Ethan Hawke To Star In Vigilandia

Ethan Hawke will star in Vigilandia, a futuristic thriller that Blumhouse Productions, Platinum Dunes and Why Not Productions are making for Universal.

James DeMonaco wrote the script and is directing the low-budget movie, which is to begin production Feb. 13.

Vigilandia is the first movie to be made under Blumhouse’s first-look deal with the Universal, signed last summer. The shingle, run by Jason Blum, made its name in the horror field with the low-budget Paranormal Activity series as well as Insidious, one of the most profitable movies of 2011.

Blum is producing with Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, who have produced remakes of The Amityville Horror and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, among others. Sebastien Lemercier exec produces.

Vigilandia is a reunion for Hawke and Blum; the former is starring in Sinister, a Blumhouse-produced thriller being released by Summit this year.

Schwarzenegger & Stallone To Team Up For The Tomb

As he looks to re-ignite his film career in the wake of his gubernatorial stint and last year’s scandal-filled revelations, Arnold Schwarzenegger seems keen to keep working with old chum Sylvester Stallone, as Ain’t It Cool News is reporting that he’s been approached to co-star with Sly in The Tomb.

It emerged back in October that Sly would take on the lead role of Ray Breslin, the designer behind a maximum-security prison that is said to be thoroughly escape-proof. But guess what? He’s framed for a crime and locked away in that very same slammer. Naturally, he must then essentially defeat himself to get out and find the person responsible…

Arnie is no stranger to the film, having been up for the lead earlier last year when Antoine Fuqua was set to direct. And before that, Bruce Willis was the man circling the lead.

From the sounds of it, The Tomb has been passed around more than the package in a pass-the-parcel game, but now Deadline is reporting that Sly is locked and Mikael Håfström, who made last year’s exorcism thriller The Rite, is the latest director looking to call the shots.

Sly and Arnie will be seen on screen together on The Expendables 2, which hits later this year.

Magic Mike In The Buff- Ladies Get Your Singles Ready

Alright here you go ladies. This one is for you. Entertainment Weekly got their hands on these two new images from director Steven Soderbergh film Magic Mike.

Magic Mike stars Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello and Matthew McConaughey are all accounted for in the photo, with the latter apparently dressed as a shirtless Uncle Sam. The rest of the actors, all of whom play strippers in the movie, are only showing off their arms for now.

First Image From Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike-

Magic Mike is inspired by Tatum's experiences working as a stripper before his acting career took off. But instead of the lead, Tatum plays the mentor to Pettyfer's character, a performer in the troupe.

McConaughey plays Dallas, a former stripper who owns the club where the two perform -- though from the looks of the photo, he doesn't take his retirement very seriously.

Magic Mike arrives in U.S. theaters on June 29, 2012. It also stars Matt Bomer, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough and Cody Horn.

Act Of Valor To Capture The Superbowl

Relativity Media's film Act of Valor to have a prominent role during the Super Bowl this year.

Relativity Media announced today that it will promote the Bandito Brothers’ upcoming intense action-thriller Act of Valor, which stars an elite group of active-duty Navy SEALs in a fictionalized composite of actual events, during NBC’s nationally televised coverage of Super Bowl XLVI on February 5, 2012. Four 30-second unique Act of Valor commercials, featuring exclusive content, will run throughout the program including two spots that will air during the pre-game, one spot in game during the fourth quarter and one spot in the post-game show.

Terry Curtin, President, Theatrical Marketing said, “We are proud of this unique and original film that plays fantastically across broad audience segments. Not only is Act of Valor an incredibly entertaining action film, but it is a true testament to the heroism and sacrifice that makes America great. What better place to feature a spot for this movie than on the Super Bowl, which is one of our country’s biggest events.”

Also, be sure to visit ACT OF VALOR on Facebook and Twitter

In 2010, Relativity promoted its box office hit Limitless during Super Bowl XLV which went on to become the No. 1 movie in America in its theatrical debut. Super Bowl XLVI will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts, and will be the first Super Bowl to be held in Indianapolis. The Super Bowl frequently garners the highest American television ratings yearly and is often one of the most watched programs in the world. Last year, Super Bowl XLV became the most watched American television program in history, drawing an astounding 111 million viewers.

Produced and directed by former Baja 1000 champion Mike “Mouse” McCoy and former stuntman Scott Waugh, Act of Valor goes deep into the secret world of today’s most elite and highly trained group of warriors. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the United States, a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitments to country, team, and their families back home. Inspired by true events, the film combines stunning combat sequences, up-to-the minute battlefield technology and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure.

