THE ROVER Starring Robert Pattinson ACQUIRED BY A24

DAVID MICHÔD’S HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW THRILLER THE ROVER ACQUIRED BY A24
FOR THEATRICAL RELEASE IN THE U.S.

Michôd’s follow-up to critically acclaimed Animal Kingdom stars Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson.

A24 today announced the acquisition of David Michôd’s latest film THE ROVER for theatrical release in the U.S. The slow-burn thriller stars Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson and is set in the Australian desert in a dangerous and damaged near future. The film was written by Michôd and based on a story conceived by Michôd and Joel Edgerton. THE ROVER was produced by Liz Watts for Porchlight Film and David Linde under his Lava Bear Films banner, along with Michôd. The film also co-stars Scoot McNairy, David Field, Anthony Hayes, Gillian Jones and Susan Prior. Celebrated Argentinean filmmaker Natsha Braier acted as Director of Photography and Michôd also teamed up again with Animal Kingdom Production Designer, Jo Ford.

THE ROVER is set in a world ten years following the collapse of the western economic system, where Australia’s mineral resources have drawn the desperados and dangerous to its shores. With society in decline, the rule of law has disintegrated and life is cheap. The film follows hardened loner Eric (Pearce), who travels the desolate towns and roads of the Australian outback. When a gang of thieves steals his car they leave behind the wounded Rey (Pattinson) in their wake. Forcing Rey to help track the gang, Eric will go to any lengths to take back the one thing that matters to him.

A24 says: “David Michôd is a visionary filmmaker and we are thrilled to work with him to bring THE ROVER to US audiences. The movie will undoubtedly confirm his singular voice and distinctive gift for creating arresting visuals and indelible characters.”

Soon after confirming the U.S. deal producers Liz Watts and David Linde commented that ”A24 is a perfect fit for THE ROVER - a young, innovative and exciting company at the cutting edge of the independent sector in the US, they have contributed to an already exciting array of global distribution partners, and we are pleased to be partnering with them on the future release of the film.”

A24 negotiated the deal with UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers and FilmNation Entertainment. UTA also represents Michôd. Prior to selling the U.S. rights to A24, FilmNation Entertainment licensed the film to a majority of territories worldwide based on selectively showing a two-minute reel of footage from the film.

The film was shot this spring on location in the deserts of South Australia, and is currently in post-production in Sydney. Village Roadshow will release the film in Australia and New Zealand. THE ROVER’S investment partners include Screen Australia, the South Australian Film Corporation and Screen NSW, and financial partners Fulcrum Media and the Union Bank.

Each month's content revolves around the Alamo's national programming, which is inspired by absolute devotion to the best and the most fun movies of all time.

"Every issue of BIRTH.MOVIES.DEATH. is designed to deepen the movie-going experience with smart, funny articles that explore the films being shown at the Alamo Drafthouse. But there's more to it than just what plays on screen; BIRTH.MOVIES.DEATH. is dedicated to the idea that movies live on beyond the frame, and the magazine includes articles and essays about everything from history to drinking -- all carefully themed with what the Alamo will be playing onscreen that month," says Editor-in-Chief Devin Faraci.

The first issue of BIRTH.MOVIES.DEATH., titled "Beasts Vs. Bots," is brimming with Kaiju-related content in honor of Guillermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM, in theaters July 12. This issue will include an interview with del Toro himself, along with articles on such topics as the real life inspiration for Godzilla, North Korea's bizarre entry in the Kaiju genre, a lost KING KONG knock-off that might have been Japan's first giant monster movie and much more.

The magazine ties in with the Drafthouse's Kaiju-centric July programming, featuring films such as THE HOST, EVANGELION 1.1, METROPOLIS, KING KONG, MOTHRA and, of course, GODZILLA. You can find showtimes for each title at www.drafthouse.com.

ENDER'S GAME To Take Over Comic-Con 2013

Summit Entertainment will showcase the studio's highly anticipated film event ENDER'S GAME at Comic-Con 2013, presenting never-before-seen new footage, appearances by cast members and filmmakers, and several massive, interactive fan events. A full slate of activities related to the film to be unveiled at this year's Comic-Con, including:

Falling Skies Invades Comic-Con

TNT’s Falling Skies to Invade Comic-Con as Cast Returns to San Diego For Panel and Signing on Friday, July 19.

TNT’s epic drama Falling Skies, one of basic cable's top-rated dramas, is bringing the 2nd Mass and its alien resistance fighters back to San Diego Comic-Con for a panel Q&A, autograph session and exclusive look at what’s ahead for the remainder of its third season. The Falling Skies panel will feature series stars Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Connor Jessup, Colin Cunningham and Sarah Carter, along with executive producers Remi Aubuchon and Greg Beeman. Sci-fi fan favorite and series guest star Doug Jones will round out the panel. Wil Wheaton will serve as the moderator for the panel session on Friday, July 19 at the San Diego Convention Center. An autograph signing will follow at the Dark Horse booth.

