Total Recall Remake Has Found A Home

Baby, You Make Me Wish I Had Three Hands

Columbia Pictures’ Total Recall reboot appears headed to Toronto for a late March 2011 shoot.
The modern remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzennegar-starring sci-fi flick looks set to shoot in the city’s giant Pinewood Toronto Studios, the Toronto Star newspaper reported Thursday.

The booking follows Pinewood’s North American beach-head receiving a $34.5 million loan from the Ontario government to lure big budget movie and TV shoots to the city.

Len Wiseman (Underworld series) will direct Total Recall based on a script by Kurt Wimmer, with Neal H. Moritz producing through his Original Film banner. The project, based on the Philip K. Dick story, portrays a man haunted by a recurring dream of rocketing to Mars. Total Recall is just the big budget Hollywood shoot that Ontario has been looking to draw to the city. Pinewood Toronto Studios has recently hosted movie shoots like Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, The Thing, and Dream House. But it’s the vfx-heavy studio projects like Total Recall that Ontario has been looking to draw away from Vancouver and Los Angeles, which have been in the hi-tech soundstage business for far longer than Toronto.

Pinewood Toronto Studios also unveiled Thursday a $34.5-million repayable loan from Infrastructure Ontario, an Ontario government agency, to “enhance the city of Toronto's ability to attract big-budget films and TV projects, as well as help strengthen Toronto's role as one of the world's great production centres," according to a statement from the studio.

Top 10 Films Of 2010

There Are Some Surprises

With the year coming close to the end we thought we would wrap up the Top Ten films of 2010. The list ranges from A toy in a box to sexy vampires, a boy wizard, a green ogre and even a titan if you can believe that.  I was surprised to see some of the box office totals for these film.

Check out the list after the Jump..

1.Toy Story 3

The Pixar threequel, shot in 3D, grossed $1.1 billion at the box office. Domestically, it grossed a handy $415 million. The news overseas was even better, where Toy Story 3 grossed $648.1 million. Not bad for a franchise that took a decade-long hiatus. The extra charge for a 3D ticket no doubt boosted the bottom line for Pixar and Disney.

2. Alice in Wonderland

In the months leading up to the release of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, there was rampant speculation about whether audiences would embrace Tim Burton’s retelling of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale. The movie became a hit, and had impressive playability. Domestically, Alice grossed $334.2 million. Overseas, it soared, grossing a whopping $690.1 million. Worldwide, Alice earned $1 billion at the box office to join Toy Story 3 on the top 10 list of all time. Toy Story 3 is No. 5; Alice, No. 6.

3. Inception

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan further buoyed his standing with Inception, which grossed $825.4 million at the worldwide box office for Warner Bros. The Leonardo DiCaprio starrer grossed $292.5 million domestically, and $532.9 million internationally—all without 3D.

4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

The boy wizard may been a teenager now, but he’s lost not of his magic. Warner Bros.’ Deathly Hallows grossed $265.7 million domestically and $558.4 million overseas for a worldwide total of $824.1 million. Franchise has been a goldmine for Warners, explaining why the studio decided to split J.K. Rowling’s final book into two parts. There can never be too much of a good thing.

5. Shrek Forever After

The fourth installment in the popular Shrek franchise grossed $739.8 million worldwide for partners DreamWorks Animation and Paramount. Domestically, the 3D film grossed $238.5 million. It did double the business internationally, where the green ogre bullied his way to $501.4 million before bidding goodbye to audiences for good.

6. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

The third film in Summit Entertainment’s blockbuster franchise continued to have a sharp bite. Eclipse grossed $693.5 million worldwide, including a domestic booty of $300.5 million and international total of $392.9 million.

7. Iron Man 2

The Robert Downey Jr. starrer grossed $621.8 million worldwide, besting the $585.2 global haul for Iron Man. Domestically, the sequel grossed $312.1 million. Overseas, $309.6 million.

