Ridley Scott Talks Alien Prequel

Ridley Scott Talks Alien Prequel

Ridley Scott is going back to where it all started and will direct the prequel to his "Alien".  He recently spoke to MTV and gave us some great insight to the upcoming film.

Here's what Scott had to say about where the production is currently at.

As we speak, I've got a pile of pages next to me; it's like the fourth draft. It's a work in progress, but we're not dreaming it up anymore. We know what the story is. We're now actually trying to improve the three acts and make the characters better, build it up to something [we can shoot]. It's a work in progress, but we're actually making the film. There's no question about it, we're going to make the film.

He goes on to explain that he is working on getting the screenplay complete so they can find out how much is will cost to make the film. He's also got people working on the films designs. The story is set, the characters are in place, and here's his description of where the story is headed.

It's set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver's character Ellen Ripley]. It's fundamentally about going out to find out 'Who the hell was that Space Jockey?' The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer's chair. Remember that? And our man [Tom Skerritt as Captain Dallas] climbs up and says "There's been an explosion in his chest from the inside out — what was that?" I'm basically explaining who that Space Jockey — we call him the Space Jockey — I'm explaining who the space jockeys were. It's Weyland. Weyland hasn't joined Yutani yet, so they go and see Weyland. [The film] is about the discussion of terraforming — taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life.

Scott will be making the film a stand alone movie, so that the audience wouldn't have to have seen any of the other Alien films.

Well, the main character [in the prequel] will be a woman, yeah. We're thinking it could go down that route, yeah. When I started the original "Alien," Ripley wasn't a woman, it was a guy. During casting, we thought, "Why don't we make it a woman?"

Now because of the fact that there were several other Alien movies after Scott's original, films like Alien Vs. Predator, Scott feels that there needs to be a redesign of the alien creature for the prequel. Here he explains,

The thing about "Alien vs. Predator" is, I know it's commerce, but what a pity. I think, therefore, I have to design — or redesign — earlier versions of what these elements are that led to the thing you finally see in "Alien," which is the thing that catapults out of the egg, the face-hugger. I don't want to repeat it. The alien in a sense, as a shape, is worn out.

Of course he will bring in the original alien designer H.R. Giger to help redesign the creature!

Yeah, he's still around. Once I get more serious and get going, and the big wheels start turning, we'll certainly talk. And maybe we'll come up with something completely different.

The director say's that he hopes to have the movie in theaters in late 2011, or maybe the best date in 2012. So it looks like they will start shooting the film fairly soon. Now Scott has said he would never do a sequel to a movie, but technically this is a prequel, not a sequel. Here's what he had to say regarding that making an Alien sequel.

Honestly? They've squeezed the franchise dry. The first one will always be the most frightening, because the beast we put together with Giger and all its parts — the face-hugger, the chest-burster, the egg — they were all totally original, and that's hard to follow. ... I've always avoided sequels, unless I felt there was something fresh.

Bret Michaels In Serious Condition

Bret Michaels is in critical condition suffering from a brain hemorrhage, his publicist said Friday. Joann Mignano confirmed a report on People magazine's website Friday that said the former Poison frontman was rushed to intensive care late Thursday after a severe headache. The report said doctors discovered bleeding at the base of his brain stem.

Mignano said tests are being conducted and that no further information was available.

The 47-year-old reality TV star had an emergency appendectomy last week after complaining of stomach pains. He said on his website that though the surgery "has taken its toll," doctors expected him to make a full recovery.

Michaels starred on the VH1 dating show "Rock of Love" and is a contestant on Donald Trump's NBC reality show, "The Celebrity Apprentice."

Trump said in a statement Friday that he was "deeply saddened" to hear of Michaels' condition.

Want To Be Iron Man? Get Inside The Armor

Want To Be Iron Man? Get Inside The Armor

This afternoon Marvel & Paramount released this augmented reality app http://www.iamironman2.com that not only lets you see what you'd look like in the latest iteration of the Iron Man/ War Machine hardware but it also brings to life the internal HUD (Heads Up Display) through gesture recognition.

