Halloween Kills At The Box Office

In true Michael Myers fashion, the new Halloween slaughtered the competition at the Stateside box office this weekend. The return of The Shape (and Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode) saw an October record-breaking $77.5 million, another winner for the Blumhouse team. To be fair, the new horror didn't have any wide release competition, but it easily saw off the returning likes of A Star Is Born (which stayed in second place with $19.3 million) and Venom (finally deposed from the top spot, slipping to third with $18.1 million). Fourth was Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween , which kept its position and earned $9.7 million. Rounding out the top five we have First Man , which has continued to underperform, dropping a couple of places and adding $8.5 million. The Hate U Give expanded its screen count and rose in the charts to sixth, grabbing $7.5 million, that put it ahead of Smallfoot in seventh, with the yeti animated comedy earning $6.6 million. Night School fell to eigh

Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago. Master of horror John Carpenter executive produces and serves as creative consultant on this film, joining forces with cinema's current leading producer of horror, Jason Blum (Get Out, Split, The Purge, Paranormal Activity). Inspired by Carpenter's classic, filmmakers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride crafted a story that carves a new path from the events in the landmark 1978 film, and Green also directs. Halloween is also produced by Malek Akkad, whose Trancas International Films has produced the Halloween series since its inception, and Bill Block (Elysium, District 9). In addition to Carpenter and Curtis, Green and McBride will executive produce under their Rough House Pictures banner. Ryan Freimman also serves in that role.

Jamie Lee Curtis Returning To Halloween

Cue the iconic piano notes. Jamie Lee Curtis is returning to Halloween , the horror franchise that helped to launch her career. "Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode in HALLOWEEN, released by Universal Pictures October 19, 2018. #HalloweenMovie," Blumhouse Productions tweeted Friday. "Same porch. Same clothes. Same issues. 40 years later. Headed back to Haddonfield one last time for Halloween," Curtis tweeted. David Gordon Green, the co-creator of HBO's Eastbound & Down and director of movies such as Pineapple Express and Our Brand Is Crisis, will helm a new movie with a script co-written by him and frequent collaborator Danny McBride. That announcement was made in February by John Carpenter, the co-creator of the franchise and director the 1978 original. Blumhouse, Miramax and Trancas are the production entities involved. Carpenter will executive produce along with Gordon Green and McBride’s Rough House Pictures. "

Michael Myers Will Return in Halloween Returns

The man behind the mask will slash once more. By Brandon Wolfe Michael Myers has been out of our lives for far too long. His last outing was in 2009’s Halloween II , the sequel to Rob Zombie’s 2007 remake of the original film. However, Zombie’s Michael Myers - hulking, unmasked, more than a little white-trashy – was a far cry from the sleeker, more elegant killer from the olden days. The last outing in the original Halloween continuity (or at least one of several competing continuities; it gets confusing) was 2002’s Busta Rhymes-powered Halloween: Resurrection , which was hardly a glorious note to go out on. But now Michael is finally coming home in the idiotically titled Halloween Returns (it returns every year!). Dimension Films and Trancas International Films are set to start production next month on the latest installment. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, writers on the last batch of Saw films, wrote the script, said before to be a “ recalibration ” in an attempt to coin

Saw Writers "Recalibrating" Halloween

Michael Myers is in the shop for a recalibration. By Brandon Wolfe The Hollywood Reporter is Hollywood reporting that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, writers of the final four (so far) installments in the Saw series, have been hired to write the script for what is being called a "recalibration" of the Halloween franchise. Malek Akkad, son of longtime Halloween executive producer Moustapha Akkad, will be producing along with Matt Stein. The big question here, obviously, is what in God's holy name does "recalibration" mean? One would think it's simply a sly way to say "reboot" without using that tired old chestnut, but Bloody Disgusting has confirmed that the film will be neither a remake of the original classic nor a sequel to Rob Zombie's reboot films from 2007 and 2009 (it will also not be produced in 3D, as previously rumored). Unless it's a new installment in the previous, pre-Zombie timeline, that doesn't leave mu