8. Despicable Me

The 3D film was a huge victory for Universal, which had a tough year otherwise. Descipable Me grossed $539.9 million globally. Kids pic grossed $250.5 million domestically and $289.4 internationally. Can anyone say franchise?

9. How to Train Your Dragon

This original toon from DreamWorks animation was beloved among the critics. It didn’t do so bad commercially either. Dragon grossed $494.9 worldwide for DreamWorks Animation and Paramount. The 3D toon grossed $217.6 million domestically and $277.3 million internationally.

10. Clash of the Titans

Warner Bros.’ remake of the cult classic did far better than expected, grossing $493.2 million worldwide. Warners’ decision to convert the film to 3D was a smart one, since it boosted overall grosses. Domestically, the movie grossed $163.2 million. Internationally, it earned $330 million.

To call insurance agent Tim Lippe (Ed Helms), “naive” is a gross understatement. He’s never left his small hometown. He’s never stayed at a hotel. And he’s never experienced anything like Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sent to represent his company at the annual insurance convention, Tim is soon distracted by three convention veterans (John C. Reilly, Anne Heche and Isiah Whitlock Jr.) who will show him the ropes and push his boundaries. For a guy who plays everything by the book, this convention will be anything but conventional.

Cedar Rapids opens February 11th, 2011

NFL Madden Curse Being Made Into A Film

Madden Curse To Be Made Into A Movie NFL

The Wrap has learned that Electronic Arts is developing "Madden Curse," a sports comedy that incorporates the infamous jinx, believed to strike NFL players who appear on the cover of EA's popular "Madden" video game with injury or poor performance.

The story will follow a former Madden video game champion who is forced out of retirement just as he finds himself on the corner of the game's cover -- and subject to the curse.

Pat O'Brien, VP of EA Entertainment, is spearheading the project as one of its producers.

O'Brien wasn't immediately available for comment on Monday, but an individual at Electronic Arts confirmed that the company is developing a movie about the so-called curse.

"I don't know that we believe in the curse. The players don't believe in the curse."
Oh the curse is real ask LaDainian Tomlinson, the former San Diego Chargers running back who turned down the opportunity to appear on the 2008 cover of Madden. Tomlinson cited contract negotiations as the chief reason why he turned down the cover, but perhaps Tomlinson is a bit more superstitious than he's willing to admit.

Read more Madden Curse facts after the Jump..

The Madden franchise has already spawned a reality TV show, "Madden Nation," which has aired on ESPN2 since 2005. The series follows top players from around the nation as they compete for the chance to win a $100,000 grand prize.

Regardless of whether the Madden Curse actually exists or not, it certainly has a spooky history (outlined in great detail below; thus ends news about the potential film).

NFL legend John Madden appeared on the cover of all the Madden games until 1999, when San Francisco 49ers running back Garrison Hearst had the unfortunate honor. Hearst played well throughout the regular season but broke his fibula in the NFC divisional playoffs. He missed two full seasons rehabbing his leg and never fully recovered from the injury.

In 2000, the Madden cover featured runnings backs Barry Sanders and Dorsey Levens. When Sanders retired before the season, EA Sports released new copies of the game with Levens on the cover. He injured his knee and never won his starting job back.

The Madden Curse struck 2001 cover subject Eddie George a year late, though his career was cut short nonetheless, while QB Dante Culpepper suffered a season-ending knee injury after appearing on the 2002 cover.

After rushing for more than 1,300 yards for four straight seasons, 2003 cover Marshall Faulk was bothered by a lingering ankle injury that limited him to under 1,000 rushing yards.

Michael Vick broke his leg one day after Madden 2004 was released with his photo on the cover. He only played in five games all year.

After earning the honor in 2005, perennial Pro Bowler Ray Lewis failed to record a single interception, and a torn hamtring forced him to watch the Ravens fail to make the playoffs for the first time in four seasons

He also broke his wrist and missed 10 games the following year with a thigh injury.