Airing on TNT Sundays at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), Falling Skies chronicles the extraordinary story about life and survival in the wake of a catastrophic alien invasion. Seven months have passed since the survivors of the 2nd Mass reached Charleston, which has been named capital of the New United States. Now elected to public office, Tom (Wyle) has taken a more aggressive approach to the alien occupation than former leader Dr. Manchester. The government has formed a tenuous alliance with a band of rebel skitters who now paint their faces with a red and yellow stripe before battle in honor of Red Eye, their fallen leader. Tom's son Ben (Jessup) serves as the mediator between Mason and the rebel skitters. But the alliance may not be enough to overpower the enemy Espheni, whose forces are now being led by an even more sinister overlord. To complicate matters further, another race of aliens has just entered the battlefield.

Falling Skies is produced for TNT by DreamWorks Television. Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks Television heads Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank serve as executive producers, along with Remi Aubuchon and Greg Beeman.

Falling Skies recently returned for its third season, scoring 6.2 million viewers in Live + 7, plus solid demo growth for its June 9 launch. In its second season, Falling Skies ranked as basic cable's #1 summer drama among adults 25-54.

White House Down Review. Senseless Action Stupidity That's Missing Any Semblance Of Heart

White House Down Review

Does the second White House invasion flick this year demonstrate its necessity, or should Hollywood stop sleeping with itself? Read more to find out.


Hollywood is in the business of making entertainment that sometimes finds itself in bed with mirror images of itself. Think Tombstone and Wyatt Earp, both featuring the famous Texas lawman and released in 1993, or 1998's Deep Impact and Armaggedon, neither of which was worth the time. Apparently, Hollywood didn't think we had experienced enough White House invasion films in 2013 with Olympus Has Fallen, as another one in White House Down is about to be released. Unfortunately, one was definitely enough.


Low-man on the Capitol Police totem pole John Cale (Channing Tatum, GI Joe: Rise of Cobra) visits the White House to interview for a job as a Secret Service agent, only to be rebuffed by Agent Finnerty (Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Dark Knight) for being too working class. With hat in hand, he's dragged through a White House tour by his daughter Emily (Joey King), who's still suffering from her parents' painful breakup. It's here that Emily and John come face to face with President Sawyer (Jamie Foxx, Collateral), who's just announced that he intends to pull all US troops out of the Middle East. This triggers an explosive reaction by the FBI's Rogues Galley of home-grown terrorists, who have teamed up behind the former black ops solider Stenz (Jason Clarke, Zero Dark Thirty) to rob the country and burn it down at the same time. Cue blazing guns, a POTUS rescue mission gone bad, and the John McClane-ish Cale, who must protect the President at all costs while rescuing his now-captive daughter.


Unlike Gerard Butler's Olympus which featured a somewhat realistic concept and solid acting, White House Down is almost a parody, existing as an over-the-top action/dramedy that insensitively mocks a devastating attack on our nation's capitol. It's that tonal difference which lent credence to Olympus as a mostly plausible exercise, and what kills WHD. The King of Disaster Films - Director Roland Emmerich (2012) - doesn't fashion WHD around any sort of realism, including a highly dangerous flyby over the Lincoln Memorial which Foxx laughingly refers to as the 'thing.' But it's also the way he ignores basic human drama here that disappoints. Granted, it's not like Emmerich has ever made a realistic movie about people in dangerous situations, so why start here? But unlike 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow, which at least featured some character development, WHD leaves all of that to other films, surrounding us in goofy dialogue about characters we ultimately could care less about. When Air Force One is knocked out of the sky, and dozens of White House personnel are needlessly offed by our home-grown terrorists, we don't feel anything for the victims.


This sort of careless mishap was written by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-man, Losers), who also seems to favor spectacle over substance. The usually enjoyable Foxx just never clicked for me as President Wagner, possibly due to his youthful appearance or Vanderbilt's de-fanging of Foxx's character into someone who's never served in the military and could somehow benefit from a good home invasion. Tatum, an action hero still in waiting, doesn't yet have the gravitas of a Bruce Willis ala Die Hard to react appropriately enough to his daughter's capture, while Gyllenhaal is the only one awake enough to utter her lines with any level of interest. Don't get me wrong: the idea of Summer and movie smash-ups go hand-in-hand; but Emmerich has made better, and with arguably the best cast he's ever had, the effect here is lost.


