First 5 Minutes From Unauthorized: Saved By The Bell Story

Just in time for the weekend, Lifetime has released the first five minutes of its behind-the-scenes Saved by the Bell television movie.

Watch the clip after the Jump...

The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story, airing Monday, Sept. 1, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, promises to expose the challenges of growing up under public scrutiny while trying to maintain a squeaky clean image of their characters on- and offscreen. It will also be told from "Dustin Diamond's" point of view, based on the actor's book Behind the Bell.

Dylan Everett (Degrassi: The Next Generation) stars as Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Sam Kindseth (Shameless) as Dustin Diamond, Julian Works (Paranormal Activity) as Mario Lopez, Alyssa Lynch as Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Tiera Skovbye (Supernatural) as Elizabeth Berkley and Taylor Russell McKenzie (Blink) as Lark Voorhies.

The scene, first posted on Lifetime's Facebook page Friday, opens in 1990 Cincinnati with the Saved by the Bell "stars" in a limo unsure of the reception they'll receive. That uncertainty quickly changes when they arrive to a mob of screaming teenage girls with homemade signs. (There's even a car jumper!) Two and a half minutes in, there's even a nod to the classic Zack Morris "time out" gimmick.

#Annabelle Trailer Has Arrived

With the release date less than a couple of months away now, Warner Bros. is kicking the promotion for Conjuring spin-off Annabelle up a gear with the second trailer. Prepare for creepy mannequin action and lots of demonic activity.

Annabelle follows John (Ward Horton) and Mia Form (Annabelle Wallis), a young couple happily expecting their first child. But when the beautiful (depending on how you look at it) vintage doll John buys for his wife attracts the attention of an obsessed satanic cult, things go scare-shaped for them and, more violently, their neighbours.

Surviving that initial incident, the couple moves to a new house, but discover that Annabelle has somehow made the trip with them. Sadly, they don’t at first make the connection between the creepy object and the horror that befell them last time, but they soon learn that the doll has a demon attached to it, one determined to make their lives a living hell. Just once it would be nice to meet a demon whose only concern is that we’ve remembered to lock the door behind us or set the DVR for the right show…

With John R. Leonetti inheriting directorial duties from James Wan and Gary Dauberman providing the script this time, Annabelle also features Alfre Woodard, Eric Ladin, Tony Amendola and Michelle Romano.

All-Star Cast Joins The Jungle Book:Origins

Warner Bros. has cast an entire zoo’s worth of actors for its adaptation of The Jungle Book, which Andy Serkis is directing.

Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris, Tom Hollander, Eddie Marsan and Peter Mullan are joining Benedict Cumberbatch to star as the animal characters in the feature. Rohan Chand, the young actor who starred opposite Jason Bateman in Bad Words, will star as the human boy Mowgli.

Serkis will also take on a role.

Callie Kloves wrote the script, adapting the Rudyard Kipling short stories, while her father, Steve Kloves, the screenwriter who wrote seven of the Harry Potter films for the studio, is producing with Jonathan Cavendish. The movie will employ a mix of motion capture, CG animation and live action.

Jungle Book centers on Mowgli, an orphaned boy raised by wolves who befriends members of the animal kingdom who help him grow up. Serkis will play Baloo the bear, and Bale will voice Bagheera, a fearsome panther, both of whom save Mowgli from the killer tiger Shere Khan (Cumberbatch) and teach him the law of the jungle.

Blanchett will voice Kaa, a sinister python who is also a friend to Mowgli, while Hollander will play Tabaqui, the jackal who is an underling of Shere Khan.

Mullan will be Akela, the leader of the wolf pack that raises Mowgli. Harris is the female wolf Nisha, while Marsan is her mate, Vihaan.

With the casting now complete, Warners’ Jungle Book is ready to go ape-to-ape with Disney, which is also mounting a live-action/CG hybrid with Jon Favreau in the director’s chair.

Jon Berg and Cate Adams are overseeing the project for Warners.

Jungle Book is a rare move for Bale , who last voiced a character in the English translation of Howl’s Moving Castle (2004). Blanchett voiced one of the key characters in this summer's How to Train Your Dragon 2.

If I Stay Review: Typical YA Fare Lacks Emotional Punch

Although well-intentioned, If I Stay is yet another hollow YA cryfest.
This has been the Summer of YA and the results have been meh - from Divergent to The Fault in Our Stars, 2014 has tried its best to bring in the teenagers, all while adults roll their eyes at the melodrama. If I Stay follows the same tired themes of teenage love mixed with tragedy, and the result is only slightly better than other submissions.