In 2006, Donovan McNabb said publicly that he didn't believe in the curse. The Philadelphia Eagles QB suffered a sports hernia in his first game before opting for season-ending surgery after eight games.

In 2007, running back Shaun Alexander broke his foot and missed six games, never regaining his Pro Bowl form.

After Tomlinson turned down the 2008 cover, EA turned to Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young, who was swiftly struck by the curse, which limited him to just five games thanks to a quadriceps injury. The following year, he suffered a knee injury that caused him to miss most of the season.

Madden 2009 featured golden boy Brett Favre on the cover, but even the Madden Curse couldn't keep him out of the lineup.

The 2010 cover featured both Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Polamalu, the latter of whom sprained his MCL in the season opener before tearing his PCL later in the season. As for Fitzgerald, he suffered a rib injury that caused him to miss a playoff game, as well as the Pro Bowl.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees appears on the cover of the latest incarnation of Madden, and while he has managed to stay healthy this year, there are still two weeks left in the regular season for the curse to take its toll. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Sony Remaking "The Robber" Remake Of Der Rauber

"Pump-gun Ronnie" Making His Way To The USA

Sony has bought the English-language remake rights to Austrian helmer Benjamin Heisenberg's "The Robber."

Based on author Martin Prinz's source tome, "Der Rauber" tells the real-life story of marathon runner Johann Rettenberger, known as "Pump-gun Ronnie," who made a hobby of robbing banks. The Austrian-German thriller, which unspooled in competition at this year's Berlin Film Festival, had its German bow in March.

This time last year, Sony and Scott Rudin snapped up remake rights to Swedish-language hit "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo." The David Fincher-helmed adaptation is currently lensing in Sweden.

Laura Ziskin will serve as producer on "The Robber" retread. Sony has yet to announce a director.

Watch the Austrian trailer after the Jump..

Here is a description of the book from it's publisher:

In the 1980s the bank-robber Johann Rettenberger was the most wanted criminal in Austria. Known as Pumpgun Ronnie because of the weapon he used and the Ronald Reagan mask he wore for his robberies, he sometimes robbed two or three banks on the same day. He was also wanted for one murder, unconnected with the bank robberies. Unusually for a bank-robber, he was also a keen amateur marathon runner and had won several races. He jumped out of a window during questioning and escaped by running into the Vienna Woods. It took four days and the biggest police operation in Austrian history before he was cornered and shot himself. On the Run is not an attempt to analyse or explain, much less excuse Rettenberger, nor is it a biographical novel recreating the details of his life in chronological order. It is a novel about a man for whom running is of existential importance. He only seems to feel truly alive, truly himself, truly free when he is running. Although it does have the forward drive of the excitement of the chase, from the perspective of the quarry, it is more of an Austrian The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner than a thriller.

Pee-wee Herman Back To HBO

Pee-wee To Make His Return Home

On Tuesday HBO said it would shoot the Broadway production of “The Pee-wee Herman Show,” which stars Paul Reubens as that impish man-child of its title, for a special to be shown next year. Pee-wee historians – and you know who you are – may recall that HBO previously broadcast a “Pee-wee Herman Show” special in 1981, taped at the Roxy Theater in Los Angeles. That show, which Mr. Reubens and his colleagues at the Groundlings comedy theater began performing in 1980, would go on to form the basis of the “Pee-wee Herman Show” currently being presented at the Stephen Sondheim Theater on Broadway. HBO said it would tape its new “Pee-wee” special immediately after the show’s Broadway run ends on Jan. 2; a broadcast date wasn’t announced.

Here’s what Nancy Geller, senior vice president of HBO Original Programming, said in a press release.

Before his hit series and movies, HBO introduced Paul Reubens’ Pee-wee Herman to a national audience in the ‘Young Comedians’ series, followed by the groundbreaking 1981 special. It’s thrilling to have Paul back on the network, and it will be a blast to return to Pee-wee’s Playhouse.

