SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN Trailer

CBS Films has hooked the trailer for the film SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN. I know the title puts you off but give the trailer a try first before you judge the movie. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is an upcoming British comedy film directed by Lasse Hallström and starring Emily Blunt, Ewan McGregor and Kristin Scott Thomas. The screenplay is by Simon Beaufoy, based on a novel of the same name by Paul Torday.

From the director of Chocolat and the Oscar-winning® screenwriter of Slumdog Millionaire comes the inspirational comedy Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. When Britain’s leading fisheries expert (Ewan McGregor) is approached by a consultant (Emily Blunt) to help realize a sheikh’s (Amr Waked) vision of bringing the sport of fly-fishing to the desert, he immediately thinks the project is both absurd and unachievable.

But when the Prime Minister’s overzealous press secretary (Kristin Scott Thomas) latches on to it as a “good will” story, this unlikely team will put it all on the line and embark on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible, possible.

SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS Movie Review By: RAMA

SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS Movie Review
By: RAMA

So what did RAMA think of the movie? Make sure to follow him on Facebook and Twitter.

And 2011′s movie for the easily amused is.. SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS. I thought the previous movie was enjoyable because it presented Sherlock Holmes in a new, refreshing, and renaissance form, a man with many skills, but watching him do his business again in the sequel is a waste of time and money.

Robert Downey, Jr.’s portrayal of the man who solves crimes by way of deductive and logical reasoning gets even more ridiculous this time around.

He’s a complete buffoon, he’s gotten more careless than Jack Sparrow.

And the bromance between Holmes and Watson has turned from hilarious to uncomfortable and disturbing.
One would even question Holmes’ mental health or if he suffers from any type of autism or A-D-D.
This movie is a mess, a couple of bumbling bickering bantering characters combined with excessive use of CG.

Not to mention Jared Harris’ rather tame, uninspired version of Prof. Moriarty who’s supposed to be one of the most highly respected masterminds of the fictional world. I had high hopes because I think Harris is a fantastic actor and Moriarty is to Holmes what Joker is to Batman but I would rather play any other game but this one…

There is a new criminal mastermind at large–Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)–and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder–a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by one Professor Moriarty.
Mixing business with pleasure, Holmes tracks the clues to an underground gentlemen’s club, where he and his brother, Mycroft Holmes (Stephen Fry) are toasting Dr. Watson on his last night of bachelorhood. It is there that Holmes encounters Sim (Noomi Rapace), a Gypsy fortune teller, who sees more than she is telling and whose unwitting involvement in the prince’s murder makes her the killer’s next target. Holmes barely manages to save her life and, in return, she reluctantly agrees to help him. The investigation becomes ever more dangerous as it leads Holmes, Watson and Sim across the continent, from England to France to Germany and finally to Switzerland.
But the cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead as he spins a web of death and destruction–all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history.

I’m a big fan of Noomi Rapace’s performance in the Swedish adaptation of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and I was actually looking forward to her role as gypsy Madam Heron but her performance in this film may well be one of this year’s dullest. It actually cracks me up because all I saw on the screen were Holmes and Watson arguing and the camera would include Noomi’s face staring at them, clueless, not knowing what she’s supposed to contribute.

I kinda feel sorry for Jude Law in this sequel, as Watson, he’s the sorriest sidekicks I’ve ever seen. He’s like Holmes’ very own sideshow bob. The only reason he sticks around is because he thinks Holmes could be helpful and sweet when he wants to be but for the most part, Watson’s job is cover Holmes’ back and nothing more.

I understand the intention of making their friendship seem like ‘The Odd Couple’, Holmes is Oscar and Watson is Felix. It’s a ‘you can’t live with them, you can’t live without them’ type relationship and in this sequel, the story emphasizes how far Holmes would go to protect his dear friend, he’d even go drag if that’s what it takes. By the way, the image of Downey Jr. in drag, with full on female make up and attire, sadly is not an image you can erase from your memory over night.

So I understand what the story is going for, and how Moriarty and Holmes’ brother Mycroft, played by Stephen Fry, come into play in all this, with the plot to start a big war.
But Guy Ritchie’s focus on pre-conceived martial art fight sequences, juvenile disguises, childish jokes, and explosives is overbearing and pointless.

And the investigation process is not that engaging either. It always resorts to what type of silly comment or behavior would Holmes say or do next.

