Chris Pratt In Talks To Join Jurassic World

Chris Pratt, who leads next summer’s Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy, is in early talks to star in Jurassic World, Universal’s latest installment of the Jurassic Park movie series.

Pratt would star as the movie’s male lead, a rugged ex-military man, whose foil is the already-cast Bryce Dallas Howard, who plays a smart corporate scientist.

The part was initially earmarked for Josh Brolin, but reports of Brolin’s involvement proved premature as the actor’s talks didn’t get very far. The same could happen here. There is an offer on the table but it's still early going.

Ty Simpkins and Nick Robinson also are part of the cast, playing Howard’s nephews. Colin Trevorrow is directing the movie, which is being produced by Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley.

Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg, who is exec producing, are working in tandem to handpick the actors for the movie.

Pratt may be on the verge of stardom and Jurassic could tip that balance.

The actor has appeared in bit parts in Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty but is best known for being part of the ensemble of NBC’s comedy Parks & Recreation.

He has the potential to become a leading man with his portrayal of Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy. Though the movie is based on a group of lesser-known heroes, it will have massive awareness as it carries the Marvel imprimatur. If Pratt does end up doing Jurassic, it puts Universal in prime position to capitalize on his growing stardom.

Mission: Impossible 5 In Theaters In 2015

Given today’s news, the most dangerous mission that Ethan Hunt and his team will have to accept in Mission: Impossible 5 won’t be facing down dangerous terrorists or clambering across high buildings: it will be surviving the crowded, box office-shredding environment that is the 2015 release schedule. The film, at least in the US, is now scheduled for December 25 of that busy year.

The implications are clear. Director Chris McQuarrie, star / producer Tom Cruise and writer Drew Pearce have a fight on their hands, particularly given that there’s a slightly anticipated sequel set to open just one week before. Yes, Hunt and his crew will be arriving shortly after Star Wars: Episode VII jumps from light speed into cinemas.

Much of what MI:5 will have to offer remains classified beyond knowing the core creative team. Given that McQuarrie has been scouting UK locations and Pearce is writing it, could we see some cheeky team-ups with British security services to make the title work on another level? There has been no indication as to whether Cruise’s colleagues from Ghost Protocol – Simon Pegg, Paula Patton and Jeremy Renner – will be back, or whether M:I veteran Luther Stickell (aka Ving Rhames) will show up again.

"Ghost" TV Show On It's Way

If you can hear the eerie squeaking of a disused potter’s wheel or the haunting strains of Unchained Melody nearby, well… We’re a bit worried about you. It might, however, be because Paramount has decided that Oscar-scooping 1990 supernatural romantic drama Ghost is ripe for a TV adaptation.

Akiva Goldsman (the writer of A Beautiful Mind who has just turned his hand to directing with Winter’s Tale) and Jeff Pinkner (one of the show runners on Fringe, with which Goldsman was also involved) have been hired to start working on ideas for the show.

It'll be based on the tale of Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze in the original), who is murdered in what he believes is a botched robbery. He tries desperately to reconnect with his grieving wife (Demi Moore) while avenging his untimely shuffle off the mortal coil.

How closely the still-embryonic TV version will follow the story remains unclear at this time. But surely there will be room for a version of OTT psychic Oda Mae Brown, which scored Whoopi Goldberg one of the film’s gongs?

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Akiva and Jeff, two deeply creative and accomplished talents, on the television adaptation of this classic supernatural drama,” Paramount TV president Amy Powell said in a statement spirited on to the web by The Wrap.