Three decades after his first HBO special, Paul Reubens will return to the network in an exclusive presentation of his current hit Broadway show, it was announced today by Nancy Geller, senior vice president, HBO Original Programming. Debuting in 2011, the HBO presentation THE PEE-WEE HERMAN SHOW ON BROADWAY will shoot at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre New York this January, immediately following the conclusion of its exclusive Broadway engagement, running through Jan. 2.

“Before his hit series and movies, HBO introduced Paul Reubens’ Pee-wee Herman to a national audience in the ‘Young Comedians’ series, followed by the groundbreaking 1981 special,” noted Geller. “It’s thrilling to have Paul back on the network, and it will be a blast to return to Pee-wee’s Playhouse.”

Opening to critical acclaim at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Nov. 11, 2010, “The Pee-wee Herman Show” is 90 minutes of subversive humor and childlike wonder based on both Reubens’ original stage show, “The Pee-wee Herman Show,” and the Emmy®-winning Saturday morning TV show, “Pee-wee’s Playhouse,” which became a cultural phenomenon. The New York Times called the new Broadway show “yummier than chocolate,” with New York saying, “Welcome back, Pee-wee! You were sorely missed,” while the New York Post noted, “The audience screams for joy!”

The Broadway production of “The Pee-wee Herman Show” stars (in order of appearance): Paul Reubens as Pee-wee Herman, plus John Moody (Mailman Mike), Drew Powell (Bear), John Paragon (Jambi), Jesse Garcia (Sergio), Phil LaMarr (Cowboy Curtis), Lynne Marie Stewart (Miss Yvonne), Lance Roberts (King of Cartoons) and Josh Meyers (Firefighter). Reubens also brought the Pee-wee character to the big screen in “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” and “Big Top Pee-wee.”

THE PEE-WEE HERMAN SHOW ON BROADWAY reunites Paul Reubens and Marty Callner, who will direct this new HBO special and directed the 1981 HBO special “The Pee-wee Herman Show.” Callner’s previous HBO credits include comedy specials starring Will Ferrell, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, George Carlin and Robin Williams.

Credits for the Broadway presentation of “The Pee-wee Herman Show”: production created and conceived by Paul Reubens; written by Paul Reubens and Bill Steinkellner; additional material by John Paragon; music by Jay Cotton; directed by Alex Timbers; based on the original “The Pee-wee Herman Show” by Paul Reubens, Bill Steinkellner, Phil Hartman, John Paragon, Edie McClurg, John Moody, Lynne Marie Stewart, Ivan Flores, Brian Seff, Monica Ganas, Tito Larriva. David Korins’ production design is based on the original “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” production design by Gary Panter. Cristina Waltz’s make-up design is based on the original “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” by Ve Neill and the costume design is by Ann Closs-Farley.

The character of Pee-wee Herman is experiencing a remarkable renaissance, with enormous followings on Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare. Renowned writer-director-producer Judd Apatow recently announced that he and Reubens are developing a new feature film based on the character.

Paul Reubens’ other credits include the TV series “30 Rock,” “Pushing Daisies,” “Reno 911!,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Family Guy” and “Murphy Brown” (which earned him an Emmy® nomination), and the feature films “Mystery Men,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Blow,” “Life During Wartime,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and the upcoming “Nailed.”

Resident Evil: Afterlife will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on December 28, 2010. The film was written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, and starring Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Kim Coates, Shawn Roberts, Spencer Locke, Boris Kodjoe, and Wentworth Miller. It is the fourth installment in a series of film adaptations based loosely on Capcom's survival horror video game series Resident Evil. It is also the first film in the series to be released in 3D. In the film Alice searches for and rescues remaining survivors in Los Angeles of the T-virus outbreak, who team up against Albert Wesker, the head of the Umbrella Corporation. Elements from the video game Resident Evil 5 were incorporated into the film. Chris Redfield, a primary character from the video games was featured for the first time in the film franchise. Other characters from the games and films who return are: Claire Redfield, Albert Wesker, and Jill Valentine.

