Will Smith The Legend Of Cain

Will Smith To Play Bad Boy Cain

Will Smith has attached himself to star in and produce The Legend Of Cain, an epic re-telling of the Biblical sibling tale, this time with a vampiric twist. Smith will play Cain, the original Bad Boy, and he will produce with Overbrook Entertainment partners Jada Pinkett Smith (his wife), James Lassiter, and Ken Stovitz.

The script was written by Caleeb Pinkett and Dan Knauf, with Andrea Berloff revising. No studio or director yet for the Overbrook project. The production company is coming off The Karate Kid, which has so far grossed more that. $210 million worldwide. Smith is currently promoting that film internationally and in August he begins filming Men In Black 3.

Ghost Rider 2 Is Confirmed

Ghost Rider 2 Is Confirmed

Looks like you don't have a choice, they are going to be making a Ghost Rider 2 starring Nicolas Cage is going to be made, and it's been confirmed that Crank directors Neveldine and Taylor will direct the film. The confirmation came from Nic Cage himself on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson. He told ferguson that "there's gonna be a new one," and that he "just made the deal today."

I didn't think the first film was that bad but definitely not great by any means. Neveldine and Taylor are the guys behind the high impact films Crank and Crank 2.

The sequel to the film is tentatively called Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

Cars Spin-Off Called "Planes"

Cars Spin-Off Called "Planes"

Cars may not have been Pixar’s biggest moneymaker when it was released in theaters, but the franchise has been a monster hit when it comes to merchandise, raking in several billion dollars in a relatively under-the-radar fashion. Next summer’s release of Cars 2 should boost that figure even further, but then again, kids may be in no rush to replace the Lightning McQueen plush toy they already bought back in 2006. How do you refresh the brand? With planes, of course.

Pixar is currently developing Planes as a semi-sequel and spinoff franchise to Cars, one meant to take advantage of the enormously lucrative direct-to-video market. It’s a format that Pixar has flirted with before Toy Story 2 was once meant to go direct to video, and Toy Story 3 was originally developed for DVD in a semi-unauthorized fashion by Disney before Pixar head John Lasseter took over the company — but with Planes, Pixar could leverage the Cars brand without diluting its bigscreen appeal.

That’s a priority for Lasseter, who took the reins at Disney after an era where the company cranked out uninspired DTV sequels to some of its most beloved properties (Cinderella II and The Lion King 1 1/2, anyone?). Then again, Lasseter may have relaxed Pixar’s early hesitation about getting into the sequel business: in addition to Toy Story 3 this year and Cars 2 next year, 2012 will see a bigscreen follow-up to Monsters, Inc.

Kevin Bacon X-Men: First Class Jennifer Lawrence

Kevin Bacon & Jennifer Lawrence Join Cast Of X-Men: First Class

As Matthew Vaughn prepares to shoot origins pic "X-Men: First Class" for 20th Century Fox, the studio has closed a deal for Kevin Bacon to star as a lead villain.

Fox and Vaughn also have cast Jennifer Lawrence -- currently in theaters in Roadside Attractions' "Winter's Bone" -- as Mystique, the blue mutant shapeshifter who grows up to be a villain. (Rebecca Romijn played Mystique in the first three "X-Men" pics.)

Studio is remaining tight-lipped about Bacon's role, though some fanboy websites have suggested he might play Mister Sinister.

"First Class" toplines James MacAvoy and Michael Fassbender as a young Charles Xavier and a young Erik Lensherr (Magneto), respectively. The origins story, conceived by Bryan Singer and penned by Jane Goldsman, follows MacAvoy and Fassbender as young men discovering their powers.

INCEPTION Review by Windy City Gal

Inception,” directed by Christopher Nolan (“The Dark Night”) and starring Leonardo DiCaprio (“Shutter Island), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (“500 Days of Summer) and Ellen Page (“Juno”) is a trippy, futuristic story where people have the ability to insert themselves into people’s dreams to extract or add information.

