Riddick Review. Riddick Is B-movie Fare That Might Entertain, If You Can Get Over The Cheese.

Riddick Review
By: MattInRC

Director and Co-Writer David Twohy and Actor Vin Diesel bring another Riddick to the big screen that's not good enough for the Summer and too cheesy for even the Winter. Continuing after the titular character's apparent death in Chronicles, our story picks up with the hunted outcast trying to heal up while evading every manner of angry animal and alien. On this planet, referred to as 'Not Furya' (Riddick's home planet and the reason for his initial resignation from the Necromongers), the sun is hot and the wind penetrating, which is just how Riddick likes it. Soon, he's fashioning bone weapons, eating slimey rations from an abandoned rest station, and training a CGI dog with zebra stripes. But his past is about to catch up, as two teams of mercenaries descend to return him headless to Vaako (Karl Urban) and his people.

One group of mercs - led by the professional Johns (Matt Nable) - has ulterior motives to the mission, while the other team couldn't care less. Their leader Santana (Jordi Molla) has the hots for Johns' lesbian sharpshooter Dahl (Katie Sackhoff) but only finds the end of her fists on multiple occasions. As Riddick hunts down each team, a massive storm is just on the horizon, adding a new threat to the mercs and necessitating a quick escape that only our anti-hero now controls.

For a film that's nearly two hours, Riddick sure feels incomplete between three separate acts, each of which resembles a piece of a rejected story, somehow fused together and propped up just long enough before it tears under its own weight. Diesel's narration in the survival story of Act 1 disappears, replaced by a second act that feels like Predator, with Riddick hunting down each mercenary team until they finally submit, and bookended with a familiar Aliens invasion of the third. Meanwhile, Diesel scowls and rips off Fast and Furious-like lines ('Ride it like you stole it'), underutilizing Twonhy's assets along the way. Sackhoff's badass lesbian sniper is melted away to loving hetero glances by film's end, never growing beyond the angry retorts between her and Santana. The appearance of Urban is so short that it would have worked much better as a cameo; instead, it feels like part of his performance was left on the cutting room floor. In fact, there's something missing throughout the entire film, a sense of polish perhaps or as if 15 minutes of critical character development were cut. This is probably why it wasn't added to the Summer movie season, forced to play pauper while better projects danced and pirouetted in front of it.

And among this wreckage, there are some things to like here. Molla is excellent as the dirty merc, while Nable's search for his son's fate yields unexpected interactions between he and Diesel. You almost feel Riddick's justification as he tells Johns about why he had to end his son's dirty exploits. And Twohny does give the bald-headed bruiser plenty to hate about 'Not Furya,' a trick that easily gets us hoping he can escape. But past that initial point, it's all in the execution, and the hodge-podge storytelling is too long to keep us interested. Had real character development occurred without relying on breast shots from the Necromongers and Sackhoff herself (nice ones, by the way) along with the unending amount of cheesy dialogue, Riddick could have been a deep character story AND a surprise hit too. Imagine that.

Missing too much polish for a Summer film and filled with too much cheese even for the typically-dramatic Winter, Riddick is mildy entertaining but feels like a stood-up prom date. It's initially got a lot going for it, but fails to execute or even stay cohesive from act to act. Still, it's modest $38 million budget should help it to make good money, which will of course produce another sequel that perhaps Diesel will get right this time. It's not the worst movie of 2013 by far, but its wasted opportunity is hard to swallow. Perhaps we'll one day be treated to a Director's Cut that will tie things better together. Just don't tell Vin Diesel that. He might get angry. Riddick is rated R for nudity and violence and has a runtime of 119 minutes.

Tom Hiddleston To Star In Crimson Peak

Tom Hiddleston is replacing Benedict Cumberbatch in Crimson Peak, a gothic film to be directed by Guillermo del Toro.

The thriller, which will also feature Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam, has set a start date of January 2014 to begin shooting.

Legendary, which covered 75 percent of the budget for del Toro's Pacific Rim, will produce and provide financing, while Universal Pictures will have the option to come on board as a finance partner at a later date.

Cumberbatch exited Crimson Peak in late August. There wasn't a reason given for the departure at the time, although sources told THR that it wasn't due to a conflict with another project.

Hiddleston, who played Loki in The Avengers, is set to appear in November's Marvel sequel Thor: The Dark World. The actor was also cast in Muppets Most Wanted, which has set a March 2014 release date.

