That's A Wrap For Mark Ruffalo From The Set Of Thor: Ragnarok

Nothing gold can stay, much to the chagrin of Mark Ruffalo, who recently wrapped production on Thor: Ragnarok via THR

The third Thor film has been shooting in New Zealand — a production that has been well-documented on Instagram and Twitter by the cast and crew.

Ruffalo commemorated his time on set with several Instagram posts, including selfies with director Taika Waititi, co-star Chris Hemsworth (and his short hair) and one with the big, green guy himself with a caption that reads, "Laugh now, cry later."

Even though Hulk has wrapped, there is still more filming to be done on Ragnarok, which will see the return of Hemsworth and the God of Thunder, along with franchise newcomers Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum and Tessa Thompson, the latter of whom will be playing the heroine Valkyrie.

Audiences can get in on the fun when Ragnarok hits theaters Nov 3, 2017.

First Look At Hot Rod From Transformers: The Last Knight

Looks like Michael Bay is adding another Autobot from the sprawling roster of Robots In Disguise to Transformers: The Last Knight. And to be honest, it's one we thought he'd have included long before now: Hot Rod.

As his description in the image above shows, Hot Rod will have his usual brash personality, and that he'll be supporting Bumblebee, which makes sense. We don't yet know what his vehicle form will be, but if we had to guess, we'd take a shot at some custom concept car.

The Last Knight will bring together Age Of Extinction's Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) with previous film veterans Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and Epps (Tyrese Gibson) and new humans Isabela Moner, Jerrod Carmichael, Laura Haddock and Anthony Hopkins.

As for the robots, we can expect Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Drift, Megatron, Barricade and Onslaught, plus newcomer Sqweeks (or Squeeks, depending on who you ask).

Rebel Wilson To Star In Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Remake

MGM is developing a remake of the 1988 comedy classic “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” with Rebel Wilson attached to star according to Variety.

Steve Martin and Michael Caine teamed up in the original “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” which follows two con men trying to swindle a heiress out of her money. The 1988 film was itself a remake of the script for Marlon Brando and David Niven’s 1964 film “Bedtime Story.”

The updated remake brings con artistry to the 21st century — two female scam artists, one low rent and the other high class, compete to swindle a naive tech prodigy out of his fortune.

Wilson is also attached to star in a remake of the Goldie Hawn movie “Private Benjamin.”

Roger Birnbaum and Wilson are producing. The former will produce through his Pin High Productions. Jac Schaeffer penned the screenplay.

Wilson was last seen in “How to Be Single” for New Line Cinema/MGM and “Pitch Perfect 2” for Universal. She is represented by WME and Slone, Offer, Weber, and Dern, LLP.

Schaeffer most recently wrote the science-fiction comedy “The Shower” starring Anne Hathaway for Warner Bros.

Suicide Squad Blame Game Already Happening

THR is reporting the upheaval like that behind Warner Bros.'s DC team-up is becoming a staple of studio franchise filmmaking.

"Better late than never." That was one Warner Bros. executive's reaction to the excitement at Suicide Squad's splashy Aug. 1 premiere in New York. Tracking indicates the film could open to more than $140 million domestic and potentially hand the studio its first unequivocal megahit since American Sniper's $547.4 million in December 2014. With March's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice grossing $873 million worldwide but failing to impress audiences or reach the hoped-for $1 billion mark, Warners still urgently needs to jump-start its critical DC Comics universe, raising the stakes for Suicide Squad, which cost at least $175 million to make.

Movie Review: #SuicideSquad-

Yet if the villain team-up ultimately works — and it has drawn some harsh early reviews — it will be in spite of the kind of behind-the-scenes drama that is becoming typical for giant franchise movies that now are the main focus of the studio business: a production schedule engineered to meet an ambitious release date; a director, David Ayer (Fury), untested in making tentpole movies; and studio executives, brimming with anxiety, who are ready to intercede forcefully as they attempt to protect a branded asset. Often, efforts to fix perceived problems ratchet up costs, which drive anxiety ever higher. In extreme cases, such as Fox's troubled Fantastic Four, the intervention is so aggressive that it becomes unclear what it means to be the director. (In each such case, studios are careful to stress that the credited director is on-scene and in charge, which is essential to avoid DGA issues. And the wise director plays along.)

