get it all into one script, which meant leaving out many things we loved and going mainly with the war story and hinting at the rest."

Why he financed the film himself:
"Everything I do is defensive. I got into a position (to finance projects) right after The Empire Strikes Back (1980). I didn't need to have studios telling me what to do, picking movies for me to make, having me change them and recut them. My first two films (THX 1138 and American Graffiti) were recut, and I said I just don't want that. If I'm going to live or die by my movie, I want to be able to say, 'Yeah, that was a terrible movie, I made a mistake, sorry.' I don't want to have to say I made a great movie but you guys destroyed it."

Read the entire story after the Jump...

How it might affect black filmmakers:
"I realize that by accident I've now put the black film community at risk (with Red Tails, whose $58 million budget far exceeds typical all-black productions). I'm saying, if this doesn't work, there's a good chance you'll stay where you are for quite a while. It'll be harder for you guys to break out of that (lower-budget) mold. But if I can break through with this movie, then hopefully there will be someone else out there saying let's make a prequel and sequel, and soon you have more Tyler Perrys out there."

Sending messages through film:
"You're going to give a message out regardless. You're projecting your point of view and your morality and lessons learned. Those of us in the arts who are given a megaphone have to be especially vigilant. Nowadays in a lot of movies — and I'm not going to condemn the whole movie industry — there is no message. They don't even think about that part. But there should be a point to movies. Sure, you're giving people a diversion from the cold world for a bit, but at the same time you pass on some facts and rules and maybe a little bit of wisdom."

Mythology and movies:
"I've come to the conclusion that mythology is really a form of archaeological psychology. Mythology gives you a sense of what a people believes, what they fear. That's what I did with Star Wars. I took some basic psychological motifs and saw if people could still relate to them today. Oh, you feel this way about your father, and that way about your friends. After its success, I decided I liked the idea of doing films that spoke to and inspired young people, of saying things that needed to be said without being blatant. And that's where Red Tails fits in."

His passion for special effects:
"The reason I've invested so much time and money (creating Industrial Light & Magic, a premier special-effects house) is because art is technology. In the '60s, you were at the end of the (Lawrence of Arabia director) David Lean era, where you'd have 10,000 extras in a scene. That was getting too expensive. The norm became, 'Oh, I have a movie, it's set five years ago, has seven actors in it and we'll shoot on the streets.' So I could tell even then that if we pushed the technology we'd have so many more stories we could tell."

The Girl Who Played With Fire Film Is Going To Happen

According to Sony, the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo sequel, The Girl Who Played With Fire, is still moving forward despite the lingering perception that Dragon Tattoo has underperformed. “[Dragon Tattoo] continues to do strong business and nothing has changed with respect to development of the next book,” a Sony rep tells EW.

In November, Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal told us that The Girl Who Played With Fire was definitely a go, with a targeted late-2013 release date. But Dragon Tattoo, which has grossed $60 million in the U.S. since its release on Dec. 20, is being perceived as something of a box-office disappointment (although moviegoers are enthusiastic — it received an A from audience-survey firm CinemaScore — and it seems to be holding up well over time as it chugs toward the $100 million mark).

Given the film’s merely decent performance, there’s been much speculation about whether Sony will now actually move forward with the sequel. But the Sony rep tells us that “development continues” on the sequel and Steven Zaillian is still working on the script as planned. So far no director has committed to the project (Fincher hasn’t yet decided whether to return), but according to Pascal, stars Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are both already signed up for the other two films.

Last month Mara told EW she’d love to play Lisbeth again. “I don’t feel finished with the character,” she said. “I’m not ready to go back there yet, but I think by the time we start, I will be.”

We Have Your Access To See NBC's SMASH In San Francisco

Premieres February 6, 2012

We have your access to the premiere episode of NBC's SMASH. NBC, DreamWorks Television & Universal Television has provide me with an Exclusive code for the fans to get access to the screening in San Francisco,Ca.

SMASH is an upcoming American musical series set to premiere on NBC, Monday, February 6, 2012

The SMASH screening will take place on January 9, 2012 - 7:30 PM at AMC Metreon 16 with IMAX

There's nothing more exciting than the opening night of a hit Broadway musical, except maybe what happens getting there. While Wicked and The Lion King pack audiences in on the Great White Way, Julia and Tom, a successful songwriting team played by Debra Messing and Christian Borle, begin work on a new musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. When a tenacious producer (Anjelica Houston) jumps aboard, so begins the difficult task of casting the silver screen icon.

