Justice League's “Tactical Batsuit” Revealed

Director Zack Snyder has revealed a new look at Batman's tactical Batsuit, the first time we've seen it on Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne. See more images after the Jump... Alfred and Bruce develop an advanced suit in the “final chapter” of this story to fit the needs of the mission. This suit isn’t going to be used in filming for another two months so we only got to see a very early prototype of it alongside concept art. Described as “the tactical Batsuit,” it looks very much like the classic Batsuit augmented with straps and layers of leather and protective plates. A new cowl allows for flight goggles which he’ll wear when piloting a new vehicle. The straps look more military grade. I don’t love it. The cowl offers more protection in this story. It’s been implied inside the cowl there is a whole sub-membrane that is now expressed outside the cowl. Also, Snyder has embraced non-symmetry, giving Batman extra protection on one arm over another, making the uniform lo

#TheJungleBook Opens Huge

Disney's crusade to turn its animated properties into live-action movies has largely been a successful one, and that continues with Jon Favreau's new version of The Jungle Book , which has opened to $103.5 million in the States, according to studio estimates. That's a healthy start for the film, which carried a reported $175 million production budget and cost a fair chunk on top of that to market. But with overseas openings also showing strong returns, the movie is already past $290 million worldwide. Audiences seem to be embracing the immersive CG aesthetic, which uses digital technology to conjure everything but Neel Sethi's Mowgli and one or two tiny chunks of the jungle. With an "A" CinemaScore and some glowing reviews, expect this one to stay healthy for a while. Comedy sequel Barbershop: The Next Cut (the first in the series since 2004's Back In Business and 2005's spin-off Beauty Shop ) couldn't quite perform at the same level, ope

Affleck's Solo Batman Film Is Official

It's been pretty much agreed for a long time now that Ben Affleck would make a stand-alone Batman film in which he stars as the version of the Caped Crusader introduced in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice . Now Warner Bros. has made it officially official, announcing the film at its CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas. Talk of Affleck working on a Batman film has been going on for a while; at least since last year's San Diego Comic-Con, where reports surfaced that the actor/director was writing a version of the script with DC's Geoff Johns. What could the film cover? No one outside of the core creative team knows for now, though it could involve a match-up between Affleck's Batman and Jared Leto's Joker, or dig into someone else from the hero's sprawling rogue's gallery. And might we see something from before the time of Batman V Superman? It's all just speculation until the announcements start to happen, and we still don't know when the fi

The Boss Takes Down Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

When the actual figures are announced, the final listing might look different, but on studio estimates alone Melissa McCarthy' s new comedy The Boss has slapped down Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and walked of with the US box office crown and $23.48 million The Boss , which McCarthy's husband Ben Falcone co-wrote with Steve Mallory and directed based on a Groundlings character they created) didn't exactly arrive to glowing reviews, but it squeezed past Tammy to become her best solo launch yet. We'll have to wait and see how it holds up – The Jungle Book will all but definitely dethrone it next week, and most of its international release is spread out over the coming months. Warner Bros. and DC's superheroes, meanwhile, fell to second place (but could leap back in a single bound if those final figures do indeed change) with $23.43 million, and dropping 54% in its third weekend. And adjusted for inflation, it has still come in behind Man Of Steel. Still, th

(EXCLUSIVE): #BatmanvSuperman Takes a Huge Hit

Its second-week slide is one of the largest in history. Story by Matt Cummings Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice witnessed a monumental drop in its second week in theaters, marking it as one of the highest declines ever. At 68% (far higher than the traditional 60%), Warner Bros.' tentpole is starting to look like a misfire. After a strong domestic opening of $166m, the pundits were scratching their heads as to how a film with a "B" CinemaScore and a 29% Rotten Tomatoes rating could rake in that much cash. Additionally, Monday ($33m) and Tuesday ($15m) showed strong numbers, possibly indicating a backlash by audiences who wanted to see it for themselves. But as the week wore on, numbers began to decline rapidly, with Thursday offering just $7.7m. This weekend's decline places it with other not-so-great company, including 2015's Fantastic Four (68.2%) and X-Men: The Last Stand (66.9%) The whole free fall obviously should have WB and the Zack S

#BatmanvSuperman Dawn of Justice Takes A Huge Hit

According to Variety “ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ” is still the top contender at the box office, but its second weekend in theaters won’t be quite as victorious as its debut. Warner Bros. and DC’s clash of the superheroes is now tracking for a three-day total of $50 million, down from yesterday’s expected $58 million. “BvS” pulled in $15 million on Friday from 4,256 locations, and it’s expected to hit a cumulative domestic gross of $260 million by Sunday’s end. The first week of the movie took in $209.1 million in the U.S. — the 10th-highest first-week total of all time — with a $166 million opening weekend. Despite the negative reviews, audiences appear to have embraced the film, based both on box office turnout and on social media metrics. Fifty seven percent of the conversation on Twitter following the film’s debut has been positive, according to social media tracking service Fizziology. Less than 10 percent of the tweets about the film have been negative, with the r

(EXCLUSIVE): #BatmanvSuperman Dominates #BoxOffice, But...

...Darkseid might not be this superhero movie's greatest threat after all. Story by Matt Cummings It was a weekend for the box office history books, as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice set several worldwide and domestic records, but slightly under-performed here in the States. Warner Bros on Monday reported that BVSDOJ took in a domestic total of $166m, establishing a new March opening weekend record and the largest Easter opening, besting the $147.1m brought in by Furious 7 last year. It's also the largest opening for a DC Comics film, a record previously held by The Dark Knight Rises ($160.8m). Such a premiere had been a foregone conclusion, based on the extra year Director Zack Snyder took to bring the film to audiences. But with all the celebration at WB's Burbank studios, there's probably a lot of worrying going on. Destroyed by critics (with only a 29% Rotten Tomatoes rating as of this posting) and netting only a "B" CinemaScore,

First Look At #WonderWoman & Her Clan

EW scored the first image from the upcoming Wonder Woman movie. Themyscira is a hidden island where Amazon women of Greek myth have thrived for centuries, living in harmony and free to self-govern away from the gaze of man. It’s also, of course, the birthplace of Wonder Woman, who after years of false starts, is finally a movie star. With a much heralded introduction in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , Wonder Woman ( Gal Gadot ) is now a cornerstone in Warner Bros.’ DC Comics multiverse, with a crucial role in the first Justice League movie (out November 2017), and the center of her own long-awaited film, which will hit screens next June. Directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster), Wonder Woman will be an origin story illustrating the transformation of a young Princess Diana into the greatest female warrior of all time. She will need some help getting there, though. Preparing her for a world of men are three regal women: Diana’s mother, Queen Hippolyta (Gladiator’s Connie Nielsen )

Movie Review: 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'

After a rough start, BVSDOJ serves up a powerful emotional punch. Review by Matt Cummings For a film that has gained so much attention since its year-long delay, expectations for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice couldn't be greater and perhaps more unrealistic. That's perhaps Warner Bros' fault for concocting a tale near the end - rather than at the beginning - of a universe with so much promise. And while the emotional punch of Act 3 is profound, some of the build up is clunky and its mythology doesn't have time to properly develop. It's been nearly two years since Superman (Henry Cavill) and General Zod (Michael Shannon) destroyed much of Metropolis, leaving many to ponder their role in a world where gods do exist. To some like Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and even Batman (Ben Affleck), such forces represent a true evil that must be wiped out. But others aren't so sure, including a mysterious woman (Gal Gadot) and the reporter Lois Lane (Am