Cellist Mia (Chloe Grace Moretz) has a natural talent: given the instrument as an infant, her talents have grown quickly. Yet her social life is one of missed opportunities and long hours practicing, until she and rocker Adam (Jamie Blackley) kindle an unlikely love affair. What Adam doesn't know is that Mia has applied to Julliard, which will take her far away from her Portland roots; Adam's band is gaining notoriety, and soon the two realize their time is limited. Everything comes to a tragic halt when Mia's parents (Mireille Enos and Joshua Leonard) and brother are killed in a car accident, with Mia clinging to life in a coma. As she's forced into an out-of-body experience which allows her to move through her shattered life, Mia must decide if life is more important than the bright light of the after-world calling her to an unknown future.

Moretz does have the gravitas to carry a picture, but here that presence is ill-used and reduces her to a disembodied spirit who actually needs people to open doors for her one minute and can then transport herself to other times with no trouble. But we're not here to analyze metaphysics or the after-life - we're here to ball our brains out, but Stay lacks the emotional punch. If I Stay feels like a ABC After-School Special - it's filled with every teenage trope and cliché without ever making a solid case for why we should stick around. Sure there's the inevitable 'You can let go now' declaration from Grandfather Stacy Keach that will push the ladies over the edge, but the rest feels too amateurish to be moving or even effective. This is not Meet Joe Black or My Life by a longshot. Those will leave you in dribbling messes, while Stay will actually bore you in several places.

Director R.J. Cutler isn't all to blame, although so much of the interplay comes off as either forced or disingenuous. He fails to establish the rules of Mia's heightened state, granting her the ability to travel through time but forcing her to wait for doctors to open doors. Writer Shauna Cross doesn't exactly deliver a top script from the novel by Gayle Forman, relegating our actors to cheesy one-liners about love without really probing that connection beyond skin deep.

At the heart of these YA stories is the characters and their interaction in worlds they're just beginning to understand. Themes of love and struggle are common, which should produce ripe fruit in the form of solid character development. The trouble with Stay is that very little of this earns our tears or even respect. Moretz does the best she can with these many faults, making the production at least tolerable. At only 17, she represents the top of Hollywood's youth movement, but you can only do so much with crap. When Adam breaks out into a song that he wrote for her (although he promises that he can't write about things that make him happy), I felt my eyes roll unconsciously back into my head.

If I Stay tries to be the new Meet Joe Black and never touches it. Performances are solid but not overly memorable, and there's never a good enough case made for Mia to return to the land of the living or slip into the clichéd bright light that's just one more dull spot for this picture. It's the best of the YA films so far, but it's still not worth spending Summer movie dollars to endure.

If I Stay is rated PG-13 for thematic elements and some sexual material and has a runtime of 106 minutes.

Outcast Trailer Starring Nicholas Cage & Hayden Christensen

Here's another, in the form of Nick Powell's Outcast. Cage stars alongside Hayden Christensen and Yifei Liu as a battling medieval Crusader called The White Ghost. It's Season Of The Witch all over again... but in 12th-century China.

Cage and Christensen have retired from their killing-for-God career when the story starts, and on the evidence in this clip haven't seen each other for a while. They re-team, however, to help the children of a deposed Chinese emperor battle their murderous usurper uncle (Andy On).

Powell is a stunt-man and second-unit director with credits on Bourne, X-Men, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, and Paul WS Anderson's Three Musketeers and Resident Evil: Retribution. This is his debut as a fully-fledged director, and it's looking like his long experience of battle choreography has led to something fun... if not always for the right reasons.

James Dormer (the BBC Musketeers, 2011 David Bradley actioner The Holding) wrote the screenplay, and Paul Anderson's regular collaborator Jeremy Bolt is among the producers.

Below please find information on panels, screenings, artists & exhibitors and MondoCon exclusives.

PANELS

Designing Movies
Panelists: Geof Darrow, Jock, Mike Mignola, Alex Pardee, William Stout and Bernie Wrightson

It could be as small as a weapon or as big as an entire world, but each part of a film is designed by an artist. Who does that? How are the creatures, ships and landscapes of our shared dreams created? MondoCon sits down with six artists who have given form to some of the most iconic imagery in film. They will share stories and art, including pieces that have never been released publicly from the design phase on films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ghostbusters, The Matrix, Blade 2, Dredd 3D, Return of the Living Dead and more.