White House Down could have been so much more - a truly epic invasion film with a human story to tell - had our creative team gave us character development to match the ferocity of the action. Instead, we're left with a silly, ridiculous flick that's missing any semblance of a soul. In a Summer season with a lot to prove, this film utterly disappoints. White House Down is rated PG-13 and has a runtime of 131 minutes.

Tomorrow is the San Francisco stop of THE LONE RANGER RIDE FOR JUSTICE TOUR.  This event is a scavenger hunt around the city to find the statues, photograph them, and post to social media to win a trip to New Mexico.

Summit Entertainment might be delivering something HUGE at Comic-Con this year. This poster was sent to me by an anonymous source. So take it with a grain of salt. But how sweet would it be if this news is on the up and up.

I have tried try to get a confirmation from Summit Entertainment but have heard nothing back. Either way this is a pretty amazing poster. Let's hope they do deliver at Comic-Con this year.

Teaser Trailer For The Counsellor Starring An All Star Cast

As Walter White can tell you, dabbling in drug dealing can be bad for your health. It’s a lesson that cocky lawyer Michael Fassbender clearly hasn’t learned in this first teaser trailer for Ridley Scott's The Counsellor.

With Scott directing Cormac McCarthy’s script, the film also comes laden with acting goodness as Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Goran Visnjic, Bruno Ganz, Natalie Dormer and even Breaking Bad’s Hank, Dean Norris, show up in a tale of crime, corruption and one man getting into very deep doo-doo.



Despite his belief that he can get involved with narco-trading, make a mint and pull the escape cord any time he likes, Fassbender’s main man soon ends up in real trouble, on the run from seriously nasty people. As Bardem says, “You won’t see it coming.” Oh, and because we're nice, here's a bonus look at the first pic of Fassbender from the film...


With Scott on slick form and Bardem adding to the series titled Javier’s Mad Hair (here he looks like he’s been sticking his fingers in plug sockets), The Counsellor (the official press release gives it the British two Ls, so that's what we're using) promises to be entertainingly sleek and tense.

Liam Neeson Is Getting Paid For TAKEN 3

Get ready for a third installment of Taken, the franchise launched by EuropaCorp’s Luc Besson and released by 20th Century Fox. I’m told that Liam Neeson is closing a deal in the vicinity of $20 million to reprise his role as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent who used his brutal skills after his daughter was kidnapped in France to be sold into sex slavery. Neeson was a reluctant participant in the first sequel but got paid in the $15 million neighborhood. Now I hear he’s getting another raise, and that EuropaCorp is planning to start production in February.

Next will come the effort to make deals with Maggie Grace, who played his daughter in the first two films, and Famke Janssen, who played his ex-wife. They have a script well in the works from Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, who teamed for the first two films. No director has yet been set, but don’t be surprised if Olivier Megaton comes back. He’s the Besson protege who directed the last film, which cost around $45 million and grossed over $376 million. The first film cost around $25 million and grossed over $226 million, with Pierre Morel directing. I thought the original film was vastly better than the sequel. But when the sequel does better than the original at the box office, and doesn’t cost that much more, of course they will try for the trifecta. The key has been getting Neeson. Remarkable that the former boxer will make more money than he has ever in his long career, and that he has grown into one of the most bankable action stars in the business. This is after he stood still for most of his career and suddenly started kicking ass in his later years, leading to this payday at the tender age of 61.

The film is an upcoming American science fiction adventure film directed by Neil Burger, based on the novel of the same name by Veronica Roth. The film is produced by Lucy Fisher, Pouya Shabazian and Douglas Wick, with a screenplay by Evan Daugherty. It stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Zoe Kravitz, Jai Courtney, Maggie Q, Ashley Judd, Ansel Elgort and Kate Winslet. The story takes place in a dystopian post-apocalyptic version of Chicago. Divergent is scheduled to be released on March 21, 2014.

Lionsgate announced today that Fandango Chief Correspondent Dave Karger will moderate a panel on Saturday, July 20th at the San Diego Comic-Con, featuring talent and exclusive footage from two of the studio’s upcoming films THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE (opening November 22, 2013, the film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth) and I, FRANKENSTEIN (opening January 24, 2014, the film stars Aaron Eckhart, Yvonne Strahovski and Bill Nighy). PSYCH Comic-Con Information & Special Treat For Fans

USA Network announced this morning that they have ordered two additional episodes for Season 8 of PSYCH and for the first time ever, fans will be able to vote on the storyline. The results will be announced when PSYCH makes its fifth annual to Comic-Con in San Diego (July 18-21).

Cast Makes Triumphant Return to San Diego with an Exclusive Midnight Screening of "PSYCH: The Musical" and Comic-Con® Panel Discussion, Moderated by Cult Hero Cary Elwes.

