When the job goes dangerously awry, the only way he can keep Irene and her son alive is to do what he does best—Drive!

Closer Look At The Hellfire Club From X-Men First Class

I am just not impressed with the posters for the upcoming film X-Men First Class. If only they up the effort into these posters like they have for their trailers I would have nothing to complain about.

The one positive thing about the poster is we get a closer look at Hellfire Club.

The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones, Oliver Platt, and Kevin Bacon.

X-Men: First Class is scheduled for release on June 3, 2011.

SYNOPSIS:

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones, Oliver Platt, and Kevin Bacon. Matthew Vaughn (“Kick-Ass”) directs, and the producers are Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer. Singer, who helmed the acclaimed blockbusters “X-Men” and “X2,” wrote the story for X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.

First Image From Focus Features/ LAIKA's ParaNorman

=""

Updated:

Here is the first image from the upcoming film.

I got some exciting news in my email today, I received the press release that Focus Features and LAIKA are reteaming again for two more films. An interesting thing about LAIKA is it is fueled by the vision of its owner, NIKE Co-Founder and Chairman Phil Knight. We all learn something new everyday.

First up is ParaNorman, In the comedy thriller, a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman (voiced by Mr. McPhee), who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst of all, moronic grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.

The film has a pretty impressive voice cast includes Academy Award nominee Casey Affleck (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford), Tempestt Bledsoe (The Cosby Show), Jeff Garlin (Toy Story 3), John Goodman (Monsters, Inc.), Bernard Hill (Titanic), Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air), Leslie Mann (Rio), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (How to Train Your Dragon), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In), and Tony and Emmy Award winner Elaine Stritch (30 Rock).

NEW YORK and PORTLAND, OR, May 4, 2011 – Focus Features and LAIKA, the two companies behind the Academy Award-nominated animated feature Coraline are reteaming for LAIKA’s next two projects. The first of the duo, ParaNorman, will be released nationwide on August 17th, 2012. The second, yet-to-be-named, picture will be released nationwide in 2014. Following the groundbreaking Coraline, ParaNorman is only the second stop-motion animated feature to be made in 3D. Focus CEO James Schamus and LAIKA President and CEO Travis Knight made the announcement today.

As on Coraline, Focus will hold worldwide distribution rights to the movies, and Universal Pictures International will release them overseas. Coraline is Focus’ second-highest-grossing movie of all time, with over $75 million domestically. The picture earned Golden Globe, BAFTA, Critics’ Choice, and Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Feature Film; and was named one of the year’s 10 Best Films by the American Film Institute (AFI) with an AFI Award.

Currently in production, ParaNorman is being directed by Sam Fell and Chris Butler, from Mr. Butler’s original screenplay. Mr. Fell was director of The Tale of Despereaux and Flushed Away. Mr. Butler was storyboard supervisor on Coraline and storyboard artist on Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride. The voice cast includes Academy Award nominee Casey Affleck (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford), Tempestt Bledsoe (The Cosby Show), Jeff Garlin (Toy Story 3), John Goodman (Monsters, Inc.), Bernard Hill (Titanic), Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air), Leslie Mann (Rio), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (How to Train Your Dragon), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In), and Tony and Emmy Award winner Elaine Stritch (30 Rock).

In the comedy thriller, a small town comes under siege by zombies.

Arianne Sutner, animation producer on The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and Travis Knight are producing ParaNorman. Academy Award winner Brian Van’t Hul (King Kong, Coraline) is the movie’s visual effects supervisor; Emmy Award winner Nelson Lowry (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride) is its production designer; and Tristan Oliver (Fantastic Mr. Fox, the Academy Award-winning Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit) is the director of photography on ParaNorman.

Mr. Schamus commented, “Everyone at Focus is proud to be partnered with LAIKA again on their newest wondrous creations. Travis Knight is both an extraordinary businessman and a visionary artist who we know will shepherd these projects with imagination and originality. We’re thrilled to have ParaNorman as our next movie together, one which marries the stunning visuals of 3D stop-motion with a compelling, heartfelt, and funny story anchored by a terrifically relatable underdog hero.”