The Art of Toy-making
Panelists: Mike Mitchell, Brock Otterbacher, Dan Willett

Go behind the scenes on the world of collectible toys! The panelists will dive deep into Mondo's brand new toy line with photos and design images from the making of the first lineup of collectibles for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Iron Giant and Alfred Hitchcock. Artist Mike Mitchell will also talk about turning his Lil' Mikey illustration into a 3D figure. The future of Mondo's toy collectibles will be discussed with the announcement of a new vinyl figure from a beloved comic book property.

Geof Darrow's Shaolin Cowboy
Panelist: Geof Darrow

Renowned comic book creator (Hard Boilded, Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot) and conceptual film artist (The Matrix trilogy) Geof Darrow will discuss Shaolin Cowboy, including presenting 8 minutes of never-before-seen finished animation from an unproduced adaptation of the beloved cult comic. In 2009 Variety reported that the Wachowski siblings and Circle of Confusion were producing an animated feature of Shaolin Cowboy, but no one has ever seen this footage publicly... until now. Darrow will discuss his history with the project and his experience working on the animation in Japan. This is a unique opportunity for the world to get a first look at a potential anime classic that almost was.

Shaolin Cowboy follows an unnamed former Shaolin monk who wanders the land with a talking mule named Lord Evelyn Dunkirk Winniferd Esq. the Third. Having been "asked" to leave the Shaolin temple, he has since had a bounty placed on his head, which many are eager to collect. Given the Shaolin Cowboy's prowess in martial arts, however, this proves to be very difficult.

"I met Geof Darrow a year ago in San Antonio. During our talk, he mentioned that he once lived in Japan and was working on an anime. My brain broke at the thought of a Geof Darrow anime based on Shaolin Cowboy followed immediately by heartbreak when he said that funding was pulled and the project was canceled. I've always wondered what it would be like. What would a Geof Darrow drawing be like if animated? What would the Shaolin Cowboy look like in action? Good news. All of these questions will be answered at MondoCon," said Mondo CEO Justin Ishmael.

2001: A Lost Score
Panelist: Brian Satterwhite

Mondo is releasing the lost score for 2001: A Space Odyssey on vinyl for the first time ever!

Stanley Kubrick's seminal masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey is known for its classical musical cues as much as for its vivid imagery. What few people know is that those cues that are forever associated with the film were a last minute revision on the part of Kubrick. An original score exists, composed for the film by the late composer Alex North (A Streetcar Named Desire, Spartacus) that was abandoned during post-production. North did not know his score was discarded until he saw the film's premiere screening.

Composer and writer Brian Satterwhite will host a panel on the subject, featuring a live presentation of several scenes from 2001: A Space Odyssey with the lost score meticulously reintegrated back to the film to show what could have been.

Working with North's estate, Mondo will release "Music for 2001: A Space Odyssey" in a deluxe package, complete with liner notes by Jon Burlingame. The vinyl will be available for sale at the Mondo booth.

Godzilla 1983
Panelist: William Stout

Long before Gareth Edwards and even Roland Emmerich took on the iconic monster, Godzilla was set to make landfall on American soil, but it wasn't his time. Writer Fred Dekker, FX artist Rick Baker and conceptual artist William Stout were just some of the big names involved in an early attempt at a US-produced feature film in the 1980s that few were even aware existed until now.

Artist William Stout will take the audience through the entire feature film with over one hundred storyboards and conceptual art designs that he created along with Dave Stevens (creator of The Rocketeer) and Doug Widley (creator of Johnny Quest)

Mondo Talk: Art Direct a Poster Live!
Panelists: Justin Ishmael, Mitch Putnam, Rob Jones

Mondo Creative Directors Justin Ishmael, Mitch Putnam and Rob Jones will discuss the creative process behind Mondo's work, showing how the team works with artists to arrive at final images. The panel will include a presentation of alternate poster concepts from previously released prints and reveal new poster designs. The audience will also have the unique opportunity to "art direct" a project live during the panel, adding their feedback and voting on their favorite concept. Mondo will then produce the fan-created project.

SCREENINGS
Tickets for the evening screenings will be made available to badge holders ONLY via Eventbrite before the convention. Stay tuned to the MondoCon website and @MondoConAustin for screening times, ticket release dates and additional screening announcements.

