John Wick Takes Down The Avengers At The Box Office

If there was anyone who was going to finally knock the Avengers from the top spot at the US box office, it was John Wick, who could probably have taken down Thanos without all the complicated hassle. And so it has proved, with John Wick: Chapter Three – Parabellum has launched in first place with $57 million this weekend, according to studio estimates. That's the best start for a Wick film to date, and it has already earned more in one weekend than the original film took in total in the States. Avengers: Endgame , meanwhile, was nudged down to second place, yet it still took in $29.4 million. Domestically, the movie has now made $770 million, passing Avatar in that regard, though it has a little way to go to best it worldwide, moving the needle to $2.5 billion in its fourth weekend (Avatar still sits at $2.7 billion). Pokemon: Detective Pikachu earned $24.8 million in third place, pushing past $94 million in the US. A Dog's Journey , the sequel to 2017's A Dog's

James Cameron Announces Avatar 2 Delayed

Read on to learn how far the sequels have been pushed back. Story by David Clark It was announced today that the follow-up film to the wildly successful Avatar has been pushed out of 2016 and into 2017. James Cameron has big plans for the future of the Avatar franchise which was apparent when it was learned that Avatar would have not 1, but 3 sequels. The 3 upcoming films have still not received their finished titles. They are still known as Avatar 2 , Avatar 3 , and Avatar 4 . Cameron’s plan has always been to write and film all three movies at the same time and then release one film per year. However, due to the delay the first film will not appear until 2017. Currently assisting Cameron with the writing of the individual movies are a couple of well known names. Working on Avatar 2 are Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Josh Friedman (The Sarah Connor Chronicles) is working on Avatar 3. Shane Salerno (Savages) is also working with C

Zoe Saldana To Star In NBC’s Rosemary’s Baby Miniseries

Avatar and Star Trek star Zoe Saldana has been tapped as the lead in NBC’s four-hour miniseries Rosemary’s Baby , an adaptation of the 1967 best-selling suspense novel by Ira Levin. The mini centers on Rosemary ( Saldana ), a young wife and would-be mother who, with her husband, moves into a Paris apartment that has a darkly storied past. After finally getting pregnant, she becomes increasingly suspicious that both her husband and their mysterious neighbors have ulterior motives about the future of her child. The role was played by Mia Farrow in Roman Polanski’s 1968 feature adaptation. “Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses, and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin’s infamous novel,” said NBC’s head of longform Quinn Taylor. “With Zoe leading the cast under the direction of Agnieszka Holland, this reimagined event miniseries is off to a great start.” Holland is directing the mini from a sc

Get Ready For 4 Avatar Films

Yesterday’s news that James Cameron has hired Black Dahlia screenwriter Josh Friedman to work on Avatar 2 with him was apparently just the tip of the iceberg lurking in Pandora’s oceans (assuming Pandora’s oceans have cold enough zones for icebergs, which remains to be seen). Regardless, Cameron has now made good on his statement of May last year about being the Avatar business, confirming he’ll make Avatar 2, 3 and 4 ready for release in a year apart from 2016 onwards. It appears that spending time in New Zealand working on the stories has allowed some of Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings spirit to creep into Cameron's already workaholic brain. Now Cameron and 20th Century Fox have gone public with the announcement that, in addition to Friedman, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes co-writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and Savages scribe Shane Salerno will each take co-scribbling duties on the three new trips to Pandora. Salerno has form collaborating with Cameron, as he worke

James Cameron To Produce Cirque du Soleil Film

To Be Shot In 3D Of Course Director Andrew Adamson has begun production on an enterprising family-oriented feature film that marries James Cameron's 3D wizardry with the precision and spectacle of Cirque du Soleil . Deadline reports the untitled film is a hybrid combining narrative storytelling with Cirque performances that are being captured in 3D from different themed Cirque du Soleil shows in Las Vegas. Those performances serve as the backdrop of a magical world where the film's lead character has been transported. The film is being financed primarily by Cirque du Soleil, and Cameron is serving as producer. Also producing are Reel FX Entertainment partners Cary Granat and Ed Jones, Cirque du Soleil, and Adamson's Strange Weather Films' partner Aron Warner. The intention is for this to launch a series of family features that incorporate Cirque du Soleil into their storylines. Adamson, who directed the first two installments of the Shrek and Chronicles of Narnia

