Rampage Video Game To Be Made Into A Film

Who’s up for a little Rampage?

New Line Cinema has put into development an adaptation of the classic 1980s video game featuring apes and monsters destroying cities.

John Rickard, who has acted as a co-producer on a wide range of New Line movies from A Nightmare on Elm Street and Final Destination to Horrible Bosses and next year’s tentpole Jack the Giant Killer, will produce and is meeting with writers to develop a story for the project.

The game comes from Midway Games, which was acquired by New Line's sister company Warner Bros. in 2009 for $33 million.

The concept of the game revolves around a trio of mild-mannered humans who are mutated into a giant Godzilla-like lizard, a werewolf and a gorilla, respectively, and fight the military while destroying buildings. Players controlled the monsters and moved up levels when a city was destroyed.

The project aims to take advantage of the title and the visuals of the game.

New Line isn’t usually in the tentpole business (the Lord of the Rings trilogy being the big exception) but the studio believes that technology has advanced enough that the possibility exists to make a smartly-budgeted monster movie in the vein and tone of Ghostbusters and Independence Day.

Tarsem Singh Attached To Killing On Carnival Row

Tarsem Singh, whose latest film Immortals just opened and who follows with the Julia Roberts-starrer Snow White film Mirror, Mirror, has become attached to Killing On Carnival Row. That is a script by Travis Beacham that producers Arnold and Anne Kopelson originally set up six years ago. It was a hot spec and the very first sale for Beacham, whose subsequent credits include Clash of the Titans, Pacific Rim, the Disney remake Black Hole, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea at Fox. The Kopelsons, who originally set it at New Line, have gotten close to making the film with Guillermo Del Toro and Neil Jordan, but they feel that Singh will put them over the top.

Arnold Kopelson said he’s in talks with a studio he wouldn’t reveal but expects to begin production on the noir-style fantasy thriller next June in New Orleans. He’s starting to cast. The script takes place in the future in a city called the Burgue, which looks a lot like 18th Century London. It is inhabited by humans and other creatures, and a serial killer is on the loose. “I am thrilled that Tarsem will direct Carnival Row, which we’ve been developing over the past six years,” Kopelson told me. “His extraordinary visual sense and use of light and color can be compared to that of the great 16th Century Italian painter Michelangelo Caravaggio.” Singh has been circling several films, including Nautica with Escape Artists, and Marco Polo with James Stern and Gianni Nunnari. Singh is repped by CAA.

Could Another Friday Film Be On The Way?

It's been almost ten years since the last instalment, but Ice Cube and New Line are apparently keen to revive the slacker Friday franchise.

The first Friday was a stoner comedy released in 1995. It's nominal plot involved Chris Tucker's need to get $200 back to local drug dealer Big Worm (Faizon Love) and Cube's face-off with bully Deebo (Tiny Lister), but its easygoing pace allowed for plenty of sitting around on porches, talking nonsense and smoking.

Five years later, Next Friday was a broader tale of Cube staying with his cousin Day-Day (Mike Epps) and getting embroiled in some shenanigans against the trio of haplessly inept Latino gangstas next door (this was at the height of Cube's rather public spat with Cypress Hill, context fans). The Cube/Epps double-act continued into Friday After Next, which saw them as mall cops. There was also a short-lived animated series, although none of the movie series cast provided the voices.

The first film was directed by F Gary Gray, the second by Steve Carr, and the third by Marcus Raboy, but the currently untitled fourth may see Cube himself stepping behind the camera, as well as starring and writing as he's always done. The bigger news however, is that the new film may see the return of Tucker's Smokey, who hasn't been seen since the original. Deebo's in it too.

Deadline and TMZ both point out that Tucker sat out the other Friday sequels for religious and anti-drugs reasons (he also says he wouldn't now do Jackie Brown), but the "serious talks" that are apparently underway suggest that Tucker's reservations might be addressed and accommodated in the next screenplay. There surely is comedy potential in a Smokey who no longer smokes: it's Friday, he ain't got no job, and he ain't got shit to do... but he can't get high either...

Twilight Trilogy DVD Giveaway

With the amazing Midnight Box Office totals for Summit Entertainment's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-Part 1 which grossed $30.3 million in midnight runs as fans rushed to see the second-to-last installment in the blockbuster franchise

I got my hands on 5 sets of the first three TWILIGHT films. Five lucky winners will get:

Let us know what you thought of the film on the actual Facebook post and I will select 5 lucky winners this week.

