#BatmanvSuperman Dawn of Justice Takes A Huge Hit

According to Variety “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is still the top contender at the box office, but its second weekend in theaters won’t be quite as victorious as its debut.

Warner Bros. and DC’s clash of the superheroes is now tracking for a three-day total of $50 million, down from yesterday’s expected $58 million. “BvS” pulled in $15 million on Friday from 4,256 locations, and it’s expected to hit a cumulative domestic gross of $260 million by Sunday’s end. The first week of the movie took in $209.1 million in the U.S. — the 10th-highest first-week total of all time — with a $166 million opening weekend.

Despite the negative reviews, audiences appear to have embraced the film, based both on box office turnout and on social media metrics. Fifty seven percent of the conversation on Twitter following the film’s debut has been positive, according to social media tracking service Fizziology. Less than 10 percent of the tweets about the film have been negative, with the rest falling under the neutral banner.

Other box office champs this weekend include the unsinkable Zootopia, which is heading for a weekend haul of $20 million from 3,698 locations. Disney’s socially progressive animated saga brought in $5.5 million on Friday, portending that the film will cross $275 million in total domestic grosses by the end of the weekend.

Universal’s “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” will claim third place. The sequel to the 2002 original pulled in $3.5 million on Friday from 3,179 locations. It’s expected to generate a three-day total of $11 million, pushing its domestic cume past $35 million.

A pair of faith-based films will claim fourth and fifth place. Debuting this weekend, Pure Flix’s “God’s Not Dead 2” generated $2.9 million on Friday from 2,320 locations. The sequel to the 2014 original should finish its debut weekend with $8 million.

Also in contention is Sony’s Jennifer Garner starrer “Miracles From Heaven,” which brought in $2.2 million from 3,155 locations Friday. The faith-based pic is expected to wrap up the weekend with $7.5 million, topping $45 million in total domestic receipts by the close of its third weekend in theaters.

New Clips From SING STREET!

Here are 2 NEW CLIPS from their upcoming film, SING STREET! SING STREET is written and directed by John Carney, and stars Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Aidan Gillen, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Jack Reynor, Lucy Boynton and Mark McKenna.

Watch more clips after the Jump...

SING STREET takes us back to 1980s Dublin seen through the eyes of a 14-year-old boy named Conor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) who is looking for a break from a home strained by his parents' relationship and money troubles, while trying to adjust to his new inner-city public school where the kids are rough and the teachers are rougher. He finds a glimmer of hope in the mysterious, über-cool and beautiful Raphina (Lucy Boynton), and with the aim of winning her heart he invites her to star in his band's music videos. There's only one problem: he's not part of a band...yet. She agrees, and now Conor must deliver what he's promised - calling himself "Cosmo" and immersing himself in the vibrant rock music trends of the decade, he forms a band with a few lads, and the group pours their heart into writing lyrics and shooting videos. Inspired by writer/director John Carney's (ONCE, BEGIN AGAIN) life and love for music, SING STREET shows us a world where music has the power to take us away from the turmoil of everyday life and transform us into something greater.

Channing Tatum's Gambit Film Delayed

With so many superhero movies due in the next couple of years, it is inevitable that some release dates will change. Often this is to avoid clashes with rival studios, but occasionally it is simply because the films won't be finished in time. This now seems to be the case with the Channing Tatum-starring Gambit.

The X-Men spinoff was originally scheduled for an October 7, 2016 release, which would make it the third of three X-Men movies that Fox were releasing next year. However, producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed that Gambit won't even start shooting until next spring, making a 2016 release impossible.

In an interview with Collider, Kinberg discussed the search for a new director, who has since been identified as Edge of Tomorrow's Doug Liman. "We have a director in and I don’t know if I’m allowed to say who it is yet because his deal isn’t done, but it’s somebody we’re excited about, and somebody I adore, and hopefully we can make an announcement soon about that," he said.

"But we’ve been spending a lot of time together--Channing, [Reid Carolin, Tatum’s producing partner], [screenwriter Joshua Zetumer], the director, and myself--just working on the script, and we hope to start shooting next spring."