Cobb (DiCaprio), a skilled extractor who is desperate to get home to his children, takes on one last job that will free him from the fugitive lifestyle he’s earned as a dream-thief. However, this job requires inception, or adding information to one’s mind - the most dangerous and tricky skill in dream invasion.

To complete this task, DiCaprio works with a dream architect (Page) to develop the perfect setting for inception and joins forces with his usual cohort (Gordon-Levitt), a chemist and other invaluable team members.

The inception takes the team on an around-the-world journey, both in life and in dreams, full of death, risk and rotating rooms. Though inception itself is difficult, it becomes even riskier when Ariadne (Page) learns Cobb has deep-rooted, dangerous dreams that follow him on his jobs.

Though the effects and dialogue are captivating, there is one glaring issue with the film. The subject of inception, Robert Fischer Jr. (Cillian Murphy), has been trained to avoid dream thieves, but still believes the farce Cobb and his team present to him all too easily. Was this a fault of the writing, the plot, or the acting? I am not sure, but it fell out of step with the believability of the other characters.

Overall, Nolan creates a mind-boggling, eye-gripping version of what dreams might look like to an open human eye and writes dialogue that perfectly explains to an audience a very complicated topic.

In the end, Inception is a revolutionary film along the lines of The Matrix. Cutting edge special effects and storyline make Inception definitely worth a viewing. Make sure you have a LARGE screen.

Mark Ruffalo To Change Into The Hulk For Avengers Film

Mark Ruffalo To Change Into The Hulk For Avengers Film

Imagine the Hollywood actor whom you'd least expect to play The Incredible Hulk in The Avengers, and maybe, just maybe, you'd come up with the name of Mark Ruffalo. He's always been an actor's actor and is getting critical raves in Focus Features' The Kids Are All Right which opened last weekend. But I've learned that he's now in late-stage discussions between Marvel and his brand-new agency United Talent to play this key member of The Avengers ensemble. Like Edward Norton, whom he'd be replacing, Ruffalo would bring real chops to the role. But, unlike Edward Norton, he wouldn't an on-set asshole.

Meanwhile, let me get out of the way that Thor (May 6, 2011) and Captain America (July 22, 2011) will be in 3D. They were filmed in 2D but the plan has been for the visual effects to be rendered in 3D for Captain America while Thor will undergo more of a traditional conversion. Kevin Feige is going to great lengths to ensure this isn't just a botched rush job.

No Termination By Jonathan Cyfer

No Termination
By Jonathan Cyfer

Terminate: coming to an end or capable of ending -Merriam-Webster Dictionary

25 years have elapsed between the dawning of Skynet in the original Terminator film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as everyone's favorite T-101 and Terminator Salvation starring Christian Bale as the once and future Messiah John Connor. The first three films revolved around a series of beings (one human and the rest terminators) being sent back in time to prevent John Connor from becoming the leader of the human resistance in the 21st century and destroying Skynet. Of course, Skynet's plan never worked. Even though Reese (in the original film) states that only he and the terminator were sent to the past before the time machine was destroyed, somehow, other time machines kept turning up and Skynet kept developing more advanced prototypes to send back in time to try and off Connor. After Reese bought the farm in the first film, the best the resistance could do was keep recycling Schwarzenegger to fight against the odds and save Connor and the future.

After the third film, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), I thought the franchise had come to a quiet end. At that point, Arnold was 56 years old, and getting a little long in the tooth to play a super-muscular, kick-ass killing machine from the future (he was 37 when the first film was released). "Rise of the Machines" wasn't that great of a film (a problem with sequels) and anyway, it wasn't written and directed by James Cameron. To quote Sarah from the first film as applied to the franchise, "You're terminated, f*cker!"
But she was wrong and so was I.

