#Terminator Franchise Is Still Alive

Back before the film came out, Paramount and its producing partners were so confident in the new Terminator entry, Genisys , that they announced sequel dates for not one but two films. Then Genisys landed with a wet thud and that idea seemed to collapse like a T-1000 in molten metal. But according to one of the producers via TheWrap , Skydance Pictures’ Dana Goldberg, the whole idea of a continuing franchise has not been scrapped. “I wouldn’t say on hold, so much as re-adjusting,” she said Tuesday at The Wrap’s 6th Annual Media Leadership Conference, addressing the fact that the sequels were just part of the plan, with a TV show also in development. “At Skydance, when we talk movies, we talk universes, even more than franchises. So the idea of a Terminator TV show fits into that universe. All the steps have to be taken in unison.” And though the box office returns in the US and several other countries weren’t exactly something to sing about, the studio and Skydance are taking th

2015 Summer Movie Report Card

Team Sandwich breaks down their Summer movie faves and hates. Story by Matt Cummings, John Meneghetti, and Brandon Wolfe. With the 2015 summer movie schedule winding down, it's time for us to look back on the winners, losers, disappointments, and clear bombs. Although August has experienced a blood bath, down over 60% from the same month last year, the industry is up a mere 0.2% for the season. But that's what you get when your second highest-grossing August movie is The Fantastic Four . Yikes. Still, it was a fruitful summer, filled with lots of surprises, big performances, and incredible duds. Did your movies make any of our lists? Read on to find out! We've also included reviews for every review here, so feel free to back to them. To be clear, the Summer movie season is defined as the first Friday in May through the Labor Day Weekend. #BoxOffice Report: 'Ant-Man' Wins Tiny Weekend; 'Trainwreck' Surprises

Even an original Avenger can't bring home the ants. Story by Matt Cummings Marvel Studios can breathe a sigh of relief (sort of), as their record of 11 consecutive #1 openings remains intact. But while Ant-Man won the weekend with an estimated $57.23 million, the box office celebration is sure to be short. That's because early hopes of $65m fell as Friday turned to Saturday, led by 'seen that before in Iron Man ' comments. By the time it was done, the Paul Rudd heist comedy had barely beaten 2008's The Incredible Hulk , which holds the lowest opening among the 12 Marvel Studios films at $55.41m. Coming in at number 2 was Minions , which took it on the chin, plunging 57% to $49.27m. And that number was boosted by a ridiculous 4,300 theater count, which means it could have slid even further had it gotten the typical 3,100 treatment. The highly-anticipated Universal/Illumination Entertainment spin-off suffered from both poor reviews and perhaps la

#BoxOffice Report: Machines, Strippers Fall, 'Inside' Outperforms

Post-apocalyptic machines and strippers lose out in July 4th Weekend bust. Story by Matt Cummings Early numbers are coming in from this week's domestic box office, and it doesn't look good for two movies with high expectations from their studios. It appears that Pixar's Inside Out will finally take the number 1 slot from three-peater Jurassic World , leaving Terminator Genisys and Magic Mike XXL in the dust. With hgh praise from critics and even talk of whether it deserves an Oscar nod for Best Picture, the movie about a little girl's emotions will take in an estimated $30 million over the three-day weekend. It's already made over $225m and on Friday seemed ready to exert its influence over Mike and Terminator . Coming in at a close number 2 is Jurassic World , which should take in $28-29m. Considering its staying power, there's no reason why a last-minute surge could see the two slip-flop, attesting to the popularity of both. That leaves

Movie Review: 'Terminator Genisys'

Terminator Genisys seeks a revisionist tone while slapping its hardcore fans in the face. Review by Matt Cummings There's a new trend in Hollywood these days: the expand-quel, either telling stories around the main plot ( 300: Rise of an Empire ), forgetting huge chunks of its filmography ( Jurassic World ), or establishing their universe in an alternate reality (2009's Star Trek ). The results have been less than consistent, dividing fans in an effort to pack in audiences hungry for nostalgia. And while Terminator Genisys has plenty of that, it still utterly fails to do anything new, different, or even moderately interesting. In a dystopian future run by murderous machines, mankind is about to strike back. Led by the hero John Connor (Jason Clarke), he and friend Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) learn that their victory is short-lived, as another Terminator has been sent back in time to alter history once again. When Reese is sent back to 1984 expecting to help a f

Arnold Schwarzenegger To Star In "478"

Deadline is reporting Arnold Schwarzenegger has found a project to follow Terminator Genisys . He has aligned himself to star in 478, a dark script by Javier Gullon, the Spanish writer best known for the Denis Villenueve-directed Enemy . That was an adaptation of the Jose Saramago classic novel The Double that Jake Gyllenhaal starred in. Darren Aronofsky’s Protozoa is producing and the aim is to shoot in the fall. In 478 , Schwarzenegger plays a man whose wife and child die in a plane crash. The tragedy was caused by an air traffic controller’s screw-up. The air traffic controller is vilified for his mistake and placed into protective custody. Schwarzenegger cannot let it go, and is determined to seek vengeance. Though is sounds like a standard revenge film, I’m told it isn’t. It is much more subtle than that — a real character piece more than an action film and gives Schwarzenegger a chance to show the chops he displayed on Maggie. Please Leave A Comment-

Jurassic World On Track For $100 Million Opening

Dino sequel might be summer's only dino-sized opening. By Brandon Wolfe Deadline reports that Universal’s Jurassic World , opening June 12, is tracking for a domestic opening weekend of between $100-130 million, roughly in line with Man of Steel ’s opening gross of $116 million. Awareness for the film is presently in the 90% range, higher than San Andreas , which opens next week. Interestingly enough, though Jurassic is one of the summer’s earlier releases, it could be one of the last films of the summer to gross more than $100 million in its first three days. Only Universal’s other big summer release, Minions , is expected is join that club. Though there are other big films in the pipeline, the Terminator and Mission: Impossible franchises have, historically, not performed to that level straight out of the gate, and Marvel’s Ant-Man isn’t expected to do traditional Marvel-sized business.