Avatar: Special Edition DVD/Blu-Ray Update

Avatar: Special Edition DVD/Blu-Ray Extra 16 Minutes Of Footage Avatar: Special Edition hit theaters yesterday and over 9 minutes of extra footage. Has anybody gone out to see it again or for the first time? I would recommend going to watch it in 3D if you haven't had this experience yet. If you were like me I didn't pick up Avatar when it was released on DVD, knowing that down the road there would be a special edition re-release of the film, and now we have word on Avatar: Special Edition DVD & Blu-ray will have 16 minutes of extra footage. “Well, if you buy the box set in November, you can sit down, and in a continuous screening of the film, watch it with the Earth opening … It works very well. And then you can sit and you can have a great ride — a different telling of Avatar. Not inconsistent — it’s just the stuff that happen

James Cameron Main Man To Direct 'Final Destination 5'

James Cameron Main Man To Direct 'Final Destination 5' Steven Quale , the second unit director for "Avatar," has been tapped to helm " Final Destination 5 ," the latest installment in New Line's horror franchise. The "Destination" movies, which center on the idea that one can't cheat death, usually begin with a group of people who survive a catastrophe because of the intervention of one person who has a premonition. Death, however, will have its due, and the survivors end up expiring in elaborate Rube Goldberg-like fashion. Eric Heisserer ("The Thing") wrote the script, and Craig Perry is producing the pic, which has a September 13 start date in Vancouver. While most movie series by the fifth installment are getting long in the tooth, "Destination" seems to have found new vigor following the unexpected success of the fourth installment, which overcame bad reviews and grossed more than $182 million worldwide on a b

Zoe Saldana To Star In "Colombiana"

Zoe Saldana To Star In "Colombiana" Zoe Saldana is in early negotiations to star in "Colombiana," a drama that Luc Besson is producing under his Europa Corp. The project is slated for late-summer start with Olivier Megaton ("Transporter 3") directing. This will be her first lead role in a film, we all have seen her work in Avatar, Star Trek and The Losers and we know that she can carry a film as well as a gun. This is going to be her biggest role ever. Written by Besson and Robert Mark Kamen ( the guys behind the film Taken ), "Colombiana" is set in Latin America and the U.S. Saldana would play a young woman who, after witnessing her parents' murder as a child in Bogota, grows up to be a stone-cold assassin. She works for her uncle as a hitman by day, but her personal time is spent engaging in vigilante murders that she hopes will lead her to her ultimate target: the mobster responsible for her parents' death. Avatar 2 Announcement Coming Soon

Avatar 2 Announcement Coming Soon James Cameron was in South Korea, once again preaching about how 3D will replace 2D as the standard format for films, TV, laptops, online content. Actually, when I pitched this to 20th Century Fox four-and-a-half years ago, I said, ‘You know, we’re going to spend a lot of money and time and energy creating not only a process but the assets, the CG assets, we call them - all the models of every rock and tree and plant and creature and the muscle rigs for all the creatures and the facial rigging for the main characters and all that’… huge, millions and millions of dollars. So it really makes sense to think of it as the potential start of a franchise, if you will, or a saga that plays out over several acts, each movie being an act of that saga. I’m going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won’t be a rain forest. I’m not saying we won’t see what we’ve already seen; we’ll

Avatar 2 Will Go Under Water In Pandora

Avatar 2 Will Go Under Water In Pandora We have some interesting news about Avatar and it's sequel. First up James Cameron says a longer version of the film will be back in theaters in August -- and that the franchise will return with a seagoing sequel. Cameron outlined where he sees the adventures of Jake, Neytiri and the rest heading in future films. “We created a broad canvas for the environment of film. That’s not just on Pandora, but throughout the Alpha Centauri AB system. And we expand out across that system and incorporate more into the story – not necessarily in the second film, but more toward a third film. “Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment – a different setting within Pandora. And I’m going to be focusing on the ocean, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won’t be a rainforest. I’m not saying we won’t see what we’ve already seen; we’ll see more of that as well.” The sequel, according