Every time Sarah thought the terminator was gone forever, another one (or two) was sent back in time to stir up problems. Just when we thought the Terminator franchise was over, out pops “Terminator Salvation”.
It wasn't a great film, but it was watchable, and Christian Bale always adds a great deal of intensity to any role he plays (as well as the intensity of his off camera behavior). Initially, I was disappointed that the fourth film didn't bring us full circle, with John sending Kyle Reese back into the past to save his mother but then, there's more money to be squeezed from the old, metal skeleton of the terminators, yet. Proof of that is in the announcement of Terminator 5, scheduled for a 2012 release (assuming the Mayans aren't right). Like Star Wars, years after the first trilogy came and went, a second trilogy is launched. Like Star Wars, the first film of the second trilogy was nothing to write home about, but the Terminator story is compelling enough to keep us coming back to see what happens next (though in my case, I couldn't generate enough interest until the film was released on DVD)

Time travel scenarios, especially when used repeatedly, have a tendency to get muddy fast. In the first film, Reese said only he and the T-101 came through. The time machine was then supposed to be smashed (Reese couldn't have witnessed this because he had already been sent back in time). No more visitors from the future. But the first film, made on a limited budget and probably expected to be a one-shot wonder, became a cult classic, so enough money was drummed up for the sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). If you've seen all the films and were paying attention, you probably noticed that dates for events subtly changed. By the time of the third film, the war should already have happened. John's age and date of birth also kept changing. We can (or at least I can) assume that, with each time travel event, the two entities from the future changed something in the past resulting a shifting of events in the timeline. The one thing that could never be changed though is Judgment Day. The war was going to happen. The war will always happen. So much for "The future's not set...we have no fate but what we make." The only future that's not set is how many sequels there will be in the franchise, how much money there is to make, and how well or poorly the films will be received.

My personal opinion is that Terminator 2 was the best of the lot, but I have a soft spot for the original Terminator. It was the only film where Schwarzenegger plays the bad guy. It had limited production values. It was based on two of my favorite Harlan Ellison stories: Jonny Quest series, also from the 1960s. The plots were repetitive, people from India really can't do magic, but it was and is a lot of fun to watch.
One thing about nostalgia and a franchise with a foundation in classic science fiction is that it's tough to terminate once you get it going. What might help “Terminator 5” and any other sequels escape the so-so performance of the 2009 film is returning to some of the basics I previously mentioned. The Terminator story is a story about time travel. Maybe whoever is responsible for the fifth film should take a small trip into the past, this time by reading some older sci-fi and viewing a few classic films and TV series, and re-discovering what made the Terminator so attractive in the first place. Hint: It wasn't just special effects and "name" actors.
Afterword: I omitted The Sarah Connor Chronicles for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, I've never watched a single episode, which makes it hard to review. Also, from reading the summary of the series, it takes the tenuous history of the future and stirs it up in a blender, probably screwing up whatever continuity that may be left in the films. We have a story in a loop that needs closing. The fifth and sixth films need to do that with the rise of John Connor, the journey of Kyle Reese, and the final termination of Skynet.

If you can hear this, you are the resistance.

Disney To A Make Gargoyles Fim

Disney To Make A Gargoyles Fim And Not The One Your Thinking Of

Zoe Green is in final negotiations with the Mouse House to pen a screenplay based on an original idea developed by Lauren Shuler Donner, who will produce the live-action film for Disney.

The project is not tied to "Gargoyles," the popular animated TV series that Disney produced in the 1990s, or a comicbook that was later produced by series creator Greg Weisman.

Instead, it centers around a world and mythology of the menacing stone statues that the studio was keen to explore, sources said. Both Disney and Shuler Donner were circling separate gargoyle projects and ultimately paired up and hired Green to tackle an idea hatched with Disney exec LouAnne Brickhouse, who is shepherding the project at the studio. Shuler Donner will produce through the Donners' Co., which she runs with husband Richard Donner.

Project would fit in well with the high-profile projects Disney is looking to produce these days -- films that can become franchises at the megaplex and spin off popular videogames, merchandise, TV shows and theme park rides.