You will need a webcam to activate I Am Iron Man 2. If you don't, this video explains how it works and what it looks like.

.

Innovations in the AR technology:

- Try the new Iron Man & War Machine helmets (with visor up/ down)
- Touch screen interface allows you to get the HUD perspective from inside the helmet
- Video capture & effortless sharing across social networks & blog platforms

For this year's early summer blockbuster, 'IRON MAN 2', Paramount has delivered an Augmented Reality campaign allowing users to see themselves wearing the Iron Man and War Machine masks. Paramount delivered a similar for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen but took this opportunity to really extend the technology.

This time round the AR experience allows users to see the HUD view that Tony has when he is Iron Man plus have a conversation with Jarvis using quotes from the movie.

But most importantly, as we live in an embeddable, shareable world, Paramount wanted to make sure the user could easily record and share themselves as Iron Man so the tech was integrated to ensure the whole experience can now be recorded and saved to social networks or to their own computer.

Green Hornet Pushed Back And Going 3D

Green Hornet Pushed Back And Going 3D

Another film will be converted to 3D. Sony has announced that they will release the upcoming  Green Hornet film in 3D. The studio also  announced that the film is being shifted from a December release to January.

If you saw Warner Bros. Clash Of The Titans and were disappointed with the 3D conversion then you might be disappointed in this upcoming film. They are using the same technique for Green Hornet.

Since director Michel Gondry and star/writer/producer Seth Rogen have yet to start editing the film, and none of the visual effects have been put in place, the 3D process can happen a lot more naturally than taking a finished movie and painting over it in green and red (that’s how they did it on Clash, right?)

"He always kind of shot it having the possibility of having it in 3D in mind," Sony’s Rory Bruer said of Gondry in a statement. "It's got a lot of depth and amazing visuals." And the move isn't necessarily a danger sign - it's smart, given that Tron Legacy and the Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows will both be dominating 3D screens by December.

Kristen Stewart Replacing Angelina Jolie In Wanted 2?

Kristen Stewart Replacing Angelina Jolie In Wanted 2?

Kristen Stewart better hop her ass into the gym if she wants to tackle this role. I just don't see her as a bad ass assassin, but I have been wrong before.

Kristen Stewart maybe replacing Angelina Jolie as the female lead in the Wanted sequel along side James McAvoy. Not a whole lot to go on now. Our insider says Kristen was approached to fill Jolie's hot-woman void in the franchise and met at least once with Timur Bekmambetov, the director of the series.

Kristen is set to start filming Breaking Dawn possibly as early as October, while the Wanted follow-up was originally slated to start shooting around the end of August.

No production date has been set in stone for the final Twilight flick(s), which is making it difficult, we're told, for many of the actors involved in the vampire franchise to figure out their schedule allowed for outside projects.

"Any time you can get Big Willie to come out and talk about doing a third installment of a hot movie like 'Bad Boys,' you have to take notice," Lawrence explained. "I met with Michael Bay, and he said he's onboard too — so it's real."

Writer Peter Craig is putting together a script for Columbia, and the "Bad Boys" team is ready. Now all they need to do is get the green light from Jerry Bruckheimer then it is really real.

Shrek Forever Clip Featuring Overweight Puss In Boots

Shrek Forever Clip Featuring Overweight Puss In Boots

The sight of a tubby, bloated, lazy Puss In Boots (or rather, Puss With A Pink Ribbon) is a chucklesome one and it’s obvious that Antonio Banderas had fun playing the overweight, under-inspired former hero.

Shrek (Mike Myers) has become a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, the grown-reluctant ogre agrees to autograph pitch forks. Longing for the days when he felt like a "real ogre," Shrek is tricked into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumpelstiltskin (Paul McCartney). Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumplestiltskin is king, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) is an intellectual, Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) is still alive, and Shrek and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) have never met. Now, it's up to Shrek to undo all of Rumpelstiltskin's mischief in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world, and reclaiming his One True Love and family.

