Colin Farrell Offered Lead In Total Recall Remake

Colin Farrell To Play Quaid

Sony has offered Colin Farrell the lead role in Columbia Pictures' "Total Recall" remake.

Farrell received the offer last week and has since been in negotiations with Sony. He would play a man tortured by recurring dreams of a trip to Mars, a role that was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original 1990 pic.

Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender also had been considered for the role.

The "Total Recall" reboot, to be directed by Len Wiseman from a script by Kurt Wimmer, will contemporize author Philip K. Dick's source story, "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale." Farrell's casting would help contemporize the pic, offering a stark contrast to Schwarzenegger's persona.

Watch the footage after the Jump..

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Natalie Portman Shopping "BYO"

Natalie Portman Is A Dirty Girl

Natalie Portman goes sapphic with Mila Kunis in the upcoming "Black Swan." Now she's getting her racy on in a different way.

For the past few weeks, Portman and college friend Laura Moses have been shopping to Hollywood studios a ribald comedy that they have written, said two studio executives who've read the script.

The project, called "BYO" (for Bring Your Own), concerns two very different twentysomething women who, after finding themselves unlucky in love, decide to throw a party to which each female attendee brings an eligible bachelor. The executives who've read the script describe it as a female-themed "Superbad."

Portman would star as one of the female leads and produce the movie, and the studio executives said they'd been told Anne Hathaway has expressed interest in the second lead role.

The project, which has been passed on by several Hollywood studios, could still get made via either a studio or, more likely, via independent financing. Representatives for Hathaway and Portman could not immediately be reached for comment.

Todd McFarlane's Spawn Geared For Adults

Todd McFarlane's Spawn Geared For Adults

Todd McFarlane's plans to bring "Spawn" back to the animated world are still materializing, as the comic book creator recently told us that the project is undergoing various animation and technology tests through different studios.

But even as certain aspects of the "Spawn" series are getting ironed out, there's one thing that McFarlane says the fans can count on: just like the last animated series that aired on HBO, this latest "Spawn" adaptation will absolutely retain its edgy status as a mature audience series.

"Absolutely," McFarlane told MTV News when asked whether or not the new series would preserve the old show's dark tone. "We're gong to a cable network, and that's their bread and butter."

"They want stuff that isn't what you can find on ABC, NBC and CBS," he added. "They've covered that field. We have now an area where we can actually do shows that get a little grittier, a little darker, a little more risque."

Between "The Walking Dead" and "Breaking Bad" on AMC to shows like "The Shield" and "Sons of Anarchy" on FX, cable networks have absolutely tested the limits of what's appropriate for TV audiences. But that's not the only reason McFarlane says that the "Spawn" show will continue to be for adult viewers.

"To some extent, if it ain't broke, don't fix it," he said. "The three years [that 'Spawn'] was on HBO, it won an Emmy -- two of 'em -- for various reasons. They're going, 'Just give us what you're doing. You know what you're doing, just bring it over here and don't put it on their channel, put it on my channel.' So I don't think it's going to be an issue once we get down to it."

Little Fockers Theatrical Trailer

Are You Ready For Another Focker Film?

Universal Pictures released a new theatrical trailer for their upcoming comedy Little Fockers, which is the third film in  Meet the Parents franchise. I think they are bleeding the well dry with this film. But with the holiday season coming up and it being a family film I am sure it will do just fine at the box office.

The film stars Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Blythe Danner, Jessica Alba, Laura Dern, Harvey Keitel, Teri Polo, Robert De Niro, Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman.

David Lindsay-Abaire adapted his 2007 Tony Award-winning play of the same name, and John Cameron Mitchell directed. Kidman produced the project via her production company, Blossom Films.

The Trailer

RABBIT HOLE is a vivid, hopeful, honest and unexpectedly witty portrait of a family searching for what remains possible in the most impossible of all situations. In this clip Academy Awards winners Nicole Kidman and Dianne Wiest bring a warm sense of humor and levity to an emotional scene from the film.

Becca and Howie Corbett (NICOLE KIDMAN and AARON ECKHART) are returning to their everyday existence in the wake of a shocking, sudden loss. Just eight months ago, they were a happy suburban family with everything they wanted. Now, they are caught in a maze of memory, longing, guilt, recrimination, sarcasm and tightly controlled rage from which they cannot escape. While Becca finds pain in the familiar, Howie finds comfort.