After the events of Resident Evil: Extinction, the Alice clones (Milla Jovovich) attempt to kill Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts) at his base in Tokyo. All present clones are killed in an explosion, activated by Wesker as he escapes in an aircraft. The original Alice ambushes him, but Wesker injects her with a serum that neutralizes the T-virus in her system, eliminating her superhuman powers and making her human again. He reveals that his T-Virus powers have surpassed her own, but before he can kill her, the aircraft crashes and Alice emerges from the wreckage.

Six months later, Alice follows a repeating emergency broadcast from a survivors' safe haven known as "Arcadia" in Alaska. After many fruitless months searching for Arcadia and finding no survivors along the way, including her friends Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and K-Mart (Spencer Locke), Alice begins to lose hope, believing herself to be the last surviving human on the planet. Stopping on an abandoned beach, Alice finds the helicopter taken by Claire and the others when they and Alice parted ways. A crazed Claire, under the influence of an Umbrella Corporation device attached to her chest, attacks her. Alice removes the device, finding that it has damaged Claire's memory, which she slowly regains.

Flying a two-person plane, they enter the ruins of Los Angeles and find a small group of survivors, led by Luther West (Boris Kodjoe) living in a maximum security prison, surrounded by the undead. Alice crash lands the plane on the roof of the prison and learns that Arcadia is not a fixed place but actually a cargo tanker traveling along the coast. Since the plane cannot take more than two, Alice and the survivors try to figure out a means to make it to Arcadia together. The survivors have been keeping watch on a prisoner, Claire's brother Chris (Wentworth Miller), whom they found locked in a maximum security cell when they arrived. He says that he is a soldier who fought the early outbreak, but was locked up by prisoners as a cruel joke when the mission failed and knows a way to reach the coast, and thereby Arcadia, but will not reveal it unless he is released.

They do not believe him, and keep him locked up until the undead manage to tunnel through the sewer ways and up into the prison, and a giant axe wielding monster (The Executioner) starts to break down the front gate; Alice and survivors are out of time to find a means to reach Arcadia so they decide to free Chris and use his escape route. He recognizes Claire and reveals himself as her brother, though she does not remember him. Chris' proposes using a military vehicle, stored somewhere in the prison. Discovering the vehicle is not operational Bennett uses the plane to escape. The remaining group has no option but to use the sewer tunnel. The group fights their way out — Luther is trapped when the tunnel caves in - Alice, Claire, and Chris manage to escape through the sewers.

They continue to Arcadia, finding the ship completely functional, but abandoned. Exploring its inner depths, they realize that it is a trap set by Umbrella to lure survivors to the ship to conduct experiments on them. Claire now remembers what happened to her group when they arrived to Alaska: Umbrella ambushed their group when they landed on the beach, attaching the devices to them, though she managed to escape. They release survivors, among them K-Mart, and Alice continues deeper into the ship, finding escape helicopters and a purge bomb. Deeper inward, she finds Wesker, who explains the price of his survival, is a war within himself for control against the T-Virus. He hopes to gain control of the virus by assimilating Alice, the only individual to bond successfully with the T-virus. At this point the crew of the ship had abandoned Wesker, terrified by his cannibalism.

Chris, Claire, and Alice battle the super-powered Wesker and seemingly kill him, with help from a recovered K-Mart. Wesker does not die, but rather regenerates and escapes by helicopter, activating the purge bomb on the Arcadia in an attempt to destroy the ship and kill the remaining survivors. Anticipating Wesker's actions, Alice had hidden the bomb onboard his helicopter, which is destroyed as she watches from the deck of the Arcadia, with Claire and Chris. Momentarily blinded by the flash from the explosion, a figure parachutes away from the destruction unnoticed. Elsewhere, Luther emerges from the sewers, having escaped his infected attackers.
Alice resolves to turn Arcadia into a real safe haven and broadcasts its message for any other survivors. As Claire, Chris, and Alice decide how to proceed with all the survivors, they see an approaching Umbrella assault fleet led by Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory), who is under the control of the same Umbrella device used on Claire.