Avatar 2 Will Go Under Water In Pandora

Avatar 2 Will Go Under Water In Pandora

We have some interesting news about Avatar and it's sequel. First up James Cameron says a longer version of the film will be back in theaters in August -- and that the franchise will return with a seagoing sequel.

Cameron outlined where he sees the adventures of Jake, Neytiri and the rest heading in future films.

“We created a broad canvas for the environment of film. That’s not just on Pandora, but throughout the Alpha Centauri AB system. And we expand out across that system and incorporate more into the story – not necessarily in the second film, but more toward a third film.

“Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment – a different setting within Pandora. And I’m going to be focusing on the ocean, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won’t be a rainforest. I’m not saying we won’t see what we’ve already seen; we’ll see more of that as well.”
The sequel, according to Cameron,
will take less time to shoot, though don’t expect him to pump it out over a few months in his pool at home… “The challenge on the next Avatar is to do what we did before at half the price and in half the time. Again, that’s an impossible goal, we won’t accomplish that, but if we can reduce by 25% in both categories, we’ll have really accomplished something.”

Samuel L. Jackson Confirmed For Captain American And Not Thor

Samuel L. Jackson Confirmed For Captain American And Not Thor

Our friends over at Latino Review sent out super reporter 'El Guapo' is his name (make sure to follow him on Twitter, the guy is pretty witty,)  to cover the press junket  for the upcoming film "Mother and Child" which stars Sam Jackson and you know what was on everyone's mind and my man got down to business to find out.

Here is his interview with Mr. Jackson:

Are you happy with Nick Fury's role in Iron Man 2?

Jackson: I'll tell you at the junket.

Are you disappointed you/re not going to London for that?

Jackson: Actually, I had a plan to go to London, I had two suits I had to pick up so I was looking forward to going there so I could pick up my suits. Go to this West Indian restaurant that I really like. So I'm sorta bummed I won't be there. But I just got out just as the volcano was erupting. Got out before they shut everything down or I wouldn't be here today.

Well I know you've talked about doing like nine films as Nick Fury. Be a gradual order before you get your own Nick Fury film. So how is it getting started on that journey?

Jackson: Well I started on it when I did the end of Iron Man 1. My foot was on the path. Now my foot's a little deeper on the path with Iron Man 2. I'm not in Thor. Supposed to do Captain America this summer in London.

Why do you think you're not in Thor? That's kind of weird.

Jackson: I have no idea. I'm not in charge of making those kinds of decisions. I thought I was, they said I was in the trades and I was like, "Ooh! I got a job!" I called my agent he said, "Naw, you're not in it." I was like, "Well shit, they need to pay me if they're gonna put my name in it. Somethin'."

Did you read The Avengers script before...it looks like they're going to re-write it?

Jackson: No. Have you? You know you have a source online.

Do you have any sort of desire, or campaign to have your own starring vehicle for that character?

Jackson: The Avengers is my own starring vehicle for that character, pretty much.

But that's so far away.

Jackson: It's not that far away, it's February. That too far away for you? You can't wait until next year? I got time to get in shape and everything.

I see your also attached to a remake of The Last Dragon.

Jackson: You might have seen that somewhere.

Are you doing that?

Jackson: Not yet. People attach your names to a lot of things. Whatever you end up doing, or you might do. Right now we don't have a script.

That could be a good one though. Would you be Sho'nuff?

Jackson: Naw, I'd be Bruce Leroy. Why would I be Sno'nuff? Gonna typecast a nigga? [laughs] Ah, I guess that's what everybody's thinking. I don't know.

HIGH School Trailer

HIGH School Trailer

First off I would consider this to be a Red-band trailer with all the F bombs that they let off during the trailer.  So you have been warned.  HIGH School debuted The Sundance Film Festival. And wouldn't you know it, they released the trailer on 4:20.  How ironic since the premise of the film surrounds marijuana.

The trailer give you a hit of what the movie is about without giving to much away.

The film was directed by John Stalberg, and stars Adrien Brody, Michael Chiklis, Colin Hanks, Sean Marqutte, and Matt Burke.

