Enter For A Chance To Win A @Fandango Code Card To See #BLADERUNNER2049 In Phoenix

Movie Review: #LoganLucky

The white-trash hilarity of Logan Lucky makes for a wonderful viewing experience.
Review by Matt Cummings
Ah, White Trash where have you been in 2017 movies? Your bacchanalian ways, highly questionable fashion choices, and deep Southern accents have been sorely missed during one of the worst box office summers in 20 years. And while the comedy Logan Lucky will make absolutely no money upon its release, the film deserves high praise for its excellent direction, stellar cast, and whip-smart writing.

Having just been fired from his construction job due, hick Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) is searching desperately for a way to see his daughter while his ex-wife (Katie Holmes) has moved in with a local car dealer who doesn't seem to know how to drive stick shifts. Jimmy's sister (Riley Keough) is also concerned that Jimmy's days as a pro-football prospect might be his best. But Jimmy's brother Kyle (Adam Driver) hasn't given up, even though he himself is sidelined b…

Patty Jenkins Will Direct Wonder Woman Sequel

It's hardly a surprise, since there had already been talk of her involvement in the movie's early development, but now, according to Deadline, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is signing her deal to make the sequel.

Given the success of the film, it was only a matter of time before Warner Bros. secured her services, and the studio has reportedly offered her a handsome raise to come back and call the shots again, putting her on a much-deserved par with her male colleagues in terms of earnings.

Warners made word of the sequel official at the San Diego Comic-Con this year, announcing a December 2019 release date. Other than that, and the fact that it'll star Gal Gadot as the Amazonian warrior, no details have been released in terms of setting or other casting. Now, at least, the project has a definite leader.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Film Getting Closer To Happening

Stephen Daldry is Star Wars’ newest hope.

The Oscar-nominated director behind Billy Elliot and The Hours is in early talks to helm a Star Wars stand-alone movie centering on Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Sources say talks are at the earliest of stages and that the project has no script. If a deal is made, Daldry would oversee the development and writing with Lucasfilm brass.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi stand-alone is one of several projects being developed by Lucasfilm and Disney that fall outside the trilogies telling the saga of the Skywalker family. A Han Solo movie is now in the final stages of shooting under new director Ron Howard, and Lucasfilm is also considering pics centering on Yoda and bounty hunter Boba Fett, among other characters.

In the original Star Wars trilogy, Kenobi is a desert-dwelling and war-weary hermit who later proves to be a wise and powerful warrior, brandishing a lightsaber. He is briefly a mentor to a young Luke Skywalker before being cut d…

Movie Review: #TheHitmansBodyguard

The all-too-familiarity of The Hitman's Bodyguard still makes for an enjoyable time.
Review by Matt Cummings
If the old adage can be believed that some old movies need a newer version to rekindle interest in the genre, then The Hitman's Bodyguard might be the best example we've seen this year. And though it feels exactly like its predecessors, the film entertains with a way over-qualified cast that oozes comedic gems and sports great action, ready (but not quite qualified) to join the pantheon of buddy-cop comedies. Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) is living the high life as one of the world's top bodyguards, escorting an asset all the way to the airport, only to see him get whacked at the last second. As a result, Michael soon loses everything, sending his self-professed "AAA" status spiraling. But redemption is on its way as his ex-girlfriend/Interpol agent Amelia (Elodie Young) recruits him to escort a high-value target: none other than the assassin Kinc…

Filming has begun on location in England and Scotland on the Working Title Films production of Mary, Queen of Scots, starring Saoirse Ronan in the title role opposite Margot Robbie as Elizabeth I. Josie Rourke, artistic director of The Donmar Warehouse, makes her feature directorial debut on the movie.

Mary, Queen of Scots explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart. Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth 1. Each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Movie Review: #WindRiver A Perfect Thriller!

Suspenseful. A perfect thriller!
RAMA has returned.