A bigscreen version of the "Gargoyles" series was being developed in 1996 with Weisman, show producer Frank Paur and Dean Devlin. But the right take never received a greenlight.

Green has a penchant for penning fantasy fare. She's written "Tigress" for Stan Lee's POW! Entertainment, based on the Disney lot. Pic follows a woman who starts getting tiger-like instincts. Robert Teitel and George Tillman Jr. of State Street Pictures are producers on the project.

Scribe is also tackling the script for Syfy miniseries "The Diamond Age," an adaptation of Neal Stephenson's 1995 novel "The Diamond Age: Or a Young Lady's Illustrated Primer," that George Clooney and Grant Heslov are producing. She has also written for the animated series "Wolverine and the X-Men."

Dave Prowse Banned From Lucasfilm Events

Vader Banned By Lucas Films

The man behind the mask of Vader will not be able to appear at any Lucasfilm's related event now or in the near future.

He better book a flight to Comic-Con now since Celebration V is out of the picture.

This is a statement released on Dave Prowse's website:

Dave is not appearing at Celebration V

It is with regret that I have been informed by my friends at C2 Ventures, Ben and Phillip, that I am not to be invited to C5 this year or any other Lucas Film associated events. After inquiring, the only thing I have been told is that I have "burnt too many bridges between Lucas Film and myself" - no other reason given.

I have also been advised by the promoter of Paris Manga in September that LFL have requested no photo opportunities with the 501 Squadron, even though I am commander in chief of the 501.

Sincere apologies to all my fans who were hoping to meet with me - I shall miss you too. As you will see from my events page I will be at many conventions all over the world so we can still keep in touch.

I have dug up a gem that may have started it all.  Vader crying like a BABY.

His issue is that he has not received residual payments for Return of the Jedi because producers told him that it has not made a profit.

“I get these occasional letters from Lucasfilm saying that we regret to inform you that as Return of the Jedi has never gone into profit, we’ve got nothing to send you. Now here we’re talking about one of the biggest releases of all time.”

Friends of Prowse said that the letter informing him that Return of the Jedi had not made a profit was referring to the special edition. Under the terms of his contract, he would be entitled to a percentage of cinema takings once the film had exceeded its production costs. The expense of adding new footage to Return of the Jedi for the special edition is not clear.

It is amazing that these actors would mess up such a good thing. Keep your mouth shut and you will never have to work a day in your life again.

This guys goes to every convention he can get his hands on and signs his signature on a picture and makes anything from $20-30 a autograph. Dream job right.

I keep on telling my wife and friends, that if I could just get a simple role on anything related to Star Wars I would  never have to work again.

I'd whore myself out to every convention big or small and sign autographs and say "What a great guy George is," even though I have never met him and sign away. How can you screw up such a good thing?

All I have to say is Douche!!

The Expendables Fan Made "Ballsy" Trailer

The Expendables Fan Made "Ballsy" Trailer

This fan made trailer is Ballsy! The trailer is pretty much telling you to be a man and be Ballsy and forget about the chick flicks out there. And they have their target set on  Julia Robert's new film Eat Pray Love, which opens up the same day as The Expendables, August 13th.

Watch the trailer after the Jump..

Editing some of the more exciting footage from "The Expendables" to Andrew W.K.'s "I Get Wet" actually gives the whole enterprise a perverse twist. Then again, if you're into what "The Expendables" has to offer, do you need to be sold any further? This isn't "Rambo," which only had Stallone's biceps to appeal to audiences who ended up selecting "Meet the Spartans" as their top film choice in that film's debut weekend. This is an entire generation of older action stars finally coming together, and is that not what everyone's been waiting for? Plus, Stallone the auteur has got to be our choice when matched up against "Eat Pray Love"'s Murphy, who previously helmed the unwatchable "Running With Scissors." We'll take "Rhinestone" over that one any day.

First Looks: Taylor Lautner In Abduction

First Looks At Taylor Lautner In "Abduction"

Is Taylor Lautner channeling his inner Maverick? Or is he trying to be the new Fonz?  Either way the ladies are screaming and want more.  Maybe the next pictures we see will be him shirtless. How about the ladies?