Synopsis:

So it’s the end of the school year, and smarmy Principal Gordon (Michael Chiklis) has suddenly instituted a zero-tolerance crusade against his nemesis, the reviled marijuana. A mandatory drug test for all students is to be administered, failure of which will result in immediate expulsion. Normally, this would be of no consequence to straight-arrow valedictorian Henry Burke, except he just tried ganja for the very first time. With his college scholarship hanging in the balance, Burke begrudgingly teams up with charismatic pothead Travis Breaux to do the only thing they can think of to neutralize this threat—get the entire student body stoned.

Kick-Ass Slays The "Dragon"

Kick-Ass Slays The "Dragon"

As of Sunday night I was pretty nervous that Kick-Ass lost the number one spot to "How to Train Your Dragon".  It looks like it was a close race but Kick-Ass ended up on top.  Not taking anything away from Dragon, which was a great film.

If you haven't seen the movie you need to make a trip out to the theaters and spread the word. I am really hoping that word of mouth about this film will give this movie legs with all the new films coming out.

Despite preliminary reports, "Kick-Ass" took home the top spot at the domestic box office.

Grossing $19.8 million, Lionsgate's superhero action pic edged DreamWorks Animation's 3D kid pic, "How to Train Your Dragon" ($19.6 million) in a closely contested race.

Gatchaman / G-Force Production Trailer

Gatchaman / G-Force  Production Trailer

Being raised in Japan, I have very fond memories of Gatchaman, watching the show, and playing with the toys as a kid. There has been talk about this film being made since 2007, when TMNT director Kevin Munroe and writer Paul Dini had a say in the project until they left due to creative differences.

The trailer does get your hopes up for an upcoming film, but I wouldn't get to excited. Reason I say that is Imagi Studios was to put out this film but got shut down in February of this year. So unless another studio picks this film up, I just don't see it happening.

Originated in Japan in the early 1970s as the television series “Science Ninja Team Gatchaman.” Aired in the U.S. as “Battle of the Planets” and “G-Force,” it soon became a widely popular syndicated TV series.
The story is set in a future world grappling with environmental and technological issues and it focuses on five reluctant heroes whose remarkable genetic code makes them Earth’s only hope of defeating extra-terrestrial invaders.

Sacha Baron Cohen To Play Walter Mitty?

Sacha Baron Cohen To Play Walter Mitty?

The next twist in the long development of a remake of The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty has just struck Hollywood – Sacha Baron Cohen is the latest name rumored to be starring in the film, according to Pajiba.

Adapted from 1947’s Danny Kaye comedy, Walter Mitty is one of those movies that attracts major talent, but can’t ever seem to make it to the screen. First mooted in 1994 with Jim Carrey starring for New Line, it’s been passed like a brightly wrapped present at a child’s birthday present between studios and directors, with Paramount and DreamWorks both involved, Ron Howard briefly attached and Steven Spielberg making it one of the 73,000 films he’s planned to direct over the years.

Carrey dropped out, Owen Wilson became attached, and Spielberg just couldn’t find the time (he is, after all, a very busy man). And not to mention the screenplays – half the script doctors in LA and beyond have had their paws on it.

Now 20th Century Fox, which has had in languishing in the starting block for three years, is trying again, though without the last actor attached. Yes, Mike Myers, it seems, is apparently sticking with Austin Powers for now.

New Star Wars Animated Series To Cover Post Return Of The Jedi

We have only read about what happens after Return of the Jedi (which is my Favorite film) in different forms of novelizations, but with new animated series that will move the classic Star Wars story forward with all of our favorite characters.

Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations Steve Sansweet confirmed this after a fan at the C2E2 convention said that he

“Would really love to see new adventures after Jedi with our favorite characters Luke, Han and Leia,”
 Sansweet answered saying

“And you will, in the new animation.”
This is great news to all of us who are Huge Star Wars fans. We get to follow Luke, Leia and Han on their adventures, and maybe they will throw in some of the expanded universe material in the series.