The pre-production process on Gambit was delayed following the departure of Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt in September. He left the project stating that a "push in the start date now conflicts with another project," but a subsequent story in The Hollywood Reporter suggested that it was creative differences that led to his exit.

In the Collider interview, Kinberg also spoke about how Gambit would fit into the expanding X-Men universe, which also features Deadpool and the ongoing main X-Men series. "Deadpool obviously has a very different, almost antithetical tone to the mainline X-Men movies," he said. "The X-Men movies are dramatic and almost operatic, whereas Deadpool is irreverent and hysterical and sort of a dirty R-rated comedy in many ways. And Gambit will have its own different flavor and tone to it, will be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller."

Rob Letterman To Direct DUNGEONS & DRAGONS

Trackingboard is reporting Goosebumps director Rob Letterman is set to direct the highly-anticipated adaptation of the iconic role-playing game DUNGEONS & DRAGONS for Warner Bros. Letterman will be working from a script by Wrath of the Titans scribe David Leslie Jones.

Based on the popular fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons originally designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson and first published in 1974, the action-adventure tale centers on a warrior and his band of mystical creatures – including a half-dragon and a cunning gnome – as they embark on a dangerous journey to find a mythical treasure.

The film is being producing by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, along with Stephen Davis and Brian Goldner of Hasbro and Courtney Solomon through his Sweetpea Entertainment. John Middelton will executive produce for Vertigo, while Allan Zeman will executive produce for Sweetpea. Cate Adams and Drew Crevello are overseeing for Warner Bros., while Coral Wright and Josh Feldman will oversee for Hasbro. Solomon also directed the 2000 Dungeons & Dragons adaptation for New Line, starring Justin Whalin, Marlon Wayans, and Thora Birch.

No casting announcements have been made, but sources say that producers are eyeing a Vin Diesel-type for the film’s lead characters (it’s worth noting that Diesel himself is a professed fan of the game, having played it for over 20 years).

Last year, Letterman steered R.L. Stine’s cherished children’s book series Goosebumps adaptation to a solid $150 million worldwide against its estimated $58 million budget, breeding confidence in the director’s ability to handle an international franchise with a large – and potentially vocal – built-in fanbase. That could prove to be crucial, given the fact that Dungeons & Dragons is reported to be the best-selling role-playing game of all time, with over 20 million having played the game internationally and more than $1 billion in book and equipment sales. Goosebumps also showcased Letterman’s ability to handle a myriad of special effects creatures on screen, which ought to come in handy in bringing the expansive DnD world and its inhabitants to life. Letterman got his start working in animation, with additional writing and directing credits that include Monsters vs. Aliens and Shark Tale.

#THEJUNGLEBOOK New Clips & @IMAX Featurette

Here are two new clips and a new featurette below from Disney’s upcoming live action THE JUNGLE BOOK!

Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire. The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong'o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world. The wild adventure swings into theaters in 3D on April 15, 2016

Ben Affleck Is Contracted As Batman For The Justice League Movies Only

For the fans who found Ben Affleck's Dark Knight to be the highlight of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, some good news: Not only will he return for the Justice League movies, but there's the possibility of an additional Batman movie based on Affleck's own take on the character.

"He's contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two, so at least three times wearing the cape," he says, adding, "There's a script that he's written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that's out there as an option."

This isn't the first time the prospect of an Affleck-originated Batman movie has been raised. During San Diego Comic-Con last year, THR reported that the actor-director was developing a stand-alone Batman project with DC Entertainment chief creative officer Geoff Johns, with Affleck tentatively attached to direct as well as star.

In addition to the movies Whitesell mentioned, Affleck's Batman also will make a cameo appearance in August's Suicide Squad, which includes a number of the hero's comic book villains as lead characters. His rumored presence was confirmed in footage from the movie released during Comic-Con last year.

