Camilla Belle Will Get Freaky Deaky

Movement is beginning again on the long-in-development adaptation of Elmore Leonard‘sFreaky Deaky” with a new actress boarding the project.

The Playlist has learned that Camilla Belle (”10,000 B.C.,” “From Prada to Nada”) is attached to star in the film, with reps for the actress confirming her involvement. Based on Leonard’s 1988 novel, the Detroit-based narrative features a twisty plot involving a bomb-making ex-couple with radical politics who reunite for a score worth millions, while a cop with bomb squad experience tries to take them down. And while the crime-and-police milieu is familiar ground for Leonard, the bomb-making plot adds a twist to the author’s usual terrain.

The project first started picking up steam during TIFF last year when William H. Macy signed to the film, and we presume he’s still involved (reps didn’t return inquiries at press time). A number of names are said to be circling the project at the moment, but two rumored actors—Sam Rockwell and Hayden Christensen—are not part of the cast, reps for both actors confirm to us. Charles Matthau—son of Walter Matthau—was attached to direct the film last fall.

The project has been knocking around Hollywood for a while with Quentin Tarantino producing at one point, Kurt Russell attached at another, and Richard Brooks, Monte Hellman and Jim McBride all sitting in the director’s chair at various stages of the film’s lengthy development.

URSA To Make An Appearance In Superman Reboot

The guys over at Latinoreview have uncovered some interesting news that everyone has been talking about last week.

First let say this Lois Lane will be in the film, and the character these lovely actresses have come out for is none other than a Kryptonian villainess who is going by the name of URSA. Yes that Ursa from Superman and Superman 2 whom was played by British actress Sarah Douglas.

Most recently the powers that be, aka the producers, of Zack Synder's take on Superman released to the trades the names of three actresses who are in contention to play a character who is "undisclosed" for the time being.

Auditioning are British actress Alice Eve, German actress Diane Kruger and British actress Rosamund Pike. The trades also stated that these three are not vying for the part of Lois Lane.

This will lead many to wonder whether or not General Zod will be in the film as URSA, along with Zod, were two thirds of the criminals banished by Jor-El to the Phantom Zone.

Now Zack Synder has gone on record stating that General Zod will not be in the film, stating, “For now, it’s just a rumor.” But directors and screenwriters often make changes before shooting begins.

Wishlist Of Actress Up For The Role Of Lois Lane

Now that Zach Snyder and Christopher Nolan have settled on Henry Cavill for their Man of Steel, the question remains: Who'll play the dazzling urbanite journalist who'll capture his heart? We put together a list of eight potential leading ladies.

The Daily Planet's second-most-famous reporter has been played lots of ways over the years: From the screwball comedy of Margot Kidder in 1978's Superman to the flighty no-way-we're-buying-that-you-won-a-Pulitzer daffiness of Kate Bosworth in 2006's Superman Returns. But Ms. Lane needs to have two qualities: the restless intelligence of a killer newshound and an inner tenacity. Which of today's actresses can fit the bill?

Here are some contenders:

Resume: Black Swan, Self Medicated, Cursed

She is relatively unknown the actress had her big break this year starring Black Swan. I had a chance to talk to her which she did give me a tease about the role. Interview will be up this weekend.

Resume: Never Let Me Go, Public Enemies, Doctor Who

Even though one gets a slightly fragile vibe from Mulligan, just looking at her fine features, she's showed an intense determination—especially as Sally Sparrow in the legendary "Blink" episode of Doctor Who.

Resume: The Social Network, Parks and Recreation, I Love You, Man

She might be primarily known as a comedienne, but on-screen comedy isn't necessarily about being hilarious (though it doesn't hurt). It's about precision and timing—skills that could help bring a Philadelphia Story-style screwball spark.

Resume: Glee, Burlesque, I Am Number Four (upcoming)

She's made the short list for Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Man reboot, so Agron's got her foot in the superheroic door. Her only downside is that she comes off a bit young, maybe too young.