The shifts come in abrupt, unforeseen moments. Becca hesitantly opens up to her opinionated, loving mother (DIANNE WIEST) and secretly reaches out to the teenager involved in the accident that changed everything (MILES TELLER); while Howie lashes out and imagines solace with another woman (SANDRA OH). Yet, as off track as they are, the couple keeps trying to find their way back to a life that still holds the potential for beauty, laughter and happiness. The resulting journey is an intimate glimpse into two people learning to re-engage with each other and a world that has been tilted off its axis.

RABBIT HOLE is directed by John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) from a script by acclaimed playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, adapted from his Pulitzer Prize-winning play. The cast, led by Academy Award® winner Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Actress in a Leading Role, 2002) and Golden Globe® nominee Aaron Eckhart, includes two-time Oscar® winner Dianne Wiest (Hannah and Her Sisters, Actress in a Supporting Role, 1986; Bullets Over Broadway, Actress in a Supporting Role, 1994), Tammy Blanchard, Miles Teller, Giancarlo Esposito, Jon Tenney and Sandra Oh.

Jon Favreau to Direct Magic Kingdom For Disney

Jon Favreau Got His Mickey Ears On

Jon Favreau is in talks to direct Magic Kingdom, the Disney film with the premise that the attractions at the venerable theme park come to life. The studio set the project up nearly two years ago and got a draft by Battlestar Galactica's Ron Moore, but a new writer will be set and work on a new draft under Favreau.  Favreau will be signing a development deal, because the project will percolate while he works on other big scale studio films. He just completed Cowboys & Aliens, the DreamWorks/Universal co-production that stars Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford. Favreau will finish that film for release on July 29, 2011, and he is expected to re-team with Robert Downey Jr. for a third Iron Man. Magic Kingdom is being produced by Strike Entertainment partners Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, and while the studio has previously tapped theme park attractions for films like

Pirates of the Caribbean, this is the first time it has created a movie featuring the entire park. Magic Kingdom sounds like Disney's derivative answer to Fox's Night at the Museum franchise, but the signing of Favreau to helm continues an interesting direction that the studio is going in under Rich Ross and Sean Bailey. They are making a concerted effort to draw A-list talent to the studio.

Earlier this week, Bailey landed The Blind Side director John Lee Hancock to helm Electric Boy Genius, and set Zombieland scribes Paul Wernick & Brett Reese to script Cowboy Viking Ninja. David Fincher is attached to direct 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Sam Raimi to direct The Great and Powerful Oz, and Tim Burton to direct the Linda Woolverton-scripted Maleficent possibly with Angelina Jolie. Guillermo del Toro signed to produce Haunted Mansion, and Peter Hedges is directing Odd Life of Timothy Green, which just got Joel Edgerton as its star. Bailey, who stepped off producing Tron: Legacy to take the production president job, kept director Joseph Kosinski in the fold by acquiring his likely next film, Oblivion. That is now being written by The Departed scribe William Monahan.

Channing Tatum To Join 21 Jump Street Film

Channing Tatum To Go Undercover

Channing Tatum has jumped to the top of the list for the lead of Sony Pictures's 21 Jump Street. I'm told that Tatum will soon be in negotiations to star alongside Jonah Hill.

Production will begin in the spring. Based on the 1987 Stephen J. Cannell series that was one of the Fox Network's early successes and launched Johnny Depp, the movie was scripted by Michael Bacall based on a story he hatched with Hill. The film will be directed by Cloudy with the Chance of Meatballs helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller. I'm told that the studio has met with a bunch of potential leading men and that Tatum and Hill matched up well. Both look youthful, which helps since the film is about undercover officers who infiltrate schools to fight crime.

Superman Reboot Casting Rumors

Superman Casting Rumors

With Armie Hammer reportedly out of the running and the jury still out on Jon Hamm's potential, the rumored casting pool for director Zack Snyder's "Superman" relaunch is surprisingly thin -- though three new names, however unlikely, have just joined the mix.