Exclusvie "GHOST GHIRLS" Q&A With Amanda Lund & Maria Blasucci

Exclusvie "GHOST GHIRLS" Q&A With Amanda Lund & Maria Blasucci
By: John Meneghetti

I was lucky enough to get ahold of Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci from the upcoming show GHOST GHIRLS We sat and chatted about a few things.

As you know, “GHOST GHIRLS” is the hilarious new web series, produced by Shine America and Jack Black’s Electric Dynamite. All 12 episodes will be available exclusively on Yahoo! Screen.

COMEDY SERIES ‘GHOST GHIRLS’ PREMIERES SEPTEMBER 9th AS PART OF THE YAHOO! FALL COMEDY LINE-UP

Guest stars for the upcoming season are Molly Shannon, Val Kilmer, Dave Grohl, Jason Ritter, Jason Schwartzman, and many more!

GHOST GHIRLS” is a web comedy series following the antics of two best friends, Heidi (Lund) and Angelica (Blasucci), who work as paranormal investigators. Each episode details the bumbling adventures of the hilarious duo as they attempt to solve other worldly cases while not tripping over themselves in the process.

The show stars Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci as a pretty pair of parapsychologists. It was created by “Drunk History's” Jeremy Konner, along with stars Lund and Blasucci. The 12-episode paranormal procedural was directed by Konner and co-produced by Jack Black’s Electric Dynamite and Shine America. Priyanka Mattoo is also an executive producer.

GHOST GHIRLS is launching September 9th on Yahoo! Screen.

Can you both tell us a little about yourself and how you got started in acting.

MARIA: Hi, I'm Maria. I was born and raised in LA and the color green is pretty awesome. I started acting in little plays here and there when I was very young but no one gave me an actual job acting until like... a year ago.

AMANDA: Hey! I'm born and raised in Long Beach, California. I love cats and I'm kind of getting into golfing. You should be able to fill in the blanks. I started doing plays in high school and college, where I met Maria. We started doing improv at I.O. West in Hollywood and getting some acting opportunities through web shorts we were making. Look at us now!

How did you two get involved in this project?

MARIA: Jeremy Amanda and I wanted to create a little something together just to put on Youtube and so we got together, wrote a ten page script, shot it and here we are.

AMANDA: Yup! We admired Jeremy's work on Drunk History and wanted to make something with him. Our intentions were really very modest and at the time, I never would have thought it would have ended up as a series on Yahoo!

And how did Jack Black involved in this project?

MARIA: Jeremy had known Jack for a while. We were able to bring the pilot presentation we had shot to Jack's company Electric Dynamite and they got on board right away.

AMANDA: Jack seemed to really respond to our type of humor and was really excited from the get go.

Why the internet and not on network TV?

MARIA: Yahoo came along they were so supportive and excited that we just had to get on board.

AMANDA: Yahoo was much more open minded and responsive to our concept. They were willing to take a chance on a paranormal-comedy starring two girls no one had ever heard of.

Have you ever that OMG moment or been star struck when you me a certain actor or actress?

MARIA: I haven't met John Stamos yet but when I do I'm sure it will be an OMG moment... for him, though. Not for me.

AMANDA: I met Dr. Phil once and I was so scared and inspired at the same time. But like Maria, I'm just waiting for the day when I bump into Stamos at Whole Foods. We are reaching for the same loaf of gluten-free bread and our hands touch just for a second...it'll be the best moment in both of our lives.

OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN DVD Review

OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN DVD Review
By: MattInRC

The Die Hard/Air Force One action thriller OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN is fun, exciting fare.

I've always considered Gerard Butler to be one of the least utilized actors in Hollywood. Best known as Leonidas in the amazing visual feast known as 300, Butler's phyique and stage presence instantly won over fans who worshipped him as a bonified action star. He was even considered for the role of James Bond before Daniel Craig was ultimately given the keys to the Aston Martin. Then, something happened: Butler began showing up in RomComs and other lesser action titles, of which none suited or matched his talents. When your film diet consists of Playing for Keeps and The Ugly Truth, one might start to think you're the victim of a cruel joke. Luckily, someone saw the action hero in Butler, and OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN represents the perfect return to the place where he should have been all along.