Resume: Angel, Dollhouse, No Ordinary Family

While she might be a little too old to match up with Cavill, Acker's proven that she can swing from timid to steely in the blink of an eye.

Resume: The Wolfman, The Devil Wears Prada, Gulliver's Travels

This statuesque Brit hasn't been well served by her genre outings to date, but she can play a Lois who feels a station or two above the corn-fed Clark Kent.

Resume: Lost, The Hurt Locker, Real Steel (upcoming)

As the romantically waffly Kate, Lilly wasn't always given the best material on Lost, but there was always a strength there. I'd buy Lilly's Lois taking stories by the bollocks and wrestling them to the page.

Resume: Inception, Juno, X-Men: The Last Stand

Page has already passed the Nolan test, doing her best with the dream architect part she had in Inception. It remains to be seen whether she can summon the required brassiness, though.

Nick Fury Will Show Up In Captain America And Thor

We've known for a while that Nick Fury would be popping up in Captain America, and hoped and assumed that he'd be appearing in Thor, too. But we weren't 100 percent sure until we heard Samuel L. Jackson say it himself.

Jackson appeared last night on Jimmy Fallon Live, where he dropped the news:

"In the next month or so, I have to do one day on Thor, and I got to do another day on Captain America, and in April we start The Avengers, the big deal with everybody. ... Thor and Captain America are pretty much done, but I haven't done my part in them yet. I'm just connective tissue for them to join The Avengers."
Jackson also mentioned that on Friday he'd be screen-testing with five actresses, one of whom will get to play "my sidekick who's with me all the time." No word yet on which Marvel Comics character some lucky actress will get to bring to life.

NBC's Wonder Woman Pilot Explained

Pilot season is officially underway and once again it's the franchise updates, spin-offs and genre projects which have drawn the most attention. Case in point: David E. Kelley's "Wonder Woman" pilot for NBC. We've managed to read Kelley's 72-page script and thought we'd offer up a quick FAQ, including some new exclusive details.

As always, there's a lot that could change from this draft of the script and what ultimately airs should it make it to series. Also, this isn't meant as a plot synopsis, just a rundown of various elements at work here.

1. What's the main thrust of the show? Meet Diana Themyscira. By night, Diana fights crime as Wonder Woman, a Los Angeles-based superhero. By day, Diana runs Themyscira Industries, which among other things, sells Wonder Woman-related merchandise to fund her crime-fighting efforts. And since the public knows Diana Themyscira is Wonder Woman, she's recently invented a secret identity, Diana Prince (complete with a Clark Kent-esque disguise involving contact lenses, glasses, pulling her hair back and a housecat named Desi), to allow her a more normal perspective on the world.

2. What does the costume look like? The script only details it as "a colorful spandex suit." It won't be the original, iconic costume though (don't worry, she still keeps it hung in her closet). Despite that look being the company's top seller, Diana insists her current outfit is a tad more appropriate.

3. What about her gadgets? The golden lasso of truth is there, as are her bullet reflecting bracelets. In lieu of an invisible plane (or being able to fly), Diana uses various sedan-sized aircrafts, made by BMW no less ("The Ultimate Air Machine").

Now the real story is who is going to play the Amazon Princess?

Hugh Jackman's Diet For Wolverine 2

As Wolverine, Hugh Jackman's a tall, lean muscle machine. However, in the Marvel comics, Wolverine's really quite a short and stocky (and VERY muscular) guy. So for The Wolverine, director Darren Aronofsky told the Australian actor to really beef it up in order to match the comic-book character's more massive look.

So what's a guy to do? Pack on many, many calories.

That's what Jackman is doing right now to prepare for his role in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine sequel (yes, we know it's not REALLY a sequel but more of a stand-alone film)—packing in a whopping 6,000 calories a day to add more muscles to his tall, 6-foot-2.5-inch, 210-pound (he started at 190) frame.

Jackman admits to finding it rather difficult, saying: "I'm on it right now, mate, already doing it. It's 6,000 calories a day, it's rough."