So despite grueling moments, multiple editors and competing cuts, the production of Suicide Squad barely stands out in today's landscape. In a joint statement to THR, Ayer and Warners production president Greg Silverman say: "This was an amazing experience. We did a lot of experimentation and collaboration along the way. But we are both very proud of the result. This is a David Ayer film, and Warners is proud to present it."

Warners chief Kevin Tsujihara announced the project in October 2014 as part of a slate of 10 DC films stretching into 2020. Though the studio believed there was enough time to get the movie done, a source with ties to the project says it was a sprint from the start. "[Ayer] wrote the script in like, six weeks, and they just went," he says, arguing that the whole process would have benefited if Ayer, 48, had been given more time to work. But another source closely involved with the film says once it was dated, pushing back the release was not an option: "It's not just that you've told the public the movie is coming, you've made huge deals around the world with huge branding partners, with merchandise partners. It's a really big deal to move a tentpole date."

In Ayer, Warners enlisted a director who had never made a giant, effects-packed action movie. Hiring filmmakers who lack such experience is the trend, and it's often out of necessity. "There are a lot of people who don't want to direct those movies and that's a huge problem," says one producer with franchise experience. "A lot of the proven guys are back-to-back with their stuff, or they want to develop it for five years, and there's a machine that has to be fed. And there's the economics." Seasoned directors are expensive, meaning studios turn to those with less experience, relying on instinct that they will be up to the job. Sometimes it works (Colin Trevorrow on Jurassic World), and sometimes it doesn't (James Bobin on Alice Through the Looking Glass).

A source with knowledge of events says Warners executives, nervous from the start, grew more anxious after they were blindsided and deeply rattled by the tepid response to BvS. "Kevin was really pissed about damage to the brand," says one executive close to the studio. A key concern for Warners executives was that Suicide Squad didn't deliver on the fun, edgy tone promised in the strong teaser trailer for the film. So while Ayer pursued his original vision, Warners set about working on a different cut, with an assist from Trailer Park, the company that had made the teaser.

By the time the film was done, multiple editors had been brought into the process, though only John Gilroy is credited. (A source says he left by the end of the process and that the final editor was Michael Tronick.) "When you have big tentpoles and time pressure, you pull in resources from every which way you can," says this source. "You can't do it the way it used to be, with one editor and one assistant editor."

In May, Ayer's more somber version and a lighter, studio-favored version were tested with audiences in Northern California. "If there are multiple opinions that aren't in sync, you go down multiple tracks — two tracks at least," says an insider. "That was the case here for a period of time, always trying to get to a place where you have consensus." Those associated with the film insist Ayer agreed to and participated in the process. Once feedback on the two versions was analyzed, it became clear it was possible to get to "a very common-ground place." (The studio-favored version with more characters introduced early in the film and jazzed-up graphics won.) Getting to that place of consensus, however, required millions of dollars worth of additional photography.

Other sources describe a fraught process — one cites "a lot of panic and ego instead of calmly addressing the tonal issue." Clearly all wasn't sitting right with Ayer, who in June suddenly dropped his longtime agent at CAA and defected to WME, though the agency won him back in a day. "He was under a lot — a lot — of pressure," says one person with knowledge of the situation, arguing that Ayer was exhausted and needed time to process conflicting ideas.

And there may have been other strains. Just weeks before the two versions were tested, Warners declined to ante up for Ayer's next project, Bright, which will reunite him with Squad star Will Smith. He ended up at Netflix, which made a staggering $90 million deal. Nonetheless, a day or two after Ayer fired and rehired CAA, another cut of the film was screened for a test audience, and sources say the results were strong enough that there was an upbeat plane ride back to Los Angeles.