Mr. Knight added, “ParaNorman is a story of intense beauty and emotional truth. It’s audacious, has genuine heart, and is funny as hell. We’re incredibly excited to share this wonderful story with the world. And we’re privileged to work again with Focus Features, with whom we share a commitment to bold, distinctive, and enduring films. LAIKA and Focus are truly kindred spirits. James Schamus and his extraordinary team have built their reputation on original thinking, old-fashioned muscle, and an unerring fidelity to creatively rich and thematically challenging cinema. We’re thrilled to extend the relationship that began with Coraline and look forward to being a part of the Focus/Universal family for years to come.”

Malin Akerman Joins Rock Of Ages

The final piece of the casting puzzle is in place for Rock Of Ages, the Adam Shankman-directed adaptation of the Broadway musical for New Line Cinema. Malin Akerman is set to play the role of Constance, a journalist who intends to write an expose on decadent rocker Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise). After a seduction, and after they sing a duet on the Foreigner song I Want To Know What Love Is, they find out in a naughty bedroom romp. This has been a hot role.

Shankman at first courted Anne Hathaway, who couldn't do it because she landed the Catwoman role in The Dark Knight Rises. Then, he courted Amy Adams, but Shankman again lost out to a superhero when she landed Lois Lane in Man of Steel. Akerman joins Bryan Cranston, who plays the mayor of Los Angeles, his prudish wife that Catherine Zeta-Jones will play, Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Diego Boneta and Julianne Hough.

Not a bad cast for a Chris D'Arienzo musical that started as a small off-Broadway show before moving to Broadway and now the big screen. Akerman is currently shooting Medallion opposite Nic Cage and will next be seen starring with Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston in the Universal Pictures comedy Wanderlust, as well as Bang Bang Club.

Will Hugh Jackman Take A Voyage?

Hugh Jackman is director Shawn Levy's first choice to star in 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Voyage, the James Cameron-produced 3D tent pole film. It's early days, but this would give Jackman a big movie to do while he and Fox sort things out with The Wolverine. The film was on a fast track to start production this year, until Darren Aronofsky dropped out as director. They've considered such helmers as Source Code's Duncan Jones and David Slade, but haven't yet hired a helmer. There has also been complications because the Christopher McQuarrie script is set almost entirely in Japan, a country still dealing with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and monsoon. Pushing the picture back wouldn't hurt Fox that much, because expectations are high for this summer's X-Men: First Class, which would keep the franchise vibrant. It would also keep Jackman and Levy in the Fox fold at a time when their recent collaboration, Real Steel, looks like it could be a big hit for DreamWorks in the fall.

In February that Levy had come aboard Fantastic Voyage, the re-imagining of the 1966 original about a team of scientists shrunk into a ship in an attempt to save a colleague's life. Fox and Cameron are planning an ambitious 3D film with a script by Shane Salerno and Laeta Kalogridis, and the new draft is coming in imminently. The tone of the movie now has a dramatic love story that has Levy very excited. Fantastic Voyage doesn't have a green light yet. I'm told that Jackman and Levy got along famously on Real Steel, the DreamWorks action drama that will be distributed by Disney October 7. DreamWorks is so bullish on the film that it already has signed the original writer, John Gatins, to a 7-figure deal to write the sequel. Fox has made a deal for Levy and Jackman to team on an untitled pitch being written by Lost's Carlton Cuse.

Today we were notified that the IMMORTALS trailer would be attached to THOR. The studio sent over a new photo of Henry Cavill as Theseus.

Someone looks alittle grumpy.

THOR won’t be the only mythic hero from antiquity making a silver screen debut on Friday. Relativity Media is proud to announce that this weekend the new 3-D epic IMMORTALS trailer will debut with THOR in theaters.

Visionary director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) and producers Gianni Nunnari (300), Mark Canton (300) and Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter) unleash an epic tale of treachery, vengeance and destiny in Immortals, a stylish and spectacular 3-D adventure. As a power-mad king razes ancient Greece in search of a legendary weapon, a heroic young villager rises up against him in a thrilling quest as timeless as it is powerful.