MondoCon will have the world premiere screening of this documentary on Saturday, September 20. The screening will be free to badge holders with the Mondo poster for the event sold separately following the film. The trailer for FUTURE SHOCK! The Story of 2000AD can be found here.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with Live Original Score
The most terrifying film of all time will be presented as you have never seen or heard it before. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will be shown remastered in 4K with an original score performed live at MondoCon on Sunday, September 21. Composers Anton Maoif and Umberto created a completely new score for the film over the course of the last year after conceiving of the idea with Death Waltz records at Beyond Fest last October. This is the first time it will be heard anywhere. The film will also play with the live score at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles on September 27.

Death Waltz records has produced the score and will make it available exclusively at the two shows in Austin and LA. Only 800 copies will be created. The exclusive Death Waltz vinyl will be included in the cost of admission. View a trailer for this very special event here and listen to three tracks from new score on Sound Cloud.

#AndersonCooper Appears In BLACK WIDOW #12

Anderson Cooper Makes His Marvel Comics Debut in November’s BLACK WIDOW #12!
This November, CNN’s own Anderson Cooper makes his Marvel Universe debut for a special, Marvel Comics only, investigative report that begs the question – is the Black Widow truly the Avenger we want? It all happens in BLACK WIDOW #12, as the world renowned journalist and news anchor exposes the tangled web of the Widow’s past discretions, courtesy of critically acclaimed creators Nathan Edmondson and Phil Noto.

Though she now walks a righteous path in her quest for atonement, her past is paved with bloody memories. Though allegedly reformed, is a former KGB operative and assassin the right Avenger to protect the American people? Where do her allegiances truly lie? Those questions and more will be answered in November’s issue!

“It’s Anderson doing what he does best: looking for the truth and reporting on events,” says series writer Nathan Edmondson in an interview with Marvel.com. “We imagine that in Black Widow’s world, as would be the case with many other Avengers, things she does can’t be ignored by the media and all it takes is somebody who knows how to ask the right questions to make her world very uncomfortable for her but in a way that is perhaps not unjust.”

Currently the anchor on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360°, the Emmy Award winning Cooper has spent many years broadcasting from around the world, reporting on up-to-the-minute news and current events.
“I found that he was a comic book fan and reader and shared some of my work with him over a year ago,” adds Edmondson on his inclusion of Cooper in BLACK WIDOW #12. “Then as we were strategizing upcoming issues of Black Widow I had this idea for an opportunity to involve him directly in the book. He was thrilled with the idea.”

Once a resident of the shadows, the Black Widow’s operations have been brought into the light like never before. With the investigation into her actions underway, what will the Avengers do when they learn how she’s been spending her days off? Find out when Anderson Cooper makes his Marvel Universe debut in BLACK WIDOW #12 this November!

History's REBUILDING THE WORLD TRADE CENTER Premieres 9-11

REBUILDING THE WORLD TRADE CENTER

Marcus Robinson’s Poignant Film Chronicles 8 Years of Construction; Premieres Thursday, September 11, at 6 p.m. on History

REBUILDING THE WORLD TRADE CENTER, Marcus Robinson’s inspiring documentary chronicling the reconstruction of the World Trade Center and restoration of the New York City skyline, premieres Thursday, September 11, at 6 p.m. ET/PT on HISTORY. The two-hour special – eight years in the making, from laying of the first foundation to triumphantly topping the gleaming new 104-story One World Trade Center with its spire – focuses on the construction workers who performed the Herculean task. They were the men and women who did the heavy lifting once the dream to rebuild was set into motion on the 16-acre site that witnessed the worst terrorist attack on American soil.

Robinson, an Irish artist and filmmaker renowned for architectural and industrial photography, arrived on the site in 2006, five years after the original World Trade Center was destroyed in the September 11 attacks. He placed 13 cameras throughout the site to document eight years of progress with stunning time-lapse imagery, and shadowed workers every step of the way as they turned a pile of ashes into a towering testament to imagination and resilience.

REBUILDING THE WORLD TRADE CENTER not only captures the lyrical beauty of the city’s new architectural gems, but also shares poignant personal stories from the unsung heroes of the project – the iron workers, crane operators, carpenters and surveyors, many of whom are second-generation construction workers whose parents and grandparents helped put up the original World Trade Center. For them, this was more than just another construction site, more than just another complex of buildings, more than just another job. They were on “sacred ground” and this was an opportunity to give the city and the entire country closure.

REBUILDING THE WORLD TRADE CENTER is filmed, produced and directed by Marcus Robinson. It is produced by Lion Television LLC, an All3 Media Group Company, for HISTORY. Executive producers for HISTORY are Susan Werbe, Molly Thompson and Dirk Hoogstra. Executive producer is Nick Catliff.

#BATMANVSUPERMAN Set Photo

As filming continues in Detroit on “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,” more and more set photos are hitting the web. First there were a handful that showed Ben Affleck as non-Batman Bruce Wayne,.

Nothing too exciting, but today we finally got some real superhero stuff.

Henry Cavill took a stroll to his trailer, trying and failing to keep his flowing Kryptonian garb under the black robe meant to stop onlookers from getting photos. But everyone in the world knows what Superman looks like. Why make Cavill throw on the extra layer? You mean Superman’s costume looks almost identical to the one in “Man of Steel”!?

As a number of side-by-sides have already pointed out, Superman’s costume in “Dawn of Justice” is slightly different than the one in “Man of Steel,” which doesn’t make sense if you think about it, right? Superman found his suit on that 18,000-year-old ship. How is there a new one? Maybe we’ll get an explanation in “Dawn of Justice.”

Where ever Kal-El did pick up this new suit, they did a generous job of shading it. This version of the costume is definitely painted to exaggerate Cavill’s musculature. It’s likely that this is just a particular model of that costume that emphasizes that, but it’s interesting to note.

“Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” opens in theaters on March 25, 2016.

TV Review: The Leftovers “Cairo”

TV Review: The Leftovers “Cairo”
By: Brandon Wolfe

It would appear that Kevin Garvey is a bit more messed up in the head than we quite realized. While we had previously been made aware of gaps in his memory, resulting in those lost shirts and the appearance of that irate dog tied to his front porch, we see this week that Kevin’s lost time appears to be more dangerous than anyone thought. Awoken by Dean the dog-shooting mystery man (whose appearances often seem to coincide with Kevin’s forgotten escapades), Kevin finds himself in the middle of the woods. When he asks Dean how he got there, a confused and somewhat hurt Dean fills him in: the two of them kidnapped Patti, the silently snide leader of the Guilty Remnant, the night before, roughed her up and tied her to a chair in a cabin Kevin that visited as a child. Dean wants to know what happens next, but a stunned Kevin is still trying to process what happened before.

Kevin implores Patti that he is sorry for what he has done and asks that they just forget about the whole thing. But Patti breaks her vow of silence to bitterly spit in Kevin’s face (after literally spitting in his face) that the first thing she will do upon returning to civilization will be to tell the authorities what Kevin has done to her, seeing to it that he will lose both his job and custody of his daughter. Dean, who notes that he considers himself something of a guardian angel (perhaps a loaded turn of phrase, since we learn from Patti that the GR couldn’t find any records of his existence prior to his appearance in Mapleton), submits to Kevin that Patti must die. Kevin does not like this idea. He still considers himself a decent man, in spite of whatever he did while in his fugue state. Retreating briefly into the woods, Kevin finally locates his missing white shirts, all of them decorating the trees like ‘Blair Witch’ stick figures. These episodes of Kevin’s have been going on for some time now and are getting worse. Kevin returns to the cabin to find that Dean has made the decision for him and has placed a plastic bag over Patti’s head, slowly killing her. Kevin fights off Dean and saves Patti’s life, not that this endears him to her any more.

This little standoff threatens to make ‘The Leftovers’ interesting for a bit. Kevin’s elusive dark side and his hostile tête-à-tête with a suddenly very talkative Patti give this listless series a momentary shot in the arm. When Patti does open her mouth, she spews venom, and you start to realize how wasted the GR are rendered as opposing forces by the decision to keep them silent. As Kevin talks to Patti, he asks about the GR’s mission and Patti ultimately brings us back to the series’ default state of eye-glazing tediousness by going off on an endless, vaguely worded monologue about the GR’s modus operandi that Kevin rightly calls out as a bunch of B.S. But the show calling itself out for its characters’ blathered, obliquely defined nonsense doesn’t correct the problem that the show employs blathered, obliquely defined nonsense far too often.

We do get a few nuggets of interest from the conversation. Gladys’ murder a few episodes back wasn’t performed by anti-GR vigilantes as previously thought, but by the GR themselves. The group seeks to make martyrs of themselves, which is precisely why Patti actively goads Kevin into killing her. But Kevin won’t do it. He takes out a large knife and approaches her ominously, yet it’s just for dramatic effect as he uses it to cut her free from her binds. Patti isn’t giving up that easily, however, so she takes a shard of glass from the floor and plunges it into her own throat, leaving Kevin helpless to save her. It’s a shocking moment to be sure, but it doesn’t feel properly earned, and it removes Patti, one of the more interesting characters on the show even when largely silent, from the equation, which won’t assist ‘The Leftovers’ in its quest to make me stop yawning.

In other Garvey/GR news (since these are the only two elements that ‘The Leftovers’ finds to be of interest), Jill Garvey has chosen to grill her dad’s new girlfriend, Nora Durst, about that gun Jill noticed in her purse weeks earlier. The gun is gone now that Nora has let go of her pain subsequent to her encounter with Holy Wayne, a development that seems to trouble Jill enough to send her into the arms of the GR and a reunion with her mother. Nothing about this reveal makes a lot of sense. The crux of Jill’s decision seems to be her inability to comprehend how Nora, someone who lost everything to the Departure, could move forward with her life. Considering that Jill didn’t lose anyone to the Departure (at least not directly and permanently), her having such an extreme reaction to the concept of someone else letting go of grief seems a leap. But then, the series hasn’t made any convincing argument on why anyone would join the GR, so why should it start now? At least this will make one obnoxious teenager on this show silent.

Hopefully the show will do a better job of keeping Liv Tyler’s Meg silent. When we meet her this week, she is viciously attacking Rev. Matt and shouting obscenities over something he wrote in his flyers about her mother, who passed away the day before the Departure. Liv Tyler, never the strongest actress in the business to begin with, is insufferably shrill in her screeching fits. Laurie Garvey tells Meg (non-verbally, of course; Laurie has yet to break her vow of silence once in the series, undoubtedly building to a big moment in the future when she does) that violence is for the weak and that she must apologize to Matt for her actions, which she does, grudgingly. But talking is now in Meg’s blood, so she chooses to continue gabbing to Laurie out loud before being harshly chastised to shut up. Yet before she is silenced, Meg reveals that the GR is planning a big event for Memorial Day, an event that involves many of those life-model replicas mentioned in the margins of the series. As with everything on ‘The Leftovers’ (and as is Damon Lindelof’s wont), we must make do with irksomely enigmatic hints at things to come rather than anything concrete. And considering that the series was just renewed for a second season, expect everything to get drawn out beyond all reason. Except unlike ‘Lost’, the meager mysteries of ‘The Leftovers’ are virtually impossible to care about, so the show’s stall tactics and parceled-out information neglect to do it a single favor. Pity the show doesn’t realize that.

Adrianne Palicki Joins Agents Of SHIELD

ABC's Agents of SHIELD is bringing in another character from the comics.

Friday Night Lights favorite and comic book fan Adrianne Palicki has been tapped to guest-star as Marvel superspy Bobbi Morse, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Best known to comics fans as Mockingbird, Palicki's character will appear in the fifth episode of the Marvel procedural with the potential to return; the episode will find her popping in perhaps not as an ally to Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team.

Mark Wahlberg In Talks To Star In Deepwater Horizon

The 2010 explosion on the gigantic Gulf of Mexico oil rig Deepwater Horizon made headlines around the world not only for the immediate tragedy of workers who lost their lives in the accident, but for the wider damage caused to the local environment. A film about the tragedy was pushed into development a couple of years ago and Mark Wahlberg is now in talks to star.

All Is Lost director J.C. Chandor is overseeing the film, which is now likely to feature Wahlberg as the second-in-command on the rig in the 48 hours up leading up to the disaster and the day itself. The behind-the-scenes tale will highlight stories of real-life heroism around the incident, which were not made public at the time but appeared in the script’s source material, the New York Times article Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour. The paper’s piece chronicled how 11 people were killed and 16 injured when the rig blew.

Chandor is currently looking to kick off filming in either late spring or early summer next year, to give him time to finish his latest, A Most Violent Year, and to prepare to make Deepwater. Wahlberg, last seen in Transformers: Age Of Extinction, will show up in William Monahan’s Mojave as well as The Gambler and Seth MacFarlane’s comedy sequel Ted 2, which is shooting now.