The actor further explains why he's undertaking this intense diet:

"Darren said with the last one, 'Hey you looked great, but you're so tall that in those long shots you looked kind of like Clint Eastwood, and that's not Wolverine.' He said that Wolverine, in the comics, is powerful, stocky, you know, he's short and thick. So he said, 'I want you to go there, get bigger.'"

Jackman also adds:

"He's thick and it's chunky and it's powerful. I always think of Mike Tyson when he first came on the scene. Sometimes, he was a full foot shorter than his opponents and bent over [with this] massive build. There's real power. You said bulldog, and that's it exactly. Exactly. That's what I'm going for, and if I have a massive heart attack first, well, you tell everyone what I was going for."

We never really thought there was anything wrong with the muscles Jackman was packing in the last film, though, but as long as he's not lost in a complete pile of muscles ... why not?

Kristen Stewart As Snow White?

Kristen Stewart the Twilight star is on the list for the role of Snow White in Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman.

The movie, being directed by Rupert Sanders, is in deep casting mode, with Viggo Mortensen entering negotiations to play the Huntsman earlier Wednesday. Charlize Theron is in negotiations to play the evil queen.

Stewart is a name that Universal has kept coming back to since acquiring the project even as it went through a series of screen tests with actresses such as Riley Keough, Felicity Jones and Alicia Vikander. Emily Browning tested this past weekend (Stewart has reached a point in her career where testing isn't required).

Stewart, arguably one of the biggest stars in the world thanks to the Twilight movies, has focused on indie projects in between the vampire romancers, and this could become her first studio project since becoming a name. It also would put her in the shoes of an iconic character.

The actress is currently shooting the Breaking Dawn movies, but the Snow White team has been making repeated overtures even as late as last week.

Kane & Lynch Update From Jamie Foxx

Finally we have some word on the a video game adaptation of Kane & Lynch. IGN caught up with Jamie Foxx during a promotional event on the Fox lot for his upcoming 3D CG-animated film Rio, during which time the actor gave us a brief status update on his long-gestating game-to-film, Kane & Lynch.

"We're doing a couple of rewrites but we're still doing it. And it should be a lot of fun, a lot of action," vowed Foxx.

Foxx has been attached since last summer to play the psychotic James Lynch to Bruce Willis' "Kane" Marcus in the Lionsgate film, which was supposed to go before cameras last fall only to become indefinitely postponed. But Foxx was adamant that the movie was still happening and that he's still aboard.

As far as we know, there's currently no director attached to Kane & Lynch, which has seen a slew of filmmakers mentioned for it over the past year or so.

Benjamin Walker Cast As Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Benjamin Walker has signed on to star in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Fox’s adaptation of the period vampire novel from Seth Graham-Smith. Timur Bekmambetov is helming the movie, his first since his 2008 hit Wanted, and tells of Lincoln fighting the forces of the undead during the Civil War.

The project is a big coup for the actor, who has been performing on Broadway of late. The actor, has appeared in movies such as Flags of our Fathers and Kinsey.

But he elbowed his way to the front of the line in the screentests that took place earlier this month to nab the lead role of Honest Abe.

And what a role it is: It calls for the actor to play the famed president from the age of 20 to 55, from boyish and lanky to skilled fighter to middle-aged with trademarked beard.

Another role to watch out for is the part of Henry Sturges, who mentors and trains Abe in the ways of vampire hunting. The studio went after Tom Hardy before he took the role of Bane in The Dark Knight Rises but the part is now open.

Cameron Diaz Joins Colin Firth For Gambit

Cameron Diaz is attached to star opposite Colin Firth in the Joel and Ethan Coen-scripted Gambit, a remake of the 1966 British caper starring Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine.

Gambit is one of the first projects financed by Crime Scene Pictures, launched in May by writer/director/producer Adam Ripp and agent-turned-producer Rob Paris.