USA Network, the #1 network in all of basic cable, is giving PSYCH-Os what they want: more PSYCH episodes! Due to the extraordinary popularity of the show, the network has ordered two additional episodes for the eighth season, and, for the first time ever, fans will have the opportunity to vote for one they want to see appear on-air. The results will be announced when PSYCH makes its fifth annual return to San Diego’s Comic Con® on July 18.

· TELETHON - In a classic "whodunit?” case with a PSYCH twist, Shawn and Gus investigate a murder that Shawn is convinced was committed by the beloved host of Santa Barbara's annual Children's Hospital Telethon. There's only one problem – the host was seen by hundreds of thousands of people on live television during the exact time the murder occurred elsewhere. Can Shawn steal the show, poke a hole in this rock-solid alibi, and prove the host did it? Or will Shawn fail in front of his biggest audience yet?

· DREAM THERAPY - From acclaimed director James Roday ("Mr. Yin Presents…", "Heeeeere's Lassie"), comes a new vision in terror: "Nightmare on State Street!” In the episode, an exhausted Gus enters dream therapy to understand the cause of his recent night terrors. But after this, nothing is ever again what it seems... He soon realizes that in dreams, no one can hear you scream!

· FOOD TRUCK - When the well-known owner of a beloved Santa Barbara food truck is mysteriously murdered, Shawn and Gus, fans of delicious flavor, are determined to solve the crime as only they can. They go undercover as proprietors of the PSYCH Naptime Food Truck, and soon discover that the high-profit world of Santa Barbara's mobile food business is cutthroat, insular and a place of many secrets – many of them worth killing for.

The results will be announced in San Diego where PSYCH kicks off two days of activations starting on July 17 with an exclusive midnight screening of the highly anticipated “PSYCH: The Musical,” a two-hour special episode airing this winter on USA. The following day, the network will host a characteristically hilarious PSYCH panel during Comic-Con with the winning storyline revealed by the cast.

Hosted at the Reading Cinema in the Gaslamp district, the advanced screening festivities will begin the afternoon of Wednesday, July 17, and will continue with a not-to-be-missed late-night party. Fans at the event will have an exclusive opportunity to download a track from the musical, made available as part of a partnership with Shazam. D23 EXPO CELEBRATES THE WONDERFUL WORLDS OF DISNEY WITH INAUGURAL COSTUME CONTEST.

À La Mode” Invites Guests at the Ultimate Disney Fan Event to Dress Their Best For Fun and Prizes On Friday, August 9

Since the first D23 Expo in 2009, fans have shown their passion for Disney by dressing up as their favorite and most beloved Disney characters while attending the one-of-a-kind event at the Anaheim Convention Center. This year, D23: The Official Disney Fan Club celebrates that excitement and enthusiasm with the first À La Mode Costume Contest, which will take place Friday, August 9 at 2:30 p.m. in Stage 23.

À La Mode, named after The Incredibles’ couture genius Edna Mode, is the first competition of its kind to showcase fans’ creativity through costumes inspired by all things Disney, including Motion Pictures (Animation, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm); Parks & Resorts; Consumer Products; Media Networks (including Disney Channel, ABC, and ESPN); and Interactive.

Five collectible trophies—specially designed for the À La Mode Costume Contest—will be awarded to the most magical costumes in the following categories: Original Design (or inspired by…), Re-creation, Craftsmanship, Young Fan, and Best in Show.

The contest will be two (2) hours in length, and, therefore, the number of entrants is limited. Guests interested in participating MUST complete an entry from, available now at D23Expo.com. Closing date for entry is July 21. Not all applications for entry will be accepted. Applications will be evaluated on the merits of quality and quantity and selected at the producers’ discretion.

NBC's HANNIBAL To Deliver At Comic-Con 2013

June 25, 2013 – With the 2nd season of Hannibal having just been picked-up by NBC, Katie O’Connell, CEO of Gaumont International Television, announced today that the company will be attending the upcoming Comic Con Convention in San Diego, CA and will be hosting a Hannibal-themed panel on Thursday, July 18th from 6:45pm – 7:45pm in Room 6A.

The panel, entitled Hannibal: Feed Your Fear, will feature Emmy-Award-winning executive producer Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies), director David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), Martha De Laurentiis (Red Dragon), and star Hugh Dancy (playing Agent Will Graham) as they discuss key behind the scenes moments from the first season of the ground-breaking NBC drama. The panel will also discuss the future for Hannibal and reveal a few Season Two elements.

Well-known showrunner Bryan Fuller is executive producing.

Additionally, Hannibal, which is from Gaumont International Television in association with Sony Pictures Television Networks, has also performed strongly internationally and will return for a second season to Sony Pictures Television’s AXN channels.