ULTIMATE #PIXAR EASTER EGG REVEALED

ULTIMATE EASTER EGG UNVEILED AS DISNEY•PIXAR’S “FINDING DORY” NEARS ITS SUMMER RELEASE,FILMMAKERS SHARE A NEVER-BEFORE-REVEALED HIDDEN GEM

The video below shows several of Hank’s cameos throughout the years and even providing a new glimpse of the character in action in “Finding Dory.”

“Finding Dory” Character Hank Has Been Pixar’s Best-Kept Secret for Over 25 Years

Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory” filmmakers revealed today that Hank, the film’s cantankerous octopus with camouflaging capabilities, has appeared in every one of their feature films since 1995’s “Toy Story.” “Finding Dory,” featuring the voice of Ed O’Neill as Hank, opens in theaters nationwide on June 17, 2016.

“Every Pixar fan knows that we love Easter Eggs,” said director Andrew Stanton, who also directed the 2003 Oscar®-winning film “Finding Nemo.” “And until now, Hank has been our most closely guarded secret. There are even people internally at Pixar who don’t know about this.”

Pixar is known for the hidden gems that appear in its feature films, including the Luxo Ball, the Pizza Planet Truck and A113, which is a nod to the animation classroom at CalArts, where several filmmakers attended. But the octopus—who’s actually a “septopus,” as he’s missing a tentacle—has remained a secret for two decades. “Hank started off as a bit of an inside joke between those of us who were here at Pixar in the very beginning,“ said Stanton. “But since then, finding a place for him in our films has become part of our culture, and I’m glad we finally get to introduce him properly to fans.”

ABOUT “FINDING DORY”
Disney•Pixar's “Finding Dory” welcomes back to the big screen everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang Dory (voice of Ellen DeGeneres), who’s living happily in the reef with Marlin (voice of Albert Brooks) and Nemo (voice of Hayden Rolence). When Dory suddenly remembers that she has a family out there who may be looking for her, the trio takes off on a life-changing adventure across the ocean to California’s prestigious Marine Life Institute, a rehabilitation center and aquarium. In an effort to find her mom (voice of Diane Keaton) and dad (voice of Eugene Levy), Dory enlists the help of three of the MLI’s most intriguing residents: Hank (voice of Ed O’Neill), a cantankerous octopus who frequently gives employees the slip; Bailey (voice of Ty Burrell), a beluga whale who is convinced his biological sonar skills are on the fritz; and Destiny (voice of Kaitlin Olson), a nearsighted whale shark. Deftly navigating the complex inner workings of the MLI, Dory and her friends discover the magic within their flaws, friendships and family.

Directed by Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo,” “WALL•E”), co-directed by Angus MacLane (“Toy Story OF TERROR!”), and produced by Lindsey Collins (co-producer “WALL•E”), Disney•Pixar's “Finding Dory” swims into theaters June 17, 2016. Movie Review: 'Krisha'

It's a character assassination party as Krisha struggles to maintain our interest.

Review by Matt Cummings

In Writer/Director/Editor Trey Edward Shults' Krisha, complex family values clash when the lone wolf Krisha (Krisha Fairchild) arrives at her sister's suburban Texas Thanksgiving. At first, the tone is friendly as everyone tries hard to accommodate her bra-less 60's style freedoms and battles with sobriety; but eventually, she returns to her old ways, reminding everyone why she left the family in the first place.

There's a lot in Krisha that's hard to figure out such as the unnecessary aspect ratio switches and the several long shots throughout. They don't really improve the plot, and Shults' effort looks like a candidate for film class. At just 83 minutes, Krisha wants to be a slow-burn drama about the result of one woman's damage to her family, but like the titular lone wolf it soon starts to unwind. When that happens, its Broadway DNA reveals a cheapness that's never fully explained. Sure, we know that Krisha has destroyed her life and will continue to do so until the bitter end, but the true cause of her abnormality remains hidden in a lock box of pills and scraps of paper. We see a character who's obviously worn out her welcome, but the family's dynamics fail to keep our attention.