Dan Brown To Write The Screenplay For The Lost Symbol Movie

Hanks And Howard Not On Board Yet

Mega-selling mystery author Dan Brown has taken over writing duties on the film adaptation of The Lost Symbol.

Columbia Pictures is developing the film version of Brown's most recent novel, which was published in 2009 and sold more than a million copies in its first day on shelves. In it, Brown's regular protagonist, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, gets mixed up with the Freemasons in Washington, D.C.

The 2006 adaptation of The Da Vinci Code and the 2009 version of Angels & Demons grossed $1.24 billion at the worldwide box office for Sony. But this is the first time Brown has taken on screenwriting duties. Akiva Goldsman penned Da Vinci and co-wrote Demons with David Koepp.

Oscar-nominated Eastern Promises scribe Steven Knight first took a run at the Symbol screenplay. Although Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment is once again producing, Howard, who directed the first two Brown adaptations, has not committed to directing Symbol. Nor has star Tom Hanks officially come on board to reprise Langdon.

Regardless, given the sure-thing built-in audience, Sony is sure to have Symbol in theaters sooner rather than later. With Men in Black III and the Spider-Man reboot already set for summer 2012, here's betting that Brown's latest is on screens the following summer.

Glee's Heather Morris Up For Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Glee's Heather Morris Would Love The Role

McKinley High’s favorite Cheerio has reportedly caught the eye of Hollywood execs – the 23-year-old actress/dancer is being considered for a theatrical reboot of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

“They’re considering me!” Heather told Access, “I found out and I almost peed my pants ‘cause I was so excited!”

The bubbly blonde is such a fan of the stake-wielding heroine that she doesn’t care how large her role is – as long as she gets to be involved.

“If they make [‘Buffy’] when [‘Glee’] is on hiatus, I don’t even care what I do,” Heather laughed. “I can just run through the shot and do nothing – even if I’m not Buffy!”

In this new reboot Buffy will no longer be in high school but instead facing the same hardships that a lot of young college graduates have today in struggling to find a paying job and a healthy relationship.

Starring Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler and Teresa Palmer, Take Me Home Tonight is a raunchy, romantic and ultimately touching blast from the past set to an awesome soundtrack of timeless rock and hip-hop hits.

Recent MIT grad Matt Franklin (Topher Grace) should be working for a Fortune 500 company and starting his upward climb to full-fledged yuppie-hood. Instead, the directionless 23-year-old confounds family and friends by taking a part-time job behind the counter of a video store at the Sherman Oaks Galleria.

But Matt’s silent protest against maturity comes to a screeching halt once his unrequited high school crush, Tori Frederking (Teresa Palmer), walks into the store. When she invites him to an epic, end-of-summer party, Matt thinks he finally might have a chance with the girl of his dreams. With his cynical twin sister Wendy (Anna Faris) and best friend Barry (Dan Fogler), Matt embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime evening. From stealing a car to a marriage proposal to an indescribable, no-holds-barred dance-off, these friends share experiences that will change the course of their lives on one unforgettable night in the Go-Go ’80s.

From director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) comes the new action thriller PIRANHA 3D. Every year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for Spring Break, a riot of sun and drunken fun. But this year, there's something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers; a new type of terror is about to be cut loose on Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the areas new razor-toothed residents. The film stars Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl), Steven R. McQueen (The Vampire Diaries), Elisabeth Shue, Jerry O'Connell, Ving Rhames, Adam Scott, Richard Dreyfuss, Christopher Lloyd, and Kelly Brook.

Richard Dreyfuss said that he accepted the role only after Bob Weinstein persuaded him by offering the actor a larger salary which Dreyfuss later generously donated to charity. Dreyfuss also stated that the ill-fated character he plays is a parody and a near-reincarnation of Matt Hooper, the character he portrayed in the 1975 film Jaws. Jaws later served as inspiration for the parody film entitled Piranha. The song the character in Piranha 3-D listens to on the radio on his boat is "Show Me the Way to Go Home", which Richard Dreyfuss, Roy Scheider and Robert Shaw sing together in Jaws.