The brutal and bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and his murderous Heraklion army are rampaging across Greece in search of the long lost Bow of Epirus. With the invincible Bow, the king will be able to overthrow the Gods of Olympus and become the undisputed master of his world. With ruthless efficiency, Hyperion and his legions destroy everything in their wake, and it seems nothing will stop the evil king’s mission.

As village after village is obliterated, a stonemason named Theseus (Henry Cavill) vows to avenge the death of his mother in one of Hyperion’s raids. When Theseus meets the Sybelline Oracle, Phaedra (Freida Pinto), her disturbing visions of the young man’s future convince her that he is the key to stopping the destruction. With her help, Theseus assembles a small band of followers and embraces his destiny in a final desperate battle for the future of humanity.

Rachel Weisz To Become A Witch

Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz is in negotiations to play the villainess in Oz: The Great and Powerful, Disney’s prequel-ish take on The Wizard of Oz tale that stars James Franco and Mila Kunis and is being directed by Sam Raimi.

The movie stars Franco as Oz, a snake oil salesman who finds himself dealing with real magic when his balloon carries him into a fabled land and he runs into genuine witches.

Weisz would play Evanora, a powerful, evil witch who intends to rule the land. She is the sister of Theadora (Kunis) and tries to seduce her to the dark side.

The role would be a change of pace for Weisz, who — despite an eclectic resume ranging from her Oscar-winning work in The Constant Gardener to Wong Kar Wai’s My Blueberry Nights to The Mummy — has never worked on a project of this scale and never tackled what is sure to be a splashy role.

New IMMORTALS Image Of Henry Cavill

Here's a new photo from the upcoming film IMMORTALS starring future Superman Henry Cavill.

The film was directed by Tarsem Singh, and stars Henry Cavill (upcoming Superman Reboot), Stephen Dorff (Public Enemies), Isabel Lucas (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), Luke Evans (Robin Hood), Kellan Lutz (Twilight series), with John Hurt (Hellboy), and Mickey Rourke (Iron Man 2)

I still get a feeling from the footage and trailer I have seen of this film before, that's right I think it was called 300.

Kathryn Bigelow To Kill Osama Bin Laden

While Oscar-scooping filmmaking team Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal have been focusing a lot of energy on getting star-laden thriller Triple Frontier into shape, it was announced last December that they were quietly working on another film following a Black Ops team that we described back than as something which could be “so topical it hurts.” Well, it turns out that it’ll be even more topical than they thought since the untitled project follows the very team who ended up killing Osama Bin Laden on Sunday.

With his contacts in military intelligence, Boal had in fact been following the Navy SEAL team that was part of the search for Osama, and Bigelow had planned to turn his eventual script into a film for a while. Now Boal will be feverishly re-writing to add in the raid on the compound in Pakistan where he was eventually found and shot.

According to Variety, Bigelow plans to wait and see how the Arab world reacts to the news before pushing ahead too much further, but she still wants to kick off filming this summer, with casting now underway. There are also issues to be ironed out with where the movie can be shot and how secure the locations will have to be.

THOR Movie Review By: Joe D

THOR Movie Review
By: Joe D

I thought it would be interesting to get an honest review done on THOR by someone who actually has read the comic books and knows the mythology behind the story. And who better to ask than Joe D. Joe has been a comic book fan for life and with all the comic book films coming out this summer you can bet you'll hear from Joe again. So without further adieu Here'ssss Joe.

My name is Joe. John has asked me to review Thor for him from my comic book geek standpoint. Thanks to John, I was able to get an advance screening pass to see Thor this past Saturday morning… and I have to say, the short review is… Go. See. It.