Now the question is whether the film will deliver for an industry thirsty for something, anything, that will work in a summer bereft of live-action hits. Though reviews suggest the competing visions for the movie may have taken a toll (THR's critic calls the film "puzzlingly confused"), BTIG analyst Rich Greenfield says, "I've learned long ago there is not always a connections between reviews and box office and financial success." At the same time, it is imperative for Warners to build DC movies fans love like they do the Marvel pics.

Even on the day of the premiere, one insider fretted about whether Suicide Squad would mirror BvS' huge opening and weak legs. Another veteran says the goal is survival: "The movie's got to do $750 million, $800 million to break even. If they get anywhere close to that, they'll consider it a win."

What's Going On With Rogue One? Who's Really In Control

Though we learned back in June that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story would be undergoing some re-shoots, Disney and Lucasfilm have kept largely quiet about the extent of filmmaker Tony Gilroy's involvement, but according to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, he's had more to do than we all thought.

Director Gareth Edwards was the main man behind the camera for the main shoot and is still heavily involved with the movie, but Gilroy has reportedly been given more input into the editing process, having been present for the re-shoots.

Yet from the sounds of it, this is not Gilroy being parachuted in to take over control of the film; he's simply working alongside Edwards, as he did on Godzilla, to hone its final form. "There are not two separate editing rooms; they are all in there with their ideas," says one source. "Tony's a strong force, but they're all working together."

The new footage is apparently tackling whatever issues Edwards and his team identified with the movie after the initial shoot, and the report mentions the ending as a big factor.

First Look: Helen Mirren In Fast 8

Eyebrows cantilevered higher than some bridges (with cars leaping over the gap) when Helen Mirren revealed that she would be part of the cast for the latest Fast & Furious outing. But she wasn't kidding, and now Vin Diesel has taken to Instagram with a picture of his Dominic Toretto and Mirren's mysterious character.

Neither Diesel nor Mirren has said anything about what she'll be doing in the film, though her hopes (and ours) were crushed slightly when she recently told Entertainment Weekly that she won't get to drive as part of her small role in the movie. “I wanted to be driving, but unfortunately, I’m not,” she said. “Maybe that will come in the future, in Fast & Furious 12... I’m probably one of the few people on the set who know how to drive a gearshift car. I doubt the Rock knows... But I do. I know how to double declutch.” Let's get #HelOnWheels trending, folks...

Fast 8, which is still shooting, includes returning veterans Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, more recent additions Nathalie Emmanuel and Kurt Russell and new franchise faces Charlize Theron, Scott Eastwood and Kristofer Hivju.

FANTASTIC BEASTS SEQUEL IS IN THE WORKS

THE NEXT FILM IN THE “FANTASTIC BEASTS” SERIES IS IN THE WORKS, BEING WRITTEN BY J.K. ROWLING

The Next Adventure Will Open Worldwide on November 16, 2018

The “Fantastic Beasts” Film Series Adds to the Global Expansion of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.

As anticipation builds for the November 18th release of Warner Bros. Pictures’ adventure “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” the Studio has announced plans to return to J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World for the next film in the series, slated for worldwide release on November 16, 2018. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Wizarding world creator J.K. Rowling, who made her screenwriting debut on the first film, is scripting the sequel.

The second “Fantastic Beasts” movie moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.

Director David Yates (the final four “Harry Potter” films) will again take the helm, having recently completed work on “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” The new film will also reunite producers David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram. Neil Blair, Rick Senat and Danny Cohen will serve as executive producers.

The “Fantastic Beasts” franchise is an important part of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, a brand which continues to expand. The new play, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two,” has just opened to rave reviews in London, drawing rapturous applause in sold out performances, and the script of the play, just published, has already seen unprecedented sales for a script book. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme parks at Universal Studios in Orlando, Hollywood and Osaka, Japan, continue to entertain record crowds and Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter offers another extremely popular experience for fans of all ages. There is much more on the horizon, all highlighting that the global interest in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World in every medium is stronger than ever.