His enhanced abilities soon attract shadowy forces that threaten his new life in this darkly comic and provocative film.

Aspiring author Eddie Morra (Cooper) is suffering from chronic writer’s block, but his life changes instantly when an old friend introduces him to NZT, a revolutionary new pharmaceutical that allows him to tap his full potential. Soon Eddie takes Wall Street by storm, parlaying a small stake into millions. His accomplishments catch the eye of mega-mogul Carl Van Loon (De Niro), who invites him to help broker the largest merger in corporate history. But they also bring Eddie to the attention of people willing to do anything to get their hands on his stash of NZT. About Last Night Remake

Oh No!

Watch out all you 80's movies Remakes are coming after you and you have nowhere to hide. About Last Night your turn maybe up next.

EW has learned Screen Gems is considering whether to remake the romantic comedy that starred Rob Lowe and Demi Moore. To be honest I am a fan of this film, couldn't tell you why but I am. Ok enough about me, onto the news.

There’s no script at this point, much less a pair of actors who have agreed to fill the roles of a young man and woman who are attempting to date despite their personal issues and disapproving friends. (For your consideration, Screen Gems: We’d like to nominate Mila Kunis and Chris Pine!). But the interest is definitely there to dust off the movie and remake it for today’s audiences, insiders confirm.

The original flick was directed by Edward Zwick and based on the 1974 David Mamet play Sexual Perversity in Chicago. It also starred James Belushi and Elizabeth Perkins.

If you don't remember the movie I added the original Trailer.

Watch it after the Jump..

Lowe continues to hold the film, which grossed north of $38 million, in high regard. When asked by EW in May to identify his five favorite roles, he ranked Night’s Danny Martin at No. 2. “It holds up really well,” he told EW. “It had a great pedigree, it was a David Mamet play adaptation, and it was funny and sexy.”

Tron: Legacy Box Office Winner

Tron: Legacy Wins Box Office

'Yogi Bear' debuts at No. 2 as awards frontrunners 'Fighter' and 'Swan' also impress, but all-star 'How Do You Know' falters at No. 8.

Disney's 3D Tron: Legacy sped to the top of the domestic box office in opening to $43.6 million from 3,451 theaters, but the weekend was soft overall and studio titles will need strong holiday biz to come out ahead. Read my review of the film Here.

Overseas, Tron rolled out in about half of all territories, grossing $23 million for a worldwide debut of $66.6 million. Imax theaters supplied a record proportion of the gross, including 25% in the U.S.

Warner Bros.' 3D family entry Yogi Bear opened to $16.7 million from 3,515 domestically to place No. 2. The CG/live-action hybrid had been expected to open at $20 million.

There was no shortage of 3D movies. Coming in No. 3 was 20th Century Fox and Walden Media's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which fell 48% to $12.4 million from 3,555 runs for a new domestic cume of $42.8 million. Overseas, Narnia won the weekend with $29.9 million for a worldwide gross of $166.8 million.

While Tron and Yogi hope for strong midweek traffic as the Christmas session gets into full swing, there's much less hope for Sony's How Do You Know, which opened to a paltry $7.6 million from 2,483 theaters.

The film, directed by James L. Brooks and costing $100 million to make, with rebates, placed No. 8.

Sony didn't even try to hide its disappointment over the fact that How Do You Know -- with an A-list cast led by Reese Witherspoon -- was beat out by Paramount/Relativity Media's The Fighter and Fox Searchlight's Black Swan, both made outside the studio system and for far less money.

The Fighter, which Relativity fully financed and produced, grossed $12.2 million as it expanded to 2,503 theaters after opening the weekend before in N.Y. and Los Angeles. The boxing drama, distributed and marketed by Paramount, came in a pleasing No. 4 and earned a A- rating from CinemaScore.

