BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

#BoxOffice Report: 'The Martian' Continues Its Run, 'Pan' Fails to Appeal

The Martian keeps the rescue coming, while Pan walks the plank. Story by Matt Cummings As discussed in our Inside the Bucket podcast this weekend, the US box office proved once again that legitimately bad press can kill a movie long before it gets released. Meanwhile, Ridley Scott's newest film continues to impress. Leading the box office for the second consecutive week is The Martian with a very good $37.01m haul, dropping only 32% from its release. That's better than 2014's Interstellar , which dropped 40% in its second week. Riding high on critical and popular praise, the Matt Damon survival film has already made a stunning $108.72m by emphasizing friendly teamwork and no manufactured drama. Remaining at a distant No. 2 was Hotel Transylvania 2 , with an estimated $20.42m, dropping only 38% in its third week. The Adam Sandler/Selena Gomez animated follow-up is really the only game in town for families, but that's not the only reason why it&#

Movie Review: 'Pan'

The re-re-rehash of Pan never, ever captures the magic of the Disney classic. Review by Matt Cummings Some ideas are best left on the storyboards back at the office. A Casblanca remake/sequel? Get out of town. A Ben Hur re-imagining? Sadly, that one's nearing a release. Unfortunately, someone forgot to tell Warner Bros. that a Peter Pan remake was just as bad an idea. The result - Pan - never, ever captures the fun of the original, sacrificing story for only mediocre special effects and plenty of bad press. Rather than stick to a solid, traditional plot, Pan sticks us with several uncomfortable origin story facts: Captain Hook (Garrett Hedlund) actually has two hands and is a genuinely nice guy, and Peter (Levi Miller in his first role) - who wears an on-the-nose reference to his name around his neck - is an abandoned child in WWII England. His mother, a pseudo cameo in Amanda Seyfried, is a bad ass Neverland warrior who decides she can't protect the bo

Pan Pushed From July to October

Retelling of the Peter Pan tale gets the Hook. By Brandon Wolfe Warner Bros’ Pan , the live-action retelling of the oft-retold Peter Pan saga, has been pulled from its set release date of July 24 and will now open on October 9, the same day recently vacated by Vacation , which WB gave the exact opposite treatment to, moving it up to July. The studio perhaps felt that they would have a better shot at success opening outside of an unusually crowded July, or simply sensed that there was little awareness of or excitement about Pan brewing out there. In its official announcement, however, the studio cited the reason as “giving both the film and the filmmakers some extra breathing room.” Director Joe Wright said in a statement that he applauded the decision. “As you might expect, the fantastical story of Peter Pan involves very complex effects, and I did not want to compromise on quality in finishing the film. This allows me and my team the time to complete the movie and tell the

Pan Trailer & Character Posters For PAN Starring Hugh Jackman

With the Thanksgiving holiday this Thursday in the States, Trailer Thursday has clearly been swapped with Trailer Tuesday as a huge batch of new promos has just landed. One of the bigger ones, since it features the first proper footage from the movie, is for Peter Pan origin story Pan . Take a look at the teaser below, and find new stills and posters lurking lower down the page. Pan, directed by Atonement’s Joe Wright , aims to put a new spin on J.M. Barrie’s story, exploring how Neverland’s most famous young resident came to be. In this version, Peter ( Levi Miller ) is a lad in an orphanage abandoned by his mother, who has nevertheless left a note saying she hopes to come and reunite with him – cryptically in this world or another. But before that can happen, our hero is indeed whisked off to another world, as he’s kidnapped by the dread pirate Blackbeard ( Hugh Jackman , walking the line between panto and pulp). Put to work in the mines, he meets a charming, cocky, I