It's always better to show plot than it is to speak it, but Krisha desperately needs something...anything...to drive the story. This is no pressure cooker with deep character interactions, and when the ugly ending arrives it feels dispassionately separated. Moreover, it suffers from a lack of quality actors to surround Fairchild. In a critical scene, all sister Robyn Fairchild can do is look confused and offer pithy advice to Krisha before the final insult is unleashed. It doesn't help that Shults opts for the smaller aspect ratio again here, as it's clear he's trying too hard to make the scene work. What really drives Krisha is the uniquely odd and beautiful music by Composer Brian McOmber. It sets a dark thriller tone for what feels like a Broadway play captured on-camera.

As things begin to unravel, one character tells Krisha, "You are heartbreak incarnate" and "A bird that hit one too many windshields." That's cruel to hear, but this is all Krisha can muster; it exists only to destroy someone who's already hanging on by a thread, to expose their worries over her and to see what happens when she loses all hope of redemption. If that sort of character assassination is your thing, then have at it.

Krisha is rated R for for language, substance abuse and some sexual content and has a runtime of 83 minutes.

Could Robin Wright Join #BLADERUNNER2

Robin Wright is now reportedly in final talks to join Alcon Entertainment’s BLADE RUNNER 2 starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, directed by Denis Villeneuve. Production starts July 2016.

WB is distributing this film domestically through its output agreement with Alcon Entertainment which acquired the film, television and ancillary franchise rights to “Blade Runner” in 2011 and this allows them to produce prequels and sequels to the iconic sci-fi thriller that was previously made into a classic 1982 film.

THR is reporting Max Landis has another script that is causing a stir.

Deeper, a contained deep-sea thriller written by Landis, has Bradley Cooper attached to star and Kornel Mundruczo, the European helmer behind White God, attached to direct.

While not on the level of the Bright bidding war, which saw the script’s price tag reach $4 million and the package being sold for $90 million, Deeper has numerous companies putting in bids.

Movie Review: I SAW THE LIGHT

RAMA is back at it again.

It's more about Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen

I SAW THE LIGHT is a performance-driven biopic. Tom Hiddleston transformed himself into the late great Hank Williams, and Elizabeth Olsen holds her ground, these two amazing talents burn the screen with such passion and ferocity. The film however is just textbook biopic, nothing that you haven’t already seen before. It’s well-intentioned but at the end of the day, Marc Abraham’s adaption is uninspired.

I SAW THE LIGHT essentially is the story of the legendary country western singer Hank Williams, one all-time greats in American music. Starring Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen, I SAW THE LIGHT chronicles Hank’s rise to fame which has tragic effect on his health and personal life.

Please keep in mind that I didn’t grow up a fan of country music, I don’t hate it, I appreciate it but I don’t have huge country music encyclopedia to discern on whether or not Tom Hiddleston’s performance as Hank Williams is accurate. Those of you who are fans of country and specifically fans of Hank Williams can make that comparison and can better judge Hiddleston in terms of his singing skills, if he talks and walks like Hank, so on and so forth. But when I said earlier that Hiddleston transformed is that you really don’t see Hiddleston up there on the screen, at least I didn’t. And for an outsider, a British to embody; to capture the essence of one of this country’s legends, that’s something that warrants some degree of respect. Part of what makes I SAW THE LIGHT interesting is the tumultuous and sometimes hostile relationship between Hank (Tom Hiddleston) and Audrey Williams (Elizabeth Olsen). When you have two people, each of whom thinks that they should be the bigger star, when two egos collide, it makes for a compelling drama.

The story however is not well-structured, it constantly cuts way too quickly from one scene to the next, it comes across as impatient. And although it’s not a from the cradle to the grave type biopic, it focuses only on a few years of Hank’s life till his downfall, I SAW THE LIGHT is really nothing new, we’ve seen this before. Superstars drinking, doing drugs, cheating on their spouses, we’ve seen what fame does to characters on screen. We’ve seen “Walk The Line” and others like it, and so I SAW THE LIGHT is more about Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen, that’s the big draw, the main attraction.
