#Jumanji Welcome To The Jungle Over Takes #StarWars The Last Jedi

Having had to take second place to Star Wars: The Last Jedi in its first couple of weeks on release, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle took advantage of a quiet early January weekend to leapfrog into first, earning $36 million according to studio estimates. That's an impressive feat for the film, which has been scoring well with audiences and earning a solid $244.3 million in the States (and taking in a global total of $519.3 million). And given the film's success so far, that could point to sequel potential, assuming Dwayne Johnson has any time in his schedule within the next decade. Last Jedi couldn't even settle for second this weekend, also losing out to new horror sequel Insidious: The Last Key. The latest instalment of the scare franchise took in $29.2 million, a good result given its typically thrifty $10 million budget (at least before marketing is taken into account). And it also represents a boost from the third chapter's opening figure. So the most rece

#StarWars The Last Jedi Came In Huge

The sequel came in a mere 11 percent behind ' Star Wars: The Force Awakens ' in North America. Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Last Jedi delivered an early Christmas present for Hollywood and theater owners over the weekend with a near-record $220 million debut in North America, the second-best showing of all time behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Final numbers released Monday matched Sunday's estimate of $220 million. The Last Jedi opened a mere 11 percent behind The Force Awakens ' record-shattering domestic launch of $247.9 million on the same weekend in 2015, a rare feat in the age of sequelitis. Revenue for the weekend spiked more than 30 percent over the same weekend last year, helping to narrow the yearly gap from 4 percent to 3 percent. Internationally, director Rian Johnson's tentpole took in $230.8 million from 54 markets for a worldwide launch of $450.8 million. The Last Jedi came in 18 percent behind Force Awakens overseas, where

#LadyBird Surged Into The Top 10 At This Weekends Box Office

Following the extended holiday last weekend, it felt as though the US box office was still slumbering, heavy with Thanksgiving leftovers and little energy for much that was new. No new wide releases emerged, so Pixar's Coco ruled the roost once again, leading a top 10 that was almost unchanged with $26.1 million, according to studio estimates. Managing to stay up despite missing expectations, Justice League saw in its third weekend in second place with $16.5 million, bringing its Stateside total to $197.3 million. Wonder , a considerable success so far, retained third position, adding $12.5 million and climbing closer to $100 million. At fourth, Thor: Ragnarok earned $9.6 million, pushing its own US total to date closer to $300 million. And at the back of the top five pack we have Daddy's Home 2 , which took in $7.5 million. Murder On The Orient Express repeated in sixth with $6.7 million, while the first change in the chart comes as Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird wi

#PixarCoco On Top Of The Thanksgiving Box Office

This past weekend was Thanksgiving in the States, and that means families are often looking for movies as a distraction from any arguments – particularly this year. Pixar was there to fill the attention span with its latest release, Coco , and the movie took in $49 million across the weekend, according to studio estimates. That sounds low for a Pixar release, but it's only part of the story; the tale of a young wannabe musician's journey to the Land of the Dead was actually released on Wednesday in the US, to get a head-start on the holiday and is currently sitting at $71.1 million domestically. Worldwide (excluding places such as here in the UK, where it doesn't open until January), the movie has made more than $153 million. Even the movie's basic total was enough to let it knock Justice League down to second, with the underperforming superhero movie adding $40 million for a $171.5 million total to date. Family pic Wonder was nudged to third and $22.3 million,