These are the first set photos from Lautner's upcoming film "Abduction" The film is being shot in Pittsburgh as we speak. He is filming a scene that reminds me of Maverick or Iceman from Top Gun with those mirrored aviator glasses.

Take a look at the set photos after the Jump...

Abduction , the Lionsgate action flick stars Taylor Lautner, Sigourney Weaver, Maria Bello, Lily Collins, Elisabeth Rohm and Alfred Molina. To be directed by John Singleton,  "Abduction"written by Shawn Christensen, centered on “a teen who has long felt disconnected from his parents, and figures out why, which unleashes a chain of violent events” the teen (Lautner) feels disconnected from his parents…the story “is focused on a young man who discovers his own baby picture on a missing persons website”. He was kidnapped as a child but after he reaches out to his real parents, he’s forced to run for his life.

Mission Impossible 4 To Be Reworked

Mission Impossible 4 To Be Reworked

Brad Bird (The Incredibles and Ratatouille) is currently prepping to helm Paramount's Mission: Impossible IV for producer J.J. Abrams, with Tom Cruise starring. Now it seems that Paramount wants to rework the film and determine the budget of the film because of the lack luster performance of Tom Cruise's latest film Knight and Day. After more than 2 weeks of being in theaters Knight And Day has only made $61 million so far domestically, and rememebr the budget was around 120 million. I truly enjoyed the film and would recommend it to anyone.

There's talk that Tom's character will mentor a young operative this time out if the pic proceeds.

Bennett Miller is directing the project, written by Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin, which starts shooting in L.A. next week. Scott Rudin, Michael De Luca and Rachel Horovitz are producing.

Morris has starred on the CBS procedural “Cold Case” for seven seasons. She has also appeared in the features “Minority Report,” “Resurrecting the Champ” and “Paycheck.”

Edward Norton Address "The Hulk" Controversy And Not Reprising His Role

Edward Norton Address "The Hulk" Controversy And Not Reprising His Role

What a few days it has been with the news breaking that Edward Norton would not be returning to reprise his role as The Hulk in the upcoming "Avengers" film. We got responses from the studio and from Norton's agent. But nothing from Norton until now.

"The Incredible Hulk" star Edward Norton released a statement on his Facebook page about how he won't be involved with Marvel's upcoming "Avengers" movie.

As most of you know, I don't like to talk much about the business of making movies because it means a lot to me to protect the audience's fullest enjoyment of the 'magic' that films can have. But I am so appreciative of the outpouring of support from fans of the Hulk and the Avengers that I feel it would be rude not to respond. So here goes: It seems it won't work out for me to continue playing Bruce Banner for Marvel in "The Avengers." I sincerely hoped it could happen and be great for everyone but it hasn't turned out as we all hoped. I know this is disappointing to many people and that makes me sad. But I am very sincerely grateful to Marvel for extending the offer and even more so for giving me the chance to be a part of the Hulk's long and excellent history. And I really can't thank the fans enough for how much enthusiasm you've sent me way about what Louis and I tried to do in our turn with the legend. It means a lot to me. I grew up with Banner and Hulk and have been a fan of every incarnation. I'm really proud, and very blessed, to have been one of them and will be thrilled to see him live on through other actors. Hulk is bigger than all of us, that's why we love him, right?

Edward Norton

On Friday, it was revealed that Marvel had ended negotiations with Norton to reprise his role as Bruce Banner in Joss Whedon's "The Avengers" over creative/professional differences, as opposed to a salary dispute.

Marvel chief Kevin Feige said in a statement on Saturday: "Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members." By suggesting that "The Avengers" "demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble," Feige seemed to be implying that Norton wasn't a team player.

On Sunday, Norton's agent, Brian Swardstrom of WME, responded by calling Feige's statement "offensive," "purposefully misleading," "inappropriate," "mean spirited" and "accusatory."