Glen Basner’s FilmNation will launch Gambit to foreign buyers at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin. FilmNation and Crime Scene announced Diaz’s casting on Tuesday. Firth, a frontrunner for the Oscar for his performance in The King’s Speech, was previously attached to Gambit.

Michael Hoffman (The Last Station) is directing the remake. Mike Lobbell is producing alongside Ripp and Paris.

Hoffman begins shooting in London in May.

Storyline revolves around a London art curator (Firth) who plots an elaborate scheme to con a wealthy collector into buying a fake Monet painting. As part of the ruse, he recruits a Texas steer roper (Diaz) to play the part of a woman whose grandfather liberated the painting at the end of WWII.

Henry Cavill Cast As The Man Of Steel

"Tudors" regular Henry Cavill has been chosen as the next man of steel, playing the dual roles of Superman and his mortal alter-ego Clark Kent in the upcoming Warner/Legendary co-production of "Superman."

The British actor is best known for playing confidante Charles Brandon to Jonathan Rhys Meyers' Henry VIII in Showtime's acclaimed period-drama series "The Tudors," but already seemed poised for a feature-film breakout with a starring role in Summit's upcoming action film "The Cold Light of Day," which also features Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver.

He's also set to star in Relativity's fantasy-drama "Immortals" alongside Mickey Rourke later this year.

Cavill has tried to step into a big iconic studio role before, unsuccessfully auditioning for the "Batman" role won by Christian Bale in 2005, and the 007 spot that went to Daniel Craig.

According to a Warner official, Cavill's name wasn't on the "Superman" short list when McG was attached to the project. However, during the auditions for "Batman," he apparently made an impression on Christopher Nolan, who is producing Warner's upcoming "Superman" project.

Studio insiders, meanwhile, confirm he did screen-test for the role.

Warner has targeted a December 2012 release date for its "Superman" reboot. (The studio needs to get moving, since the heirs to Siegel and Shuster's Jerome Siegel begin sharing the the copyright to "Superman" with DC Comics and Warner starting in 2013.)

David S. Goyer is writing the script, based on a story by Goyer and Nolan, who will produce with Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder. Legendary's Thomas Tull will exec produce the project, which is being targeted for a holiday 2012 release.

Despite grossing $391 million worldwide, Warner's 2006 "Superman Returns," directed by Bryan Singer, was deemed a disappointment -- beyond the fact that the studio spent a whopping $270 million to make the movie.

Simply put, the franchise's core male demographic (aka fanboys) didn't widely accept the casting of Brandon Routh in the lead role.

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen," said Snyder, in a statement. "I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.

One evening, as Owen takes out his pent-up aggressions on a tree, his new neighbor Abby (Chloë Grace Moretz) appears over his shoulder. A young girl wise beyond her years, Abby just moved in next door to Owen with her stoic caretaker (Richard Jenkins), who seems to harbor a sinister secret. Compelled by Abby's apparent imperviousness to the harsh winter elements, her frail disposition, and the fact that she's nowhere to be found before the sun falls, Owen senses a kindred soul, and strikes up a friendship with the girl, despite her repeated attempts to maintain an emotional distance. Simultaneously, their community grows vigilant following a series of vicious murders, and Abby's caretaker vanishes without a trace. Later, as Abby begins to grow vulnerable, her bond with Owen strengthens. By the time Owen begins to suspect that his evasive new friend is something other than human, it starts to seem as if Abby could use a good friend after all. Given that his bullies are growing more emboldened by the day, so too could Owen.