Butler plays Mike Banning, a Secret Service agent who witnesses the death of President Benjamin Asher's wife (Ashley Judd, The Bone Collector) during a snowy drive near Camp David. Eighteen months later, Banning is working a desk job but desires a return to active protection service. That chance comes when, during a meeting with the South Korean prime minister, the White House is attacked by a well-coordinated assault of North Koreans led by the shadowy terrorist Kang (Rick Yune, Die Another Day). Banning arrives at the White House to a bloodbath of Secret Service personnel, while Asher (Aaron Eckhart, The Dark Knight) and Kang are locked together in an underground bunker. The government moves swiftly to replace Asher, installing Speaker Trumbull (Morgan Freeman, The Shawshank Redemption) to deal with the crisis. But no one knows of Kang's true plans, including the patsy Forbes (Dylan McDermott, The Campaign), who thinks he'll score big once this 'job' is completed. But just like John McClane in the original Die Hard, Banning isn't going to let Kang rule the day, settling instead as an effective party crasher. As Kang hunts for the elusive agent inside the shattered estate, Banning finds Asher's son Connor (Finley Jacobsen, Marley and Me) hiding from Kang's men, who see the child as an effective bargaining chip. With Trumbull and Secret Service Director Lynn Jacobs (Angela Bassett, Malcolm X) on the phone, Banning orchestrates a rescue plan while stopping Kang from unleashing our nuclear arsenal before Trumbull is forced to capitulate.

OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN won't win any awards for acting or even its action; but its pieces create a better whole than A Good Day to Die Hard. Director Antoine Fuqua (Shooter) keeps the action moving, as if he knows the script by newcomer Creighton Rothenberger isn't exactly a well-crafted commentary on Pacifc Rim relations. That's not to say Rothenberger and Fuqua don't fashion a good tense adventure that will leave you cheering once Banning joins the fray. They do an effective job of pulling audiences into the plight of Banning, selling at once his guilt at watching Asher's wife die, and the need to utterly destroy the North Koreans for the offense they've committed. I don't think we've seen such a brazen attack on such recognizable American symbols in recent memory, the shock of which should play right into our creative team's hands. They recognize one of the biggest rules in movie making: get the audience on your side. By the end of Act 2, we can't wait for the predictable meeting between Kang and Banning, but the results are well-worth our investment. The music by Trevor Morris (Immortals) is impressive in its patriotism, reminding us of the importance that an effective score can play in a movie like this.

Audiences won't see anything new in Olympus Has Fallen, and that's OK because the overall result is still so enjoyable. Butler is back in his element, playing Banning with a quiet presence that's all the more enjoyable once he puts on his angry face. Bassett and Freeman play off each other effectively, and Kang is a perfectly despicable baddie; but it's Eckhart's seemingly minor role which represented the greatest surprise. His scenes are mostly those of someone trapped by a superior force, not only accepting that role well but shining in those few scenes where he's front and center. Our creative team sends a powerful message about our government's slow response to crises, painting us as too proud to think an attack could happen here. When it comes, the message is powerfully received.

I'm not sure how the general moviegoer will react to Olympus Has Fallen. If one views it as a pure action film with a completely believable attack on the White House, then it could go down as one of the best action films of the last 5 years. Frankly, if seeing the Koreans throw the American flag from the White House doesn't cause your blood to boil, then you're probably not meant to see it anyways. Olympus rightfully returns Gerard Butler to his action roots, hopefully signifying a permanent return for one of the most underused actors of his generation. Whether audiences reward him and Fuqua with box office cash is something yet to be determined. For now, welcome back, Spartan. Olympus Has Fallen is rated R for language and scenes of intense violence and has a runtime of 120 minutes.

Alan Taylor To Tackled Next Terminator Film

After creating worlds filled with dragons and demi-gods, “Game of Thrones” and “Thor: The Dark World” helmer Alan Taylor looks ready to enter the world of cyborgs.

Sources tell Variety that Taylor is in talks to direct the rebooted “Terminator” film for Skydance Productions, Paramount and Annapurna Pictures. All the studios and reps had no comment on the news.

Plot details have not been revealed other than this is the first film in a stand alone trilogy. It is still unknown at this time what part Arnold Schwarzenegger will have in the film, though he has said in past interviews he will be back for the film.

Skydance and Annapurna will co-finance along with the studio with David Ellison producing for Skydance and Megan Ellison producing for Annapurna. Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier penned the script.

Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake are on as exec producers. Par will handle distribution.

After acquiring distribution rights in June and setting a June 26, 2015 release date, Par, Skydance and Annapurna have been hard at work to find the person to guide this latest installment.

The studio had targeted Ang Lee early on, but a deal could never be reached. Other early targets included Rian Johnson and “Prisoners” director Denis Villeneuve. In the end, Taylor won the job in helping reboot the iconic sci-fi franchise.