Consumer Reports iPhone 4 Bad News

Duct Tape To Save The iPhone 4

This has just reassured me not to even bother with the iPhone 4 until at least the second generation comes out. So whats next for Apple when it comes to fixing the problem with the phone?

Consumer Reports has just finished up its lab tests on the iPhone 4, and the results do not reflect well on Apple. According to the publication, the iPhone 4 is more prone to signal-strength issues than other smartphones. What’s more, those issues are likely not related to faulty software, as Apple claims.

After testing three iPhone 4 handsets purchased from three New York-area retailers, the magazine concluded signal strength is degraded when the device is held in a manner in which its external antennas are bridged.

“There is a problem with its reception,” the publication explains. “When your finger or hand touches a spot on the phone’s lower left side–an easy thing, especially for lefties–the signal can significantly degrade enough to cause you to lose your connection altogether if you’re in an area with a weak signal. Due to this problem, we can’t recommend the iPhone 4.”

That’s quite a change from the publication’s stance earlier this month, when it said that “there’s no reason, at least yet, to forgo buying an iPhone 4 over its reception concerns.”

Evidently, there is now, though Consumer Reports gave the iPhone 4 high marks in other areas, like display quality and battery life.

There is an easy solution for iPhone 4 owners suffering reception problems, the publication notes. Cover the device’s antenna gaps with a piece of duct tape. “It may not be pretty, but it works,” CR says, adding, “But Apple needs to come up with a permanent–and free–fix for the antenna problem before we can recommend the iPhone 4.”

But in the end, does that recommendation even matter? And will its absence hurt sales? At this point, the antenna issue does not appear to be impacting demand for iPhone 4.

New Machete Trailer Delivers

New Machete Trailer Delivers

While the illegal trailer was entertaining, we got our hands on the official trailer that is attached to the upcoming Predators film.

From the looks of this trailer, Rodriguez has plumped for pure explosive entertainment, which is no bad thing given the subject matter and the cast. Can the idea of Trejo as a blade-wielding warrior maintain an entire film?

Watch the trailer after the Jump..

The highly skilled Federale Machete is hired by some unsavory types to assassinate a senator. But just as he's about to take the shot, he notices someone aiming at him and realizes he's been set up. He barely survives the sniper's bullet, and is soon out for revenge on his former employers, with the reluctant assistance of his old friend Cheech Marin, who has become a priest and taken a vow of nonviolence. If you hire him to take out the bad guys, make sure the bad guys aren't you!

Exclusive Transformers 3 Set Photos By: Windy

Exclusive Transformers 3 Set Photos
By: Windy

Our very own Tracy has got us some  Exclusive set photos from the upcoming Transformers 3 set.

Head over to her site to view the rest of the pictures and her exclusive story. And stop by on Twitter and thank her for the Exclusive photos.

As you may have seen me tweet earlier in the week, Chicago was given advance notice of street closures due to the filming of "Transformers 3" in the business district.

So, I grabbed my camera and headed out. The streets where filming takes place are blocked off at least one block away on all sides and filming goes on for about a mile straight. Catching the actors (Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel) is tricky. There are no robots to be seen, but the cars that turn into Transformers are roaming the streets (check out the picture below)! I'm still looking for Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee... Oh, and with some sleuth city maneuvering, I found the hidden trailer lot.

Apparently LaSalle street is being "blown up" from Lake to Adams. That's the entire length of the center of our downtown district!

Below are pictures I took over the weekend. I might get out to catch some more filming, but for now, enjoy the destruction of downtown Chicago. (P.S. In the early morning hours on July 10th, three base jumpers flew off of the Sears/Willis Tower with helicopters filming overhead. I was sound asleep, but would have loved to see that!)

Look! It's an actual Transformer car. License plate: TFORMER1 (From the looks of the car it appears to be a Mazda RX-8?) Thanks to Chris and elguapo1 from Latinoreview for the help. Which Autobot is this?