Examiner reports that wrestling icons Dwayne Johnson and John Cena are two of the front runners to fill out Clark Kent's shoes for Snyder's upcoming film. But without any other official word, it's more than likely that these rumors are just that -- rumors.

But there's another rumor that has at least a little bit more weight: "True Blood" actor Joe Manganiello is reportedly a contender for Superman, according to a pretty reliable source... himself!

The actor supposedly spilled the beans that he's in contention for the "Superman" reboot during an appearance at EyeCon in Florida this past weekend, according to True-Blood.net. But Manganiello quickly took to his Twitter account to dispel the rumors, saying that he's not in negotiations for the part, even if his interest in the character is quite apparent.

"Just to be clear... as of today, I am not 'negotiating' to play Superman," he wrote. "But keep your fingers crossed and thanks for the wishful thinking!"

Although Manganiello might be the likeliest contender of the three most recently mentioned actors, it's still premature to consider him the frontrunner for our next Man of Steel.

THE CHICAGO CODE Series To Debut On Fox

THE CHICAGO CODE (formerly titled “Ride-Along”), the distinctive new police drama from critically acclaimed creator Shawn Ryan (“The Shield”), will make its anticipated series debut Monday, Feb. 7 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Shot on location in Chicago, THE CHICAGO CODE follows the Windy City’s most powerful and respected cops as they navigate the city’s underbelly to fight crime and expose corruption within Chicago’s notorious political machine.

Watch the trailer after the Jump..

The city of Chicago is a paradox that serves as the setting for Shawn Ryan's new drama, THE CHICAGO CODE. In this series, the audience is the passenger, taking an unpredictable ride through the streets of Chicago and navigating crime and corruption with the most respected - and notorious - cops in the city.

JAREK WYSOCKI (Jason Clarke) is a local legend and larger-than-life veteran of the Chicago Police Department. Like the city of Chicago, Jarek is razor blades and brass knuckles wrapped in politeness and egoless charm - a man who throws away partners the way others throw away tissues. TERESA COLVIN (Jennifer Beals) arrived at the pinnacle of the Chicago Police Department in a short period of time. She's determined to implement changes before the mud that is Chicago politics clogs her office. As a result of Teresa's difficult choices, she has made some powerful enemies along the way, including two street gangs, the police officers' union and a city alderman who proves to be a dangerous adversary.

Jarek's new partner, CALEB EVERS (Matt Lauria), is a smart young detective who desperately wants to prove himself. He is savvier and more observant than most people give him credit for, and just might make the perfect yin to Jarek's yang. Also in Jarek's charge is his niece, VONDA WYSOCKI (Devin Kelley), a rookie beat cop whose father, Jarek's brother, was killed in the line of duty when she was young. Jarek keeps close tabs on her and is less than thrilled to discover she's falling for her partner, ISAAC JOINER (Todd Williams), a charismatic cop who takes unnecessary risks on the job that land him and Vonda in some dangerous situations.

ALDERMAN RONIN GIBBONS (Delroy Lindo) is a building-magnate-turned-politician who has ruled his ward with a velvet glove for three decades. Jarek and Teresa are convinced Gibbons and his cohorts - including LIAM HENNESSEY (Billy Lush), an Irish tough guy in Gibbons' construction empire - are dirty to the core, but they've never had the evidence to prove it. When a murder investigation leads them to Gibbons, they are determined to bring him to justice and clean up Chicago - if that's even possible.

THE CHICAGO CODE is a production of 20th Century Fox Television and MiddKid Productions. The series is written by Shawn Ryan, and is executive-produced by Ryan, Tim Minear and Charles McDougall. McDougall directed the pilot episode.

Steven Spielberg's Vision Of Harry Potter "Let’s Make It Animated"

Steven Spielberg's Vision Of Harry Potter  "Let’s Make It Animated"
The first part of the final films for the Harry Potter franchise will be in theaters on November 19,2010.  Now  its time to bring out the promotion hype. Like this film is going to need any help selling out the first few days. I for one will not be in line to see the film. I have never been a huge Harry Potter fan since the first film came out.

Speaking of the first movie, WB president Alan Horn revealed that he offered the first directing job to Steven Spielberg but Spielberg’s plans did not fit into what he was looking to turn the franchise into.