Now… first off, as I mentioned, I’m a comic book geek. I’ve thoroughly been enjoying the onslaught of comic book movies within the last few years. I’m glad comics are finally getting the notoriety they deserve as a story-telling medium. Now, don’t get me wrong… there have been plenty of movies out there that have been mediocre at best when it comes to relaying their story. Most of which have been second string characters that most of us fans aren’t too concerned with... which is okay. But, there have been some mainstream, highly recognizable characters that were, in my opinion, treated poorly… every one remembers “X3” and “Superman Returns”? Yeah. Then we get the movies that grab you, sit you down, strap you in, and take you for one hell of a ride. Movies like “Batman Begins” and “Iron Man” have set the bar pretty darn high for comic book movies. Marvel Comics seems to be the front runner of the genre and has had three movies laying the groundwork for the upcoming Avengers based film… “Iron Man”, “Incredible Hulk” and “Iron Man 2”. This week, we get our fourth installment “Thor” and on July, 22nd we get fifth installment… ”Captain America”. I for one am extremely excited for these to all come together. But until then… let’s look at “Thor”.

First off, we got a pretty kick-ass 3D “Captain America” trailer attached to “Thor”… oh… did I mention the screening was in 3D? No? Well yeah… 3D. Once the Paramount logo rolled on through… the starry night sky rolls down to introduce us to our first group of characters… Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard), and Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings). Jane is a scientist trying to map and predict atmospheric disturbances and they are searching the site where she predicts on to be. After some complaining from Darcy, sure enough, the disturbance happens right in front of them; a roiling cloud of dust and light. Jane pushes Darcy to enter the cloud and as they do, see a silhouette, a man, and proceed to hit him. The disturbance ends, they race out to see who they hit… and I’m sure you can guess who it was. “Where did he come from?”

Once again we see the stars... a monologue starts up… it is the voice of Odin (Anthony Hopkins) narrating on the creation of the universe, man, and a war between gods and monsters. We learn that Asgard has remained vigilant for centuries once its enemies were defeated and man was saved from destruction. This story is not only told for our benefit, but for the benefit of two young boys… Thor and Loki… brothers born to be kings... we get our first look into Thor’s warrior spirit as the young Thor talks of crushing his enemies. Fast forward to a grand ceremony… Thor is to be made king of Asgard. But, the coronation is cut short as enemies of old try to steal an ancient artifact, deep within Asgard’s vaults. Again, Thor shows his warrior’s spirit for battle, followed by a little chastising from Odin.

We now get to see the Warriors Three up nice and close… Fandral (Josh Dallas), Hogun (Tadanobu Asano), Volstagg (Ray Stevenson… formerly another Marvel character, the Punisher in “Punisher: War Zone), and Sif (Jaimie Alexander). I was hoping for Volstagg to be bigger, like in the comics. Ray Stevenson is a big guy… but Volstagg is bigger. After all… he is called the “Volstagg the Voluminous”. I was, at first, a little put off by having a Japanese actor portraying Hogun and an African American (Idris Elba) actor playing Heimdall… characters that are Norse in origin. But that was me not suspending disbelief. After seeing Heimdall in action and listening to him… it was all good. Hogun has few lines.

Thor, Loki, Sif, and the Warriors Three travel the Bifrost Bridge to meet Heimdall (the aforementioned Idris Elba) and as for passage to Jottenheim to seek out the transgressors. In Jottenheim, Thor lets his arrogance get the better of him and a battle ensues.

The action is presented well… we even get to see the classic maneuver of Thor throwing Mjolnir (Thor’s hammer) to only have it return to his hand. It’s all in the details right? Thor and his comrades wind up getting over-powered and rescued in turn by Odin himself. As they return to Asgard, we get to see the emotionally charged argument between Thor and Odin from the previews. Odin strips Thor of his power and banishes him to Midgard. As Thor is being sent, Odin whispers to Mjolnir the classic inscription Thor fans will be all too familiar with… “Whoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor”.

We have now caught back up to where Jane, Erik, and Darcy have found Thor. They take Thor to the hospital and continue on with their work. With Thor now on Midgard (Earth) we are treated to a few light hearted scenes of Thor learning of mortal life. The scene in which Thor has breakfast and discovers coffee is excellent.

Thor leans of Mjolnir’s descent to Midgard and sets out to reclaim it. We discover that S.H.I.E.L.D., and everyone’s new favorite agent, Agent Coulson, is back for more. As Thor tears through the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents at the site, we get introduced to Agent Barton. That’s right… Hawkeye makes his appearance in Thor played by Jeremy Renner. It’s a quick cameo that left me looking forward to his appearance in Avengers.