The next film on the studio’s growing slate is Oscar®-winner Steven Soderbergh’s dynamic Haywire debuting in theatres January 20, 2012. This highly anticipated action-thriller stars Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Angarano, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas, Bill Paxton and introduces mixed martial arts (MMA) star Gina Carano in a demanding lead role that has her performing her own high-adrenaline stunts. Haywire tells the story of Mallory Kane, a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage, she is double crossed and left for dead by someone close to her in her own agency. Suddenly the target of skilled assassins who know her every move, Mallory must find the truth in order to stay alive. Using her black-ops military training, she devises an ingenious – and dangerous – trap. But when things go haywire, Mallory realizes she’ll be killed in the blink of an eye unless she finds a way to turn the tables on her ruthless adversary. The release marks Soderbergh’s 25th film.

Relativity’s expansive upcoming slate also includes the magical adventure comedy Mirror Mirror (in theatres March 16, 2012), starring Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, Nathan Lane, and Armie Hammer. The studio just wrapped production on the comedy 21 and Over and is currently in pre-production on Nicholas Sparks’ gripping love story Safe Haven and the international espionage thriller Hunter Killer.

Garrett Hedlund Goes Inside Llewyn Davis

He's not long completed his turn as Dean Moriarty in Walter Salles' On The Road, but it seems Garrett Hedlund can't get enough of that crazy beat culture. He's now in talks to join the Coen Brothers' enigmatic Inside Llewyn Davis.

The specific role under discussion is unclear, as is much about this project. But given that the film is something to do with the Greenwich Village folk scene of the 1960s, we might surmise that Hedlund's musical chops, proven in Country Strong, make him a good fit. And he's got a reasonable-sized gap in his schedule now, what with Akira's tactical retreat.

Inside Llewyn Davis is apparently in some way loosely based around "mayor of McDougal Street" Dave Van Ronk, who was a coffee-shop mentor to musicians like Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. Joel Coen has said there will be plenty of music in the film, "pretty much all performed live, on a single instrument."

If Hedlund signs up, he'll be joining Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, John Goodman and Jeanine Serralles. Shooting starts shortly.

Ready For Another Bruce Almighty Film?

The last time Universal dabbled in the dark sequel arts with regards to Jim Carrey comedy vehicle Bruce Almighty, we got 2007’s floptastic Evan Almighty, which did little to help Steve Carell’s blossoming film career. But since even that critical dud managed to drag in around $175 million worldwide, the studio has decided to try again, hiring Hot Tub Time Machine writing duo Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel to take a crack at a direct sequel. And this time, they’re hoping to snag Carrey himself.

For those who don’t recall the 2003 film, Almighty saw Carrey as a down-on-his-luck TV reporter who demands an apology from God when his career takes a bad turn and his girlfriend (Jennifer Aniston) leaves him. But instead of providing a quick fix, the Man Upstairs (Morgan Freeman) decides to give Bruce a taste of heavenly power to teach him a lesson. Cue farcical takes on Biblical acts!

There’s no word yet on what angle Paul and Mogel will take: Evan, for example, saw Carell’s competing character building a Noah-style ark. But at least the pair has experience of writing for Carrey, as they penned 2008’s Yes Man for the actor.

And it’s still in the early stages, since Carrey is notoriously sequel shy, and hasn’t made a follow-up since Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. It would seem he’s slowly warming to the idea, though right now even a Dumb & Dumber sequel remains more rumour than reality.

Carrey will next be seen starring alongside Carell, coincidentally, in magic comedy Burt Wonderstone.

Star Wars: Underworld. What Do You Think? Will You Watch?

IGN had a great chat with producer Rick McCallum  about his new film Red Tails. McCallum, of course, is George Lucas' main man, having helped create, among other things, the Star Wars prequels, The Clone Wars cartoon and the oft-discussed live-action TV series that has yet to be produced.

Of course, I had to ask McCallum about the status of that show today. The would-be series already has 50 scripts written, just sitting on the shelf waiting for an economically sound way to actually be produced. We talked about the challenges of making that happen, and along the way McCallum mentioned the "working title" for the show as well…

Star Wars: Underworld. It has a nice ring to it, eh? And of course, it is in keeping with everything we've heard about the series so far -- bounty hunters, Godfather comparisons, and all the rest of it. It remains to be seen when -- or if -- the show will get made, but in the meantime we can obsess over the title anyway!