After a less-than-hoped-for opening, Sony/GK Films' holdover The Tourist fell 50% in its second weekend to $8.7 million for a cume of $30.8 million. It placed No. 5.

Disney's Tangled virtually tied with The Tourist in its fourth weekend for a domestic cume of $127.8 million.

Directed by Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan came in No. 7, grossing $8.3 million from only 959 theaters. Psycho-sexual drama is playing strongest on the East Coast, but did unexpectedly well in markets including Miami.

Biggest segment of Black Swan's audience was between the ages of 18-35. The film is playing more evenly among the genders than expected, with females making up 53% or 54% of the audience, according to anecdotal evidence.

Fighter and Black Swan are both awards favorite, as is the Weinstein Co.'s The King's Speech, which scored the highest per screen average of the weekend. King's Speech grossed $1.1 million as it expanded into a total of 43 theaters for a location average of $25,000 and cume of $2.9 million.

All three pictures were buoyed by multiple Golden Globe nominations, announced last week. The Tourist also scored top acting nods. King's Speech led with seven nominations.

Lionsgate's awards contender Rabbit Hole saw a moderate opening, grossing $55,000 from five locations in N.Y., L.A. and Toronto for a per screen average of $11,000, in line with the company's opening weekend numbers for Away From Her.

ATO Pictures' awards offering Casino Jack grossed $35,000 in its debut on seven screens in N.Y. and L.A. for a screen average of $5,000.

The refrain was the same Sunday as distributors discussed the crowded pack of holiday films: The true test comes over the next two weeks, as kids are sprung from school and adults wrap up Christmas preparations.

Tron's challenge will be to lure younger fanboys, since the vast majority of opening weekend moviegoers were between the ages of 18 and 55, many of whom were diehard fans of the original. About 55% of the audience was couples.

"All the fans of the first movie are bringing a girlfriend or wife to share the experience with," Disney worldwide president of distribution Chuck Viane said. "But the blend of the audience will get younger."

A year ago, Fox's Avatar debuted to $77 million, but Disney had no illusions that Tron could match that number, since it is fueled by fanboys and less an all-audience title.

But Tron was an expensive proposition for Disney, costing nearly $170 million to produce. Event pic drew a B+ from CinemaScore, although younger audiences gave it an A-.

Domestically, Imax theaters rang up $10.3 million -- or 25% of the entire Tron gross. That's a record proportion for the large-format exhibitor.

"Disney's Tron and the Imax experience clearly resonated with our core audience," Imax Theaters' Greg Foster said.

Yogi Bear drew a B CinemaScore. Warner exec vice president of distribution Jeff Goldstein said the picture will begin benefiting as more and more kids are out of school this week. While theater traffic lightens up Christmas Eve and Christmas morning, family attendance shoots up after that.

"From Christmas Day forward is when we really take off," Goldstein said.

Yogi will have to compete with 20th Century Fox's 3D family pic Gulliver's Travels, which debuts Dec. 25.

If Tron drew an older audience than expected on opening weekend, The Fighter drew a healthy number of females, who represented 53% of all those buying tickets. A full 87% of the audience was over the age of 25.

Paramount vice chair Rob Moore said The Fighter -- toplining Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Melissa Leo and Amy Adams -- is poised to have lasting playability, taking into account the film's great reviews and CinemaScore.

"These are the kinds of movies opening over Christmas that ultimately play to six, seven or eight multiples," Moore said.

The poorly reviewed How Do You Know played heavily to women, or 60%. Audience also was distinctly older, with 55% over the age of 30.

"The opening is disappointing. Everyone worked hard on this film and really believed in it," Sony worldwide president of distribution Rory Bruer said.

Sony may be ending 2010 on a sour note, but the rest of the year was otherwise strong for the studio in terms of box office performance.

Weekend was down about 3% from the same frame last year.