The movie began playing in 3,251 theaters at 12:01 a.m. Friday, before moving into a total of 4,061 locations by mid-morning.

Breaking Dawn narrowly set a new franchise record, coming in slightly ahead of the $30 million earned by The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in midnight runs in summer 2010, and notably ahead of the $26.3 million earned by The Twilight Saga: New Moon two years ago on the same weekend.

Until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 came along this summer, the last two Twilight pics set records for best midnight performance. This summer, Deathly Hallows earned a massive $43.6 million in midnight grosses. Breaking Dawn now stands at No. 2 in terms of all-time midnight best.

The movie's midnight performance suggests it will have no problems matching, or even besting, the $142.8 million debut of New Moon.

Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, Breaking Dawn was directed by Bill Condon.
As of Thursday, Breaking Dawn had already earned $8.9 million from a handful of foreign markets.

THE MUPPETS Movie Review By: Rama

THE MUPPETS Movie Review
By: Rama

Is Rama still in love with The Muppets after all these years? Please make sure to follow him on Facebook and Twitter.

THE MUPPETS makes me smile, makes me feel like a kid again. This film doesn’t have a single dull moment, I love every minute! Genius songwriter Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords) should get nominated for his catchy original songs Man or Muppet and Life’s A Happy Song.

I had my worries at first because the Forgetting Sarah Marshall team Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller’s brand of humor are in the same R-rated raunchy ring as Judd Apatow’s but Segel and Stoller are very respectful to THE MUPPETS characters and this whole property. There’s no innuendo and it’s very family friendly. Folks of all ages will enjoy the humor. Neither Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzy, Gonzo nor Pepe are any different than the way remembered them growing up. And Walter is a fantastic latest addition to one of the most beloved gangs of all time…

What’s your childhood’s favorite Muppets movie? The Muppets Takes Manhattan? The Muppets Christmas Carol? Muppets From Space? Well, this comeback movie beats all of those.
The story is basically about Muppets getting their team back together to save their studio. Years have gone by and everybody’s got their own separate lives, some successful, some not so much but their personalities, their habits are still intact, some may be repressed but it’s there in them, waiting for the ‘animal’ side to be unleashed.

Kermit and Miss Piggy still have that complicated adoration tension relationship. You can’t not like those two. You know they care for each other, they care for the show, they care for the team but they’re like old bickering married couple, Kermit often makes fun of Piggy and Piggy is too focused on herself to pay attention but that’s the tie that binds, they will always end up together and they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Because THE MUPPETS has so many characters, just be ready for the fact that one or two of your favorites may not be getting much screen time but it’s totally understandable in my book, because you gotta keep in mind that Jason Segel, Amy Adams, and the new puppet Walter are also part of the story, they’re key characters as well. Segel deciding where his priorities are, Walter conflicted between joining the team and sticking by his human pal, and Adams feels neglected.

You may get bombarded by the film’s many moral messages and themes but I for one don’t mind because that’s what THE MUPPETS been about anyway, to let you know that you’re awesome, that you belong, that everyone’s got talent, that music always makes doing chores fun and the list goes on.
The telethon takes you back to the old episodes, this is one that’s not to be missed.

I think the way this movie reintroduces these characters to today’s generation is brilliant. In this day and age when everything is CG animation or hybrid, it’s good to see old skool puppetry skill at work. You get newfound respect for that.

And just like the old shows and the old movies, this movie too has a gazillion celebrity cameos and they aim to cheer you up. Oscar winner Chris Cooper is excellent as the bad guy Tex Rich and the humor that occasionally breaks fourth wall will invite you to be part of the joyous occasion.

There’s one cinematic set piece in the film that I really had fun watching, when Kermit sings and the paintings of his buddies all around him turn to life, kinda speaks in a way that reminds us that even if we haven’t seen THE MUPPETS in a while, they’re not entirely gone, they’re still around, they’re just not around as a team,.. until this movie comes along and makes that reunion possible. And I think this whole thing is a major success mostly because it’s handled by people who truly love THE MUPPETS and have been genuine fans ever since they could remember.