While Taylor’s biggest credit to date is his work on the HBO series “Game of Thrones,” early word on how well the “Thor” shoot went most certainly helped in getting Taylor this gig. He is repped by UTA.

Dwayne Johnson To Star In The Fall Guy Film

The long-in-the-works movie version of 1980s TV series The Fall Guy is coming together once again, this time as a vehicle for Dwayne Johnson.

Johnson is in negotiations to star in a big-screen remake that McG is in talks to direct. Ashok Amritraj's
Amritraj is producing alongside Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, who have held the rights to the property for years. WWE's Michael Luisi also is producing, while McG is also in talks to produce. The film is being presented to buyers at the Toronto Film Festival.

Fall Guy was an ABC series that ran from 1981 to 1986 and starred as Lee Majors as a Hollywood stunt man who supplemented his income by doing bounty hunter work. He was joined on his escapades, which usually involved him transferring a stunt from a movie to the job at hand, by his sidekick cousin (Douglas Barr) and a fetching female stunt actress played by Heather Thomas.

Hollywood has long been trying to translate Fall Guy to the silver screen. The project was set for years at Warner Bros., and more recently at DreamWorks, where Parkes/MacDonald tried to get it off the ground in an incarnation with Martin Campbell at the helm and an iteration with Nicolas Cage starring.

Sources say Hyde Park, which is here in Toronto with the festival's closing night film Life of Crime, will be officially shopping it to sales agents at the festival in the coming week. Hyde Park will finance the film along with WWE.

Benedict Cumberbatch Joins Lost City Of Z

Here’s a testament that good projects sometimes rise above development hell. Benedict Cumberbatch, who figures to be a big man on campus at the Toronto Film Festival with 12 Years A Slave, The Fifth Estate and August: Osage County getting big premieres, is negotiating to star in Lost City Of Z, which James Gray will direct from a script he adapted. Panorama Media will finance the film and handle foreign sales.

The film is based on the David Grann bestselling book. Cumberbatch is in talks to play Percy Fawcett, who in 1925 headed into the depths of the Amazon jungles in Brazil. Fawcett was there to map the jungle and, hobbled by malaria, he discovered a mythical city he called The Lost City Of Z. Scorned by peers who claimed that this ancient kingdom was a fraud, Fawcett headed back into the jungle with his son and one other, braving the dangers of disease, insects, snakes, poison darts and other hazards to reinforce his discovery. None of them were ever seen again and it remains one of the great exploration mysteries of the 20th Century.

Plan B‘s Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Anthony Katagas (who worked with Cumberbatch on 12 Years A Slave) will produce. Plan B has been developing the project for several years, and it initially seemed like Pitt would be heading into the jungles. Cumberbatch most recently starred in Star Trek Into Darkness and has The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug coming later this year and will play Alan Turing in the Morten Tyldum-directed Imitation Game that’s backed by Black Bear Pictures. He seems an intriguing choice to play Fawcett and is certainly a fast-rising leading man.

Mad Max: Fury Road Heads For Re-Shoots

After multiple delays caused mostly by weather, George Miller finally got the cameras cranking last year and spent six months shooting Mad Max: Fury Road. But even though he wrapped in December, there has still been no release of pictures, trailers or anything much else from the film. Now we know one reason why: it’s still not quite finished, with Miller planning to reunite the cast for three weeks of additional shooting in Australia this November.

Of course, talk of new shooting always sends warning flares up about troubled productions, and indeed more filming (especially after such a lengthy shoot) adds fuel to that fire. But additional shots have become de rigueur these days for bigger films, and this may have been part of the plan all along. Still, this is one film that, like World War Z, could definitely do without the added negativity surrounding the idea.

While the further delay before getting started on the new material seems odd, don’t forget that the cast includes Tom Hardy, Nicholas Hoult and Charlize Theron among others, none of whom have what could be called empty schedules. It's all set to kick off in Sydney on November 22.

In case you’ve forgotten (it has been a while), Fury Road follows Mad Max Rockatansky (Hardy taking over Mel Gibson’s iconic road warrior), who is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a war rig driven by Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron).

Nicholas Hoult is Nux, with Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe and Nathan Jones as Rictus Erectus. Then we have The Wives: Zoe Kravitz as Toast, Riley Keough as Capable, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as Splendid, Abbey Lee Kershaw as The Dag and Courtney Eaton as Fragile. As for when it’ll hit cinemas? That’s anyone’s guess, but Warner Bros. is still hoping for a 2014 release.