The “Fantastic Beasts” films will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Video: @UncleBillys HELL OR HIGH WATER – Texas LAWgerHELL OR HIGH WATER

Watch how Uncle Billy’s Brewery and Smokehouse crafted the one and only HELL OR HIGH WATER – Texas LAWger:

Crafted with the outlaw inspiration of the new film HELL OR HIGH WATER, Uncle Billy’s Brewery and Smokehouse has created a new lager that’s so Texas, it’s brewed with prickly pear cactus. As with most traditional German style lagers, this one is crisp and bright while the prickly pear gives it a rustic earthiness with a refreshing and balanced finish.

More on Uncle Billy’s Brewery and Smokehouse:

Founded in 2006, Uncle Billy’s Brewersy and Smokehouse is located in the heart of Austin’s funkiest restaurant row on Barton Spring’s Road and is inspired by William “Uncle Billy” Barton, whose 1830’s tract included the renowned springs. Uncle Billy’s offers the perfect combination of award-winning, craft beers and delicious, slow-smoked Texas barbeque.

Once dubbed the underground “mayor of New York,” Danny Fields (née Feinberg) has played a pivotal role in the music and culture of the late 20th century, working for The Doors, Cream, Lou Reed, and Nico, and managing groundbreaking artists like The Stooges, MC5 and The Ramones. DANNY SAYS follows Fields from Harvard Law dropout, to “hippie yenta” at Warhol’s Factory, to Director of Publicity at Elektra Records, to punk pioneer and beyond. Led by Fields’ hilariously droll commentary and largely crafted from over 250 hours of interviews and items from his immense archive (thousands of photographs, audio cassettes and ephemera), the film features outrageous anecdotes recounted by Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Judy Collins, Tommy Ramone, Lenny Kaye, Wayne Kramer, and John Cameron Mitchell, among many others. They tell the wild story of a man whose taste and opinion, once deemed defiant and radical, turned out to have been prescient.

TV Review: Stranger Things

Netflix series is well-done but too beholden to other things.

Review by Brandon Wolfe

Stranger Things, Netflix’s latest attempt to usurp broadcast television for all your serialized needs, wears its influences proudly on its sleeve. The series is a hodgepodge of 1980s pop-culture mainstays, primarily Steven Spielberg’s Amblin output, Stephen King’s earlier work and Stand By Me. Spielberg gets most of the glory here, all told. Stranger Things is especially interested in training its Spielbergian cut-through-the-darkness-and-fog flashlight beams on E.T., Gremlins and The Goonies, with a dash of Poltergeist for good measure. It aims to pull some Tarantino alchemy by bending blatant homage into something bold and original. A noble goal to be sure, but not one the series quite achieves.

It’s 1983 in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana and we are introduced to a foursome of lovable nerds, Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Will (Noah Schnapp), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and lisping, front-toothless Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo, the standout). This motley crew isn’t terribly popular at school, but finds solace in each other’s company, whiling away hours with role-playing games in Mike’s basement and communicating via walkie-talkies. After a mysterious incident transpires at a clandestine government facility just outside of town (shades of King’s The Mist), Will vanishes one night after being pursued by a seemingly unearthly assailant. His mother Joyce (Winona Ryder) becomes unhinged with grief and worry while gruff police chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) leads the manhunt. Will’s three friends take it upon themselves to find their friend, but instead they find a strange young girl (Millie Bobby Brown) in the woods, with a shaved head, a haunted aura and a limited vocabulary. The boys quickly surmise that this girl, who calls herself Eleven, is mixed up in all of this and might be the key to finding Will.

Stranger Things is evoking many things, but E.T. is probably chief among its role models. Eleven essentially fills the same role as the alien in that film, standing as a strange, benevolent, otherworldly figure for them to befriend and hide out from their parents, while also protecting from the clutches of sinister government forces, headed up here by Matthew Modine. The series has the precise same aim as J.J. Abrams’ own ‘80s-set Amblin tribute Super 8. That film also had a nerdy group of kids in a small town contending with a runaway monster, shady military figures, a troubled chief of police and concerned parents in an adventure brazenly designed to harken back to the pop culture of the era in which it depicts. Stranger Things is more successful at this game than the muddled, forgettable Super 8 was, but not by enough. By miring itself in reverence in other works, it often doesn’t emerge as its own unique entity. Just because you tackle Spielberg don’t make you Spielberg.