The screenwriter who gave us “Sicario” and “Hell or High Water” has come back with “Wind River” which he also directed and I am now convinced more than ever that Taylor Sheridan is one of the best storytellers of our time. There’s something about his thrillers that are just so cunning and sharp and profound, like a great American classic, even novelist Dennis Lehane probably couldn’t come up with materials that are as skillfully played as this. And with “Wind River” Sheridan’s personal artistry mission to do some effort to right the wrongs that the system has committed against the Native Americans, continues.

The story is about a rookie FBI agent (Elizabeth Olsen) who teams up with a tracker/hunter (Jeremy Renner) with a tragic past in order to investigate the murder of a local girl on a remote Native American Reservation.

Sheridan has tackled themes surrounding the Native Americans before but with this latest one, it’s not so much th…

License To Drive Remake On It's Way

There are often calls, whenever a remake is announced, for studios (if they must remake at all) to focus on films that aren't considered classics. 1988's Corey Haim/Corey Feldman comedy License To Drive, for all its nostalgia appeal, falls into that category. And now original producer John Davis is cooking up a new version – with a twist.

In keeping with some recent takes on movies (such as the Anna Faris-focused Overboard), the new License will feature female leads. Writers Alish Brophy and Scott Miles are aboard to develop the new concept, which will be a spin on the original.

The '80s License saw Haim as 16-year-old Les Anderson, desperate to get out on the road, but fails his driving test. Undeterred, he decides to take out girlfriend Mercedes Lane (Heather Graham) in his grandfather's prized 1972 Cadillac Sedan de Ville, and the comic complications spin out from there.

This is just the latest remake on Davis' list: he's also shepherding yet another take on…

First Look At 'Marlon' A New Series Starring @MarlonWayans

Loosely inspired by the real life of star Marlon Wayans (“In Living Color,” “Scary Movie”), this update to the classic family comedy centers on a loving (but sometimes inappropriate) father committed to co-parenting his two kids with his very-together ex-wife. While his misguided fatherly advice, unstoppable larger-than-life personality and unpredictable Internet superstardom might get in the way sometimes, for Marlon family really always does come first — even if he’s the biggest kid of all.

The cast includes Marlon Wayans, Essence Atkins, Notlim Taylor, Amir O’Neil, Bresha Webb and Diallo Riddle

Christopher Moynihan serves as writer and executive producer. Marlon Wayans, Rick Alvarez, Michael Rotenberg and director Andy Ackerman (pilot) also executive produce. “Marlon” is produced by Universal Television, Wayans Brothers Entertainment, Bicycle Path Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Shonda Rhimes Heading To Netflix

THR is reporting the prolific showrunner behind 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'Scandal' and more has left her longtime home at ABC Studios for the streaming giant.

In a testament to the competition for talent, prolific showrunner Shonda Rhimes — the hit maker behind ABC's Grey's Anatomy, Scandal and more — has jumped ship from ABC Studios to Netflix.

Under the multiple-year deal, Rhimes and her Shondaland banner will create and produce new projects for the streaming giant. Rhimes' longtime producing partner Betsy Beers will continue to head Shondaland in the move to Netflix. Under what is said to be a rich four-year pact, Rhimes is expected to score a percentage of the back-end on programming she creates for Netflix.

“Shonda Rhimes is one of the greatest storytellers in the history of television,” Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said. “Her work is gripping, inventive, pulse-pounding, heart-stopping, taboo-breaking television at its best. I’ve gotten th…

Annabelle: Creation Takes The Top Spot

While other cinematic universes have been stumbling, the films spun off from The Conjuring are humming along nicely, winning decent reviews and box office success. The latest addition is Annabelle: Creation, which offers more details on the history of the possessed doll. This latest horror opened to $35 million, according to studio estimates.

It's another solid scare win for director David F. Sandberg, who made last year's Lights Out and, with more movies coming based on supernatural nasties from the first Conjuring and its sequel, the prospects seem bright.

Annabelle's arrival meant Dunkirk was once again second place with $11.4 million, but that's no worry for the movie, which has been out for four weeks already. Christopher Nolan's latest has passed $153 million in the States alone. At third we find the second new arrival of the week, animated sequel The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature, which earned $8.9 million.

The Dark Tower started to crumble quickly, falling from…