Transformers: Age Of Extinction Teaser Poster

Today it's been announced that the movie (thanks to a poster up at Yahoo) will be called Transformers: Age Of Extinction.

The title and the sandy design for the poster seem to point towards the Dinobots’ presence, which further confirms what set spies have been reporting.

We also know that Wahlberg is a struggling inventor and single father to Tessa (Nicola Peltz) who in turn is dating race car driver Shane (Jack Reynor). Kelsey Grammer plays bad guy Harold Attinger, with Sophia Myles, Stanley Tucci, T.J. Miller, Titus Welliver, Bingbing Li, Victoria Summer and Geng Han all aboard.

In related Transformers news, the film’s Chinese outreach – including location work done in China itself – has continued apace via the Transformers 4 Chinese Actors Talent Search Reality Show (which really should have been called So You Think You Can Run Away From Giant Living Machines or, more simply, Optimus Idol) locking down Byron Li, Austin Lin, Candice Zhao and Teresa Daley for very small roles. They don’t even appear to have character names, so we’ll have to see how “Kung Fu fighter”, “sexy goddess”, “computer geek” and “cute Loli” fit into the overall story.

How Did Summer 2013 Work Out For Hollywood? You May Be Surprised.

How Did Summer 2013 Work Out For Hollywood? You May Be Surprised.
By: MattInRC

Hollywood's Summer is over, but is it time for them to go back to school?

The Summer movie season is 122 days - from the first Friday in May through Labor Day Weekend. This is Hollywood's Christmas season; and much like retailers, results matter. We usually provide you a quarterly report - and we'll do that once September is over - but for now, let's take a look at how Hollywood's most important season played out:

  • Iron Man 3 $408,643,923
  • Despicable Me 2 $354,635,000
  • Man of Steel $290,327,998
  • Monsters University $263,478,000
  • Fast & Furious 6 $238,660,700
  • Star Trek Into Darkness $228,261,000
  • World War Z $200,265,000
  • The Heat $157,256,000
  • The Great Gatsby (2013) $144,840,419
  • The Conjuring $133,827,000

As always, these numbers reveal interesting trends:

The season of Science Fiction/Sci-Fi did not lure moviegoers into theaters. For every hit (Star Trek) there were at least two disappointments (Pacific Rim and Elysium). All of these were enjoyable and well-made, yet audiences for the most part stayed away; why that happened is for astrologers to decide. However, we don't need one to know why After Earth bombed so terribly. Still, the genre's problems weren't just limited to Will Smith. In terms of domestic box office, Star Trek's $190 million budget meant it barely made a profit, sending a possible message that audiences might be burned out on dystopian future offerings.

Well-made horror can be financially successful. As scary as it was, The Conjuring was also a well-built and thoroughly scary affair. Who knew that genuine horror could still be that enjoyable? It's proof that high-quality fright does attract audiences, as it will probably remain the highest-grossing horror flick of 2013. With a sequel already planned, it sends a hopeful message that Hollywood might have learned its lesson and will actually produce horror flicks that won't rely on gore or bondage to sell them.

Animated movies and comic book movies are here to stay - sort of. Two of the top 10 films were animated, with DM2 blowing away everyone's expectations. Monsters U didn't make the grade in our review, but it proved a worthy adversary against other disappointing tentpoles. Even with these successes, Hollywood struck out big time with the flops Planes, Turbo, Epic, and The Smurfs 2. This is trend is just as disturbing as the Science-Fiction one, proving that families won't spend money on crap. The same goes for comic book movies, which ran the gamut from very good (Man of Steel) to decent (Iron Man 3) to flat out disappointing (The Wolverine). Surprisingly, the latter almost cracked the top 10, revealing that Hugh Jackman's bare chest can still bring the ladies. Comic book's newfound hold will be tested once more this year when Thor: The Dark World arrives in November. Let's hope it matches the amazing trailers we've received.

The top 10 total grosses were down from same time last year, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Last year featured two mammoth films that basically ate up all the Summer wallets of consumers in The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. That wasn't a healthy trend that Hollywood wanted to see repeated, and luckily they didn't have to. More films in 2013 shared in the profits, with 7 making over $200 million, as compared to last year's 6 and 4 in 2011. See our list below for proof. This sends a good message about the overall health of the market, making utter commercial failures like Kick-Ass 2 easier to swallow.