The mythology of the series isn’t strong enough to elevate it beyond its inspirations. We learn that the government officials presiding over Hawkins Laboratories, headed up forebodingly by Modine’s spookily blank Dr. Brenner, have cracked interdimensional travel, harnessing Eleven’s psychic powers to break through to “the Upside Down,” a shadowy parallel universe that is home to the monster—who resembles a cross between a miniature Cloverfield monster and a Venus flytrap—who freely traverses both worlds. As the series digs deeper and deeper into the particulars of what’s going on, it becomes increasingly clear that nothing of what it’s doing is all that novel. Eleven’s gifts, the monster, the Upside Down, the way unseen forces seem to haunt Joyce’s house, it’s all too familiar, too lacking in fresh idiosyncrasy. By the time our heroes are visiting the other dimension or confronting its scaly occupant, we’re waiting for some spark of newness to ignite and it never quite does.

Where Stranger Things excels is in the details. It recreates the early 1980s in loving and painstaking detail, right down to the commercials and frozen food logos inherent to the era. The hairstyles and clothing are all period-accurate, cutting no corners the way that many ‘80s-set productions often do. And even though the series isn’t shy about letting then-contemporary references to pop culture fly, its allusions all feel organic, not winky in that Wedding Singer way. Its amazing synthwave score also calls to mind the John Carpenter films of the day. The manner in which Stranger Things opens a gateway to the strange and extraordinary dimension of 1983 is one of its biggest strengths.

Its other biggest strength lies with its cast. The five principal child actors are all engaging and authentic, and the burgeoning first-love relationship between Mike and Eleven carries with it some of that old Wonder Years sweetness. Ryder is the biggest name among the adult cast (apart from Modine, who never breaks through the barriers separating character from archetype), but her performance is so constantly locked into parental hysteria that it grows a bit wearying. However, the greatest player in Stranger Things has to be Harbour’s Hopper, a born protector with just enough of an angry, dangerous edge to keep him intriguing.

Stranger Things ends on an ambiguous note, essentially making plain the intentions for a second season. I can’t help but wonder if the series might work best as a one-off, even if its positive reception makes that impossible. There is little of its existing mythology that seems to warrant further exploration and it has basically squeezed every last drop of Spielberg Juice from its influences. It feels like it accomplished everything it set out to do, leaving little on the table for future use. As hung up on Steven Spielberg as it is, it’s worth noting that the maestro never made a second E.T. movie. Maybe take that fact as your inspiration.

The Weinstein Company released a new film clip from their film "Hands Of Stone," starring Robert De Niro as boxing coach Ray Arcel and Usher Raymond IV and Edgar Ramirez as the legendary boxers Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran, exclusively through global music and entertainment platform TIDAL. The film is slated to be in theaters nationwide on August 26, 2016.

It's a phenomenal platform that provides creators and innovators with a unique setting to display their work and further engage and entertain new audiences."

Hands of Stone follows the life of Roberto Duran (Edgar Ramirez), the Panamanian fighter who made his professional debut in 1968 as a 16 year-old and retired in 2002 at the age of 50. In June 1980, he defeated Sugar Ray Leonard (Usher Raymond) to capture the WBC welterweight title, but shocked the boxing world by returning to his corner in their November rematch, famously saying the words "no mas" (no more.) Both Duran and Leonard have a karmic effect on each other's journey. They come of age as only the best opponents can in what many experts consider the biggest rivalry in the history of sports.

The film, written and directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz, stars Golden Globe Best Actor Nominee Edgar Ramirez as Roberto "Hands of Stone" Duran, two time Academy Award® winner Robert De Niro as legendary trainer Ray Arcel, and eight time Grammy Award Winner, Usher Raymond IV as the sports icon Sugar Ray Leonard.

This marks the second pairing between TIDAL and The Weinstein Company who previously collaborated to showcase additional content for TWC's 2015 film Southpaw.
