Jamie Chung Cast As Blink In Upcoming X-Men Show

Variety reporting Another X-Men character has been cast in Fox’s Marvel pilot from Matt Nix and Bryan Singer. Jamie Chung will star as Blink, the popular character from the comics with the power of teleportation. The untitled action-adventure series is a hot project at Fox with A-listers behind the scenes. Nix penned the pilot and will serve as executive producer with Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory and Bryan Singer, who is on board to direct the pilot. The pilot from 20th Century Fox TV and Marvel Television will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive. Chung’s character Blink — real name Clarice Fong — is described as sarcastic, lively and a bit of a tomboy. Her naturally strong exuberance has taken a hit after a sudden and traumatic upheaval of her life. As she adjusts to

Channing Tatum's Gambit Film Delayed

With so many superhero movies due in the next couple of years, it is inevitable that some release dates will change. Often this is to avoid clashes with rival studios, but occasionally it is simply because the films won't be finished in time. This now seems to be the case with the Channing Tatum -starring Gambit . The X-Men spinoff was originally scheduled for an October 7, 2016 release, which would make it the third of three X-Men movies that Fox were releasing next year. However, producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed that Gambit won't even start shooting until next spring, making a 2016 release impossible. In an interview with Collider, Kinberg discussed the search for a new director, who has since been identified as Edge of Tomorrow's Doug Liman . "We have a director in and I don’t know if I’m allowed to say who it is yet because his deal isn’t done, but it’s somebody we’re excited about, and somebody I adore, and hopefully we can make an announcement soon abou

Doug Liman In Talks To Direct Gambit

With original director Rupert Wyatt departing the project two months ago, it was looking as if the X-Men spin-off Gambit may not make its planned release date of October next year. Channing Tatum 's superheroics should now be back on schedule, however, with Edge Of Tomorrow director Doug Liman in final talks to step aboard. Liman already has a strong relationship with Fox having made Mr & Mrs Smith and Jumper with the studio to solid box office results. He’s also, clearly, experienced with both big name talent and effects. Gambit is not his first brush with a Fox/Marvel project either: he was on the shortlist to direct The Wolverine after Darren Aronofsky dropped out. That gig was ultimately won by James Mangold. Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner remain producers on the project, which Tatum has been chasing for some years. Josh Zetumer wrote the screenplay, based on a treatment from comic book stalwart Chris Claremont. It's planned as a stand-alone film whi

Simon Kinberg Wants A #FantasticFour Sequel

Of all the movies released this summer, we’re fairly certain the one no one is expecting to generate a sequel is 20th Century Fox’s latest attempt to bring the Fantastic Four to screens. But writer/producer Simon Kinberg is keeping the idea of a new film alive. “I’m really focused on the next one,” Kinberg tells MTV , while conceding that he wasn’t thrilled with the way the first one was received. “I was obviously disappointed. I was most disappointed that fans didn’t like it. I care more about them than I do anyone else. But I haven’t done a full deep dive on it. Do I think it was unfairly treated? I don’t know.” And, according to him, it wasn’t for want of trying. “Every time you make a movie, you want to make a great movie. It’s a ton of time and effort you put in. We made that movie in the sweltering heat of summer in Baton Rouge and I was there every day of photography. It was an opportunity to do that. I do believe there is a great Fantastic Four movie to be made with th

Movie Review: #TheFantasticFour

After a promising start, The Fantastic Four descends into the rumored trainwreck. Review by Matt Cummings If the recent history of comic book movies has been one of glory, that success was built upon a myriad of high profile failures, none more so than first two Fantastic Four films, which premiered in 2005 and 2007. For fans hungry to forget those disasters, the newest incarnation will do nothing to fulfill that desire. Not a total embarrassment but far from a success, The Fantastic Four is the trainwreck we all feared. When the brilliant scientist Reed Richards (Miles Teller) and his childhood friend Ben Grimm (Jamie Bell) concoct a rudimentary dimensional transportation device, Reed is recruited by the Baxter Institute to complete their parallel research. Along the way, he enlists the help of the tempestuous engineer Johnny Storm (Michael B Jordan), his adopted genius sister Sue (Kate Mara), and the troubled Victor Von Doom (Tony Kebbell), who harbors a secret des

Josh Trank Defends 'Star Wars' Exit

The Chronicle director speaks out on the "toughest decision" of his career. Story by Matt Cummings When news hit on May 1st that Chronicle director Josh Trank was departing the Star Wars universe , it hit fans like a lightsaber through the gut. But speculation about his future emerged earlier at Star Wars Celebration , when he failed to appear, waving flu-like symptoms. His colleague Gareth Edwards did attend, showing off a concept trailer for his film Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One . As news began to swirl about Trank's misfortunes on the set of Fantastic Four - in which his behavior was characterized as "erratic" and Producer Simon Kinberg was brought in to finish the project - fans knew the real story: Trank hadn't merely walked away, he had been fired. Trank was recently interviewed by the LA Times - the first since his departure - shedding a new perspective on the backlash he received from fans and (perhaps) the real reason why he left.

Josh Boone Will Direct & Write The New Mutants

EW is reporting that The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone will co-write and direct The New Mutants , an expansion of the X-Men universe for Fox. Boone, a longtime comic-book fan, pitched the film along with a new comic-book for the series, and sources familiar with the project say the film will be based on the 1980s run of the Marvel comic, and that tonally it will be—”John Hughes meets Stephen King”—leaning towards horror and the supernatural. Knate Gwaltney will co-write the script. Producer Simon Kinberg told Deadline, which broke the story, “We’re so excited to explore this part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters.” Please Leave A Comment-

Bryan Singer Confirmed To Direct X-Men: Apocalypse

Given the success of X-Men: Days Of Future Past and his comments after the film’s release about follow-up plans, it was all but a foregone conclusion that Bryan Singer would return to direct the new film, X-Men: Apocalypse . But the vagaries of filmmaking deals demand that things take time to lock in and Singer has just officially signed his contract to tackle the next instalment. With Simon Kinberg back writing the script based on ideas he’s thrown around with Singer, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, the new film will be set a decade after Days and discovers what happens when all the time-tinkering his unleashed the powerful mutant Apocalypse who will cause trouble for our heroes.