Ivy Lynn, a tough Broadway veteran, seems like the obvious choice. But enter Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee), a young girl from Iowa with a dream of making it on Broadway who walks in and blows everyone away. So who will get the part and begin a journey that will change their lives? It's an age-old story, but a star just might be born once again.

While everyone is consumed with putting the show together, real life has a tendency of getting in the way. Julia and her husband are in the middle of a complicated adoption; the producer's husband begins divorce proceedings which could threaten the finances of the show; and the brilliant but womanizing director could derail everything if he puts the young star in a compromising position. This will be a rollercoaster ride that culminates on opening night when the audience gets to determine whether or not the show is a smash!

In the era of The Voice and Glee, executive producers Steven Spielberg and Craig Zadan & Neil Meron (producers of Chicago and Hairspray), and songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray), bring you the blood, sweat, and tears of the making of a Broadway musical.

Debra Messing as Julia Houston, a songwriter/lyricist and the musical's co-writer
Brian D'Arcy James as Frank, Julia's husband
Christian Borle as Tom Levitt, Julia's co-writing partner on the project
Katharine McPhee as Karen Cartwright  an Iowan who lands a successful audition and becomes the favorite for the role of Monroe.
Jack Davenport as Derek Wills, the brilliant (and womanizing) director of the musical, who is hoping for a breakout with the musical even if it means putting the lead in a compromising position.
Megan Hilty as Ivy Lynn, a veteran actress who was favored to land the Monroe lead until Karen came into the picture. She finds herself competing with the newcomer after being told that she was too old to play the part.
Anjelica Huston as Eileen Rand, the musical's tenacious producer, who is dealing with divorce proceedings from her husband, which could threaten the musical
Raza Jaffrey as Dev Sundaram, Karen's live-in boyfriend, who works at the Mayor's office
Jamie Cepero as Ellis Tancharoen, Tom's personal assistant

CONTRABAND is an upcoming American action thriller film directed by Baltasar Korm├íkur, starring Mark Wahlberg, Giovanni Ribisi, Ben Foster, and Kate Beckinsale.

Mark Wahlberg leads the cast of CONTRABAND, a fast-paced thriller about a man trying to stay out of a world he worked so hard to leave behind and the family he’ll do anything to protect. Set in New Orleans, the film explores the cutthroat underground world of international smuggling—full of desperate criminals and corrupt officials, high-stakes and big payoffs—where loyalty rarely exists and death is one wrong turn away.

Chris Farraday (Wahlberg) long ago abandoned his life of crime, but after his brother-in-law, Andy (Caleb Landry Jones), botches a drug deal for his ruthless boss, Tim Briggs (Giovanni Ribisi), Chris is forced back into doing what he does best—running contraband—to settle Andy’s debt. Chris is a legendary smuggler and quickly assembles a crew with the help of his best friend, Sebastian (Ben Foster), to head to Panama and return with millions in counterfeit bills.

CONTRABAND has been rated R (Restricted - Under 17 Requires Accompanying Parent or Adult Guardian) for pervasive language and brief drug use.

Things quickly fall apart and with only hours to reach the cash, Chris must use his rusty skills to successfully navigate a treacherous criminal network of brutal drug lords, cops and hit men before his wife, Kate (Kate Beckinsale), and sons become their target.

Demi Moore Joins The Cast Of "Lovelace"

Now that Howl duo Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman are hard at work shooting Linda Lovelace biopic Lovelace, they’re adding a few faces to the cast, with Demi Moore, Adam Brody and Eric Roberts all signing on.

Lovelace tells the tale of Linda Boreman (Amanda Seyfried) who shot to infamy as the world’s first erotic superstar when she was plucked from obscurity by Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard) to star in Deep Throat. But her life was filled with addiction, abuse and depression and she eventually campaigned against pornography.

Moore is aboard to play Gloria Steinem, the activist who founded Ms Magazine and penned a key article about Lovelace’s unhappy life. Brody is on as Throat co-star Harry Reems, while Roberts will be Nat Laurendi, who carried out a lie detector test on Linda at the request of the publisher when she wrote her memoir Ordeal.

The three newcomers join a cast that already includes Seyfried, Sarsgaard, Sharon Stone, Wes Bentley, Hank Azaria, Bobby Carnavale, Chris Noth, Robert Patrick and, assuming he has the time, James Franco in a cameo as Hugh Hefner.