Heyman sent the book to his friend and fellow Brit Lionel Wigram, a production executive at Warner Bros., to gauge the studio’s interest. Wigram said some in Burbank questioned the viability of the creaky fantasy-adventure genre and viewed the tale of a magical boarding school called Hogwarts as too British for the American heartland. “Don’t spend too much on it,” was the word from the home office, Wigram recalled.

Warner Bros. secured the rights for four “Harry Potter” novels for about $2 million. At that point, only the first book was on shelves in England and none had reached America. Warner Bros. tried to get a financial partner on the project, reaching out to studios including Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks, which passed.

Once the books became a sensation, greenlighting the first “Potter” film became a major priority at Warner Bros., where Alan Horn had recently taken over as president and Barry Meyer as chairman (replacing longtime studio chiefs Terry Semel and Bob Daly). DreamWorks circled back and proposed a partnership, but Horn wisely declined. There was one aspect of the DreamWorks talks that did intrigue him, however.

“I did think it would be worthwhile for Steven Spielberg to direct,” Horn said. “We offered it to him. But one of the notions of Dreamwork’s and Steven’s was, ‘Let’s combine a couple of the books, let’s make it animated,’ and that was because of the [visual effects and] Pixar had demonstrated that animated movies could be extremely successful. Because of the wizardry involved, they were very effects-laden. So I don’t blame them. But I did not want to combine the movie and I wanted it to be live action.”

Spielberg instead took on Warner’s 2001 sci-fi film “A.I.: Artificial Intelligence” and the Hogwarts post fell to Chris Columbus, director of “Home Alone” and “Mrs. Doubtfire,” was then tapped for the job. Initially, Rowling wasn’t high on the idea.

AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk), chairman of Valhalla Motion Pictures, serves as Executive Producer. The comic goes on to explore the challenges of life in a world overrun by zombies who take a toll on the survivors, and sometimes the interpersonal conflicts present a greater danger to their continuing survival than the zombies that roam the country. Over time, the characters are changed by the constant exposure to death and some grow willing to do anything to survive.

Shot on location in Atlanta, “The Walking Dead” is led by a cast that includes Lincoln(“Teachers,” Love Actually) as Rick Grimes, Jon Bernthal (“The Pacific,” The Ghost Writer) as Shane Walsh, Sarah Wayne Callies (“Prison Break”) as Lori Grimes,Laurie Holden (“The Shield,” Stephen King’s The Mist) as Andrea, Jeffrey DeMunn (Stephen King’s The Mist, The Green Mile) as Dale, Steven Yeun (“The Big Bang Theory”) as Glen, Emma Bell (The Bedford Diaries) as Amy and Chandler Riggs (Get Low) as Carl Grimes.

Two-time Academy Award Winner Kevin Spacey gives the performance of a lifetime in CASINO JACK, a riotous new film starring Spacey as a man hell bent on acquiring all that the good life has to offer. He plays in the same game as the highest of rollers and resorts to awe-inspiring levels of conning, scheming and fraudulent antics to get what he wants.

Inspired by true events that are too over-the-top for even the wildest imaginations to conjure, CASINO JACK lays bare the wild excesses and escapades of Jack Abramoff. Aided by his business partner Michael Scanlon (Barry Pepper), Jack parlays his clout over some of the world's most powerful men with the goal of creating a personal empire of wealth and influence. When the two enlist a mob-connected buddy (Jon Lovitz) to help with one of their illegal schemes, they soon find themselves in over their heads, entrenched in a world of mafia assassins, murder and a scandal that spins so out of control that it makes worldwide headlines.

Directed by George Hickenlooper (FACTORY GIRL, THE MAN FROM ELYSIAN FIELDS), CASINO JACK returns Spacey to the type of role that made him famous – a cool-headed, articulate snake charmer whose wild ambitions knows no limits or boundaries. The film also stars Kelly Preston and Rachelle Lefevre and is produced by Gary Howsam, Bill Marks and George Vitetzakis from an original screenplay by Norman Snider. Executive Producers are Richard Rionda Del Castro, Lewin Webb, Donald Zuckerman, Dana Brunetti, Patricia Eberle, Warren Nimchuk, Angelo Paletta and Domenic Serafino. The Associate Producer is Rick Chad.