Welcome to the Rileys

Their relationship steadily deteriorating in the eight years following their daughter's untimely death, a married couple unable to break the cycle of grief gets a second shot at love thanks to a scrappy, underage prostitute in this family drama starring James Gandolfini, Melissa Leo, and Kristen Stewart. Ever since the death of their daughter Emily, Doug (Gandolfini) and Lois Riley (Leo) have been drifting apart. As Lois wrestles with a suffocating sense of guilt over her daughter's death, Doug copes by entering into an affair with Vivian, a local waitress. Lately, Lois hasn't even been able to muster the courage to venture outside, summoning hairdressers to her home in order to maintain appearances and communicating with few people other than her sister Harriet and the local pastor. When Vivian dies and Doug finds himself in a Baton Rouge strip club during a business trip, he realizes he's come to a dangerous crossroads in life. Turning down an offer for a private dance by 16-year-old stripper Mallory, Doug instead accompanies the girl home and makes a most unusual proposition: if Mallory will allow him to stay in her run-down apartment long enough to straighten himself out, he will pay her $100 a day for her trouble. For Mallory, who isn't used to getting money for nothing, it seems like a great deal. She accepts, and Doug phones Lois to tell her he won't be coming home. As time passes, Doug and Mallory settle into an unconventional kind of domesticity. Meanwhile, back home, Lois realizes that she'll have to act fast in order to save her marriage, even if that means venturing well outside her comfort zone for the first time in nearly a decade. Most days she can't even make it to the mailbox, but after a couple attempts, Lois manages to start up her car and get on the freeway heading south. When Lois arrives in Louisiana and discovers that her husband is living with a foul-mouthed, underage hooker, she is at first horrified. Like Doug before her, however, Lois quickly warms to Mallory, due in part to her striking similarities to Emily. Before long, Lois, too, has moved in, and the three form something of an unconventional family. But when Lois attempts to steer Mallory from the path of self-destruction, the young girl bristles. Later, Mallory is hospitalized after being badly beaten by a client, and Doug and Lois rush to be by her side. Could this be the thing that pulls them back together? When Lois admits to Doug how their daughter really died, his kind understanding gives hope for a new beginning.

As children, Betty Anne Waters (Hilary Swank) and her brother, Kenny (Sam Rockwell), survived bad parenting and poverty by leaning on each other for support. Kenny grows up to be something of a troublemaker, eventually being convicted for a murder he swears he didn't commit. His sister believes him and, without even a high-school diploma, sets about going to law school in order to figure out a way to free him. She gets a GED, then graduates law school with the help of her only friend (Minnie Driver). She eventually gets the attention of O.J. Simpson defense attorney Barry Scheck (Peter Gallagher), who runs an organization devoted to overturning wrongful convictions by analyzing DNA evidence with tests that were unavailable at the time the cases were tried. When he agrees to help her -- if she can find the old blood evidence -- Betty plows her way through the legal complications that stand between her brother and his freedom. Tony Goldwyn directs this drama inspired by a true story.

Now, in addition to confronting their own mortality, all three must come to terms with a lifetime of emotions and unfulfilled longings while pondering their true purpose for being.

The Tillman Story

In 2002, as America was poised to go to war in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Pat Tillman, a defensive back with the Arizona Cardinals, joined the United States Army, believing he had a duty to serve in a time of need even though he had signed a lucrative deal to play professional football. Tillman served a tour of duty in Iraq and was on patrol in Afghanistan when, on April 22, 2004, he was killed during a reconnaissance mission near the border of Pakistan. When word spread about Tillman's death, the Army issued a press release declaring he'd been shot down while trying to heroically block the fire of a band of Taliban insurgents. While the Army's story painted a glowing picture of the fallen soldier and athlete, some of the details sounded suspect to Tillman's family, and in time they began asking questions. As it happens, Tillman's parents were outspoken in their opposition to the war in Iraq, and after he had seen what was happening firsthand, so was Tillman, who had been a sharp student with an interest in politics during his college years. In time, Tillman's parents demanded an investigation into their son's death, and the testimony of several witnesses revealed that Tillman wasn't felled during an act of heroism -- his death was the result of "friendly fire" by men from his own company, shooting indiscriminately at an unknown target. Filmmaker Amir Bar-Lev examines Pat Tillman's unusual life and times, the facts about his death, how and why the military created a cover story to hide the truth, and his family's battle to bring the real story into the open in the documentary The Tillman Story, which received its world premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival
