Behind the Scenes Of Book Of Eli

Behind the Scenes Of Book Of Eli

Denzel Washington talks about the preparation that went into performing his own stunts and filming the intense fight choreography in 'The Book of Eli.'

In the not-too-distant future, some 30 years after the final war, a solitary man walks across the wasteland that was once America. Empty cities, broken highways, seared earth-all around him, the marks of catastrophic destruction. There is no civilization here, no law. The roads belong to gangs that would murder a man for his shoes, an ounce of water…or for nothing at all.

But they’re no match for this travelerA warrior not by choice but necessity, Eli (Denzel Washington) seeks only peace but, if challenged, will cut his attackers down before they realize their fatal mistake. It’s not his life he guards so fiercely but his hope for the future; a hope he has carried and protected for 30 years and is determined to realize. Driven by this commitment and guided by his belief in something greater than himself, Eli does what he must to survive-and continue.

Only one other man in this ruined world understands the power Eli holds, and is determined to make it his own: Carnegie (Gary Oldman), the self-appointed despot of a makeshift town of thieves and gunmen. Meanwhile, Carnegie’s adopted daughter Solara (Mila Kunis) is fascinated by Eli for another reason: the glimpse he offers of what may exist beyond her stepfather’s domain.

But neither will find it easy to deter him. Nothing-and no one-can stand in his way. Eli must keep moving to fulfill his destiny and bring help to a ravaged humanity.

Twilight:New Moon Review. Better Late Then Never

Twilight:New Moon Review. Better Late Then Never
By-Windy City Gal

I know the review is a few weeks late. But better late then never is what I say.

Want to thank Windy City Gal for another great review and be sure to come back soon for her review on Sherlock Holmes and It's Complicated.

Also Make sure to check out her one of a kind Blog Here.

Author's Note: I am over 30, in a relationship, have no children, and am a self-proclaimed Twi-hard who has seen New Moon five times as of writing this article. Writing a review for "New Moon" is no easy task, as there are two points of view to take: the craftsmanship (i.e. Oscar) point of view, and the Twi-Hard point of view. Therefore, I comment from both perspectives below.
-----

"What I've realized over the last week is I won't necessarily get good reviews for this movie. Having swallowed that, this was made for the fans, and if you don't get it, then you don't get it." - Chris Weitz, Entertainment Weekly

New Moon starts out as a call to Team Edward fans: a slow-motion shot of Edward walking through the high school parking lot, perfect hair, perfect walk, perfect smile, as Bella offers a smile in return that seems to say "God, I love this guy." Team Jacob fans, don't fret. There are many shots aimed right at you (e.g. the famous clip of Jacob taking his shirt off to wipe blood off of Bella's forehead).

Weitz manages to make both the vampires and werewolves realistic enough for Twilight fans, despite reviews claiming otherwise. This film did not have the budget for Avatar-level CGI, and Weitz did the very best possible with what he was given. The fight scenes between the werewolves are enthralling, as is the fight scene with the Volturi (the vampire "Royalty").

Slow-motion is used frequently in the film to capture both the visual complexity of fight scenes and also to add a dramatic effect to emotional scenes such as Bella drowning in the ocean.

The film is well paced as Bella tries to grapple with the reality that Edward has left her, while at the same time trying not to chase her best friend, Jacob, away by showing her grief. Bella's character is not lacking for honesty. She is honest with everyone, including herself, about her feelings. Her three-month scene sitting in her bedroom chair shows her tortured soul as she narrates and writes undeliverable e-mails to Alice explaining her deepest despair: "When you left, when he left, you took everything." There is no doubt that Bella is hurting. Kristen Stewart portrays Bella's depression superbly, particularly during her night mare scenes. Bella is also honest with Jacob, letting him know that she is "broken" and can't be fixed. Jacob, loving Bella as both a friend and more, accepts this reality so he can spend time with her.

When Bella first discovers Jacob is a werewolf (or shapeshifter as noted in the books), thoughts immediately turn to how she can't get a break. She loves a vampire and her best friend is a werewolf. Again, being honest, Bella alludes to this in another narrated e-mail to Alice.

Watching Bella deteriorate into an "adrenaline junkie", one can't help but think that if Edward doesn't return, Bella won't be able to go on. The only thing in her life that makes the hole in her heart feel almost healed is Jacob, and the majority of the movie focuses on their growing friendship and affection for one another.

Victoria, played by Rachelle Lefevre, is re-introduced in this film as the antagonist, looking to avenge her lover's death. The werewolves set out to protect Bella and kill Victoria. One of the best scenes in the film is the chase scene between the wolves and Victoria, set to Thom York's "Hearing Damage." Without a word, Rachelle Lefevre effortlessly (and acrobatically) portrays Victoria's determination to kill Bella.

When Alice returns and Bella sets out with her to save Edward in Italy, is where the movie fails for the book lovers. In the book, on the plane ride to Italy, Alice and Bella have significant bonding time which solidifies their friendship and "sisterhood." On the way home from Italy in the book, Bella spends all night cuddled in Edward's lap, each talking about how much the other means to them, Bella afraid to close her eyes for fear Edward will disappear. Again, this part of the book adds significant weight to the feelings Bella and Edward have for each other. Both of these scenes are left entirely out of the movie, leaving a gaping hole in the strong bond between Bella and the Cullens, particularly Alice and Edward.

This movie affords plenty of screen time for Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the hilarious Billy Burke. However, the Cullens, and particularly Edward, are absent for much of the movie. Some people still aren't sure whether Robert Pattinson can act beyond a sexy stare and a brooding brow. In the next film, Eclipse (out June 30th) , we see much more of his acting, along with the Cullens, and the audience will have a better idea of whether Robert is a pretty face or a pretty face and a good actor.

For those of us who want to know about Robert's acting ability beyond Twilight, look for us in theaters in 2010 watching "Remember Me," "Bel Ami," and (likely) "Unbound Captives." Similarly, Kristen Stewart will appear in "The Yellow Handkerchief," "The Runaways," and "Welcome to the Rileys.'

Charlie Sheen Arrested In An Alleged Domestic Violence Case

Charlie Sheen Arrested In An Alleged Domestic Violence Case

A police spokeswoman in Aspen, Colo., says Charlie Sheen has posted bond and been released from jail hours after he was arrested in an alleged domestic violence case.

Stephanie Dasaro says the "Two and a Half Men" star posted $8,500 bond Friday after speaking with a county judge and was advised on the conditions of his release.

Officers arrested the 44-year-old actor Friday morning after responding to a 911 call from a house in the ski resort town. Sheen was taken into custody for investigation of second-degree assault and menacing, both felonies, along with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

Dasaro declined to name the accuser, citing a department policy prohibiting the identification of potential victims in domestic violence cases.

Sheen's publicist Stan Rosenfield released a statement saying, "It would benefit everyone not to jump to any conclusion."

Charlie Sheen was arrested Friday in the Colorado resort town of Aspen on charges related to domestic violence, police said.

The star of CBS' "Two and a Half Men" was taken into custody on suspicion of second-degree assault and menacing, both felonies, along with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, Aspen police spokeswoman Stephanie Dasaro said.

Police arrested the 44-year-old actor after responding to a 911 call regarding a report of domestic violence at 8:34 a.m. at a historic house up for sale for $7.5 million. The alleged victim in the case, whose name was withheld, did not have to be taken to the hospital, police said.

Police said Sheen will be held without bond until his first court appearance in this ski resort town about 200 miles west of Denver. The court was closed for Christmas, and no date for his appearance has been set.

Jail officials said Sheen wasn't available to comment. After-hours messages left for his managers weren't immediately returned.

Dasaro said Sheen would be advised of any bond conditions when he appears in court. Colorado law requires protection orders between people arrested in domestic violence cases and their alleged victims.

Sheen is the son of actor Martin Sheen. He is married to Brooke Mueller Sheen, who gave birth to the couple's first children, twin boys, in March. They married in May 2008 following Sheen's bitter divorce from Denise Richards.

Charlie Sheen's screen credits include "Platoon," "Wall Street" and the "Hot Shots!" movies. He nearly died of a drug overdose in 1998 but received court-ordered rehabilitation.

Most Pirated Films Of 2009

Most Pirated Films Of 2009

Paramount's worst fears are confirmed: "Star Trek" was the most pirated film of 2009.

In October, studio COO Frederick Huntsberry delivered a presentation to the FCC that detailed how "Star Trek" had become a hot commodity in piracy circles. Illegal file-sharing had advanced from "geek to sleek," he said. Now, according to data from TorrentFreak, "Star Trek" was downloaded nearly 11 million times this past year, just edging "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" in total downloads.

Interestingly, for all the fuss about the "Wolverine" leak, the film barely makes the top 10.

Meanwhile, Guy Ritchie's "RocknRolla" was the third most pirated film this year. The film was distributed in the U.S. by Warner Bros. and grossed less than $26 million in worldwide box office. We wonder whether its availability online hurt boxoffice—or whether Warners might have promoted the theatrical release more heavily with the knowledge of its underground appeal.

Jet Li's Warlords Trailer

Jet Li's Warlords Trailer

The film is set in the 1860s, during the Taiping Rebellion in the late Qing Dynasty in China. The story, based on an unresolved crime in 1870, tells of three sworn brothers (played by Jet Li, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro) who are forced to turn against one another due to the harsh realities of war and political intrigue.

The story begins with a vicious battle, after which Qing-Yun (Jet Li), a Qing Army General, is the only survivor of his entire army. In his aimless wanderings he encounters a girl named Lian Sheng [莲生] (Xu Jinglei), who nurses him back to health. Once he regains his strength, Qing-Yun soon meets Wu-Yang (Takeshi Kaneshiro), and later Er-Hu (Andy Lau); leaders of a bandit army that regularly steals food to survive — his participation in a successful raid on a rebel military convoy immediately earns Qing-Yun their friendship, who take him to their village. There he finds Lian Sheng again, who is revealed to be Er-Hu's wife, and they begin an illicit affair.

Sherlock Holmes Has Monster Christmas Day

Sherlock Holmes Has Monster Christmas Day

Warner Bros.' period action pic "Sherlock Holmes" raked in $24.9 million yesterday, notching the best Christmas day opening ever at the domestic box office.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, "Sherlock" marks the Blighty helmer's first wide release stateside after making his mark with a string of high-octane actioners such as "Snatch" and "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels." The film, in play at 3,626 venues, easily becomes the best opening for Ritchie as his previous pics received platform bows. "Sherlock" also served up runner-up opening day records for producer Joel Silver and leading thesp Robert Downey, Jr., whose respective highs are "The Matrix Reloaded" ($42.5 million) and "Iron Man" ($38.7 million). "Sherlock" is Ritchie's second collaboration with Silver after last year's Gerard Butler shoot-em up "RockNRolla."

In addition, "Sherlock" filed the second best Friday bow in December for Warner Bros. behind 2007’s "I Am Legend" ($30.1 million).

Overall, the top 10 films totaled a spectacular $82.9 million, repping a 24% gain on Christmas 2008 (which fell on a Thursday) and a 31% rise over the same Friday, December 26th, a year ago.

Undeterred by the onslaught of another tentpole in the marketplace, Fox’s "Avatar" dipped 12%, taking $23.5 million off 3,456. Behind "Titanic’s" $600 million-plus domestic B.O, New Line’s "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" remains December’s second highest grosser with $377 million. With an estimated running take of $160.8 million, "Avatar" is currently pacing ahead of "Return of the King" through its first eight days by 2%.

Fox’s holiday moppet fav "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" will no doubt catapult past its first installment’s seven-day gross of $55.9 million. "Squeakquel" crooned $14.5 million in its third day off 3,700 for a current domestic B.O. of $41.4 million.

Universal's Nancy Meyers romantic comedy "It's Complicated" starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin opened in fourth with $7.1 million off 2,887. The last minute R-rating for "It’s Complicated" didn’t taint its aud turnout with the pic besting the opening days of Meyers’ previous two December romantic laffers: 2003’s "Something’s Gotta Give" ($5.3 million) and 2006’s "The Holiday" ($4.4 million) which posted respective three-day weekends of $16.1 million and $12.8 million.

Paramount’s expansion of George Clooney headliner "Up in the Air" flew to fifth yesterday with $3.7 million from 1,895 and a running estimated domestic cume of $16.4 million. "Air’s" Friday shot up close to threefold over a week ago when the pic played at 72 locales.

American Idol To Go On Without Simon Cowell

American Idol To Go On Without Simon Cowell

Fox is near a deal to order more seasons of "American Idol" -- with or without its most popular judge, Simon Cowell.

The network's current contract with "Idol" producer 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia extends through the end of the 2011 season. But the network is working on a new deal that includes three seasons of "Idol," though that number could still change.

The announcement is expected to demonstrate Fox's commitment to its top-rated series, even as "Idol" faces its biggest challenge yet.

The "Idol" franchise has been rocked by rumors that Cowell will depart the show after the upcoming season as he prepares to bring his hit UK music competition series "X-Factor" to the states. Cowell's brother Tony announced Tuesday on his weekly podcast that Simon will leave "Idol" at the end of 2010. The move could have a double impact on "Idol" -- the loss of a key personality to the series, and the addition of another music competition program on Fox that may result in fewer "Idol" viewers.

MTV's Jersey Shore Catching More Heat

MTV's Jersey Shore Catching More Heat

MTV is getting more pressure to cancel its "Jersey Shore" reality show.

The latest criticism comes from the New Jersey Italian American Legislative Caucus, which says the show promotes derogatory ethnic stereotypes and is "wildly offensive."

In a letter sent Tuesday to the president of Viacom, MTV's parent company, caucus chairman Joseph Vitale asks that the show be immediately taken off the air.

The state lawmakers also have asked advertisers to boycott the show, which focuses on eight tanned 20-somethings and their escapades in Seaside Heights, a popular New Jersey beach town.

On Wednesday, a Viacom spokesman referred a request for comment to an MTV spokesperson, who did not immediately respond. MTV has said its intention is not to stereotype or offend.

Keira Knightley To Star In "The Talking Cure"

Keira Knightley To Star In "The Talking Cure"

Talk about your indie cast dream teams: Keira Knightley, Christoph Waltz and Michael Fassbender have all signed on to star in David Cronenberg's adaptation of The Talking Cure.

It would appear that Cronenberg has shuffled his cinematic version of Christopher Hampton's play to the top of his active pile after thriller The Matarese Circle died in development when Tom Cruise opted to do something else instead.

Now, though, Australian distributor Hopscotch has nabbed the rights to Cure and Cronenberg has lined up his impressive cast for a story that chronicles the fathers of psychoanalysis - that would be Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung - and their complex relationships with a beautiful patient.

Bet Keira's playing Freud.

It's been a long road for Cronenberg on this one - he's been attached since at least 2007, but now it looks like he'll finally be flying to Europe early next year to kick off shooting...

Inglourious Basterds Prequel In The Works

Inglourious Basterds Prequel In The Works

This weekend, we met with Quentin Tarantino, who was still in town after a MoMA Q&A with Elvis Mitchell this past Thursday. As if the weekend's snowstorm wasn’t inconvenience enough, his Hugo Boss coat — which contained his I.D., credit cards, and about $2,000 in cash — was stolen from the West Village bar Galway Hooker on Saturday. Taking pity on him, we paid for some French-vanilla lattes and mimosas the next day, and took the opportunity to ask him about his next film project and how Germans and Israelis perceived Inglourious Basterds.

So, are we in for an Inglourious Basterds prequel? Apparently not yet — even though Tarantino says he has 40 pages of it written. He’s not giving up on the idea or the script, especially if the original film does well at the awards shows. But he’s got another project, which he’s keeping under wraps, coming first. It’s going to be “smaller, less epic” in scale than Basterds, and in a “different genre entirely.” He says he thinks he can finish it in a five- to six-month period of intensive writing.

Still, he only recently returned from the foreign press tour for Basterds, and the reactions in Germany and Israel were foremost on his mind, for obvious reasons. In the former country, he saw a transformation in the audience. We’ll let him explain:

“When Germans are watching World War II movies, they’re used to cringing. Why they make themselves endure it, I don’t know. That is just the way it is for them, and they expect that that’s the way it’s going to be. And they’re always forced to look at it from the guilt perspective. [It’s a] World War II movie, and nothing’s going to fucking change that. But, as [Basterds] goes on, all of a sudden, that starts dropping away, and they actually got caught up in the story. And they’re really caught up in the story — it starts getting really funny. And it gets laughs. And all of a sudden, you have a German audience watching a movie about World War II — and they’re allowed to laugh! They’re allowed to enjoy it! And the fantasy [of assasinating Hitler] is just as much their fantasy as anybody else’s.”

So, the Germans love it. How about those Israelis?

“So now, in Israel, I’m watching the film, and we get into the theater sequence. And literally, not when Hitler gets killed, but when you hear Shoshanna’s voice say, ‘This is the face of Jewish vengeance,’ the whole theater just erupted in applause. I think there were two guys that started it, but everyone jumped in. And you know something? It was violent. It was scary. There was violence in that cheer. It wasn’t like cheering Indiana Jones. There was something bloodcurdling about it. I don’t want to overstate it, but there was an edge to it. There was violence in it … there was blood in the air, which was wild. It was a wild thing to experience. It was a great experience, and it was real.”

It certainly sounds like a Tarantinoesque moment.

Sex and the City 2 Trailer

Sex and the City 2 Trailer

Slip on your Manolos and grab a Cosmo, girls, because the first "Sex and the City 2" trailer is here! The nearly minute-and-a-half trailer reveals few plot points, but the sequel looks like another fun- and fashion-filled romp, centering around a girlfriend getaway to the desert.

The trailer (see it after the jump!) opens with quick shots of New York City accompanied by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' seriously apropos hit "Empire State of Mind." "It's been two years and in two years, amazing things can happen," purrs Sarah Jessica Parker. Cut to Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) sauntering down a Big Apple sidewalk, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) baking cupcakes with her 2-year-old daughter Rose and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) doing something at what appears to be a wedding (the rumored Stanford Blatch-Anthony Marantino nuptials, perhaps?).

The gal pals then hop on a plane and jet to the desert to "get carried far away," which explains the foursome being spotted in Morocco back in November. Did we mention they ride camels? Oh my! After a back seat makeout between Carrie and Big, the trailer closes on the four friends wandering alone in the desert. "Sometimes you just have to get away with the girls," SJP concludes.

So to sum up, the two big happenings in the sequel appear to be a wedding and a vacay. We'll have to wait for another trailer to flesh out more of the story and to see a few of those star-studded cameos we've been hearing about like Miley Cyrus, Liza Minnelli and Penelope Cruz.

Mayweather-Pacquiao In Jeopardy

Mayweather-Pacquiao In Jeopardy

Nearly every detail is finalized for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao to fight on March 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas but one. That one detail, though, may kill the fight.

Negotiations are at an impasse over Pacquiao’s failure to agree to random Olympic-style drug testing, said Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, on Tuesday.

Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach said his fighter is willing to comply with strict drug-testing standards, but Roach won’t allow Pacquiao to have blood drawn 48 hours before the fight.

Ellerbe said he would not let Mayweather enter the ring unless Pacquiao agreed to it.

Both sides agreed that the drug testing issue is the only hurdle preventing the fight from being finished. Earlier Tuesday, Golden Boy Promotions officially requested March 13 from the Nevada State Athletic Commission to host the show.

“As Floyd’s management, we are insistent that there be a level playing field,” Ellerbe said. “This is in the best interests of the fighters, the fans and the sport. If you want a level playing field, the best way to do it is to have Olympic-style, random drug testing administered by the premier agency in the world, the [United States Anti-Doping Agency].”

Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum said the demand is “absolutely crazy,” done simply to harass Pacquiao, who is squeamish about needles, and is proof that Mayweather doesn’t really want the fight.

Arum said the request has been an unsettled issue since the first day of negotiations last month.

“We’re not going to agree to have Manny give blood in training, because that’s stupid,” Arum said. “Every doctor in the world will tell you that is stupid. He’ll give his blood at the beginning of the year and he’s willing to be urine-tested 24/7, but blood doesn’t show [expletive] and he’s not going to do it.”

In a statement released by his publicist, Mayweather said he is willing to submit to the testing. There was never any suspicion that Pacquiao had ever taken banned substances until earlier this year, when Floyd Mayweather Sr. suggested he was on steroids.

Pacquiao has passed every urine test he’s been given in connection with boxing matches.

“I understand Pacquiao not liking having his blood taken, because frankly I don’t know anyone who really does,” Mayweather said in his statement. “But in a fight of this magnitude, I think it is our responsibility to subject ourselves to sportsmanship at the highest level. I have already agreed to the testing and it is a shame that he is not willing to do the same.

“It leaves me with great doubt as to the level of fairness I would be facing in the ring that night. I hope that this is either some miscommunication or that Manny will change his mind and step up and allow these tests, which were good enough for all these other great athletes, to be performed by USADA.”

Blood tests for illegal drugs and banned substances are not required by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which would have regulatory control of the bout if it is held in Las Vegas.

In Nevada, a fighter is required to submit to a blood test that screens for HIV and Hepatitis B and C, as well as other blood-borne diseases, as part of the requirement to gain a license.

A license in Nevada is good for one year. In Pacquiao’s case, he received his 2009 license shortly before he fought Ricky Hatton in May. He submitted his blood to the commission between April 5 and April 20, said Keith Kizer, the commission’s executive director.

Kizer said all fighters who fight in Nevada are subject to random urine tests as well as any other medical tests, such as an MRI or a CAT scan, that the commission deems necessary. Arum said Pacquiao is willing to submit to testing by an outside agency but won’t give his blood. Roach said it’s an issue because Mayweather’s side has been insisting Pacquiao give blood as close as 48 hours within the fight.

“We’ll accommodate their requests and do urine testing up the wazoo and we’ll agree to have them done by an outside agency,” Arum said. “Manny has nothing to hide. But he’s not going to give blood because that’s crazy. He’ll do it at the beginning and he’ll do it at the end. That’s how it is done. Ask some former Olympic boxers how many times they give blood.”

Ellerbe said having the testing administered by USADA would quell suspicions about the procedures or the result.

“This is no rooty toot organization,” said Ellerbe, who noted that such testing was accepted by elite athletes such as LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Phelps and Lance Armstrong.

Roach scoffed at such talk and said it won’t matter to him if the fight is not held.

“I really don’t care, because Manny doesn’t need Floyd Mayweather,” Roach said. “The tests he’s requesting are not commission tests, they’re not boxing tests and this is not an Olympic sport. A urine test is just as qualified as a blood test. [Human growth hormone] is not detected by blood or urine.”

Joel Silver Talks Upcoming Films, Swamp Thing,Sgt. Rock,Wonder Women and Lobo

Joel Silver Talks Upcoming Films. Swamp Thing,Sgt. Rock,Wonder Women and Lobo

"Sherlock Holmes" producer Joel Silver has his hands full with films based on literary heroes these days, and as many comic book fans are aware, quite a few of those projects hail from the DC Comics universe.

Since his name is attached to many of the projects we're most excited about these days, Silver offered MTV News a quick update on some of those projects during the "Sherlock Holmes" red carpet event last week. We pressed the comics-friendly producer for his thoughts on everything from "Swamp Thing" to "Lobo" and many of the other films drawing on DC's massive stable of characters.

When asked about his previous comments regarding a 3-D "Swamp Thing" movie, Silver reiterated his belief that 3-D was the intended format for a film about DC's famous swamp creature. Of course, given the character's history as the subject of multiple live-action movies, a live-action television series and an animated series, a move to 3-D is pretty much the only format in which we haven't seen man-turned-monster Alec Holland.

"Yeah, if we pull it together and if the script works, that's our intention," said Silver of going the 3-D route.

The producer also indicated that Guy Ritchie's departure from the "Sgt. Rock" movie hasn't impeded plans to bring DC's war hero to theaters. While he wouldn't comment on rumors that the "Sgt. Rock" movie would be set in the future rather than its World War II roots, he did sound positive about progress on the film thus far.

"We're working on ['Sgt. Rock'] now," he said. "There's a real possibility on that. There's a good shot on that one."

Conversely, Silver didn't seem to be holding his breath for a "Wonder Woman" movie to go into production any time soon, despite Warner Brothers' reorganization and renewed focus on DC characters under the DC Entertainment banner.

"I'm not really doing anything with ['Wonder Woman'] at the moment," he said. "Once the studio knows what they want to do, and makes a decision, they'll probably let us know."

However, with "The Losers" on its way to theaters in April 2010, Silver said he expects "Lobo" to the next comic book movie he concentrates on. The film, which follows DC's ultraviolent cosmic bounty hunter, was originally rumored to have "Sherlock Holmes" director Guy Ritchie behind the camera, but Ritchie cast some doubts on his involvement during a recent MTV News interview.

"I want to try and make 'Lobo' very soon," Silver responded when asked which comic book project was next on his plate after "The Losers."

Rapper T.I. Release Early From Jail. Nice To Be Rich

Rapper T.I. Release Early From Jail. Nice To Be Rich

Rapper T.I. got an early Christmas present today. The rapper was released from prison to an Atlanta, Ga. halfway house, according to an interview with his attorney, Steve Sadow. T.I. (real name: Clifford J. Harris Jr.) had served nearly seven months of a one year and one day sentence at a federal prison in Arkansas stemming from a weapon charge. He was originally scheduled to be released on March 10, 2010.

Sadow told the website xxlmag.com that "He's on his way back to the Atlanta area. He has to report to a halfway house in Atlanta sometime this evening. And he will then spend somewhere between the next two or three months in a halfway house, ending his Bureau of Prison sentence."

T.I., 28, was arrested after trying to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers from undercover federal agents in 2007. That came after the rapper's best friend was killed following a party in Cincinnati in 2006. The rapper has said the bullets that killed his friend were meant for him.

The self-proclaimed "King of the South" had faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each charge in his three-count indictment. However, he reached a plea deal with prosecutors after spending time on house arrest before his sentencing and speaking before community groups and high schools about the dangers of drugs, violence and guns.

T.I. is one of the most popular rappers of his generation, with three straight No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, including 2008's "Paper Trail," which debuted in the penthouse with first week sales of 568,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. He's had 10 Top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including three No. 1s -- "My Love" (Justin Timberlake feat. T.I.), "Whatever You Like" and "Live Your Life" (feat. Rihanna).

T.I.'s release to a halfway house in his hometown should make for a happy holiday for the rapper. "A halfway house is more along the lines of a residential dormitory," Sadow told XXL. "You live within this house that is broken into areas for living, and you are permitted to leave during the day for certain reasons, of which would be employment, medical reasons. So it's a restriction on your liberty, but it's a way for you to reenter into society and not be confined within a jail type institution 24-hours a day."

Bryan Singer Talks X-Men: First Class

Bryan Singer Talks X-Men: First Class

Now that he's officially signed to develop and direct the film, Bryan Singer has begun to talk - at least, to drop hints - about mutant prequel pic X-Men: First Class.

Singer admitted that while he couldn't talk specifically about the story (it's still a secret), he could lock down what part of the X-story it would cover. "It’s basically about the formation of the X-Men. How they began and the relationship between a young Xavier and a young Magneto."

And since it'll borrow elements from Eric Lensherr's longer life, it's even more likely that the Magneto origin movie will be shoved back on the schedule as Fox concentrates on this. "This story would probably utilize some of the Magneto story because it deals with a young Magneto, so it might supersede that because this would explore that relationship between a young energetic professor and a disenfranchised victim of the Holocaust."

But even First Class will have to wait in line behind Singer's planned fantasy pic Jack The Giant Killer, which is his next scheduled movie. "Right now that is the plan. Unless there's a problem in the development process. There is a script for "Jack"; we're in visual development. We've got artwork and pre-viz that we are doing. But you never know how things go."

He talks more about Battlestar Galactica and Excalibur, both of which sound like they're still far from certain just yet, so go take a look.

Peter Jackson Developing Mortal Engines

Peter Jackson Developing Mortal Engines

Wellington's Dominion Post, a newspaper published in the New Zealand home of Peter Jackson's Wingnut Films and the Weta Workshop, has broken the news that Jackson and Weta are working on adaptations of Philip Reeve's Mortal Engines quartet (known as The Hungry City Chronicles in the US: so let's hope we get to keep the UK titles and there's none of that Golden Compass nonsense).

Reeve's series of children's novels takes place in a steampunk post-apocalyptic future where cities are mobile and perambulate the planet devouring each other for fuel: a system amusingly called Municipal Darwinism. The St Paul's Cathedral-topped London is the strongest of these Traction Cities, in a world where "old tech" is extremely sought after.

The first novel, Mortal Engines itself, in a very small nutshell, involves an assassination attempt within the Historians Guild; the challenging of apprentice Historian Tom Natsworthy's value system, when he gets stranded overboard his beloved London with the revenge-bent Hester Shaw; and the Terminator-ish "stalker" Shrike (Grike if you're American) who's on their trail. Mortal Engines is followed by Predator's Gold, Infernal Devices, A Darkling Plain and the prequel Fever Crumb.

The film series is in early development, according to The Post, with design work on the moving cities underway at Weta. A spokesman for Peter Jackson declined to comment, deferring to Jackson himself. But crucially, he denied nothing. Jackson is understood to have been sitting on the option for the books for some time.

Whether Jackson will want to direct the series or just produce, remains to be seen. With fingers in the pies of The Hobbit, Tintin, The Dambusters, Temeraire, and Halo, we wonder when he'd find the time to do either.

Twilight:Eclipse's Bryce Dallas Howard Talks Replacing Rachelle Lefevre.

Twilight:Eclipse's Bryce Dallas Howard Talks Replacing Rachelle Lefevre.

In the upcoming third Twilight movie, Eclipse, Terminator Salvation's Bryce Dallas Howard will step in for Rachelle Lefevre as the evil vampire Victoria, and Howard said that the filmmakers took pains to make sure the transition was smooth. (Lefevre was let go last summer.)

For one thing, the filmmakers will put a red wig on the otherwise red-haired Howard so that her tresses match those of Lefevre from the first two Twilight films.

"I'm wearing a wig for that film," Howard said in a group interview last week in Los Angeles, where she was promoting The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond.

Howard added that it was important to all involved that Victoria remain the same character. "There's a very grounded visual continuity for the character, which is critical," Howard said. (Spoilers ahead!)

As readers know, Eclipse is the story in which Victoria becomes the biggest threat. She's been chasing Bella for a film and a half already, but in Eclipse she leads a vampire army. That gives Howard a juicy part to step into.

"Well, as written in the book, Victoria becomes the primary predator of Bella in Eclipse," Howard said.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse opens June 30, 2010.

My main man Tom Cruise kicking ass and taking names. During the trailer you can see how much fun he is having and the line "I'll kill myself, then her." was great...

Tom Cruise plays a secret agent who goes on a blind date with unlucky-in-love Cameron Diaz, and ends up pulling her into a journey to protect a powerful battery that holds the key to an infinite power source.

The Karate Kid Trailer

The Karate Kid Trailer

I was hoping that the movie and trailer would just be really bad. I am a huge Fan of the original film and was hoping this film would look horrible so that no one would waste a dime to go see the film when it hits theaters.

But from what they showed on the trailer it doesn't look half bad. Not saying that I would go to see the film during the first weekend, but maybe when it hits the dollar theaters.

I may take a chance on it.

Sherry is offered a transfer to China. Considering the U.S office is about to lay off everyone, it’s really her only choice; especially since nobody else at the office has been offered a transfer. With her young son Dre (Jaden Smith) in tow, the single-mother makes Beijing her new home. Needless to say, not knowing Chinese, and experiencing a bit of culture shock, they both find it a little hard to settle in – – Dre especially.
Like Daniel Larusso in the original film, Dre (who, unlike Larusso, is a skateboarding video-game buff) immediately catches the attention of the local bullies – in particular, Lui Wei Cheng. And before too long, Dre is going home with bruises (he tries to hide a black-eye under a cap by pulling it as far down his face as he can) and whining about wanting to return to the states.

Dre’s enrolled into a strict Beijing Middle School. His first day there is a bit of a shambles – the assistant principal spots his bruises, and assumes he’s been fighting (which, of course, they don’t accept under any circumstances), and he turns up in a school uniform, something he didn’t have to wear that day (there’s only certain days when a uniform is required).

The Mr Myiagi character is actually named Mr. Han (Jackie Chan). He’s the maintenance man of the apartment lock that Sherry and Dre have moved into, and meets the new residents when he’s called over to fix their hot water service. From the bathroom, Han spots Dre practicing martial-arts kicks (unsuccessfully) in front of a video-game, and catches his black eye. Later, of course, he’ll agree to teach him – both martial-arts and the Chinese language (so he can impress his mother by haggling over apples).

The ‘John Kreese’ character – the character played by Martin Kove in the original film – is Li Quan Ha, the owner of the Fighting dragon school of Kung-Fu. One visit to the school – in which Li Quan terrorizes his students (who range from the age of 3 onwards), namely Lui Wei Cheng – and Dre is immediately put off.

Oh, and yes, there’s a love interest – someone mother wants Dre to bring home for dinner.

THE KARATE KID opens June 11th, 2010

Taylor Lautner To Make Vision Quest Remake

Taylor Lautner To Make Vision Quest Remake

Taylor Lautner may be about to pin down another role.

Seemingly seconds after he booked yet another post-Jacob job, sources tell E! News that the 17-year-old actor is in talks to put his New Moon abs to good use in a remake of the 1985 drama Vision Quest.

Which is not what it sounds like--a cheesy sci-fi flick--but rather a coming-of-age romance that featured Madonna's "Crazy for You" as its theme song and that starred Matthew Modine as a high school wrestling star who falls in love with an artist--a permtastic Linda Fiorentino--his dad has taken in as a boarder.

Why remake? Let's just rerelease that! But Taylor may have another vision.

He could wind up playing an updated version of Modine's character in the still-in-development film, which counts Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill Entertainment (and Twilight and New Moon fame) as producers. We hear that Richard Munic has penned a screenplay that is "very faithful" to the original film.

"Taylor saw [the script] and is really excited about it," says a source. "It's very much in line with his athleticism. His character is someone who's striving for greatness."

A rep for Lautner didn't respond to a request for comment, and Warner Bros., which owns the rights to Vision Quest, remained mum on whether it's considering the shirtless wonder for the lead, confirming only that the film is in development.

"Kick-Ass" Red Band Trailer Featuring Hit-Girl

"Kick-Ass" Red Band Trailer Featuring Hit-Girl

One reason why "Kick-Ass" is getting a ton of buzz is due to the character of Hit-Girl. Played by Chloe Moretz, she is 11 years old, she cusses, she kills people.

This red band (red band!) trailer from IGN may show why she is a candidate for breakout actress/character of 2010. Much of the action images were seen at the "Kick-Ass'" Comic Con pane,l but it doesn't matter: There are still some doozies here.

Green Lantern Has A Cast Of Lovely Ladies To Choose From

Green Lantern Has A Cast Of Lovely Ladies To Choose From

With Ryan Reynolds (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) set to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming Green Lantern movie, Latino Review has narrowed down the contenders to play Carol Ferris, his love interest. And they're quite a group of lovely sci-fi vets:

Who would you Pick? If you know me then you know why I picked Jennifer Garner

Eva Green-
She played Vesper Lynd in the recent James Bond movie, Casino Royale, opposite Daniel Craig, as well as the witchy Serafina Pekkala in The Golden Compass.

Keri Russell-
Besides appearing in J.J. Abrams' Mission: Impossible III, Russell has voiced Wonder Woman in the recent animated movie and is perhaps best known for playing the title role in Abrams' TV series Felicity.

Diane Kruger-
The German-born actress starred in Quentin Tarantino's alternate-history World War II action satire Inglourious Basterds and the Nicolas Cage adventure thrillers National Treasure and National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

Blake Lively-
The star of The CW's Gossip Girl doesn't have a lot of sci-fi credentials.

Jennifer Garner-
Best known as Sydney Bristow on Abrams' Alias, Garner has a lot of fantasy romantic comedy credits, including the recent The Invention of Lying, as well as Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and 13 Going on 30. And she's no stranger to superhero stories, having starred in Elektra and its predecessor, Daredevil.

'Clash of the Titans' Film Complete. Only In A Fairy Tale

'Clash of the Titans' Film Complete. Only In A Fairy Tale

"Clash of the Titans" is getting more epic -- and perhaps 3-D.

I talked to Sam Worthington backstage last night at The Envelope's special screening of "Avatar" and the subject turned to "Clash of the Titans," the fantasy adventure due in March from director Louis Leterrier, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. The 33-year-old actor said that Warners, pleased with what they saw of Leterrier's work, had increased the budget for the film.

"We're going to be going back and shooting more scenes for it, they cut loose with some money so we can add to it," Worthington told me as we sat in the green room. He was obviously very enthused about the studio's decision. Sigourney Weaver, Worthington's costar in "Avatar" and a friend of Leterrier's, was sitting next to us and listening in as well.

Worthington went on: "We're going to be shooting more scenes in January, so we're going to be right up against it -- the movie comes out in March."

I had to ask: Is it really enthusiasm that is behind the mad scramble? From the outside, last-minute returns to the set look like signs of trouble. Worthington conceded that the January labors will help fix up some problem areas of the film, but he insisted that the new money and the new filming opportunity are signs that Warners and the producers are setting their sights higher for the film.

"There were some creaky parts but they are the parts that we knew were creaky and that we knew were going to be creaky going into it. The studio is also letting us add some gods and scenes. And they're talking about making the movie a 3D film."

Marvin the Martian Film Is In The Works

Marvin the Martian Film Is In The Works

The Na'vi may be protecting Pandora this weekend, but come Christmas 2011, Marvin the Martian will try to destroy things here on Earth.

And the producers are talking to a number of stars. One name that's come up is Mike Myers, no stranger to voice roles given his work on the Shrek franchise.

The Looney Tunes character is getting his own movie -- and now that movie has a director and writers, and could soon even have a star to lend Marvin his voice.

Warner Bros. and producer Alcon Entertainment (the company behind the fall sensation "The Blind Side") are bringing aboard a director named Alex Zamm to oversee the misadventures of the cartoon alien. Zamm is an up-and-comer who is also signed on to direct "Hong Kong Phooey," the film version of the 1970s Hanna Barbera cartoon (that movie, from some of the same producers, could still happen, but probably not before the Marvin film).

The Marvin picture now also has writers -- Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove, two television veterans (they've written and.produced shows like "Spin City") who also are writing the upcoming "CHiPS" movie. Yes, it's a remake universe that we live in.

The plot for "Marvin" will remain what it was when it was first announced in the summer of 2008: Marvin comes to Earth to try to destroy Christmas, but his plans are foiled when he gets trapped inside a gift box.

Marvin the Martian was of course a nemesis of Bugs Bunny, often posing a real threat in contrast to Yosemite Sam's more bumbling one. No word on whether Bugs will make a cameo in the movie, but given the way library characters get recycled these days, it would be surprising if that were all, folks.

21 Jump Street Film Get Some Meatballs

21 Jump Street Film Get Some Meatballs

Columbia Pictures is negotiating with the "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" helming team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller to direct "21 Jump Street," the pic based on the TV series that launched Johnny Depp.

The film, about a group of baby-faced cops who go undercover at high schools, has been guided by Jonah Hill and Mike Bacall, who hatched the story together. Bacall wrote the script and Hill will star in the film and exec produce.

Neal Moritz is producing with Stephen J. Cannell.

The series, which ran from 1987-1990, was an early hit for the Fox Network.

"21 Jump Street" is the first live-action feature directing assignment for the duo, who've worked together as co-exec producers on the CBS series "How I Met Your Mother" and "Clone High." They co-wrote "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," which was Lord's feature directing debut.

Nightmare On Elm Street Re Shoots and Friday The 13th News

Nightmare On Elm Street Re Shoots and Friday The 13th News

Here's what Brad Fuller had to say:

While many of you are enjoying a Christmas break I am working everyday on Elm Street. I have read all the rumors and want to make sure that you have the facts. We are doing a couple of days of reshooting Elm Street. People seem to be making a big deal about that fact. Elm Street is our 8th film and we've had reshoots for every film. As I have stated here many times, I try to read everything and I pay attention. The fans input has always been so valuable to me, and Elm Street is no exception. I don't want to get specific about what we are shooting, but suffice to say we heard you. After you've seen the film we can discuss what was reshot. I will say this though- nothing beats seeing Jackie back as Freddy- he works so hard to perfect his portrayal and leaves nothing to chance.

Let's talk Friday 13th. We have busted our ass to get that movie going! The script is great- dare I say, better than the first. Shannon and Swift have outdone themselves. We are working with New Line to get that movie going. I had hoped to be able to tell you that we started prepping the movie, but that isn't the case. We are hoping that New Line decides get us started early next year.

Robert Rodriguez Talks Sin City 2

Robert Rodriguez Talks Sin City 2

Here is what we learn from the interviews:

When asked about the timetable:

Yeah, we still talk about doing that as early as later next year. I haven't gotten to that yet.

When asked about the chances of the film actually happening Rodriguez can't say no, because he doesn't know if the answer is no.

I can't say no, because I don't know it's no. I know Frank wants to do it. I know I want to do it. It's always sort of a 'time permitting' kind of thing. But it's not like I can tell you definitely we're starting . It's not my next picture, I know that. It doesn't mean that it's not the picture right after 'cause that's still a possibility.

He goes on to say that the script for the film has been around since 2007 and when asked if he is happy with it he says:

Well, it's one Frank wrote and we have to look at it now and go, "Is this really the one?" I think it's built up so much that, like, are we really going to satisfy everybody with what we have or should we add to it? It's the thing we had always talked about doing, but now two years later we'd probably make some adjustments. Nothing that would take a long time. We could already start and in pre-production fix anything we wanted to.

So it sounds like the script is good but just a few little updates need to be made. What was written is based off of some pre-existing story lines from the comic mixed in with some original stuff just for the film, that supposedly will get the audience caught up to the character. What character? He doesn't really say.

So perhaps late next year Rodriguez will finally get started on it! I loved the first Sin City movie, and like many of you I've eagerly been waiting for the sequel. Lets hope it ends up being just as good or better than the first.

Up in the Air Movie Review

Up in the Air Movie Review
By-Windy City Gal

"To know me is to fly with me" - Ryan Bingham (George Clooney)

We added a new team member to the Sandwichjohnfilms Family coming all the way from the Chicago.

Windy City girl just blew into our family. And we are lucky to have her.

Also check out her awesome blog over at Windy City Gal.

Up in the Air, directed by Jason Reitman and starring George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, and "Twilight's" Anna Kendrick, focuses on Ryan Bingman (Clooney) as a no-baggage, traveling "corporate downsizer", void of any human relationships. Bingham's relationship-less life puts him in a perfect position to layoff people across the country without batting an eyelash.

There might not be a more fitting role for Clooney. We all know his eternal bachelor status, and this movie represents it perfectly. I'm not saying he hasn't loved. We've seen many a girlfriend, but the movie eerily portrays similarities between his movie love life and his real love life.

Clooney is ever-so-believable as an unsettled bachelor who ends up rethinking his lifestyle after family issues bring him back home. Vera Farmiga is even more believable as Clooney's man-eating counterpart. So much so that her actions near the end of the film, which show her character's underlying motivations, are truly shocking to most movie-goers (and caused a loud "gasp" in the theater).

Anna Kendrick gets her first breakout role after playing Jessica Stanley in the Twilight franchise. Kendrick takes on this adult-targeted film with gusto, playing a 23-yr old know-it-all who ends up realizing she doesn't know much of anything. Kendrick plays the comic relief in the movie, with perfectly timed foot-in-mouth one-liners that had most people cringing in their seats. Her volleying back and forth with Clooney is spot on and you can see inklings of Kendrick's character breaking Bingham down.

As we see Clooney's character develop, look for subtle changes in filming. The first half of the film is mostly neutral colors - grey, black, white - those you would see in an airport - and those Bingham is most comfortable with. You'll also notice straight lines (shirts hanging, rows of departure statuses, continuous credit card and boarding pass swiping). As Kendrick and Farmiga's characters start to open him up, notice the lines start to disappear and color starts to enter his life - a metaphor for relationship building and caring.

By the end of the film, Bingham, while wanting to change his lifestyle, might have waited a bit too long. You'll have to see the movie to see if the change is truly possible or if he remains Up in the Air.

All three actors are fantastic at portraying their well-developed characters. The story is good, and particularly believable in these economic times. It also covers the emotional spectrum of sadness, happiness, laughter and despise. To have all this successfully combined in a film is truly an achievement and Up in the Air is worth the publicity it's received.