Unfortunately Thor fails to regain Mjolnir and is in turn taken prisoner by S.H.I.E.L.D. While in his cell, we once again see moments from the preview as Agent Coulson interrogates him as to where he comes from, who he is, and where he got his training. All to which Thor gives no response. As Agent Coulson steps out, the door slides and Loki makes his appearance on Midgard. Loki tells Thor that his banishment is permanent. Additional news leaves Thor broken and beaten. Loki departs and Thor accepts his fate.
We get to see Chris Hemsworth show Thor’s vulnerability… the opposing side of the coin to Thor’s arrogance and warrior’s pride. Thor does get released with a little help.

The movie continues with scenes switching from Asgard to Midgard. We learn of Loki’s plans and the plans of the others to get Thor’s banishment lifted. I feel I’ve already spoiled too much for you so I’ll keep the rest short and sweet. The Warrior’s Three and Sif make their way to Midgard, followed by the one weapon most warriors of Asgard fear. Thor has finally learned some humility from his time amongst the mortals and is deemed worthy to once again hold Mjolnir. The final battle between Thor and Loki rages on atop the Bifrost bridge. Thor makes one last daring gamble to save the Realms from Loki… a choice that may forever keep him from ever returning to Midgard and Jane Foster. In the end, we see life on both Asgard and Midgard move forward.

Overall, I was very pleased with “Thor”. I laude many kudos to Kenneth Branagh for his ability to not only have a good eye and make a visually stunning film, but I found that there was an excellent balance between action, drama, and comedy. The light hearted scenes showed some good character depth and had some fun moments. The action was superb. We got to see some classic Thor moves and the action overall didn’t overshadow the rest of the film. There were some good “WHOA!” moments, some great laugh out loud moments, and some good “That was cool!” moments.

I do recommend that you go see “Thor”… my wife was unable to attend, and I have no problem with going to see this again!

Seven Samurai Remake Has Found It's Director

British helmer Scott Mann has signed on to direct a remake of Japanese pic "Seven Samurai," which is being produced by the Weinstein Co. and Japan's Kurosawa Prods.

Pic, which has an estimated budget of $60 million, will be a contempo interpretation of the 1954 original.

It centers on a town in Northern Thailand that recruits seven paramilitary contractors from around the globe to defend it from an imminent attack.

Mann, who most recently helmed Robert Carlyle and Ving Rhames starrer "The Tournament" -- which gained cult status on both sides of the pond -- will help TWC develop the screenplay, which they hope to shoot later this year.

Scribe John Fusco ("The Forbidden Kingdom," "Young Guns") has been also been developing the project at TWC for 18 months.

Mann recently announced several projects in development under his expanding Mann Made Films banner with U.K. producing partner James Edward Barker, including horror pic "Saint Mary's" with helmer Michael Bassett ("Silent Hill 3D") attached.

Glee 3D Singing Into Theaters In August

When I first saw a preview of the show at Comic-Con 2009, I just knew this show was going to be big, but 20th Century Fox TV and film divisions have partnered to produce GLEE LIVE! 3D!, a feature film based on the upcoming Glee Live! In Concert! North American tour. Never thought this would happen.

The studio plans to release the film for a two-week engagement starting Aug. 12. Gleeks who were unable to get tickets will be able to catch the concert in 3D. The tour starred 14 members of the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning TV show, and the film will also feature behind-the-scenes moments. The feature will be directed by Fame helmer Kevin Tancharoen.

Given the rabid following that Ryan Murphy's show has, this seems like as good as a cash machine for the studio. It worked for Sony on the Michael Jackson documentary This Is It! (whose limited run was extended, something that always seems to happen), and Paramount cleaned up with the Justin Bieber documentary Never Say Never.

The film features performances by series regulars Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Mark Salling, Dianna Agron, Naya Rivera, Heather Morris, Harry Shum Jr, Chord Overstreet, Darren Criss and Ashley Fink. The concert tour finishes June 18 in Uniondale, N.Y., before moving on to the UK.