I thought to myself that I should do something ambitious and good for my local community. Who doesn't want good Karma leading into the New Year? As far as I know no other  blog or website has sponsored their own event before.

So with a little help of the internet I was able to reconnect with an old high school friend and we put this in motion. I wasn't sure if there was enough time to put together something like this together. But I thought to myself I have to at least try.

So we put together the first annual Toy Drop For The Kids benefiting Toys For Tots.

With the help of my friend Jennifer and her team over at Styles For Less we were able to make it happen. Not only is Styles For Less giving us a location to hold this toy drive. They are going to be raffling off a $100 gift card to their store.

Next I called upon my buddy Randy from TheArnoldFans and asked if he would be able to help with the flyer and he came through like a champ. (If you need freelance art work done, head over to his site.) Also, he will be adding an awesome Giveaway to the raffle.

Then I called upon my buddy Jerry from LJ's Jerky and asked if he wanted to be apart of this amazing event and without hesitation he came aboard. ( He will be handling out samples of his jerky at the event and it is AMAZING). Jerry also contributed to the giveaways that will be happening at the event.

Now we need your help to get the word out there and make these kids have an AMAZING Christmas.

Here are all the details for the upcoming event:

FOCUS FEATURES Unleashes First Half 2012 Line-Up

FOCUS FEATURES ANNOUNCES RELEASE DATES FOR FIRST HALF OF 2012;
BEING FLYNN, SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD, MOONRISE KINGDOM OPENINGS SET.

Three previously announced Focus Features movies for 2012 release have been assigned confirmed domestic opening dates for the first half of the year. The company made the announcement today.

Being Flynn is the new dramatic feature from Academy Award-nominated writer/director Paul Weitz (About a Boy). Adapted from Nick Flynn’s 2004 memoir Another Bulls—t Night in Suck City, the movie explores bonds both unbreakable and fragile between parent and child. Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine and There Will Be Blood) portrays Nick Flynn, a young writer seeking to define himself. He misses his late mother, Jody (four-time Academy Award nominee Julianne Moore), and her loving nature. But his father, Jonathan, is not even a memory, as Nick has not seen the man in 18 years. Jonathan Flynn (two-time Academy Award winner Robert De Niro) has long defined himself as a great writer, “a master storyteller.” Suddenly facing eviction from his apartment, Jonathan impulsively reaches out to Nick and the two come face-to-face. Being Flynn will open in select cities on Friday, March 2nd.

Golden Globe Award winner Steve Carell and Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley star in the comedy Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, which marks the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Lorene Scafaria (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist). Set in a too-near future, the movie explores what people will do when humanity’s last days are at hand. As the respective journeys of Dodge (Mr. Carell) and Penny (Ms. Knightley) converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World will open in theaters nationally on Friday, April 20th.

Moonrise Kingdom is the new feature from two-time Academy Award nominee Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore). Set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, the film follows a young boy and girl (newcomers Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) falling in love. When they are moved to run away together, various
(more)
factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down – which might not be such a bad thing. Bruce Willis plays the town sheriff; two-time Academy Award nominee Edward Norton is cast as a camp leader; and Academy Award nominee Bill Murray and Academy Award winner Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents. Also in the cast are Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman. The original screenplay is by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola (The Darjeeling Limited). Moonrise Kingdom will open in select cities on Friday, May 25th.

In addition to the three newly dated films, current and upcoming Focus Features releases include writer/director Dee Rees’ contemporary drama Pariah, which world-premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival; Sam Fell and Chris Butler’s ParaNorman, the new 3D stop-motion comedy thriller from animation company LAIKA, which was previously announced for a 2012 nationwide domestic release on August 17th; the historical tale Hyde Park on Hudson, directed by Roger Michell and starring Academy Award nominees Bill Murray and Laura Linney; Joe Wright’s epic romance Anna Karenina, adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard and starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law, and Aaron Johnson; and Tomas Alfredson’s thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, and Tom Hardy.

Focus Features and Focus Features International (www.focusfeatures.com) comprise a singular global company. This worldwide studio makes original and daring films that challenge the mainstream to embrace and enjoy voices and visions from around the world that deliver global commercial success. The company operates as Focus Features in North America, and as Focus Features International (FFI) in the rest of the world.