The words 'intelligence' and 'Summer' can happily coexist. True, there were a lot of explosions and thinly-veiled action fare this Summer; but when The Great Gatsby can beat mindless comedies like Hangover III, We're the Millers, and Grown Ups 2 you have to hope Hollywood will hear. Listen to my words: Smart films can make Summer money.

As a matter of comparison, here's 2012's Summer numbers:

  • Marvel's The Avengers $623,357,910
  • The Dark Knight Rises $448,139,099
  • The Amazing Spider-Man $262,030,663
  • Brave $237,283,207
  • Ted $218,815,487
  • Madagascar 3 $216,391,482
  • MIB 3 $179,020,854
  • Ice Age: Continental Drift $161,321,843
  • Snow White Huntsman $155,332,381
  • Prometheus $126,477,084

So, what do all these numbers mean? It means the despair we were reporting on a few months ago - of empty theaters and desperate managers - is all but gone. It also means the market is healthier, with more films breaking that hallowed $200 million mark than ever before. How that trend will play through in September and the fourth quarter is anyone's guess, but these numbers will hopefully let producers and directors sleep better at night. With a fourth quarter filled with Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, the trend is looking up for a strong finish. Add a darkhorse into that mix and you might even beat 2012's undeniably impressive results.

Stay with us as we keep an eye on what figures to be an interesting run to the holidays.

LIONSGATE PARTNERS WITH NET-A-PORTER.COM TO LAUNCH EXCLUSIVE FASHION COLLECTION INSPIRED BY “THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE”

NET-A-PORTER Presents “Capitol Couture by Trish Summerville” – A New Fashion Collection Designed by The Film’s

Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF), a leading global entertainment company, and NET-A-PORTER, the world's premier online luxury fashion and beauty retailer, today announced an exclusive fashion partnership for “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” the highly anticipated second film of the global blockbuster “The Hunger Games” franchise.

The luxury clothing line “Capitol Couture by Trish Summerville” consists of 16 ready-to-wear pieces as well as jewelry and leather goods inspired by “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and designed by Trish Summerville, the film’s Costume Designer. The collection will be available exclusively on NET-A-PORTER this fall in time for the film’s worldwide release on November 22, 2013.

“I am extremely proud of the designs that we created for ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ and there’s no partner more appropriate for ‘Capitol Couture’ than the world’s most cutting-edge luxury retailer,” Summerville said. "I can’t wait to share it with the public through this exclusive partnership with Lionsgate and NET-A-PORTER.”

Holli Rogers, Fashion Director, NET-A-PORTER.COM, stated, “When we were approached by Lionsgate to offer the collection by Trish Summerville to our customers exclusively, we jumped at the chance. Our customers take their style cues from myriad sources, from the latest runway shows and street trends to TV and film. Fashion plays an important role in ‘The Hunger Games’ series and is especially prevalent in ‘Catching Fire’, and fans of the franchise will see the film reference in the collection. This is also brilliant fashion in its own right, and we’re delighted to provide our customers with the chance to purchase limited-edition pieces designed by one of the most original costume designers in the industry today.”

Tim Palen, Lionsgate’s Chief Marketing Officer, said, “In the world of ‘The Hunger Games,’ one of the ways the Capitol defines itself is through fashion. When we launched Capitol Couture online (capitolcouture.pn), it took off and quickly became an out-of-world experience for both fans of the franchise and those obsessed with the future of fashion. Trish Summerville’s Capitol Couture collection for NET-A-PORTER is a brilliant, elegant and chic extension of this effort.”

Summerville will be honored this evening as Costume Designer of the Year on behalf of her work for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" at the 10th Annual Style Awards, which kicks off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. Summerville has also won the Costumer Designer’s Guild Award for her work on director David Fincher’s 2011 film “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” She has designed award-winning costumes in music videos from top recording artists including Justin Timberlake, Pink, Janet Jackson and The Black Eyed Peas. Her work can also be seen on Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” as well as in commercial campaigns for Apple, Nike, Heineken, Tanqueray, Volkswagen, Diet Coke and Chevrolet.

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” stars Academy Award® winner Jennifer Lawrence alongside Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, with Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence, from a screenplay by Simon Beaufoy and Michael deBruyn based upon the novel “Catching Fire” by Suzanne Collins and produced by Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik.

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” begins as Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins that has over 50 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.

The first installment of “The Hunger Games” was the 14th highest-grossing North American release of all time on its way to grossing nearly $700 million at the worldwide box office.

“Capitol Couture by Trish Summerville” will be available exclusively at NET-A-PORTER in November. Sign up to be notified of the arrival of the collection at:
