Alien Prequel Retitled Prometheus

The Alien prequel is dead and a new Ridley Scott project has been reborn. Fox has announced that instead of making a much-talked about Alien movie, the project has been reconfigured as an original sci-fi movie, titled Prometheus , with Scott still at the helm and with Noomi Rapace to star. Showing how serious it is about the movie, Fox has set a March 9, 2012 release date. Damon Lindelof is working together with Scott on the new script, which was originally written by Jon Spaihts and based on an idea by Scott. It was under Lindelof that the project morphed into something more original. “While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place,” said Scott in a statement. “The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn't be more pleased to have found the s

Scott Favors Noomi Rapace For The Lead In Upcoming Alien Prequel

Ridley Scott Favors Noomi Rapace For Lead Role 20th Century Fox and director Ridley Scott have just about completed meetings with actresses to find the Ripley-like heroine for the 3D Alien prequel . I'm told that, so far, Scott's favorite is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace . The other names being whispered range from Carey Mulligan to Abbie Cornish, Natalie Portman and Tron: Legacy star Olivia Wilde , the latter of whom met this week. Deadline revealed early this month that Rapace -- who got the female lead in Sherlock Holmes 2 -- was a possibility for Alien. Now, the studio will be heavily involved in the ultimate decision, and I'm told that Rapace's English is a consideration. Please Leave A Comment- Source- Deadline

Natalie Portman Has The Upper Hand For Lead Role In Upcoming Alien Prequel

Natalie Portman Has The Upper Hand For Lead Role In Upcoming Alien Prequel Vulture just got word: Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof turned in his new draft of the screenplay for Ridley Scott's Alien prequel on Saturday, and 20th Century Fox execs are very pleased with it indeed! We’re told all involved parties have been made to sign nondisclosure agreements about the plot, but our spies have been able to glean several interesting nuggets about the project, which is set roughly 35 years before Scott’s dystopic classic. Here's what we know ... One reason Fox execs are so thrilled with Lindelof’s Alien draft is that, not only is it creatively engaging, but it adds no expensive "set pieces" — production-speak for elaborate, effects-heavy action sequences that add millions to the cost of a film — to the movie. 20th Century Fox and Scott have been wrangling over the director’s proposed budget. One insider familiar with the situation puts Scott’s suggested budget at bet

Ridley Scott Talks Alien Prequel

Ridley Scott Talks Alien Prequel Ridley Scott is going back to where it all started and will direct the prequel to his "Alien".  He recently spoke to MTV and gave us some great insight to the upcoming film. Here's what Scott had to say about where the production is currently at. As we speak, I've got a pile of pages next to me; it's like the fourth draft. It's a work in progress, but we're not dreaming it up anymore. We know what the story is. We're now actually trying to improve the three acts and make the characters better, build it up to something [we can shoot]. It's a work in progress, but we're actually making the film. There's no question about it, we're going to make the film. He goes on to explain that he is working on getting the screenplay complete so they can find out how much is will cost to make the film. He's also got people working on the films designs. The story is set, the characters are in place, and here

Ridley Scott's Alien Prequel To Be In 3D

Ridley Scott's Alien Prequel To Be In 3D Put the rumors to rest as to whether H.R. Giger's metamorph will be truly leaping out of your screen in Ridley Scott's pending Alien prequel: "Ridley's doing the next Alien in 3D." Christian told me. When I asked the director if he thought the new prequel could set the Alien franchise straight again, he responded: "I do. Ridley told me some of his ideas when we were here in Toronto. He has a very clear understanding of where this should go. They kind of stopped dead one of the greatest horror franchises there's ever been, and it had legs to go on. So I'm hoping he'll revive another three. The world certainly wants it, and the fans want it - everybody. " Christian, who created the 'cannibalisation' technique of using stripped-out WWII bombers to dress SF movie classics Star Wars and Alien, is quite firm about the Alien prequel being in 3D, but less committed about it constituting the start
